• Connecting to SVN server from a computer outside of my LAN

  I've got a Fedora server running Subversion and svnserve on port 3690. My repo is at /var/svn/project_name. I have my router forwarding port 3690 to the local server (as well as port 80, 21, 22 and a few others). When I connect locally to svn://192.168.0.2/project_name it works great. When I connect from an external server to svn://my.static.ip/project_name I get a time out connecting to the host. However, if I http://my.static.ip there is no problem, so port forwarding is working (at least for port 80). I don't want to run WebDAV or svn via HTTP/s. I'd like it to work using svnserve, as documented in the svn book. What have I misconfigured? EDIT Here is the last part of my iptables dump. Still throughout interviews I noticed that at the rate of 4 of each 5 interviews I pass through the app is being confused with a business and I am asked the same questions: Why did you build the business? Why do you want to stop the app? Do you want to sell the app? Knowing that I didn't build a business nor make any income from this application. Do candidates who take initiatives and like to craft their own apps on the side cause a red flag on the hiring manager's radar?

• VS2010 tip: Cannot find the HttpUtility on .NET 4.0?

  Now that Visual Studio 2010 is here with more options and better colors, there are a few things that have changed a little and might confused you a bit. For example the good HttpUtility, if you are creating a Windows Console application or a Windows Service and you want to use that awesome class full of goodies, you would try to go to reference and add System.Web.dll, yet in the list that dll will be missing. • Java on Ubuntu server 12.04?

  I'm a little confused at the moment. My back story in short, is that I'm trying to set up a Minecraft server on an Ubuntu server I've recently set up, obviously to do this I needed Java, but after googling for a short while I wasn't entirely sure whether it is possible (or legal?) to do so in Ubuntu 12.04 due to licensing type issues - so I installed open JDK instead which appears not to work properly with the Minecraft server software (I half expected this) I'm now considering uninstalling open JDK and instead trying to get proper Java on there instead, my question is, is this possible? Is it Legal? And if so how do I go about doing it? Because I'm finding it very difficult to find any instructions on how to do so for 12.04 . . .

• In a multiplayer game, should I store the list of character names on the Player class?

  I am writing a multiplayer game that has account system and character creation system like standart MMORPGs. I have a question about name creating issue. I think that I can create a static variable on Player class that keeps created player names but it confused me. It will tell me name is valid or unvalid depends on the other players has this name. Questions; Does implementation does make sense ? If i have 1000 players, is it means it consumes 1000 times of memory of this list? Or it just consume as like there is one? What is your suggestion for place that I can keep player name list? A new class?

• Linux OpenGL programming, should I use GLX or any other?

• Should I understand SVN before I jump to GIT?

  I work in a department where no one has ever used source control before, including myself. I am trying to push the concept. I have spent a little while researching SVN. I some basics learned. I can Create/update/checkout/commit with command line and from Tortoise. I am starting to learn how to tag and branch but still confused a lot about conflicts between branches and trunk etc. I am still learning, but I do not have a physical person who can show me anything. Its all from books/tutorials and trial and error. From what I have read online it seems like git is the better thing to know, but its also more complicated. I don't want to overwhelm myself. Should I continue to master svn before moving to git or would I be wiser to just jump to git now? Are there pros and cons to both approaches?

• Implementing RAID 1 in Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop [closed]

  I found many resources on implementing RAID 1 using two disk drives. But, I am confused while implementing RAID 1 using 4 RAID disks. Can we use two disks for storage and two for mirroring using RAID 1? I couldn't find the way to create RAID disk using gparted tool in Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop version. Maybe, the desktop version doesn't support RAID. I am trying to implement RAID on the existing Ubuntu installation? I have added 4 X 2TB HDD in the system and I want RAID 1 to be implemented in these 4 drives with 2 drives for storage and 2 devices for mirroring. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!   A while ago, I used to use the grsecurity kernel patches, which had an option to hide process arguments from other non-root users. Basically this just made /proc/*/cmdline be mode 0600, and ps handles that properly by showing that the process exists but not its arguments. This is kind of nice if someone on a multiuser machine is running say vi christmas-presents.txt, to use the canonical example. Is there any supported way to do this in Ubuntu, other than by installing a new kernel? (I'm familiar with the technique that lets individual programs alter their argv, but most programs don't do that and anyhow it is racy. This stackoverflow user seems to be asking the same question, but actually just seems very confused.)

  I'm using gLabels to create some small pieces of paper to give away to people - Just two lines of about 15-20 characters each. One of the important parts of the design is that there are no "o" ("oh") characters, but there are "0" ("zero") characters in an all-lowercase URL. Therefore I need a non-monospaced (and very legible in print) font where "0" cannot be confused with "o" even without reference. The closest thing I've found so far is Andale Mono and Inconsolata , but they are both monospace, and as such not very easy to read in print. Alternatively, to find a font myself, is there some way to preview all fonts in the Ubuntu repositories without installing them?

• Why does windows (file) explorer try to connect to port 80 (http) instead just using smb?

  Background: On an almost freshly installed pc I get a message along the lines of : "windows cannot find some-file-server-name. Check the spelling and try again"... when trying to access any fileshare. Troubleshooting so far: pinging works. Both by ip and by name the almost identical pc next to this one can access the file server everyone else can access the file server the pc in question can not access other open fileshares but it can connect to the internet And now for what I think is the interesting part: running wireshark with ip.addr == local.ip.add.ress and ip.addr == server.ip.add.ress tells me that it tries to connect over http. the server replies but after a few messages back and forth it stops the other machine of course just uses smb I guess port 80 just means it defaults to webdav, but I haven't been able to find anything that can cause this. Googling it the closest thing I found was this http://www.techrepublic.com/article/get-vista-and-samba-to-work/6353849 but then again this was an XP pc and I wasn't able to connect to other native Windows shares (and I tried the solution anyway and it didn't work.)

• wifi works only after connecting through wire

  I have fresh installed ubuntu 12.04. it is my first ubuntu installation and i'm a bit confused about the network connection. Wifi shows up and connects(at least it shows that the connection is established), but i can't open any pages, i've tried to ping some sites and it fails either. If i try to connect through a wire it works, what is interesting to me is that after i used my wire connection i can use my wifi properly without a wire pluged in. i think it probably has to do with my settings? I tried to find a solution but can figure it out on my own. My Proxy set to none(have applied it system wide) Please help me if you have any clue:)
