• Will readyboost speed up a secondary partion or harddrive?

  I'm building a new computer and plan on using a few spare USB sticks with readyboost to cache disk writes. I'll be running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x64 I have a single 2 TB disk, and plan to make a partition for windows (100 GB) and use the rest for data. I know Readyboost will work nicely for the C drive, but am unable to find any information on whether it will accelerate a second drive or partition. Just to clarify, I'm NOT trying to use the harddrive instead of the usb sticks. I'm trying to speed up the second partition using the USB sticks So, will readyboost work for a secondary partion or harddrive?

• Including objects from external .js files

  I have been searching for many hours over several days for this answer and though there are many topics on how to include files in a project (also here at Stack Overflow), I have not yet found THE solution to my problem. I'm working on a project where I want to include one single object at a time, from many different files (I do not want to include the files themselves, only their content). All the object in all the files have the same name, only the content is different. It is important that I do not get a SCRIPT tag in the head section of the page as all the content from the files will have the same names. None of the files will have functions anyways, only one single object, that will need to be loaded one at the time and then discarded when the next element is loaded. • VRF Internet Gateway Multiple External IP's 1 Internal IP to AWS

  Trying to setup VRF for the first time and its not working for me even though I keep reading everything online. IP's are different to real life. I have an Internet connection which I can ping to my router in the current setup below 195.45.73.22 I have a block of ip addresses 195.45.121.0/27 I want to setup multiple VPN's to AWS so need to have multiple external ip's thus the block of IP addresses. I have setup the 2nd and 3rd IP address but can not ping them from external. Any help would be grateful. • Help make sense of a KillDisk error/log

  I have a hard drive that I've been trying to reformat. I tried reformatting it in the windows XP and 7 installers, and in an Ubuntu live cd with gparted. I tried using dd to 'zero' the drive as well with no success. Finally I ran across KillDisk after a search. • SCSI Windows Setup on Dell Precision 670 Workstation...please help.

  Error Windows Setup: "setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer" This is not exactly a programming question but I thought you guys might be able to help. I just received a Dell Precision 670 workstation. Windows is not recognizing the hard drive and I have experienced this before with other computers. I usually would just go in the bios and set the configuration to compatibility mode. I have no idea how to do this on this machine. There is this Adaptec SCSI HostRaid BIOS v4.30.4S5 screen on startup. It says to press CTRL A for SCSI select utility. It shows a Maxtor ATLAS10K5_73WLS for the drive. I was wondering if anyone out there knew how to configure this thing so that windows setup will recognize the hard drive? Any advice is very much appreciated and if you have to know further information please let me know. Raid was turned off in the BIOS for this device. TY

• Optimizing PHP require_once's for low disk i/o?

  Q1) I'm designing a CMS (-who isn't!) but priority is being given to caching. Literally everything is cached. DB rows, DB id queries, Configuration data, processed data, compiled templates. Currently it has two layers of caching. The first is a opcode cache or memory cache such as apc, eaccelerator, xcache or memcached. If an entry is not found in there it is then searched for in the secondary slow cache, ie php includes. Are the opcode caches actually faster than doing a require_once to a php file with a var_export'd array of data in it? My tests are inconclusive as my development box (5.3 of XAMPP) keeps throwing errors installing any of the aforementioned programs. Q2) The CMS has numerous helper classes that are autoloaded on demand instead of loading all files. Mostly each has a require before it so no autoloading needs to take place, however this is not the question. Because a page script can have up to 50/60 helper files included I have a feeling that if the site was under pressure it would buckle because of all the i/o that this incurs. Ignore for the moment that there is output cache in place that would remove the need for what I am about to suggest, and also that opcode caches would render this moot. What I have tried to do is join all the helper files required for the scripts execution in one single file. This is achievable and works well, however it has a side effect of greatly increasing the memory usage dramatically even though technically the same code is being used. What are your thoughts and opinions on this?

• Internal/External Moodle - DNS

  Network diagram: I have a moodle (a VLE) setup that I want to be internally and externally accessible. The green route on the diagram below is the route I would like the traffic to take when the user is inside the LAN, and the red route is seemingly what it does take. The website has a domain name (like most websites do). From the User PC, if I ping the domain name, I get the internal IP of the webserver (because of a hosts file entry), if I nslookup the domain name I also get the internal IP of the webserver (because of an A record on my DNS server). Running the same two commands on the webserver gives me the webservers external IP. (going well so far) If I use PHPs gethostbyname() on the moodle website and use domain name as a parameter (getting php/apache to resolve the hostname) it returns the exernal IP of the webserver (good news, DNS seems to be doing what I want it to). All things so far seem to be going well. The only thing that is confusing me and preventing the moodle single sign on from working is the fact that if I get moodle to show my IP address, it says that it is an external one (outside my NATting firewall) when it should show an internal IP. This is the issue, any ideas on how to go about resolving this? Any ideas on tests I can perform (I have also tried a tracert and the request goes directly to the webserver), anything? Thanks all!

Therefore I'm trying to find a sample that shows the best way to: Start an external application (hidden) Monitor its output periodically as it displays information about it's progress (so I can extract this and present a nice percentage bar to the user) Determine when the external application has finished (so I can't continue with my own applications execution) Kill the external application if necessary and detect when this has happened (so that if the user hits "cancel", I get take the appropriate steps) Does anyone have any recommended code snippets?

  I bought a new 320GB SATA hard drive few months ago no recently when i try to copy something to the drive after about 20 seconds the all the partitions in the hard drive suddenly disappears. The hard drive is not shown in either Disk manager or device manager. To get the HD work i have to restart the PC again.The same thing happens when i try to copy. Even when i play any audio or video after abt 5 minutes i get the same problem. The drives are NTFS and im running Windows XP.. Xan some one please help me solve the problem??

I like vmdk because they are just plain files, so I can paste my boot-loader over the first 512 bytes of the virtual hard disk. Now, I am trying to read the next sector of this virtual disk, on which I would paste a simple kernel that would display a message. I have two questions: Am I reading the second segment (the first -512 bytes- is occupied by the bootloader) correctly? It builds, but it is not blocking the thread so the external tool gets kicked off before it can finish. Is there a way I can run ExecuteCommand and wait for the thread to finish? • problem transferring Win 7 operating system hard drive to be used as external hard drive

  Win 7 Asus MA479 8GB Ram hard drives are 500GB The operating system was a Caviar Green, and I tried to exchange it for a Caviar Blue. The Caviar Blue took the install correctly, but the Green, the prior operating system hard drive, will not allow itself to be used as an external hard drive. I use TrueCrypt and tried to format the Green and it freezes each time at the very end of the encyrption of the partition. I took the Blue out of the system and tried to encrypt it, and same problem. I think there must be something on the hard drive that shows it was a system drive and it causes a conflict. I have tried writing over the system hard drive to fully erase everything but that does not work, it still freezes. The drives will work in a different pc, i.e. other pc where it never was the system drive. The external hard drive is connected esata through Thermaltake. I have used TrueCrypt on various pc's for years including this Win7 with no problem. Thank you.

  Hi, I want to develop a program that copies a partition's 'data' only, to another partition. And I want to do it such that the program starts from the first sector of source partition and checks if a sector is used. If it is used copy it to the destination parition. Else don't copy. In other words it's like copying only the contents of a partition to another, sector-by-sector. Question: Is there a way to check if a particular sector on harddisk is used or not? • Seperate external and intranet portals using the same functions .htaccess

  We are currently struggling with setting up rules for a .htaccess file for a website built upon our company product. The product is built using PLSQL and procedures can be accessed using URLs. We use this functionality to present different options to our users. These options can be injected into HTML pages using replacement tags. So, the tag [user_menu] is always replaced with: /wd_portal_cand.menu?p_web_site_id={variable1}&p_candidate_id={variable2} for external sites and /intranet/wd_portal_cand.menu?p_web_site_id={variable1}&p_candidate_id={variable2} for internal sites. The issue we are having is twofold. We need to write our .htaccess rules so that the user can access the functionality whether they are internal or external. So, the links should work as follows: http://www.example.com/wd_portal_cand.menu?p_web_site_id={variable1}&p_candidate_id={variable2} or http://www.example.com/internal/wd_portal_cand.menu?p_web_site_id={variable1}&p_candidate_id={variable2} This is the other problem. As you can see for the internal link above, the procedure needs to be prefixed with internal instead or intranet. We cannot change this in our standard tags as this will affect other sites so we need to achieve this also using htaccess. Could anyone assist with this issue? I apologise if this is brief or confusing but it's something i've never done before and have been given the task of doing. I apologise for the lack of code that will be posted above however I am a front end developer and have been left to make these changes having no prior experience of .htaccess to please bare with me.

• C++ IO with Hard Drive

  I was wondering if there was any kind of portable (Mac&Windows) method of reading and writing to the hard drive which goes beyond iostream.h, in particular features like getting a list of all the files in a folder, moving files around, ect. I was hoping that there would be something like SDL around, but so far I havn't been able to find much. Any ideas??

• Connecting to network device behind NAT from local LAN using the external port and IP

  I noticed at several different LANs connected to the Internet through a NAT the following phenomena. There is a server in the LAN and there is a port forwarding to reach this server also from outside the LAN through the NAT. E.g. consider a LAN with the address 192.168.0.* and a SSH server at 192.168.0.2 with port 22 and a forwarding from port 2222 at the NAT 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.2:22. If the NAT's external IP is 44.33.22.11, one can connect to the SSH server through 44.33.22.11:2222. Surprisingly this works only from outside the LAN. If one tries to connect to 44.33.22.11:2222 from behind the NAT, there is no answer. Of course one could simply use 192.168.0.2:22, but often it is simpler to use the external IP. The typical use case for me is the configuration on a laptop computer. Usually the user uses any arbitrary Internet connection to connect to his home or office server, but sometimes he will use also the LAN to connect to it and it would be annoying to have to different configurations or bookmarks. Why does it fail to connect from inside the LAN? Is there any good work around?
