  • How to copy a button with shadow effect from PSD to PNG

    - by Alex
    I got a web site design in PSD file from a web-designer. All element s there snap to guides, which is handy when I make a selection to copy an element of design to a PNG file: guides make my selection precise. One button there has two states: normal and hover. Both states contains of several layers. So I am trying to copy both states as PNG files in order to make a nice button in html. The problem is that both states have shadow effects, which go beyond the layers' edges, i.e. when I try to select a button my selection (snapped to guides) does not include an outer part of the shadow. How do I make a precise selection of the button state in such situation?

  • Getting this CSS to work in IE6

    - by jerrygarciuh
    Hi folks, Working on this page: http://www.karlsenner.dreamhosters.com/about.php and having trouble with the navigation in IE6. It validates as XHTML 1.0 Transitional. Works great in FF, IE 8, Chrome, and Windows Safari. In IE6 and Opera 10 the drop menus appear too high. I tried adding in the different versions of http://code.google.com/p/ie7-js/ but it did not solve the issue in IE. The CSS looks like this: #wrapper { position: relative; display: block; background-color: inherit; margin: 0px auto; padding: 0; width: 900px; min-height: 900px; } #nav {} .navImage { position:relative; display:inline; height:102px; /* added in hopes of helping IE position but no dice */ } .subMenu { position:absolute; z-index:10; background-color:#FFF; top: 14px; left:0; } .subMenu a:link, .subMenu a:visited, .subMenu a:active{ display:block; width:90%; padding:6px; margin:0; color:#3CF; font-family:Tahoma, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size:14px; text-decoration:none; font-weight:bold; } .subMenu a:hover{ display:block; width:90%; padding:6px; margin:0; color:#3CF; background-color:#CCC; font-family:Tahoma, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size:14px; text-decoration:none; font-weight:bold; } jQuery rollovers: $('#navcompany').hover(function () { $('#companyMenu').css('display', 'block'); $('#companyImg').attr('src','g/nav/company_over.gif'); }, function () { $('#companyMenu').css('display', 'none'); $('#companyImg').attr('src','g/nav/company.gif'); }); And one of the cells. Since the menu is coming out of PHP and IE was not respecting the widths I just use PHP to get the nav image widths and write them to styles on the fly. Solved the width issue as IE acted like they should inherit their width from the wrapper. This may be a clue as to why they don't appear below their nav images but I can't sort it. <div id="navcompany" class="navImage" style="width:128px"> <a href="about.php"> <img src="g/nav/company_over.gif" name="companyImg" width="128" height="102" border="0" id="companyImg" alt="company" /> </a> <div id="companyMenu" class="subMenu" style="display:none; width:128px"> <a href="about.php">About us</a> <a href="location.php">Our location</a> </div> </div> Any advice greatly appreciated! • How to make sliding button sidebar in Flex

    - by Tam
    Hi, I'm fairly new to Flex. I want to make a button (icon) on the far right in the middle of the page that display a sliding side bar with multiple buttons in it when you hover over it. I want when the user hover out of the button bar it slides back again. Conceptually I got the basics of that to work. The issue I'm having is that when the user moves the mouse between the buttons in the sidebar it kicks in changing state and side bar slides back again. I tried using different types of containers and I got the same results. Any Advice? Thanks, Tam Here is the code: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <s:VGroup xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/halo" xmlns:vld ="com.lal.validators.*" xmlns:effect="com.lal.effects.*" width="150" horizontalAlign="right" gap="0"> <fx:Script> <![CDATA[ import com.lal.model.LalModelLocator; var _model:LalModelLocator = LalModelLocator.getInstance(); ]]> </fx:Script> <fx:Declarations> <mx:ArrayCollection id="someData"> </mx:ArrayCollection> </fx:Declarations> <s:states> <s:State name="normal" /> <s:State name="expanded" /> </s:states> <fx:Style source="/styles.css"/> <s:transitions> <s:Transition fromState="normal" toState="expanded" > <s:Sequence> <s:Wipe direction="left" duration="250" target="{buttonsGroup}" /> </s:Sequence> </s:Transition> <s:Transition fromState="expanded" toState="normal" > <s:Sequence> <s:Wipe direction="right" duration="250" target="{buttonsGroup}" /> </s:Sequence> </s:Transition> </s:transitions> <s:Button skinClass="com.lal.skins.CalendarButtonSkin" id="calendarIconButton" includeIn="normal" verticalCenter="0" mouseOver="currentState = 'expanded'"/> <s:Panel includeIn="expanded" id="buttonsGroup" mouseOut="currentState = 'normal' " width="150" height="490" > <s:layout> <s:VerticalLayout gap="0" paddingRight="0" /> </s:layout> <s:Button id="mondayButton" width="120" height="70" mouseOver="currentState = 'expanded'"/> <s:Button id="tuesdayButton" width="120" height="70" mouseOver="currentState = 'expanded'"/> <s:Button id="wednesdayButton" width="120" height="70" mouseOver="currentState = 'expanded'"/> <s:Button id="thursdayButton" width="120" height="70" mouseOver="currentState = 'expanded'"/> <s:Button id="fridayButton" width="120" height="70" mouseOver="currentState = 'expanded'"/> <s:Button id="saturdayButton" width="120" height="70" mouseOver="currentState = 'expanded'"/> <s:Button id="sundayButton" width="120" height="70" mouseOver="currentState = 'expanded'"/> </s:Panel> </s:VGroup>

  • How to remove buttons in AnythingSlider and stop the sliding?

    - by user244394
    I'm currently using the anythingSlider it works quite well. But if there is one li, how do i make it stop sliding and remove the buttons displayed below? The *li*s are generated from the database so sometimes there's only one. I want the buttons to show only when there is more then one image. if there is one image all the buttons( back, forward, pause) should not be displayed. Does anybody know of a way of stopping it sliding if there's only one li and removing the buttons when there is only one image. ===================================================================================== Thank You. Currently I have the working version, posted below the old code is working. I tried to replace it with yours it didnt seem to work. Is there something else that needs to be added? function formatText(index, panel) { return index + ""; } $(function () { $('.anythingSlider').anythingSlider({ easing: "easeInOutExpo", // Anything other than "linear" or "swing" requires the easing plugin autoPlay: true, // This turns off the entire FUNCTIONALY, not just if it starts running or not. delay: 7500, // How long between slide transitions in AutoPlay mode startStopped: false, // If autoPlay is on, this can force it to start stopped animationTime: 1250, // How long the slide transition takes hashTags: true, // Should links change the hashtag in the URL? buildNavigation: true, // If true, builds and list of anchor links to link to each slide pauseOnHover: true, // If true, and autoPlay is enabled, the show will pause on hover startText: "", // Start text stopText: "", // Start text navigationFormatter: formatText // Details at the top of the file on this use (advanced use) }); $("#slide-jump").click(function(){ $('.anythingSlider').anythingSlider(6); }); }); UPDATED WITH YOUR CODE : function formatText(index, panel) { return index + ""; } $(function () { var singleSlide = true, options = { autoPlay: false, // This turns off the entire FUNCTIONALY, not just if it starts running or not. buildNavigation: false, // If true, builds and list of anchor links to link to each slide easing: "easeInOutExpo", // Anything other than "linear" or "swing" requires the easing plugin delay: 3000, // How long between slide transitions in AutoPlay mode animationTime: 600, // How long the slide transition takes hashTags: true, // Should links change the hashtag in the URL? pauseOnHover: true, // If true, and autoPlay is enabled, the show will pause on hover navigationFormatter: formatText // Details at the top of the file on this use (advanced use) }; // Add player options if more than one slide exists if ( $('.anythingSlider div ul li').length 1 ) { $.extend(options, { autoPlay: true, startStopped: false, // If autoPlay is on, this can force it to start stopped startText: "", // Start text stopText: "", // Start text buildNavigation: true }); singleSlide = false; } // Initiate anythingSlider $("#slide-jump").click(function(){ $('.anythingSlider').anythingSlider(6); }); // hide anythingSlider navigation arrows if (singleSlide) { $('.anythingSlider a.arrow').hide(); } }); HTML TAGS ========================================================================================= Update May 25 ,2010 When using $('.anythingSlider').anythingSlider(options); instead of $('.anythingSlider').anythingSlider(6); the slider runs but I noticed that I get a Javascript Error :Object required is there anything else I need to pass? Since before anythingSlider was taking 6 instead of options, where do I pass that 6, since its looking for it.

  • adv. styling list with css

    - by Ayrton
    Hi I need to style a regular html list like the following picture: as you see each each list item has a padding on the sides and a top&bottom border. When hovered the border has a width of 100% of the <ul> item. Now the problem actually is: when you give each <li> element a top & bottom border I have a border of 2 px between each element (bottom border from the first element and the top border from the second element), I don't want that however I do not know any solution for this. my html: <div id="tab_top" class="tab"> <div class="bottom"> <div class="cont"> <ul> <li><a href="#">Here’s a Sample Post <span class="ct">32</span></a></li> <li><a href="#">Here’s a Sample Post <span class="ct">32</span></a></li> <li><a href="#">Here’s a Sample Post <span class="ct">32</span></a></li> <li><a href="#">Here’s a Sample Post <span class="ct">32</span></a></li> <li><a href="#">Here’s a Sample Post <span class="ct">32</span></a></li> <li><a href="#">Here’s a Sample Post <span class="ct">32</span></a></li> <li><a href="#">Here’s a Sample Post <span class="ct">32</span></a></li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> my css: #tabs .tab div.cont ul li a{line-height:30px; height:30px; color:#3ca097; display:block; padding-left:11px; padding-right:13px; width:259px;} #tabs .tab div.cont ul li a span.ct{float:right;background:url(images/count_comments.gif) no-repeat left top; height:13px; padding-left:16px; margin-top:10px; line-height:12px;} #tabs .tab div.cont ul li a:hover{color:#fff; background-color:#6fd2c8; border-top:1px solid #7db9b2; border-bottom:1px solid #7db9b2; height:28px; line-height:28px;} #tabs .tab div.cont ul li a:hover span.ct{background-position:left bottom; color:#23665f; margin-top:9px;} I would be pleased if you can help me Yours truthfully

  • CSS selector driving me nuts!!!

    - by YsoL8
    Apoologies in advance for the slightly long winded code in this question @charset "UTF-8"; /* CSS Document */ * { margin:0; padding:0; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; } #wrapper { width:900px; margin:0 auto 0 auto; } #header { background-color:#800080; width:894px; min-height:60px; padding-top:6px; padding-left:6px; } #header img { margin-left:200px; margin-top:10px; } #headerleft { float:left; } #header h2 { font-family:Arial Black, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color:#ffff00; font-size:36px; /*float:left;*/ } #header h3 { font-family:Arial Black, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color:#ffff00; font-size:14px; } #nav { background-color:#800080; width:100%; min-height:30px; } #nav ul { padding-left:7px; padding-right:7px; } #nav li { list-style:none; display:inline; padding:5px 44px 5px 44px; } #nav li a { color:#FFF; text-decoration:none; } #nav li a:hover { color:#ffff00; } #leftcol { background-color:#800080; width:125px; min-height:30px; float:left; } #leftcol img { margin-left:20px; margin-bottom:20px; } .content { padding:20px 10px 10px 20px; float:left; } <!-- admin classes --> .pageselect p { color:#C90; } #rightcol { /*background-color:#800080;*/ width:160px; min-height:330px; float:right; } .righthead { margin-top:7px; background-image:url(../images/rightcol-head.png); color:#FFF; padding: 5px 20px 5px 20px; font-size:14px; } .rightmid { background-image:url(../images/right-mid.jpg); padding: 5px 10px 5px 10px; font-size:14px; } .rightfoot { background-image:url(../images/right-foot.jpg); background-repeat:no-repeat; } .clear { clear:both; } #footer { background-color:#800080; width:880px; min-height:30px; margin-top:-20px; padding-top:30px; padding-left:20px; padding-bottom:10px; } #footer p { color:#ffff00; } #footer p a { color:#ffff00; text-decoration:none; } #footer p a:hover { font-weight:bold; } .error { color:#C30; } I have the above stylesheet. I am attempting to style the following element (taken from firefox web developer tools): html > body > div#wrapper > div#leftright > div.content > div.pageselect To my mind .pageselect should be the selector to do that, but I seem to be powerless to influence the style, and its just about sending me wacko! Why won't this work?

  • Creating a second login page that automatically logs in the user

    - by nsilva
    I have a login page as follows: <form action="?" method="post" id="frm-useracc-login" name="frm-useracc-login" > <div id="login-username-wrap" > <div class="login-input-item left"> <div class="div-search-label left"> <div id="div-leftheader-wrap"> <p class="a-topheader-infotext left"><strong>Username: </strong></p> </div> </div> <div class="login-input-content left div-subrow-style ui-corner-all"> <input type="text" tabindex="1" name="txt-username" id="txt-username" class="input-txt-med required addr-search-input txt-username left"> </div> </div> </div> <div id="login-password-wrap" > <div class="login-input-item left"> <div class="div-search-label left"> <div id="div-leftheader-wrap"> <p class="a-topheader-infotext left"><strong>Password: </strong></p> </div> </div> <div class="login-input-content left div-subrow-style ui-corner-all"> <input type="password" tabindex="1" name="txt-password" id="txt-password" class="input-txt-med required addr-search-input txt-password left"> </div> </div> </div> <div id="login-btn-bottom" class="centre-div"> <div id="login-btn-right"> <button name="btn-login" id="btn-login" class="btn-med ui-button ui-state-default ui-button-text-only ui-corner-all btn-hover-anim btn-row-wrapper left">Login</button> <button name="btn-cancel" id="btn-cancel" class="btn-med ui-button ui-state-default ui-button-text-only ui-corner-all btn-hover-anim btn-row-wrapper left">Cancel</button><br /><br /> </div> </div> </form> And here my session.controller.php file: Click Here Basically, what I want to do is create a second login page that automatically passes the value to the session controller and logs in. For example, if I go to login-guest.php, I would put the default values for username and password and then have a jquery click event that automatically logs them in using $("#btn-login").trigger('click'); The problem is that the session controller automatically goes back to login.php if the session has timed out and I'm not sure how I could go about achieving this. Any help would be much appreciated!

  • Why is the dropdown menu aligned to the left?

    - by fmz
    I am working on a dropdown navigation for a site and am having some trouble with the dropdown portion aligning with the parent category - it shifts all the way to the left. Here is the html: <ul class="dropdown"> <li><a href="#" id="home">Home</a></li> <li><a href="#" id="about">About Us</a> <ul class="sub-menu"> <li><a href="#">Our History</a></li> <li><a href="#">Our Process</a></li> <li><a href="#">Portfolio</a></li> <li><a href="#">Financing</a></li> <li><a href="#">Testimonials</a></li> <li><a href="#">Subcontractors</a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="#" id="personal">Personal Banking</a></li> <li><a href="#" id="commercial">Commercial Banking</a></li> <li><a href="#" id="service">Customer Service</a> <ul class="sub-menu"> <li><a href="#">Our History</a></li> <li><a href="#">Our Process</a></li> <li><a href="#">Portfolio</a></li> <li><a href="#">Financing</a></li> <li><a href="#">Testimonials</a></li> <li><a href="#">Subcontractors</a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="#" id="investors">Investor Relations</a></li> <li><a href="#" id="contact">Contact Us</a></li> </ul> Here is the CSS: ul.dropdown { position: relative; background: #4e8997; height: 40px; padding-left: 5px; } ul.dropdown li { float: left; zoom: 1; } ul.dropdown li a { display: block; margin-top: 5px; padding: .5em .6em; color: #fff; font: bold 14px "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, Geneva, sans-serif; text-transform: uppercase; border: none; } ul.dropdown a:hover { background-color: #c29c5d; color: #fff; } ul.dropdown a:active { background-color: #c29c5d; color: #fff; } /* LEVEL TWO */ ul.dropdown ul { width: 200px; visibility: hidden; position: absolute; top:100%; left: 0; } ul.dropdown ul li { font: 13px "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, Geneva, sans-serif; border-bottom: 1px solid #ccc; float: none; color: #fff; background-color: #c29c5d; height: 20px; } ul.dropdown ul li a { display: inline-block; } ul.dropdown ul li a:hover { background-color: #a2834d; color: #fff; height: 20px; } I tried changing the ul.dropdown ul to position relative, but that breaks the navigation. I would appreciate some help getting this corrected. Thanks.

  • AJAX Generated Select Won't Redirect

    - by James
    So, basically I have this select / drop down menu that I use AJAX to retrieve and create, though when an option is selected (so onChange) I want it to redirect! Though, this still isn't working, I don't get any errors thrown when trying, and tried to do alert() debug methods yet the alerts don't get called. jquery $("#schoolMenu").change(function() { option = $("#schoolMenu option:selected").text(); alert(option); if(option != "- Please Select -") { window.location = "http://www.itmustbecollege.com/pics/pics-from-"+$("#schoolMenu option:selected").val(); } }); This is what is used to call the AJAX // // Populate Schools // $("#state").change(function() { option = $("#state option:selected").text(); if($(this).attr("class") == "menu") { if(option != "- Please Select -") { $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "/includes/functions.php", data: "f=school&p="+option+"&m=yes", success: function(msg) { $("#fSchool").html("<p style=\"margin-left: 20px;\">Select School:</p>"+ msg); $("#fSchool").show(); $("#school").focus(); } }); } else { $("#fSchool").html(""); $("#fSchool").hide(); } } else { if(option != "- Please Select -") { $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "/includes/functions.php", data: "f=school&p="+option, success: function(msg) { $("#fSchool").html(msg); $("#fSchool").show(); $("#school").focus(); } }); } else { $("#fSchool").html(""); $("#fSchool").hide(); } } }); It loads perfectly, if you look at http://www.itmustbecollege.com/quotes/ on that bar where you can do "sort by" of Popular | Newest | Category | School if you hover over school a dropdown comes up, select any country and another one appears, though when that is changed nothing happens. here is the PHP for that second drop down // Get College List function getCollege($state, $m = "no", $l = "no") { // Displays Schools if($m == "yes") { $options = '<select id="schoolMenu" name="school"><option value="select" selected="selected">- Please Select -</option>'; } else if($l == "yes" || $l == "yes2") { $options = ''; } else { $options = '<select name="school"><option value="select" selected="selected">- Please Select -</option>'; } $listArray = split("\|\\\\", $list); for($i=0; $i < count($listArray); $i++) { if($m == "yes") { $options .= '<option value="'. trim(titleReplace($listArray[$i])) .'">'. trim($listArray[$i]) .'</option>'; } else if($l == "yes") { $options .= '<li><a href="/quotes/quotes-from-'. titleReplace($listArray[$i]) .'" title="'. trim($listArray[$i]) .' Quotes">'. trim($listArray[$i]) .'</a></li>'; } else if($l == "yes2") { $options .= '<li><a href="/pics/pics-from-'. titleReplace($listArray[$i]) .'" title="'. trim($listArray[$i]) .' Pictures">'. trim($listArray[$i]) .'</a></li>'; } else { $options .= '<option value="'. trim($listArray[$i]) .'">'. trim($listArray[$i]) .'</option>'; } } echo $options .='</select>'; return false; } any help would be great! EDIT: Also, the way I have those drop downs coming for the menus is a bit weird and when you hover over any other "sort by" link they disappear, this is a problem with the "sort by school" because the first select box shows the list up, and if you go and select a school then somehow float over another link it disappears, any help on how to delay that or fix that minor problem?

  • "Too much recursion" error when loading the same page with a hash

    - by Elliott
    Hi, I have a site w/ an image gallery ("Portfolio") page. There is drop-down navigation that allows a user to view a specific image in the portfolio from any page on the site. The links in the navigation use a hash, and that hash is read and converted into a string of an image filename. The image src attribute on the /portfolio/ page is then swapped out with the new image filename. This works fine if I'm clicking the dropdown link from a page OTHER THAN the /portfolio/ page itself. However if I take the same action from the /portfolio/ page, I get a "too much recursion" error in Firefox. Here's the code: Snippet of the nav markup: <li>Portfolio Category A <ul> <li><a href="/portfolio/#dining-room-table">Dining Room Table</a></li> <li><a href="/portfolio/#bathroom-mirror">Bathroom Mirror</a></li> </ul> </li> JS that reads the hash, converts it to an image filename, and swaps out the image on the page: $(document).ready(function() { if(location.pathname.indexOf("/portfolio/") > -1) { var hash = location.hash; var new_image = hash.replace("#", "")+".jpg"; swapImage(new_image); } }); function swapImage(new_image) { setTimeout(function() { $("img#current-image").attr("src", "/images/portfolio/work/"+new_image); }, 100); } I'm using the setTimeout function because I'm fading out the old image before making the swap, then fading it back in. I initially thought this was the function that was causing the recursion error, but when I remove the setTimeout I still have this problem. Does this have to do with a closure I'm not aware of? I'm pretty green on closures. JS that listens for the click on the nav: $("nav.main li.dropdown li ul li").click(function() { $(this).find("a").click(); $("nav.main").find("ul ul").hide(); $("nav.main li.hover").removeClass("hover"); }); I haven't implemented the fade in/out functionality for the dropdown nav yet, but I have implemented it for Next and Previous arrows, which can also be used to swap out images using the same swapImage function. Here's that code: $("#scroll-arrows a").click(function() { $("#current-image").animate({ opacity: 0 }, 100); var current_image = $("#current-image").attr("src").split("/").pop(); var new_image; var positions = getPositions(current_image); if($(this).is(".right")) { new_image = positions.next_img; } else { new_image = positions.prev_img; } swapImage(new_image); $("#current-image").animate({ opacity: 1 }, 100); return false; }); Here's the error I'm getting in Firefox: too much recursion var ret = handleObj.handler.apply( this, arguments ); jquery.js (line 1936) Thanks for any advice.

  • Drop down list in menu disappears before able to click

    - by user1834770
    I've had quite a search through forums looking for a solution for this, but since I don't know coding I'm not sure what applies to me and what doesn't. So, apologies if this is an often solved problem, but I'll greatly appreciate your help! After much trial and error, I've managed to get a drop down list of pages on my navigation bar; however, when I go to click on a sub-page, the entire menu disappears. I've read through other similar problems where there has been an issue with a margin that's too big, but I think my margins are set to '0'. The blog is at: http://swirlstwirlsblog.blogspot.com.au/ I haven't got content in the sub pages but there are there and linked in the html/javascript widget. I've also looked at it in Chrome, Mozilla, and Safari and it's the same issue. I'm also not sure if this is a javascript, css, or html problem, so please be kind in your responses--I'm only new! Thanks so much to anyone able to help me on this. Here's the script I used in the Widget: <ul id="jsddm"> <li><a href="http://swirlstwirlsblog.blogspot.com.au/">Home</a> <li><a href="http://swirlstwirlsblog.blogspot.com.au/search/label/sparkles">Sparkles</a> </li> <li><a href="http://swirlstwirlsblog.blogspot.com.au/search/label/friendship">Friendship</a> </li> <li><a href="http://swirlstwirlsblog.blogspot.com.au/search/label/humour">Humour</a> </li> <li><a href="">About</a> <ul> <li><a href="http://swirlstwirlsblog.blogspot.com.au/p/about_16.html">Us</a></li> <li><a href="http://swirlstwirlsblog.blogspot.com.au/p/contributers.html">Contributors</a> </li> <li><a href="http://swirlstwirlsblog.blogspot.com.au/p/advertising.html">Advertising</a> </li> <li><a href="http://swirlstwirlsblog.blogspot.com.au/p/privacy-policies.html">Privacy</a></li> <li><a href="http://swirlstwirlsblog.blogspot.com.au/p/contact.html">Contact</a></li> </ul> </li> </li></ul> And here's the html code I put in the template: <pre>#jsddm { margin: 0; padding: 15px; z-index:1000000000; position:relative; } #jsddm li { float: left; list-style: none; font: 12px Tahoma, Arial; } #jsddm li a { display: block; white-space: nowrap; margin:1px 3px; padding: 5px 10px; border-right: 1px color: eeeeee; text-shadow: #ffffff 0 1px 0; color: #363636; font-size: 15px; font-family: crushed; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: middle; } #jsddm li a:hover { background: #C8C8C8; } #jsddm li ul { margin: 0; padding: 0; position: absolute; visibility: hidden; border-top: 1px solid white; } #jsddm li ul li { float: none; display: inline; } #jsddm li ul li a { width: auto; background: #ffffff; } #jsddm li ul li a:hover { background: #eeeeee; }</pre>

  • jQuery - Stucked Animation

    - by v1n_vampire
    I'm kind of tired with Javascript long script for animation and decide to try jQuery, but it seems I'm stuck even at the simplest code. CSS: #menu {float: right; font: italic 16px/16px Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif;} ul#nav {list-style: none;} ul#nav li {float: left; padding-right: 10px;} ul#nav li a {color: white;} ul#subnav {float: right; list-style: none; padding: 0; display: none;} ul#subnav li {float: left; padding: 10px 5px; white-space: nowrap;} ul#subnav li a {color: white;} Script: $(document).ready(function() { $('.nav').hover(function() { $(this).find('#subnav').stop().animate({width:'toggle'},350); }); }); HTML: <div id="menu"> <ul id="nav"> <li class="nav"> <a href="#"><img src="images/icon-home.png" width="36" height="36"/></a> <ul id="subnav"> <li><a href="#">Home</a></li> </ul> </li> <li class="nav"> <a href="#"><img src="images/icon-signin.png" width="36" height="36"/></a> <ul id="subnav"> <li><a href="#">Sign In</a></li> </ul> </li> <li class="nav"> <a href="#"><img src="images/icon-register.png" width="36" height="36"/></a> <ul id="subnav"> <li><a href="#">Create Account</a></li> </ul> </li> <li class="nav" style="padding-right: 0;"> <a href="#"><img src="images/icon-mail.png" width="36" height="36"/></a> <ul id="subnav"> <li style="padding-right: 0;"><a href="#">Contact Us</a></li> </ul> </li> </ul> </div> Here's the sample page: http://v1n-vampire.com/dev/jq-animation-stuck If you continue to hover on the nav from left to right then back to left, eventually the animation will stuck. How to solve this? Thank you in advance.

  • Turn Photos and Home Videos into Movies with Windows Live Movie Maker

    - by DigitalGeekery
    Are you looking for an easy way to take your digital photos and videos and turn them into a movie or slideshow? Today we’ll take a detailed look at how to do use Windows Live Movie Maker. Installation Windows Live Movie Maker comes bundled as part of the Windows Live Essentials suite (link below). However, you don’t have to install any of the programs you may not want. Take notice of the You’re almost done screen. Before clicking Continue, be sure to uncheck the boxes to set your search provider and homepage. Adding Pictures and Videos Open Windows Live Movie Maker. You can add videos or photos by simply dragging and dropping them onto the storyboard area. You can also click on the storyboard area or on the Add videos and photos button on the Home tab to browse for videos and photos. Windows Live Movie Maker supports most video, image, and audio file types. Select your files and add click Open to add them to Windows Live Movie Maker. By default WLMM doesn’t allow you to add files from network locations…so check out our article on how to add network support to Windows Live MovieMaker if the files you want to add are on a network drive. Layout All of your added clips will appear in the storyboard area on the right, while the currently selected clip will appear in the preview window on the left. You can adjust the size of the two areas by clicking and dragging the dividing line in the middle.    Make the clips on the storyboard bigger or smaller by clicking on the thumbnail size icon. The slider at the lower right adjusts the zoom time scale.   Previewing your Movie At any time, you can playback your movie and preview how it will look in the Preview window by clicking the space bar, or by pushing the play button under the preview window. You can also manually move the preview bar slider across the storyboard to view the clips as the video progresses. Adjusting Clips on the Storyboard You can click and drag clips on the storyboard to change the order in which the photos and videos appear.   Adding Music Nothing brings a movie to life quite like music. Selecting Add music will add your music to the beginning of the movie. Select Add music at the current point to include it in the movie to the current location of your preview bar slider, then browse for your music clip. WLMM supports many common audio files such as WAV, MP3, M4A, WMA, AIFF, and ASF. The music clip will appear above the video / photos clips on the storyboard.   You can change the location of music clips by clicking and dragging them to a different location on the storyboard. Add Titles, Captions, and Credits To add a Title screen to your movie, click the Title button on the Home tab. Type your title directly into the text box on the preview screen. The title will be placed at the location of the preview slider on the storyboard. However, you can change the location by clicking and dragging title to other areas of the storyboard. On the Format tab, there are a handful of text settings. You can change the font, color, size, alignment,  and transparency. The Adjust group allows you to change the background color, edit the text, and set the length of time the Title will appear in the movie.   The Effects group on the Format tab allows you to select an effect for your title screen. By hovering your cursor over each option, you will get a live preview of how each effect will appear in the preview window. Click to apply any of the effects. For captions, select where you want your caption to appear with the preview slider on the storyboard, then click the captions button on the Home tab. Just like the title, you type your caption directly into the text box on the preview screen, and you can make any adjustments by using the Font and Paragraph, Adjust, and Effects groups above. Credits are done the same as titles and captions, except they are automatically placed at the end of the movie.   Transitions Go to the Animation tab on the ribbon to apply transitions. Select a clip from the storyboard and hover over one of the transition to see it in the preview window. Click on the transition to apply it to the clip. You can apply transitions separately to clips or hold down Ctrl button while clicking to select multiple clips to which to apply the same transition. Pan and zoom effects are also located on the Animations tab, but can be applied to photos only. Like transition, you can apply them individually to a clip or hold down Ctrl button while clicking to select multiple clips to which to apply the same pan and zoom effect. Once applied, you can adjust the duration of the transitions and pan and zoom effects. You can also click the dropdown for additional transitions or effects. Visual Effects Similar to Pan and Zoom and Transitions, you can apply a variety of Visual Effects to individual or multiple clips. Editing Video and Music Note: This does not actually edit the original video you imported into your Windows Live Movie Maker project, only how it appears in your WLMM project. There are some very basic editing tools located on the Home tab. The Rotate left and Rotate right button will adjust any clip that may be oriented incorrectly. The Fit to music button will automatically adjust the duration of the photos (if you have any in your project) to fit the length of the music in your movie. Audio mix allows you to change the volume level   You can also do some slightly more advanced editing from the Edit tab. Select the video clip on the storyboard and click the Trim tool to edit or remove portions of a video clip. Next, click and drag the sliders in the preview windows to select the are you wish to keep. For example, the area outside the sliders is the area trimmed from the movie. The area inside is the section that is kept in the movie. You can also adjust the Start and End points manually on the ribbon.   When you are finished, click Save trim. You can also split your video clips. Move the preview slider to the location in the video clip where you’d like to split it, and select Split. Your video will be split into separate sections. Now you can apply different effects or move them to different locations on the storyboard. Editing Music Clips Select the music clip on the storyboard and then the Options tab on the ribbon. You can adjust the music volume by moving the slider right and left.   You can also choose to have your music clip fade in or out at the beginning and end of your movie. From the Fade in and Fade out dropdowns, select None, Slow, Medium, or Fast. To adjust the sound of your audio clips, click on the Edit tab, select the Video volume button, and adjust the slider. Move it all the way to the left to mute any background noise in your video clips.   AutoMovie As you have seen, Windows Live Movie Maker allows you to add effects, transitions, titles, and more. If you don’t want to do any of that stuff yourself, AutoMovie will automatically add title, credits, cross fade transitions between items, pan and zoom effects to photos, and fit your project to the music. Just select the AutoMovie button on the Home tab. You can go from zero to movie in literally a couple minutes.   Uploading to YouTube You can share your video on YouTube directly from Windows Live Movie Maker. Click on the YouTube icon in the Sharing group on the Home tab. You’ll be prompted for your YouTube username and password. Fill in the details about your movie and click Publish. The movie will be converted to WMV before being uploaded to YouTube. As soon as the YouTube conversion is complete, you’re new movie is live and ready to be viewed. Saving your Movie as a Video File Select the icon at the top left, then select Save movie. As you hover your mouse over each of the options, you will see the output display size, aspect ratio, and estimated file size per minute of video. All of these settings will output your movie as a WMV file. (Unfortunately, the only option is to save a movie as a WMV file.) The only difference is how they are encoded based on preset common settings. The Burn to DVD option also outputs a WMV file, but then opens Windows DVD Maker and walks you through the process of creating and burning a DVD.   If you choose the Burn to DVD option, close this window when the WMV file conversion is complete and the Windows DVD Maker will prompt you to begin. When your movie is finished, it’s time to relax and enjoy.   Conclusion Windows Live Movie Maker makes it easy for the average person to quickly churn out nice looking movies and slideshows from there own pictures and videos. However, long time users of previous editions (formerly called Windows Movie Maker) will likely be disappointed by some features missing in Windows Live Movie Maker that existed in earlier editions. • Fun Visual Studio 2010 Wallpapers

    - by ScottGu
    Two weeks ago I blogged about a cool new site that allows you to download and customize the Visual Studio code editor background and text colors (for both VS 2008 and VS 2010 version). The site also allows you to submit and share your own Visual Studio color schemes with others. Another new community site has recently launched that allows you to download Visual Studio 2010 themed images that you can use for your Windows desktop background.  You can visit the site here: http://vs2010wallpapers.com/  In addition to browsing and downloading Visual Studio themed wallpapers, you can also submit your own into the gallery to share with others. [In addition to blogging, I am also now using Twitter for quick updates and to share links. Follow me at: twitter.com/scottgu] Browsing Wallpaper Images The site has dozens of wallpaper images that you can browse through and choose from.  They range from the cool and abstract: To the fun and silly: Enabling the Wallpaper Images as your Windows Desktop You can zoom in on any image (hover over the image and then click the “zoom” button that appears over it) and then download it to be your Windows desktop image.  If you visit the site using Internet Explorer, you can also zoom in on the image, then right click on the image and choose the “Set as Background” context menu item to enable it as your Windows desktop. Note: you want to make sure you download the zoomed-in/high resolution version of the wallpaper to make sure it looks good as the wallpaper on your desktop. Hope this helps, Scott

  • Oracle Fusion Applications: Changing the Game

    - by kellsey.ruppel(at)oracle.com
    Originally posted in the Oracle Profit Magazine, November 2010 Edition. When the order processing system red-flags a customer's credit status, the IT department doesn't get the customer's call. When a supplier misses a delivery date for a key automotive assembly, it's not the CIO who has to answer for the error. Knowledge workers (known in IT circles as "users") are on the front lines when an exception occurs in an established business process. They're also the ones who study sales trends to decide when to open a new store in an up-and-coming neighborhood, which products are most profitable, how employee skill sets are evolving, and which suppliers are most efficient. In short, knowledge workers are masters of business as unusual. Traditional enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and other familiar enterprise applications excel at automating, managing, and executing standard business processes. These programs shine when everything goes as planned. Life gets even trickier when a traditional application needs to be extended with a new service or an extra step is added to a business process when new products are brought to market, divisions are merged, or companies are acquired. Monolithic applications often need the IT department to step in and make the necessary adjustments--incurring additional costs and delays. Until now. When Oracle unveiled the much-anticipated family of Oracle Fusion Applications at Oracle OpenWorld in September 2010, knowledge workers in particular had a lot to cheer about. Business users will soon have ready access to analytical information and collaboration tools in the context of what they are working on, so they can make better decisions when problems or opportunities arise. Additionally, the Oracle Fusion Applications platform will make it easy for business users to tweak processes, create new capabilities, and find information, often without the need for IT department assistance and while still following company guidelines. And IT leaders will be happy to hear about new deployment options, guided implementation and setup tools, and cost-saving management capabilities. Just as important, the underlying technologies in Oracle Fusion Applications will allow organizations to choose among their existing investments and next-generation enterprise applications so they can introduce innovations at a pace that makes the most business and financial sense. "Oracle Fusion Applications are architected so you don't have to do rip and replace," says Jim Hayes, managing director of the consulting firm Accenture. "That's very important for creating a business case that will get through the steering committee and be approved by the board. It shows you can drive value and make a difference in the near term." For these and other reasons, analysts and early adopters are calling Oracle Fusion Applications a game changer for enterprise customers. The differences become apparent in three key areas: the way we innovate, work, and adopt technology. Game Changer #1: New Standard for InnovationChange is a constant challenge for most businesses, whether the catalysts are market dynamics, new competition, or the ever-expanding regulatory environment. And, in an ongoing effort to differentiate, business leaders are constantly looking for new ways to do business, serve constituents, and bring new products and services to market. In addition, companies face significant costs to keep their applications up-to-date. For example, when a company adds new suppliers to a procurement system, the IT shop typically has to invest time, effort, and even consulting fees for custom integrations that allow various ERP systems to communicate with each other. Oracle Fusion Applications were built on Web services and a modular SOA foundation to ease customizations and integration activities among all applications--whether from Oracle or another vendor. Interfaces and updates written in ubiquitous Java, rather than a proprietary coding language, allow organizations to tap into existing in-house technical skills rather than seek expensive outside specialists. And with SOA, organizations can extend a feature set or integrate with other SOA environments by combining Web services such as "look up customer" into a new business process managed by the BPEL orchestration engine. Flexibility like this has long-term implications. "Because users capture these changes at a higher metadata layer, not in the application's code, changes and additions are protected even as new versions of Oracle Fusion Applications are released," says Steve Miranda, senior vice president of applications development at Oracle. "This is a much more sustainable approach because you don't incur costly customizations that prevent upgrades and other innovations." And changes are easier to make: if one change is made in the metadata, that change is automatically reflected throughout the application interface, business intelligence, business process, and business logic. Game Changer #2: New Standard for WorkBoosting productivity comes down to doing the basics right: running business processes more efficiently and managing exceptions more effectively, so users can accomplish more in the course of a day or spend more quality time with the most profitable customers. The fastest way to improve process efficiency is to reduce the number of steps it takes to execute common tasks, such as ordering office equipment from an internal procurement system. Oracle Fusion Applications will deliver a complete role-based user experience with business intelligence and collaboration capabilities provided in the context of the work at hand. "We created every Oracle Fusion Applications screen by asking 'What does the user need to know?' 'What does he or she need to do?' and 'Who do they need to work with to get the job done?'" Miranda explains. So when the sales department heads need new laptops, the self-service procurement screen will not only display a list of approved vendors and configurations, but also a running list of reviews by coworkers who recently purchased the various models. Embedded intelligence may also display prevailing delivery lead times based on actual order histories, not the generic shipping dates vendors may quote. The pervasive business intelligence serves many other business activities across all areas of the enterprise. For example, a manager considering whether to promote a direct report can see the person's employee profile, with a salary history, appraisal summaries, and a rundown of skills and training. This approach to business intelligence also has implications for supply chain management. "One of the challenges at Ingersoll Rand is lack of visibility in our supply chain," says Mike Macrie, global director of enterprise applications for global industrial firm Ingersoll Rand. "Oracle Fusion Applications are going to provide the embedded intelligence to give us that visibility and give us the ability to analyze those orders at any point in our supply chain." Oracle Fusion Applications will also create a "role-based user experience" that displays a work list of events that need attention, based on user job function. Role awareness guides users with daily lists of action items and exceptions. So a credit manager may see seven invoices with discounts that are about to expire or 12 suppliers that have been put on hold because credit memos are awaiting approval. Individualization extends to the search capabilities of Oracle Fusion Applications. The platform uses Web-style search screens powered by an Oracle enterprise search engine, with a security framework that filters search results so individuals will only see the internal information they're authorized to access. A further aid to productivity is Oracle Fusion Applications' integration with Web 2.0 collaboration and social networking resources for business environments. Hover-over text will reveal relevant contact information whenever the name of a person appears in an Oracle Fusion Application. Users can connect via an online chat, phone call, or instant message without leaving the main application, reducing the time required for an accounts payable staffer to resolve a mismatch between an invoiced charge and the service record, for example. Addresses of suppliers, customers, or partners will also initiate hover-over text to show contact details and Web-based maps. Finally, Oracle Fusion Applications will promote a new way of working with purpose-driven communities that can bring new efficiencies to everything from cultivating sales leads to managing new projects. As soon as a lead or project materializes, the applications will automatically gather relevant participants into an online community that shares member contact information, schedules, discussion forums, and Wiki pages. "Oracle Fusion Applications will allow us to take it to the next level with embedded Web 2.0 tools and the embedded analytics," says Steve Printz, CIO and vice president, supply chain management, at window-and-door manufacturer Pella. "[This] allows those employees today who are processing transactions to really contribute to the success of the company and become decision-makers." Game Changer #3: New Standard for Technology AdoptionAs IT becomes a dominant component of how businesses run and compete, organizations need to lower the cost of implementing applications and introducing new application features. In the past, rolling out new code often required creating a test bed system, moving beta code to a separate system for user feedback, and--once all the revisions were made--moving version one of the software onto production systems, where business users could finally get the needed new features. Oracle Fusion Applications will use a dedicated setup manager application to streamline this process. First, the setup manager will help scope out the project, querying users about their requirements. "From those questions and answers we determine the steps and the order of those steps that will enable that task," Miranda says. Next, system utilities will assign tasks to owners, track completion status, and monitor the overall status of a programming effort. Oracle Fusion Applications can then recommend Web services that allow users to migrate setup choices and steps across all the various deployments of the application. Those setup capabilities automate the migration from test systems to production systems, as well as between different business units that may be using the same application. "The self-service ability of the setup manager helps business users change setups with very little intervention from the IT team," says Ravi Kumar, vice president at IT services company Infosys. "That to me is a big difference from how we've viewed enterprise applications before." For additional flexibility, organizations will be able to adopt Oracle Fusion Applications modules in either of two modes: a single-instance alternative uses one database for all Oracle Fusion Applications, while a "pillar mode" creates separate databases to underpin each application. This means IT departments running any one of Oracle's applications or even third-party applications can plug Oracle Fusion Applications modules into their environment and see additional business value created on top of their existing systems. And Oracle Fusion Applications offer a hybrid approach to deployment. The applications are all software-as-a-service-ready, so customers can choose on-premises, public or private cloud, or a combination of these to suit their business needs. It's that combination of flexibility and a roadmap for the future that may be the biggest game changer of all. "The Oracle Fusion Applications architecture allows us to migrate our company at a pace that's consistent with our business strategy, whereas before we might have had to do it with a massive upgrade," says Macrie of Ingersoll Rand. "We're looking forward to that architecture to really give us more flexibility in how we migrate over time." • SQL SERVER – SELECT TOP Shortcut in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)

    - by pinaldave
    This is tool is pretty old, yet always comes as a handy tip. I had a great trip at TechEd in India. And, during one of my presentations, I was asked if there are any shortcuts to SELECT only TOP 100 records from SSMS. I immediately told him that if he explores the table in SSMS, he can just right click on it and SELECT TOP 1000 records. If he wanted only 100 records, then he could edit that 1000 to 100 by means of going to Options. Go to Options, then hover the mouse over the SQL Server Object Explorer, then proceed to Commands. Afterwards, change the Value for Select Top <n> Audit Records. After narrating the steps, he told me that he was not looking for the right click option; rather he was asking if there is any kind of keyboard shortcut for convenience’s sake. Actually, a keyboard shortcut is also possible. SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) lets you configure the settings you want using a shortcut. Here is how you can do it. Go to Options, then to Environment. Proceed to Keyboard, and from there, configure your T-SQL with the desired keyword. Now, open SSMS New Query Window, and then click and type in any table name.  After that, just hit the shortcut you just made earlier. Doing this should display TOP 100 records in the Result window. I am sure this trick is quite old, but it is still helpful to many. • Ajax Control Toolkit November 2011 Release

    - by Stephen Walther
    I’m happy to announce the November 2011 Release of the Ajax Control Toolkit. This release introduces a new Balloon Popup control and several enhancements to the existing Tabs control including support for on-demand loading of tab content, support for vertical tabs, and support for keyboard tab navigation. We also fixed the top-voted bugs associated with the Tabs control reported at CodePlex.com. You can download the new release by visiting the CodePlex website: http://AjaxControlToolkit.CodePlex.com Alternatively, the fast and easy way to get the latest release of the Ajax Control Toolkit is to use NuGet. Open your Library Package Manager console in Visual Studio 2010 and type: After you install the Ajax Control Toolkit through NuGet, please do a Rebuild of your project (the menu option Build, Rebuild). After you do a Rebuild, the ajaxToolkit prefix will appear in Intellisense: Using the Balloon Popup Control Why a new Balloon Popup control? The Balloon Popup control is the second most requested new feature for the Ajax Control Toolkit according to CodePlex votes: The Balloon Popup displays a message in a balloon when you shift focus to a control, click a control, or hover over a control. You can use the Balloon Popup, for example, to display instructions for TextBoxes which appear in a form: Here’s the code used to create the Balloon Popup: <ajaxToolkit:ToolkitScriptManager ID="tsm1" runat="server" /> <asp:TextBox ID="txtFirstName" Runat="server" /> <asp:Panel ID="pnlFirstNameHelp" runat="server"> Please enter your first name </asp:Panel> <ajaxToolkit:BalloonPopupExtender TargetControlID="txtFirstName" BalloonPopupControlID="pnlFirstNameHelp" BalloonSize="Small" UseShadow="true" runat="server" /> You also can use the Balloon Popup to explain hard to understand words in a text document: Here’s how you display the Balloon Popup when you hover over the link: The point of the conversation was <asp:HyperLink ID="lnkObfuscate" Text="obfuscated" CssClass="hardWord" runat="server" /> by his incessant coughing. <ajaxToolkit:ToolkitScriptManager ID="tsm1" runat="server" /> <asp:Panel id="pnlObfuscate" Runat="server"> To bewilder or render something obscure </asp:Panel> <ajaxToolkit:BalloonPopupExtender TargetControlID="lnkObfuscate" BalloonPopupControlID="pnlObfuscate" BalloonStyle="Cloud" UseShadow="true" DisplayOnMouseOver="true" Runat="server" />   There are four important properties which you need to know about when using the Balloon Popup control: BalloonSize – The three balloon sizes are Small, Medium, and Large. BalloonStyle -- The two built-in styles are Rectangle and Cloud. UseShadow – When true, a drop shadow appears behind the popup. Position – Can have the values Auto, BottomLeft, BottomRight, TopLeft, TopRight. When set to Auto, which is the default, the Balloon Popup will appear where it has the most screen real estate. The following screenshots illustrates how these settings affect the appearance of the Balloon Popup: Customizing the Balloon Popup You can customize the appearance of the Balloon Popup by creating your own Cascading Style Sheet and Sprite. The Ajax Control Toolkit sample site includes a sample of a custom Oval Balloon Popup style: This custom style was created by using a custom Cascading Style Sheet and image. You point the Balloon Popup at a custom Cascading Style Sheet and Cascading Style Sheet class by using the CustomCssUrl and CustomClassName properties like this: <asp:TextBox ID="txtCustom" autocomplete="off" runat="server" /> <br /> <asp:Panel ID="Panel3" runat="server"> This is a custom BalloonPopupExtender style created with a custom Cascading Style Sheet. </asp:Panel> <ajaxToolkit:BalloonPopupExtender ID="bpe1" TargetControlID="txtCustom" BalloonPopupControlID="Panel3" BalloonStyle="Custom" CustomCssUrl="CustomStyle/BalloonPopupOvalStyle.css" CustomClassName="oval" UseShadow="true" runat="server" />   Learn More about the Balloon Popup To learn more about the Balloon Popup control, visit the sample page for the Balloon Popup at the Ajax Control Toolkit sample site: http://www.asp.net/ajaxLibrary/AjaxControlToolkitSampleSite/BalloonPopup/BalloonPopupExtender.aspx Improvements to the Tabs Control In this release, we introduced several important new features for the existing Tabs control. We also fixed all of the top-voted bugs for the Tabs control. On-Demand Loading of Tab Content Here is the scenario. Imagine that you are using the Tabs control in a Web Forms page. The Tabs control displays two tabs: Customers and Products. When you click the Customers tab then you want to see a list of customers and when you click on the Products tab then you want to see a list of products. In this scenario, you don’t want the list of customers and products to be retrieved from the database when the page is initially opened. The user might never click on the Products tab and all of the work to load the list of products from the database would be wasted. In this scenario, you want the content of a tab panel to be loaded on demand. The products should only be loaded from the database and rendered to the browser when you click the Products tab and not before. The Tabs control in the November 2011 Release of the Ajax Control Toolkit includes a new property named OnDemand. When OnDemand is set to the value True, a tab panel won’t be loaded until you click its associated tab. Here is the code for the aspx page: <ajaxToolkit:ToolkitScriptManager ID="tsm1" runat="server" /> <ajaxToolkit:TabContainer ID="tabs" OnDemand="false" runat="server"> <ajaxToolkit:TabPanel HeaderText="Customers" runat="server"> <ContentTemplate> <h2>Customers</h2> <asp:GridView ID="grdCustomers" DataSourceID="srcCustomers" runat="server" /> <asp:SqlDataSource ID="srcCustomers" SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM Customers" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:StoreDB %>" runat="server" /> </ContentTemplate> </ajaxToolkit:TabPanel> <ajaxToolkit:TabPanel HeaderText="Products" runat="server"> <ContentTemplate> <h2>Products</h2> <asp:GridView ID="grdProducts" DataSourceID="srcProducts" runat="server" /> <asp:SqlDataSource ID="srcProducts" SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM Products" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:StoreDB %>" runat="server" /> </ContentTemplate> </ajaxToolkit:TabPanel> </ajaxToolkit:TabContainer> Notice that the TabContainer includes an OnDemand=”True” property. The Tabs control contains two Tab Panels. The first tab panel uses a DataGrid and SqlDataSource to display a list of customers and the second tab panel uses a DataGrid and SqlDataSource to display a list of products. And here is the code-behind for the page: using System; using System.Diagnostics; using System.Web.UI.WebControls; namespace ACTSamples { public partial class TabsOnDemand : System.Web.UI.Page { protected override void OnInit(EventArgs e) { srcProducts.Selecting += new SqlDataSourceSelectingEventHandler(srcProducts_Selecting); } void srcProducts_Selecting(object sender, SqlDataSourceSelectingEventArgs e) { Debugger.Break(); } } } The code-behind file includes an event handler for the Products SqlDataSource Selecting event. The handler breaks into the debugger by calling the Debugger.Break() method. That way, we can know when the Products SqlDataSource actually retrieves the list of products. When the OnDemand property has the value False then the Selecting event handler is called immediately when the page is first loaded. The contents of all of the tabs are loaded (and the contents of the unselected tabs are hidden) when the page is first loaded. When the OnDemand property has the value True then the Selecting event handler is not called when the page is first loaded. The event handler is not called until you click on the Products tab. If you never click on the Products tab then the list of products is never retrieved from the database. If you want even more control over when the contents of a tab panel gets loaded then you can use the TabPanel OnDemandMode property. This property accepts the following three values: None – Never load the contents of the tab panel again after the page is first loaded. Once – Wait until the tab is selected to load the contents of the tab panel Always – Load the contents of the tab panel each and every time you select the tab. There is a live demonstration of the OnDemandMode property here in the sample page for the Tabs control: http://www.asp.net/ajaxLibrary/AjaxControlToolkitSampleSite/Tabs/Tabs.aspx Displaying Vertical Tabs With the November 2011 Release, the Tabs control now supports vertical tabs. To create vertical tabs, just set the TabContainer UserVerticalStripPlacement property to the value True like this: <ajaxToolkit:TabContainer ID="tabs" OnDemand="false" UseVerticalStripPlacement="true" runat="server"> <ajaxToolkit:TabPanel ID="TabPanel1" HeaderText="First Tab" runat="server"> <ContentTemplate> <p> Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Maecenas porttitor congue massa. Fusce posuere, magna sed pulvinar ultricies, purus lectus malesuada libero, sit amet commodo magna eros quis urna. </p> </ContentTemplate> </ajaxToolkit:TabPanel> <ajaxToolkit:TabPanel ID="TabPanel2" HeaderText="Second Tab" runat="server"> <ContentTemplate> <p> Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Maecenas porttitor congue massa. Fusce posuere, magna sed pulvinar ultricies, purus lectus malesuada libero, sit amet commodo magna eros quis urna. </p> </ContentTemplate> </ajaxToolkit:TabPanel> </ajaxToolkit:TabContainer> In addition, you can use the TabStripPlacement property to control whether the tab strip appears at the left or right or top or bottom of the tab panels: Tab Keyboard Navigation Another highly requested feature for the Tabs control is support for keyboard navigation. The Tabs control now supports the arrow keys and the Home and End keys. In order for the arrow keys to work, you must first move focus to the tab control on the page by either clicking on a tab with your mouse or repeatedly hitting the Tab key. You can try out the new keyboard navigation support by trying any of the demos included in the Tabs sample page: http://www.asp.net/ajaxLibrary/AjaxControlToolkitSampleSite/Tabs/Tabs.aspx Summary I hope that you take advantage of the new Balloon Popup control and the new features which we introduced for the Tabs control. We added a lot of new features to the Tabs control in this release including support for on-demand tabs, support for vertical tabs, and support for tab keyboard navigation. I want to thank the developers on the Superexpert team for all of the hard work which they put into this release.

  • Does OSB has any database dependency?

    - by Manoj Neelapu
    Major functionality of OSB is database independent. Most of the internal data-structures that re required by OSB are stored in-memory.Reporting functionality of OSB requires DB tables be accessible.http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/doc.1111/e15017/before.htm#BABCJHDJ It should hover be noted that we can still run OSB with out creating any tables on database.In such cases the reporting functionality cannot be used where as other functions in OSB will work just as fine.We also see few errors in the log file indicating the absence of these tables which we can ignore.  If reporting function is required we will have to install few tables. http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/doc.1111/e15017/before.htm#BABBBEHD indicates running RCU recommended. OSB reporting tables are bundled along with SOA schema in RCU. OSB requires two simple tables for reporting functionality and installing complete SOA schema is little far fetched. SOA schema contains lot of tables which OSB doesn't require at all. More over OSB tables are too simple to require a tool like an RCU.Solution to it would be to manually create those tables required for OSB. To make  life easier the definition of tables is available in dbscripts folder under OSB_HOME.eg. D:\Oracle\Middleware\osb\11gPS2\Oracle_OSB1\dbscripts. $OSB_HOME=D:\Oracle\Middleware\osb\11gPS2\Oracle_OSB1If you are not planning to use reporting feature in OSB, then we can also delete the JDBC data sources that comes along with standard OSB domain.WLST script to delete cgDataSources from OSB domain . OSB will work fine with out DB tables and JDBC Datasource.

  • How To Hide YouTube Logo In Video Embeds

    - by Gopinath
    YouTube is the most popular video sharing site where you find videos shared by common users to big organizations sharing their training materials, demos and live casts. Lets an assume an organization wants to upload training/product demo videos to YouTube and embed them on their corporate website.  Would not it be nice if they can hide the YouTube logo from the embedded videos? Definitely Yes. To remove the YouTube logo you need to do a small change to the embed script before using it on your site. Add the flag modestbranding=1 as shown in the script below Here is a YouTube video embedded in this post without the logo. The catch is when logo is hidden the player shows text YouTube as a text overlay at top right corner when you hover the mouse. Hope Google will let us hide even that in the near future. • A Closable jQuery Plug-in

    - by Rick Strahl
    In my client side development I deal a lot with content that pops over the main page. Be it data entry ‘windows’ or dialogs or simple pop up notes. In most cases this behavior goes with draggable windows, but sometimes it’s also useful to have closable behavior on static page content that the user can choose to hide or otherwise make invisible or fade out. Here’s a small jQuery plug-in that provides .closable() behavior to most elements by using either an image that is provided or – more appropriately by using a CSS class to define the picture box layout. /* * * Closable * * Makes selected DOM elements closable by making them * invisible when close icon is clicked * * Version 1.01 * @requires jQuery v1.3 or later * * Copyright (c) 2007-2010 Rick Strahl * http://www.west-wind.com/ * * Licensed under the MIT license: * http://www.opensource.org/licenses/mit-license.php Support CSS: .closebox { position: absolute; right: 4px; top: 4px; background-image: url(images/close.gif); background-repeat: no-repeat; width: 14px; height: 14px; cursor: pointer; opacity: 0.60; filter: alpha(opacity="80"); } .closebox:hover { opacity: 0.95; filter: alpha(opacity="100"); } Options: * handle Element to place closebox into (like say a header). Use if main element and closebox container are two different elements. * closeHandler Function called when the close box is clicked. Return true to close the box return false to keep it visible. * cssClass The CSS class to apply to the close box DIV or IMG tag. * imageUrl Allows you to specify an explicit IMG url that displays the close icon. If used bypasses CSS image styling. * fadeOut Optional provide fadeOut speed. Default no fade out occurs */ (function ($) { $.fn.closable = function (options) { var opt = { handle: null, closeHandler: null, cssClass: "closebox", imageUrl: null, fadeOut: null }; $.extend(opt, options); return this.each(function (i) { var el = $(this); var pos = el.css("position"); if (!pos || pos == "static") el.css("position", "relative"); var h = opt.handle ? $(opt.handle).css({ position: "relative" }) : el; var div = opt.imageUrl ? $("<img>").attr("src", opt.imageUrl).css("cursor", "pointer") : $("<div>"); div.addClass(opt.cssClass) .click(function (e) { if (opt.closeHandler) if (!opt.closeHandler.call(this, e)) return; if (opt.fadeOut) $(el).fadeOut(opt.fadeOut); else $(el).hide(); }); if (opt.imageUrl) div.css("background-image", "none"); h.append(div); }); } })(jQuery); The plugin can be applied against any selector that is a container (typically a div tag). The close image or close box is provided typically by way of a CssClass - .closebox by default – which supplies the image as part of the CSS styling. The default styling for the box looks something like this: .closebox { position: absolute; right: 4px; top: 4px; background-image: url(images/close.gif); background-repeat: no-repeat; width: 14px; height: 14px; cursor: pointer; opacity: 0.60; filter: alpha(opacity="80"); } .closebox:hover { opacity: 0.95; filter: alpha(opacity="100"); } Alternately you can also supply an image URL which overrides the background image in the style sheet. I use this plug-in mostly on pop up windows that can be closed, but it’s also quite handy for remove/delete behavior in list displays like this: you can find this sample here to look to play along: http://www.west-wind.com/WestwindWebToolkit/Samples/Ajax/AmazonBooks/BooksAdmin.aspx For closable windows it’s nice to have something reusable because in my client framework there are lots of different kinds of windows that can be created: Draggables, Modal Dialogs, HoverPanels etc. and they all use the client .closable plug-in to provide the closable operation in the same way with a few options. Plug-ins are great for this sort of thing because they can also be aggregated and so different components can pick and choose the behavior they want. The window here is a draggable, that’s closable and has shadow behavior and the server control can simply generate the appropriate plug-ins to apply to the main <div> tag: $().ready(function() { $('#ctl00_MainContent_panEditBook') .closable({ handle: $('#divEditBook_Header') }) .draggable({ dragDelay: 100, handle: '#divEditBook_Header' }) .shadow({ opacity: 0.25, offset: 6 }); }) The window is using the default .closebox style and has its handle set to the header bar (Book Information). The window is just closable to go away so no event handler is applied. Actually I cheated – the actual page’s .closable is a bit more ugly in the sample as it uses an image from a resources file: .closable({ imageUrl: '/WestWindWebToolkit/Samples/WebResource.axd?d=TooLongAndNastyToPrint', handle: $('#divEditBook_Header')}) so you can see how to apply a custom image, which in this case is generated by the server control wrapping the client DragPanel. More interesting maybe is to apply the .closable behavior to list scenarios. For example, each of the individual items in the list display also are .closable using this plug-in. Rather than having to define each item with Html for an image, event handler and link, when the client template is rendered the closable behavior is attached to the list. Here I’m using client-templating and the code that this is done with looks like this: function loadBooks() { showProgress(); // Clear the content $("#divBookListWrapper").empty(); var filter = $("#" + scriptVars.lstFiltersId).val(); Proxy.GetBooks(filter, function(books) { $(books).each(function(i) { updateBook(this); showProgress(true); }); }, onPageError); } function updateBook(book,highlight) { // try to retrieve the single item in the list by tag attribute id var item = $(".bookitem[tag=" +book.Pk +"]"); // grab and evaluate the template var html = parseTemplate(template, book); var newItem = $(html) .attr("tag", book.Pk.toString()) .click(function() { var pk = $(this).attr("tag"); editBook(this, parseInt(pk)); }) .closable({ closeHandler: function(e) { removeBook(this, e); }, imageUrl: "../../images/remove.gif" }); if (item.length > 0) item.after(newItem).remove(); else newItem.appendTo($("#divBookListWrapper")); if (highlight) { newItem .addClass("pulse") .effect("bounce", { distance: 15, times: 3 }, 400); setTimeout(function() { newItem.removeClass("pulse"); }, 1200); } } Here the closable behavior is applied to each of the items along with an event handler, which is nice and easy compared to having to embed the right HTML and click handling into each item in the list individually via markup. Ideally though (and these posts make me realize this often a little late) I probably should set up a custom cssClass to handle the rendering – maybe a CSS class called .removebox that only changes the image from the default box image. This example also hooks up an event handler that is fired in response to the close. In the list I need to know when the remove button is clicked so I can fire of a service call to the server to actually remove the item from the database. The handler code can also return false; to indicate that the window should not be closed optionally. Returning true will close the window. You can find more information about the .closable class behavior and options here: .closable Documentation Plug-ins make Server Control JavaScript much easier I find this plug-in immensely useful especial as part of server control code, because it simplifies the code that has to be generated server side tremendously. This is true of plug-ins in general which make it so much easier to create simple server code that only generates plug-in options, rather than full blocks of JavaScript code.  For example, here’s the relevant code from the DragPanel server control which generates the .closable() behavior: if (this.Closable && !string.IsNullOrEmpty(DragHandleID) ) { string imageUrl = this.CloseBoxImage; if (imageUrl == "WebResource" ) imageUrl = ScriptProxy.GetWebResourceUrl(this, this.GetType(), ControlResources.CLOSE_ICON_RESOURCE); StringBuilder closableOptions = new StringBuilder("imageUrl: '" + imageUrl + "'"); if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(this.DragHandleID)) closableOptions.Append(",handle: $('#" + this.DragHandleID + "')"); if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(this.ClientDialogHandler)) closableOptions.Append(",handler: " + this.ClientDialogHandler); if (this.FadeOnClose) closableOptions.Append(",fadeOut: 'slow'"); startupScript.Append(@" .closable({ " + closableOptions + "})"); } The same sort of block is then used for .draggable and .shadow which simply sets options. Compared to the code I used to have in pre-jQuery versions of my JavaScript toolkit this is a walk in the park. In those days there was a bunch of JS generation which was ugly to say the least. I know a lot of folks frown on using server controls, especially the UI is client centric as the example is. However, I do feel that server controls can greatly simplify the process of getting the right behavior attached more easily and with the help of IntelliSense. Often the script markup is easier is especially if you are dealing with complex, multiple plug-in associations that often express more easily with property values on a control. Regardless of whether server controls are your thing or not this plug-in can be useful in many scenarios. Even in simple client-only scenarios using a plug-in with a few simple parameters is nicer and more consistent than creating the HTML markup over and over again. I hope some of you find this even a small bit as useful as I have. • View Word Definitions in IE 8 with the Define with Bing Accelerator

    - by Asian Angel
    Do you need an easy way to view word definitions while browsing with Internet Explorer? The Define with Bing Accelerator will display definitions in the same (or a new) tab and save you time while browsing. Using Define with Bing The installation consists of two steps. First, click on Add to Internet Explorer to start the process. Next you will be asked to confirm the installation. Once you have clicked Add your new accelerator is ready to use (no browser restart required). Whenever you encounter a word that needs defining highlight it, click on the small blue square, go to All Accelerators, and then Define with Bing. There are two ways to access the definition: Hover your mouse over the Define with Bing text to open a small popup window Click on Define with Bing to open a definition search in a new tab Being able to access a definition or explanation in the same tab will definitely save you time while browsing. In the example shown here you can get an idea of what SCORM means but clicking on the links inside the popup window is not recommended (webpage opens in popup and is not resizable). In the situation shown above it is better to click on Define with Bing and see more information in a new tab. Conclusion The Define with Bing Accelerator can be a very useful time saver while browsing with Internet Explorer. Finding those word definitions will be a much more pleasant experience now.
