• What are some Servlet Container pros and cons for a Solr installation?

  The SolrInstall wiki page lists seven different server / Servlet Containers compatible with Solr: Tomcat Jetty Resin JBoss WebSphere Weblogic Glassfish I'm sure that "best" is subjective, so I'll just say my criteria are: easiest to set up, best for search performance with a smallish, infrequently-updated dataset, and with the fewest number of gotchas. Jetty and Tomcat both have apt-get solr packages, so they're clearly the frontrunners for some. Jetty is used in the demo install, but there's some notes that Jetty has some difficulties handling Unicode in some cases. Tomcat is a common choice but my understanding is that it's not as lightweight and has a lot of features not needed by Solr. Is it worth considering any of the others? Are there some important pro's and cons I should be aware of?

• How to get attributes values separately for each container present on the webpage in jquery ?

  This question is in continuation to How to get attributes of container in jquer, I have different containers on my webpage and all of them have <div id = "some values"> now how can I get attributes values separately for each component ? Is there any way I can know which attribute id belong to which container div ? Currently I am using : var id = $( '.promotion' ).attr( 'id' ); But if I have multiple promotional components on page and all have same div attribute as id than how can I relate that this particular attribute id belonged to this specific container ? Update: I am having a function which is called for each container present on the page and so if I am using above mentioned code than will it not always return me the first match for id in the div and would never go to other divs and so I will always get same value for id which is for the first container ? If so than what is the work around for this ? Hope this question is clear.

Global vars vs. DI/IoC: Should datastores be assigned to global variables so any part of the application can access them? Or should they be dependency injected where required? Server persistence: Assuming a datastore's data needn't always be persisted to the server immediately, should the datastore itself handle persistence? If not, then what class should handle persistence and how should the persistence class fit into the client-side architecture overall? Is the datastore considered the model in MVC, or is it something else since it just stores raw data?

• T4 Template Interception

  I'm wondering if anyone out there knows of any T4 template based method interception systems? We are beginning to write mobile applications (currently with MonoTouch for IOS). We have a very nice core set of DI/IoC functionality and I'd like to leverage this in development for the new platform. Since runtime code generation Reflection.Emit is not supported, I'm hoping to use T4 templates to implement the dynamic interception functionality (+ TinyIoC as a container for resolution). We are currently using Castle Windsor (and intend to continue doing so for our SL and full .NET development), but all of the Windsor specific ties are completely encapsulated, so given a suitable T4 solution, it shouldn't be hard to implement an adapter that uses a T4 based implementation instead of Windsor.

  I'm starting to design a custom control with rather complex drawing. It will be a kind of chart (a kind of radar chart). It will be composed of a few axises with labels, line-regions (like spider-network) and filled shapes. The main question is what's the difference between using Path control and Polygon control? What's better to use here? The goal is to prepare control with minimal amount of c# and try to do as much as possible in xaml / binding. The next important requirement is that control should resize to parent containers' width - if possible without any long recalulations in c#.

• iPad portrait... zoomed in on load, div not at full width

  When testing out my site on my iPad, the layout works as expected in landscape mode. When I try it in portrait mode, it is zoomed in, cutting off about 20% of the right hand side. And when I zoom that out, the background of the header and the footer containers only stretches the width that it was when zoomed in. I've dug around a bit online, and I'm suspecting it might have something to do with my meta tag. When I get rid of that tag completely, it displays the way I want it to, but gets rid of any responsive layout that I've designed for less than 767px when I load it on my iPhone. (Displays as if it wasn't responsive at all). Any ideas as to how I might go about fixing this? (Here's one of the pages that I'm talking about http://dotwong.com/test/tip/docking/)

  I am writing a multi-threaded program using OpenMP in C++. At one point my program forks into many threads, each of which need to add "jobs" to some container that keeps track of all added jobs. Each job can just be a pointer to some object. Basically, I just need the add pointers to some container from several threads at the same time. Is there a simple solution that performs well? After some googling, I found that STL containers are not thread-safe. Some stackoverflow threads address this question, but none that forms a consensus on a simple solution.

  I've created a window that has some containers and widgets in it, and I want to add a new widget dynamically at run-time to one of the Vboxes in this window. So I have this code, which brings up the window: gtk_builder_add_from_file( g_builder, "window.xml", NULL ); mainwindow = GTK_WIDGET( gtk_builder_get_object( g_builder, "window" )); gtk_widget_show( mainwindow ); Then I create a new label, for example, and add it to one of the existing Vboxes, called "vbox_mid", like this: label = gtk_label_new( "Test label" ); vbox = GTK_WIDGET( gtk_builder_get_object( g_builder, "vbox_mid" )); gtk_box_pack_end( GTK_BOX( vbox ), label, TRUE, TRUE, 0 ); But this doesn't seem to work. I don't see a new label in the vbox. I have a feeling I'm missing something here, but I can't see what it is. I thought perhaps there was a special GtkBuilder call to add a widget dynamically, but I don't see anything that looks like that. I would really appreciate any help on this.

  In jQuery how would I go about wrapping a repeatable set of elements with a div? For example I have: img h4 p img h4 p img h4 p I need to wrap each img, h4, p set with a div class="container". So it will look like: <div> class="container" img h4 p </div> <div> class="container" img h4 p </div> <div> class="container" img h4 p </div> Any ideas on how I can achieve this as its driving me nuts!   Hi there, I have a page with a flash plugin. If I'm on that page, I don't want to post a message if the user wont to leaf it without saving it...: if(/containers/.test(document.location.href)){ window.onbeforeunload = function(){ return exit_text; }; } This works fine, except that I if i save the content in the flash plugin. In that case I don't want to show up that message. How can I detect the url within the onbeforeunload method? That way I can descide when to post the method! Thanks Markus

• Yahoo Astra flash component error BaseScrollPane not found

  I'm trying to use the Astra library from Yahoo but I'm getting an error saying the base class BaseScrollPane is not found. It appears to be imported from fl.containers.BaseScrollPane, which leads me to believe it should be a part of the base flash 10 library and therefore should be available, but it appears to be missing. Is this part of a separate package from somewhere? Update: For what it's worth, I found the actual class files in the Configuration/Component Source folder on my hard drive, but adding that to the class path (as well as the Components directory) did no good. I ended up fixing the issue by dragging a scroll pane component to the stage from the Components window and then deleting it, but I'm not sure what exactly that action changed that made it work, and would like to know for future reference.

• LINQ to SQL DB Connections not closing

  I am using LINQ to SQL in an asp.net mvc application. I am calling stored procedures via ajax calls. The active connections for 2-3 users goes to 100 active connections. and then server timeouts happen. I then used IOC -autofac to resuse the same repository that has a datacontext. now tho i get an active connection on the SQL server per loggedin user plus one. I have never seen this before. Why wouldnt Lin2sql not drop a connection when not in use? would calling a stored procedure in an ajax call in a loggedin session creat an a new active connection? Could a Stored Procedure with loops and or a waitfor hold open a connection??

  In MS Access 2003 I have a form whose record source is equal to a query that involves an INNER JOIN. The join is between a location table and a container table. Containers are objects that are stored in specific locations each location and container are specified by ID values. SELECT DISTINCTROW Container.Container_ID, Location.Location_ID FROM Location INNER JOIN Container ON Location.[Location_ID] = Container.[Location_ID] What I am trying to figure out is this …. When I delete a record (using the form navigation controls) in the form based on the above query which tables are affected?   Hi, I'm wondering, is it possible to collect the height of a specific div container from a separate page with JavaScript? I'm using jQuery btw and I'm in need of comparing heights of div containers. Edit: To clarify a bit more, I load content from a specific div in a separate page using jQuery. This content is faded into a different container with dynamic height. But in the small fraction of time before the content arrives, it shrinks down to it's min-height. What I've done so far is collecting the height of the container before and after the load. But it only works after I've loaded content once. Because I don't have the height before it's been loaded the first time.

• What's the best way to return something like a collection of `std::auto_ptr`s in C++03?

  std::auto_ptr is not allowed to be stored in an STL container, such as std::vector. However, occasionally there are cases where I need to return a collection of polymorphic objects, and therefore I can't return a vector of objects (due to the slicing problem). I can use std::tr1::shared_ptr and stick those in the vector, but then I have to pay a high price of maintaining separate reference counts, and object that owns the actual memory (the container) no longer logically "owns" the objects because they can be copied out of it without regard to ownership. C++0x offers a perfect solution to this problem in the form of std::vector<std::unique_ptr<t>>, but I don't have access to C++0x. Some other notes: I don't have access to C++0x, but I do have TR1 available. I would like to avoid use of Boost (though it is available if there is no other option) I am aware of boost::ptr_container containers (i.e. boost::ptr_vector), but I would like to avoid this because it breaks the debugger (innards are stored in void *s which means it's difficult to view the object actually stored inside the container in the debugger)

  While implementing a FIFO I have used the following structure: struct Node { T info_; Node* link_; Node(T info, Node* link=0): info_(info), link_(link) {} }; I think this a well known trick for lots of STL containers (for example for List). Is this a good practice? What it means for compiler when you say that Node has a member with a type of it's pointer? Is this a kind of infinite loop? And finally, if this is a bad practice, how I could implement a better FIFO.

  It is easy given a container to get the associated iterators, example: std::vector<double>::iterator i; //An iterator to a std::vector<double> I was wondering if it is possible, given an iterator type, to deduce the type of the "corresponding container" (here I am assuming that for each container there is one and only one (non-const) iterator). More precisely, I would like a template metafunction that works with all STL containers (without having to specialize it manually for each single container) such that, for example: ContainerOf< std::vector<double>::iterator >::type evaluates to std::vector<double> Is it possible? Was there a legitimate reason?

  I'm working on a rich text editor like web application, basically a XML editor written in javascript. My javascript code needs to wrap a selection of nodes from the contentEditable div container. I'm using the methods described at MDC. But since I need to synchronize the div containers content to my XML DOM I would like to avoid partial selections as described in w3c ranges: <BODY><H1>Title</H1><P>Blah xyz.</P></BODY ............^----------------^............ This selection starts inside H1 and ends inside P, I'd like it to include H1,P completely. Is there an easy way to extend the selection to cover partially selected children completely? (The code doesn't need to work with opera/IE)

• what to use in place of std::map::emplace?

  For containers such as std::map< std::string, std::unique_ptr< Foo >>, it looks like emplace() has yet to be implemented in stdc++ as of gcc 4.7.2. Unfortunately, I can't store Foo directly by value as it is an abstract super-class. As a simple, but inefficient, place-holder, I've just been using std::map< std::string, Foo* > in conjunction with a std::vector< std::unique_ptr< Foo >> for garbage collection. Do you have a interim solution that is more efficient and more easily replaced once emplace() is available?
