  There is a SID model well-known in telecom industry. Following this model you define resources as resources owned by your enterprise, and then you build resource-oriented services on top of it and then customer-oriented services and so on... So everything is based on enterprise-owned resources, which you have to identify first. What I am looking for and what I am asking is some alternative to this model, build not on enterprise-owned resources, but on resources sell by enterprise. Say, you are selling licenses for using your products. So instead of building model on top of enterprise resources you may be interested to build it on top of licenses you are selling.

  I want to know how to make Windows the default boot OS in Ubuntu 11.10, how to make Windows boot first on GRUB2, specifically for Windows 7, which is my current version. I know that are some tutorials about this, but it seems that I made a mistake, so I'm asking. Luckily nothing serious happened. I didn't lose my data. The difference between my question and the tutorials is that the tutorials are from older version. Sorry for any disturbs and redundancy of the question. I'll love it better for a GUI app that making easy the boot. P.S: I forgot to say the version of my OS's I am running Windows 7 Home Premium X64 bit Ubuntu 11.10 X64 bit I hope this will make understand better because I now saw it a tutorial that for 64 bit versions Startup-Manager doesn't work.

• What package do I need to build a Qt 5 & CMake application?

  I'm trying to build sdrangelove, which wants Qt 5 and uses CMake for its build system, on Ubuntu 13.10. What package do I need to install to give it the file it's asking for here? There are a lot of *qt5* packages, and I've tried installing the promising looking ones to no effect. All the discussions I've found either have things working fine or are talking about writing CMake build rules rather than executing them. I don't have a lot of experience with the organization of Debian/Ubuntu packaging. CMake Error at CMakeLists.txt:14 (find_package): By not providing "FindQt5Core.cmake" in CMAKE_MODULE_PATH this project has asked CMake to find a package configuration file provided by "Qt5Core", but CMake did not find one. Could not find a package configuration file provided by "Qt5Core" (requested version 5.0) with any of the following names: Qt5CoreConfig.cmake qt5core-config.cmake Add the installation prefix of "Qt5Core" to CMAKE_PREFIX_PATH or set "Qt5Core_DIR" to a directory containing one of the above files. • Synchronization between game logic thread and rendering thread

  How does one separate game logic and rendering? I know there seem to already be questions on here asking exactly that but the answers are not satisfactory to me. From what I understand so far the point of separating them into different threads is so that game logic can start running for the next tick immediately instead of waiting for the next vsync where rendering finally returns from the swapbuffer call its been blocking on. But specifically what data structures are used to prevent race conditions between the game logic thread and the rendering thread. Presumably the rendering thread needs access to various variables to figure out what to draw, but game logic could be updating these same variables. Is there a de facto standard technique for handling this problem. Maybe like copy the data needed by the rendering thread after every execution of the game logic. Whatever the solution is will the overhead of synchronization or whatever be less than just running everything single threaded?

• wireless connection will not authenticate with verizon adsl router

  hello, i have ubunto 10.10 running on an old dell xps system. when i set it up i had internet through my home wifi router on my cable modem. now the dell is at another home with an ADSL wifi router from verizon. we have entered the ssid and wep key as given from the adsl router. the other windows computers connect with the wep key and automatic detection. the ubuntu dell detects the connection but does not autenticate, keeps asking for wep key. i have tried diferent settings regarding wep, wpa, wep with hex and asci, still no results. what am i doing wrong? help please. thanks.

• ubuntu is very slow

  Hello all. I am new with Ubuntu, and it is very slow(even in Ubuntu 2D). The performance is degraded for almost any task. I just reinstalled with amd64, and tried updating the Nvidia drivers with Nvidia Xserver. but it made no difference. This is the output of free -m: total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 3006 1318 1688 0 61 699 -/+ buffers/cache: 556 2449 Swap: 3064 0 3064 tl;dr - total: 3006, used: 1318 When I see the virtual console with Ctrl+Alt+F2, I see constantly: Assuming Drive Cache: write through; asking for cache data failed; It is very frustrating. I am specifically looking for methods to communicate a specific component, and I quote from wikipedia: A high standard of professional ethics, behavior and work activities while carrying out one's profession (as an employee, self-employed person, career, enterprise, business, company, or partnership/associate/colleague, etc.). The professional owes a higher duty to a client, often a privilege of confidentiality, as well as a duty not to abandon the client just because he or she may not be able to pay or remunerate the professional. Often the professional is required to put the interest of the client ahead of his own interests.   I was reading a book about XP programming and about agile teams. While I was reading, I saw this scenario. I've never worked with a development team (just in school). So I would like what do you opine on this situation: Your boss has asked you to deliver software in a time that can only be possible to meet the project team asking if you want to work overtime without pay. All team members have young children. Discuss whether it should accept this request from your boss or should persuade the team to give their time to the organization rather than their families. What could be significant factors in the decision? As a programmer, you are offered an upgrade as project manager, but his feeling is that you can have a more effective contribution in a technical role in one administrative. Write when you should accept that promotion. Somethimes, I sacrifice my free time for accomplishing hits at work, so it's very important to me to know your opinion base of your experience.

So for us that are naives, knowing that programming is generally more difficult, why do business analysts and project managers get higher salary than programmers? What is it that makes their job a high paying job when even at most times programmers are the ones that go home late? UPDATE Excuse my ignorance, from some of the response it seems that the reason why BAs and PMs gets higher salary because they are the ones that usually responsible for the mess programmers make. But at the end of the day, it is programmers that get their hands dirty to fix the mess and work harder. So it still does not make sense.

  We have a client with a facebook page, let's say his company is called Bob Roberts Super Widgets. And if you search in Facebook for Bob Roberts Super Widgets then up he pops. But the shorthand he's commonly known by is BR Super Widgets and indeed the website we've created for him is br-super-widgets.com. In Facebook, searching for BR Super Widgets doesn't show up our Mr Bob. We don't have a lot of Facebook expertise, so asking for help here. Does anyone know how to ensure you're found in Facebook search for both short and long company names? Have found this this similar question in the Facebook forum but the poor old questioner never got a response.

• Can the Clojure set and maps syntax be added to other Lisp dialects?

  In addition to create list using parentheses, Clojure allows to create vectors using [ ], maps using { } and sets using #{ }. Lisp is always said to be a very extensible language in which you can easily create DSLs etc. But is Lisp so extensible that you can take any Lisp dialect and relatively easily add support for Clojure's vectors, maps and sets (which are all functions in Clojure)? I'm not necessarily asking about cons or similar actually working on these functions: what I'd like to know is if the other could be modified so that the source code would look like Clojure's source code (that is: using matching [ ], { } and #{ } in addition to ( )). Note that if it cannot be done this is not a criticism of Lisp: what I'd like to know is, technically, what should be done or what cannot be done if one were to add such a thing.

  Is there any difference between the two topics? I have seen companies asking for Good Programming knowledge some Good Programming logic. I believe that Programming knowledge is related to knowledge about the language in consideration and Programming logic is problem solving logic using programming (in general). One of the things that hobbyist programmers can get away with that those with a "real" job can't is lack of documentation. After all, you wrote it so you know how it works. I feel a little silly asking because it seems like such a basic thing, but how do I document my code? How should it be formatted? How should it be presented? (HTML pages? LaTeX?) • Pros and cons of using Grails compared to pure Groovy

  Say, you (by you I mean an abstract guy, any guy in your team) have experience of writing and building java web apps, know about filters, servlet mappings and so on, and so on. Also, let us assume you know pretty well any sql db, no matter which one exactly, whether it mysql, oracle or psql. At last, let pretend we know Groovy and its standard libraries, for example all that JsonBuilder and XmlSlurper stuff, so we don't need grails converters. The question is - what are benefits of using grails in this case. I'm not trying to start flame war, I'm just asking to compare - what are ups and downs of grails development compared to pure groovy one. For instance, off the top of my head I can name two pluses - automatic DB mapping and custom gsp tags. But when I want to write a modest app which provides small API for handling some well defined set of data, I'm totally OK with groovy's awesome SQL support. As for gsp, we does not use it at all, so we are not interested in custom tags as well.

• What is needed for a networked home printer?

  I've seen this question: Home network printer recommendations but I think I'm asking something more basic. I'm not really familiar with networked printers or how they work or what they do really. What I'd like is to have a printer that is accessible to anyone connected to my home network, without having to plug into the printer itself. An alternative setup might to be to have a printer that is always hooked up to one computer, like a desktop, that is almost always on and allows other computers connected on the network to print to it as well. I believe the first option is called a networked printer and the second is printer sharing. But again I'm new to this so I don't really know the details or if I'm using the correct terminology. • What are the warning signs of impending doom to watch out for on a project?

These projects can be great learning experiences, soul-crushing disasters (or both!), and can occur for a multitude of reasons: upper management change of heart under-skilled / under-resourced team emergence of superior competitor during dev cycle over/under management Once you've worked on a couple of such projects, is it possible to recognise at an early stage exactly when a project is doomed to fail? I've seen projects which were well planned out and proceeding right on schedule go horribly off the rails once the late feature requests started to roll in and get added to the final "deliverable". The proposers of these requests earned the nickname of Columbo, due to rarely leaving the room without asking for "just one more thing". • What's special about currying or partial application?

  I've been reading articles on Functional programming everyday and been trying to apply some practices as much as possible. But I don't understand what is unique in currying or partial application. Take this Groovy code as an example: def mul = { a, b -> a * b } def tripler1 = mul.curry(3) def tripler2 = { mul(3, it) } I do not understand what is the difference between tripler1 and tripler2. Aren't they both the same? The 'currying' is supported in pure or partial functional languages like Groovy, Scala, Haskell etc. But I can do the same thing (left-curry, right-curry, n-curry or partial application) by simply creating another named or anonymous function or closure that will forward the parameters to the original function (like tripler2) in most languages (even C.) Am I missing something here? There are places where I can use currying and partial application in my Grails application but I am hesitating to do so because I'm asking myself "How's that different?" Please enlighten me.

• Mod_rewrite and urls that don't end with .php

  I'm trying to use Mod_rewrite to hide the .php extensions of my pages. However, it refuses to do any rewriting unless the input url ends with .php, which makes that impossible. I can confirm that rewriting works fine as long as the url has .php at the end. RewriteRule a\.php b\.php Works, while RewriteRule a\.html b\.html does not. How can I turn off this behavior and allow it to rewrite all urls? I'm on a shared host so whatever I do has to be done from a .htaccess file. Update: There seems to be some confusion about what I'm asking here. The question is not about how to write the rule, the question is about server configuration. The rule I'm using is fine, I can test that locally. But the server I'm working with is somehow configured so that mod_rewrite doesn't attempt to rewrite anything that doesn't end with .php

• Best practices for managing deployment of code from dev to production servers?

  I am hoping to find an easy tool or method, that allow's managing our code deployment. Here are the features I hope this solution has: Either web-based or batch file, that given a list of files, will communicate to our production server, to backup those files in different folders, and zip them and put them in a backup code folder. Then it records the name, date/time, and purpose of the deployment. Then it sends the files to their proper spot on the production server. I don't want too complex an interface to doing the deployment's because then they might never use it. Or is what I am asking for too unrealistic? I just know that my self-discipline isn't perfect, and I'd rather have a tool I can rely on to do what needs to be done, then my own memory of what exact steps I have to take every time. How do you guys, make sure everything get's deployed correctly, and have easy rollback in case of any mistakes?

• Cool examples of procedural pixel shader effects?

  What are some good examples of procedural/screen-space pixel shader effects? No code necessary; just looking for inspiration. In particular, I'm looking for effects that are not dependent on geometry or the rest of the scene (would look okay rendered alone on a quad) and are not image processing (don't require a "base image", though they can incorporate textures). Multi-pass or single-pass is fine. Screenshots or videos would be ideal, but ideas work too. • Random map generation

  I'm starting/started a 2D tilemap RPG game in Java and I want to implement random map generation. I have a list of different tiles, (dirt/sand/stone/grass/gravel etc) along with water tiles and path tiles, the problem I have is that I have no idea where to start on generating a map randomly. It would need to have terrain sections (Like a part of it will be sand, part dirt, etc.) Similar to how Minecraft is where you have different biomes and they seamlessly transform into each other. Lastly I would also need to add random paths into this as well going in different directions all over the map. I'm not asking anyone to write me all the code or anything, just piont me into the right direction please. tl;dr - Generate a tile map with biomes, paths and make sure the biomes seamlessly go into each other.
