• Can the Microsoft Surface Pro drive multiple external monitors?

  I am interested in simultaneously connecting two Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP 24-inch Widescreen Flat Panels to my Microsoft Surface Pro. Currently I am attempting to utilize a StarTech Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort / DVI / HDMI Multifunction Adapter by connecting one monitor to the adapter via HDMI and the other via DisplayPort. Unfortunately, I am only getting video on the Surface itself and the monitor connected via DisplayPort. Is this StarTech adapter capable of simultaneously driving two monitors? Is the Surface itself even capable of driving two monitors?

• Multiple monitors with MAC latop/PC: how to switch output?

  I have two monitors, a PC that uses both of them, and a MAC laptop. The dilemma in my mind is how to keep the two monitor state in the PC active, while still being able to switch one monitor to the laptop's output. Is this even possible? I figure as soon as output is switched, my PC will detect a monitor has been unplugged, and will switch to a one-monitor state. The ideal would be to have a switch that switches from the PC two monitor output state to one where one monitor is being used by the MAC. Thanks for any help, Dane

• Why no multiple instances of Firefox on Linux as on Windows?

  On Windows If I run Firefox as user jack, and then try to start another instance of firefox I will be unable to, as one is already running. If I choose to run firefox as administrator, then I can have two instances of firefox, separate from each other side by side, because they are under different user accounts. This does not seem to be true on Linux. As user jack if I start firefox, like on windows I am unable to start a new instance. If I open a terminal and change to root, set XAUTHORITY to jacks .Xauthority and try to start firefox as root....I get the error that firefox is already running. Why is this? Please don't spare any technical details in your answers....thankyou.

• Hosting 3 domains on 3 PC (1 domain per PC) with only 1 static IP address

  Hey all i am trying to figure this out here. I have 3 PC's that are hooked into my router which i have a static IP for. I am currently hosting a web site (ex: blah1.com) on the 1st PC but have yet to connect PC 2 and 3 up to the network. That one PC thats online is using port 77. I direct all 80 traffic to port 77 using that servers IP address (192.168.x.xxx) My question is, how can i direct traffic for my other 2 domains (ex: blah2.com and blah3.com) to the 2 individual PC's (ip's) as i already am doing with the 1st PC if i can only use one port 80 to direct taffic to the website in?

• How do multiple displays work on a AMD 785G / ATI HD 4200 motherboard?

  I just ordered a ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO which has the AMD 785G chipset and HD4200 integrated graphic. The board has VGA, DVI, and HDMI outputs. I'm wondering how many outputs I can run at once, and from what connectors? My guess is that I can only use the VGA, and either the DVI or the HDMI in a dual setup. But not the HDMI and the DVI at the same time. Is this correct? If I have devices plugged into both the HDMI and the DVI ports is there a way to choose between which port I want to use? I have a dual 19" monitor setup, as well as a LCD TV. I'd like to run the VGA and the DVI into my two monitors, and then the HDMI to my TV. Then when I want to watch something on the TV I'd like to be able to switch over from the DVI to the HDMI. Is this possible with out crawling under my desk and unplugging/plugging things in?

• Exim redirect all unexisting accounts for local domains to a specific account

  I want to route all incoming emails for local domains only to a single account if an account is not setup for that user. I would also like each email to be written in it's own file in user folder. I have a catchall user with /home/catchall/ path where I have a mail folder made for this but so far emails wither fail to deliver (thus my rule did not work) or they do deliver to /etc/mail/catchall file.   I have an Exchange 2013 server accepting two domains: domain1.com and domain2.com. All of the exchange services (OWA, ECP, POP3, SMTP, etc.) can be found via the address mail.domain1.com. So, in the DNS records for domain1, I have the following entries: MX Record mail.domain1.com A Record mail.domain1.com - (IP Address of Server) CNAME Record autodiscover.domain1.com - mail.domain1.com Now, for domain2.com, how would I set up the DNS records? Would I have the autodiscover just be a cname for autodiscover.domain1.com? Would this allow me to leverage the certificates that I have installed for domain1?

  I have created several web sites inside IIS7 on my server. All of them use the same ip and port, but different host names. Currently I have set the host name to www.mydomain.com. Now my question is, how do I get my actual domains to target the different sites on my server. Second question. Can I set my host name to only mydomain.com to make sure that all requests to that domain is handeled by the same application? Primarily, I want both www.mydomain.com and mydomain.com to work when the user types the address in their browser.

Is that something that most current-generation video cards can do (in late 2012), or do I need to search for a specific graphics card, or specific attributes for a card? I've Googled the question but most answers talk about how to figure out if a computer that you already have can support dual monitors (generally, by plugging two monitors and seeing if they both work). Is there some key terminology that I'm missing in my searches?

  A colleague of mine wants to add a domain to our forest. He said it would be good for security. I believe him but I have no idea why it is any better than with just one domain. I read this on Wikipedia but it has no source: "Microsoft recommends as few domains as possible in Active Directory and a reliance on OUs to produce structure and improve the implementation of policies and administration."   I read that browsers sometimes block waiting for multiple images from the same host, and I'm trying to do everything I can to speed up page load times. One caveat: I need to serve files over HTTPS. Any opinions about whether this is feasible: Setup a wildcard cert for *.domain.com. Whenever I need an image, generate an number based on a hash mod 5 of the filename, and append it to an 'img' subdomain (eg img1.domain.com, img4.domain.com, img3.domain.com, etc.); the hash will make any filename always use the same subdomain, and therefore the browser should be able to cache the images Configure a dynamic virtualhost record to point all img#. subdomains to /var/www/img I am looking for feedback about this plan. My concerns are: Will I get warnings when my page has https:// links to multiple subdomains? Is the dynamic virtualhost record I'm talking about even possible? Considering the amount of processing this would require, is it likely to even produce any kind of overall benefit? We cannot make this work using Google Apps (limited to our own domain in the from-field) and we cannot make google apps or google apps domains for all our clients, so we are looking for another simple to manage and set up solution.   I have hosted two domains from GoDaddy at Linode VPS. They are mobiletoast.com and lesseltechnologies.com Thought the latter site has a separate index folder, whenever I navigate to it, I get the homepage of mobiletoast.com The strange thing is, I see the expected page (It works), when I open the site from my mobile phone. But when I open the site from my PC (any browser, without any cache, hard refresh), I get the homepage of mobiletoast.com The Linode support team says, they see the correct "It works" page. But I am not able to see that page.   I need to do a 301 redirect with apache since I'm migrating domains. What I would need to do is the following, from certain directories, redirect all of it's content to a different damin (where the file already exists). Let's say I have one.com/files/something.doc or one.com/files/other.php I have already "copied" or "backed up" all the contents of the directory, so the following already exist: two.com/old/files/something.doc and two.com/old/files/other.php So I would just need to redirect anything in the directory "files" (or whatever). • How can I get multiple video cards to work on linux?

  I installed fedora 12. I have 2 ATI cards that I used to use on windows to run 4 monitors. A recurring problem has been to get them detected in linux. Only my secondary card is picked up linux. When I manage the displays it detects the 2 monitors connected that card. What are the specific steps I should take to get the second card detected? Supposedly there is a tool system-config-xfree. I don't have it, yum can't find it. Also I heard it has something to do with editing some xorg.conf file or something to that effect. I have absolutely no idea how to find the "bus id" of my card, or lookup the horizontal refresh rates, etc.. I would probably have no problem following the documentation & editing the file if I knew a good way to find these values. Someone also suggested installing linux twice and saving the xorg.conf it generates each time (with different card each time) and then merging the two by hand. That is like killing a fly with a hammer though, when I do this again and again in the future It'd be nice to not have to take twice as long. Thanks

I want to be able to go to these certain websites normally, just not have them saved and not have to use private or incognito mode. For instance, I don't want any of Google's search result pages to be saved in my history since then when I use the awesomebar I get a lot of Google's search results, which are of no use to me. Of course I can keep on deleting them, but I would like a way to specify that any URL starting with www.google.com shouldn't be saved.

• Windows 8 Metro/Modern Start Screen with Multiple Monitors -- Keep it always maximized?

  Before installing Win 8 today, my plan was to keep the Metro UI up on my smaller, laptop monitor and have the classic UI running on my two larger monitors. However, in reality, as soon as I click on something in one of the classic UI monitors, the Metro UI minimizes (thus exposing the classic UI in its place). Is there any way to keep the Metro UI from minimizing when I do something in another monitor? Oddly enough, if there is an app running/suspended in the Metro Window, then the Metro UI is not minimized. If the Start screen is currently viewed, clicking in a classic window/monitor switches the Metro UI from the start screen to the last run app. Very peculiar..

I want to know if it's possible to use 3 devices, each one with different displays, using just one graphic card - NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS? (Original, vga with an external monitor and hdmi with a full hd tv). Where I can find this kind of information? If not possible, I would like to know alternatives like: "Usb" solutions to be possible to connect to the external lcd or to a TV. The TV should be flawless, but the second monitor can have slow response times; Cheap PCMCIA video cards to be possible to connect to an external monitor, so I would use the hdmi with the tv and this second video card to output to another monitor.
