  • free video streaming API

    - by rl123
Hi, I'm trying to build a website that will allow user to upload video files and show them as a streaming video. I'm a complete newbie in the streaming world so I don't know exactly how to do that, and I definitely don't want to reinvent the wheel. Are there any free platforms that I can use for that? Do I need a streaming server, or is there a special kind of player I can use that does not require dedicated server? Thanks!

  • When exactly is constructor of static local object called?

    - by Honza Bambas
Say we have a code like this: Some class { Some() { // the ctor code } }; Some& globalFunction() { static Some gSome; return gSome; } When exactly 'the ctor code' is executed? As for normal static variables before main() or at the moment we first call to 'globalFunction()'? How is it on different platforms and different compilers (cl, gcc, ...) ? Thanks -hb-

  • Good starting point to learn regular expressions.

    - by Jeremy Rudd
I'm good at learning new languages and platforms, though whenever I try to learn Reg Ex I cannot make sense of it. I once even used the Regular Expression Designer to try and put some together. What's a good starting point to understanding what looks like the only rocket-science programming language in the world? Links to articles, books or anything else that could help me get my grounding would be appreciated.

  • How does Dropbox use Python on Windows and OS X?

    - by robotshapes
In Windows the Dropbox client uses python25.dll and the MS C runtime libraries (msvcp71.dll, etc). On OS X the Python code is compiled bytecode (pyc). My guess is they are using a common library they have written then just have to use different hooks for the different platforms. What method of development is this? It clearly isn't IronPython or PyObjC. This paradigm is so appealing to me, but my CS foo and Google foo are failing me.

  • Are there any free tools for building AIR applications?

    - by rspeed
There is an ongoing argument on the web right now about the "openness" of the iPhone OS and Adobe Flash platforms. Adobe's argument is that anyone can build a Flash application without having to worry about being allowed to distribute it. This made me wonder… is it possible to build and distribute an AIR application without giving any money to Adobe (without violating any licenses, of course)? Are any of these tools free? Are any open-source?

  • Evaluating IIS7 with Virtual PC?

    - by Neil
Hi, I wanna do some local developer tests of IIS 7 but I don't have Windows Vista, 7 or 2008 server - I currently run XP SP3. I have Virtual PC installed so I can use Microsoft's IE compatibility images - are there any time-limited images that I can use with Virtual PC so I can check out IIS 7? The IIS 7 "Try it" link points to this page. But the VHS is for Windows Server platforms only I think and I don't want an ISO? Any advice?

  • Rhomobile vs. Phonegap considerations

    - by NewB
I'm debating between Phonegap and RhoMobile for cross platform mobile application development. I'm a web developer with experience in Ruby as well as the traditional web technologies (HTML, CSS, and Javascript). The backend of this application will be accessed via a web browser and built with Rails. What are my chief concerns when choosing between these platforms? Which would you recommend I go with and WHY? Thank you

  • How can you track mouse input using the fewest libraries in c.

    - by TimE
I'm not sure where to look to find this information, but I'd like to know how to get mouse input (or any hid input) using the fewest non standard libraries in c. Basically, is there an stdio equivalent for mouse (and other input) input in c? Or is there a library that is minimal and cross compatible on multiple platforms. Just being able to print mouse coordinates to a terminal window would be enough.

  • What are all the concurrent things [data structure, algorithm, locking mechanism] missing in .Net 3.

    - by user49767
First time I am bit disappointed in StackOverflow cause my http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2571727/c-concurrency-vs-java-concurrency-which-is-neatly-designed-which-is-better question was closed. My intension was just trying to gather knowledge from programming guru's who worked in both the programming technologies. Rather closing this question, please help me by discussing what is good, bad, and ugly in multi-threading part in both the platforms. It is also welcome, if someone would like to compare with .Net 4.0 with JDK 6 (or JDK 7)

  • Is there a way to add detailed remote crash reporting to a Flex Air application?

    - by keyboardsamurai
I will be releasing my Air/Flex application soon, but I am pretty sure there are a couple of bugs that may pop up on the various platforms that Air is available for. So I was wondering if there is a way to implement a mechanism, that would send an error report, logging where the error happened, to a remote server each time an app crashes? This way I might catch errors that otherwise would go unnoticed.

  • breakpoints not working properly on device with iOS 4.2.1 on Xcode 4.2

    - by rraallvv
That seems odd to me, but apparently, Xcode 4.2 doesn't recognice breackpoints properly on my iPod Touch 2G running iOS 4.2.1, while it does on my other Ipod Touch 4G running iOS 6.0 Both devices are enabled for development, and their debug symbols information are retrieved from both devices and copied into ~/Library/Developer/Xcode/iOS DeviceSupport/... The only thing that seems suspect to me is that 4.2.1 is missing on /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/... I have 4.2 and 4.3 but nothing in between any help is appreciated

  • Any GUI libaray for iPhone & Andriod based on OpenGL ES?

    - by Jeff
Since both iPhone and Android support OpenGL ES, is there any open source or commercial GUI library we can use for these two platforms? Or is it doable (or how difficult) to port an application from one to another platform? As I know, for iPhone only, libNUI (http://www.libnui.net) is a good choice (dynamic layout & mature), but it only provides GPL & commercial license. Any other open source tool similar with libNUI?

  • What is the best way to use Unicode in C++ on iPhone?

    - by Olli Wang
Hi, I want to create my C++ libraries with Unicode support so they can be reused on other platforms. I have found the ICU (International Components for Unicode) project but I also found a discuss about Apple rejecting for using ICU (see http://tinyurl.com/y86phfb). So how do you guys use Unicode in C++ on iPhone? Thanks.

  • Parsing query strings in Java

    - by Will
J2EE has ServletRequest.getParameterValues(). On non-EE platforms, URL.getQuery() simply returns a string. What's the normal way to properly parse the query string in a URL when not on J2EE?

  • Whats the best way to launch and promote a mobile application

    - by Georg
I´m looking forward to launch a mobile application for Android, iPhone and maybe other platforms like Blackberry, Symbian, ... too in the future. What do you think is the best way to promote this application? Is setting up a website; provide a screencast with the features; running ads on ad networks enough or are there other ways too ? What ad networks you can suggest ?
