There are no other users, and no other websites on the same machine. Is there any risk in setting 777-permissions on my site's public_html folder, bearing in mind configuration files with passwords and access keys are stored outside that root?

    I have pretty important stuff on my PC (using Windows). All the programming files, passwords etc. And now I thought: Is that even safe to store all this information on a hard drive? What if some virus (or a pseudo-antivirus gets it) M.b. it is better to buy Mac for this purpose? I kinda don't like Linux, cause I hate making million small decisions manually (what drivers to install etc) Will like to hear some opinions.

  • Reset element color to default stylesheet color (Jquery, Javascript)

    I need to be able to reset an input field back to its original color after it has been possibly changed via javascript to a different value. The problem is I do not want to hard code the value obviously in case the stylesheet changes. I would like to use the default color used on the page.     I'm trying to edit an XML schema in Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate RC, but when I go to the toolbox (with the schema open and focused) there's absolutely nothing in the Toolbox view, even when every tutorial out there that I've read tells me that there should be. I've tried using the context menu option for resetting the Toolbox to no effect. Is there something I'm missing ? Something I need to install to get this feature of Visual Studio going ?

This window appears and then disappears after less than a second and does not look like the normal "Object Test Bench" window one sees when not debugging, as it looks like this: I would like to stop this window appearing and have tried the following: Closing all Object Bench Test windows when not debugging Resetting Visual Studio to default settings (devenv /ResetSettings) Any other ideas?

  • Invalid Cross-Thread Operations from BackgroundWorker2_RunWorkerCompleted in C#

    Hello. I'm getting an error that does not make sense. Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'buttonOpenFile' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on. In my application, the UI thread fires off backgroundWorker1, which when almost complete fires off backgroundWorker2 and waits for it to complete. backgroundWorker1 waits for backgroundWorker2 to complete, before it completes. AutoResetEvent variables are used to flag when each of the workers complete. In backgroundWorker2_RunWorkerComplete a function is called that resets the form controls. It is in this ResetFormControls() function where the exception is thrown. I thought it was safe to modify form controls in the RunWorkerCompleted function. Both background workers are instantiated from the UI thread.   • Cross platform millisecond timer lasting more than 49 days?

    Hey guys, I'm going to be developing a small dedicated server in C/C++ that will require uptime of forever. I've been looking into some time functions as millisecond timing is required for calculations. I have 2 problems that I'm facing: Using a 32bit integer to store the number of milliseconds since the operation began will wrap around at about the 49 days mark resetting to zero. There doesn't seem to be any standard system calls for getting elapsed milliseconds that are platform independant What should I do to resolve both these issues?

    Hi guys Is there a way to check the data sent by a form to a PHP page return to the form page WITHOUT resetting the data sent and show a error? The form has 20 fields and I need to check one of them on a bd. If it fails the user may be redirected to the form page with the form populated and displaying a error message on the field which is 'wrong'. I would like any advice of a technique instead of populating each field using PHP.

After I became aware of this, I did these things: Changed hosting passwords (mysql, ftp, control panel) Renamed joomla admin user name to "admin" in users table (Hacker had changed the user name how?) Upgraded joomla latest Added php.ini root directory of host. Disabled cgi access But the site is still hacked. I checked up on the index.php file and owerwrite original index.php but the site is still hacked. How is this possible?

  • What should web programmers know about cryptography?

    Should programmers who build websites/web applications understand cryptography? I have no idea how most crypographic algorithms work, and I really don't understand the differences between md5/des/aes/etc. Have any of you found any need for an in-depth understanding of cryptography? I haven't needed it, but I wonder if perhaps I'm missing something. I've used salt + md5 hash to encrypt passwords, and I tell webservers to use SSL. Beyond that, I can't say I've used much else, nor can I say with any certainty how secure these methods are. I only use them because other people claim they are safe. Have you ever found a need to use cryptography in web programming aside from these two simple examples?

  • keyboard layout switching on restart

    I have two keyboard layouts that I use, My default keyboard is an USA layout, with a secondary Slovenian layout. I use the Slovenian layout only when I need some special characters when writing emails and such. But my problem is this: Every time I reboot my computer, the layout indicator shows I am on the USA layout, but the actual keyboard layout is Slovenian. Then I normally have to switch from USA to Slovenian and back, to get the layout I want. Is there anything I can do about this? I don't restart my computer often, but when I do I forget about that, and typing the passwords like that doesn't work.

  • Making an Ubuntu installation disc UEFI bootable

    I'm trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 on a machine with UEFI (Windows 8). Following Rod Books, I managed to get my system to boot using rEFInd. However rEFInd does not offer me any options to boot from my Ubuntu installer disc. Another thing...after following Rod Books' instructions, my machine greeted me with something along the lines of "The bootloader is not trusted" (my usage of the term "bootloader" is possibly wrong; I'm not well-acquainted with these terms) I got to work around this by setting up some passwords in the BIOS and putting the renamed .efi of rEFInd to the trusted list. While in this screen, it showed me the drives with a possible .efi (among them, the drive S in Rod Books' guide) and one of the drives it showed was my optical drive with an Ubuntu installer. I tried browsing for an .efi in the Ubuntu installer but found none. True enough, at Windows, I searched the drive for an .efi but found none. So how do I make my Ubuntu installer UEFI bootable?

  • New Release of ROracle posted to CRAN

    Oracle recently updated ROracle to version 1.1-2 on CRAN with enhancements and bug fixes. The major enhancements include the introduction of Oracle Wallet Manager and support for datetime and interval types.  Oracle Wallet support in ROracle allows users to manage public key security from the client R session. Oracle Wallet allows passwords to be stored and read by Oracle Database, allowing safe storage of database login credentials.   • Ubuntu, Gnome, PAM and ecryptfs

    I would like to have a directory accessible to a couple of users, and not readable by maintenance types ... I can do what I want using ecryptfs and a password known only to the "couple of users" in question, who then can mount the directory and use as they see fit. I would love to be able to automate that process and unlock the directory at login - again, only for the "couple users" in question, without asking a password. Gnome-keyring is able to store passphrases/passwords encrypted; and, apparently, if I could get a key identity to ecryptfs, Gnome PAM modules would allow the key with that identity to be unlocked, and the directory could be mounted. Alas, I have found no way to go from point A (Gnome PAM keyring module) to point B (use the unlocked key in ecryptfs). Another use of the same mechanism would allow to build a "key escrow" mechanism, where keys to encrypted volumes are safekept with, e.g., HR; so that company information in encrypted directories can be recovered if you pass under the proverbial bus.

    Hello alltogether Today I set up an ecryptfs directory, which is automatically mounted at login via pam. To do so i followed the guide in the ecryptfs readme ecryptfs-readme To sum up, I now have a key stored in the usser session keyring. The first thing I do not understand is why this key is only showing up via keyctl show and not with the gnome-gui "Passwords and encryption keys". The second thing I am curious about is the security. I assume that my passphrase is somehow stored on the harddisk. But how exactly and how secure is this? Thanks in advance

  • Gnome Keyring keeps asking for a password that doesn't exist

    When ever I long into Ubuntu, I'm immediately presented with a dialogue that asks me to enter the password that will unlock Gnome Keyring, however I was never prompted to set this in the first place, and none of the passwords I've tried are effective. How can I disable these popups and just have Gnome Keyring unlocked when I log in in the same way that encrypted home directories are automatically mounted upon log in. FWIW, I'm set to auto log in, which may or may not be useful information. Btw, I've seen this question, and the accepted answer didn't work. I'd rather not uninstall Keyring Update 1: I've disabled automatic login but it still appears.
