  • How to update terminal services client

    Currently running 5.2 on Server2003 R2 with XP SP2 & SP3 workstations that connect to it. Do the workstations have to use the updated (6.0) to be compatible? Will it mess with everyone's connection if I do the update while they are logged on? Reason for update is that people are complaining to me about grid lines that sometimes appear on the screen, researched that, and updating RDP client is my solution.

  • 2 drives, slow software RAID1 (md)

    Hello, I've got a server from hetzner.de (EQ4) with 2* SAMSUNG HD753LJ drives (750G 32MB cache). OS is CentOS 5 (x86_64). How come two exactly the same specced drives have such a difference in write speed (see util%)? I haven't really paid attention to those speeds before, so perhaps that something normal -- if someone could confirm I would be really grateful. Otherwise, if someone have seen such behavior again or knows what is causing such behavior I would really appreciate answer. I'll also add that both "smartctl -a" and "hdparm -I" output are exactly the same and are not indicating any hardware problems. The slower drive was changed already two times (to new ones). Also I asked to change the drives with places, and then sda were slower and sdb quicker (so the slow one was the same drive). SATA cables were changed two times already.

    Programs I found I found these programs to capture OpenGL 3D scene : 3D Ripper, OpenGL and D3D geometry capture, there are some solved problems with 3D Ripper GLIntercept captures OpenGL function calls OpenGL Extractor captures 3d geometry; should work as plugin for GLIntercept another tool to capture OpenGL 3D data EDIT: There is also HijackGL which changes how a scene is rendered so it probably can be used to capture geometry; it is backed up by a academic paper; it is just just a nice program, not related to what I want i think (or it would might be hard to change it to be for what I want, because it would require programming). 3D Ripper captures geometry, textures and shaders. OpenGL Extractor captures just geometry ... General questions about such programs What is Your experience with these programs? Which of these programs would You recommmend? Do You know other such programs? Were there any problems with them, or are there problems with them in general? Are there programs which work best overall, or is it specific to certain 3d applications? What I need to do? I am looking to program which can capture 3d geometry for study purposes. And also for a program to capture 3D animation (frames of 3d animation). I tried only 3D Ripper because application I try to capture data from is on Direct 3D. 3D Ripper works with at least Direct 3D 9, this application has Direct 3D 6.   • Sharepoint Services 3.0: 403 Forbidden fun

    Can't get to the Administration or the "companyweb" site itself; was working up to a week ago. Old threads, blog posts, etc. indicate that there was an issue with a KB update but was resolved when .NET Framework 2.0 SP1 was deployed/installed. Running Process Monitor, I can see a lot of PATH NOT FOUND','NAME NOT FOUND for c:\inetpub\companyweb\Default.aspx, \_themes\ice\...\foo.css, etc. for the w3wp.exe process on CreateFileorQueryOpenoperations. These files do not exist in the location specified. I don't recall these files actually existing in that folder, but I believe they're "created" when requested, pulled in from Common Files/Shared or whatever, in typically-awesome Microsoft Web architecture land (</rant>). Besides reinstalling (which I'm sure will be as much fun as migrating from one server to another was), anyone know what's going on? Google-fu has alluded me.

    I am just getting into photography as a hobby, and am looking for some good tools for image uploading/browsing/editing. I am currently using the Canon EOS utility that came with the camera for uploading, Picasa for browsing, and GIMP for editing. Pros: The files are stored using the standard file system (no proprietary library like iPhoto) Great photo editing possibilities Free (except the Canon Utility, but that was bundled) Cons: Multiple programs Hard to view the Exif Data (I like the way that iPhoto displays the data) Over-simplified editing tools in Picasa What other tools should I look into? Also, I occasionally shoot in RAW, and would prefer Mac support (better monitor), but I also have windows and linux machines.

Now I can't see reports, change accounts, or use any of the Encryption key tools in the configuration manager. I receive a "Creating Encryption Key Backup" error 0x80090016.     mdadm does not seem to support growing an array from level 1 to level 10. I have two disks in RAID 1. I want to add two new disks and convert the array to a four disk RAID 10 array. My current strategy: Make good backup. Create a degraded 4 disk RAID 10 array with two missing disks. rsync the RAID 1 array with the RAID 10 array. fail and remove one disk from the RAID 1 array. Add the available disk to the RAID 10 array and wait for resynch to complete. Destroy the RAID 1 array and add the last disk to the RAID 10 array. The problem is the lack of redundancy at step 5. Is there a better way?

    Hi there, I'm using mdadm to create a raid1 mirror across two disks. I can create my /dev/md5 array perfectly using the tools, but it does not automatically reload my /dev/md5 when I restart, I need to manually recreate the array. Am I missing something obvious here?

    I need to add shapes that have been available in Paint Shop Pro since version 7 like curved arrows, etc. I gave Paint.Net and IrfanView a try, but they don't seem to support more sophisticated shapes than straight lines, circles, or rectangles. If this is correct, does someone know of a PSP-equivalent open-source solution for Windows? Thank you.

    Hi, I've been using FTP Synchronizer for awhile and generally have had pretty good results with it. But, I've just moved to a Mac full-time (at work as well as home now) so want to get a native client if I can. I've tried the only one that I've found - SuperFlexibleSynchronizer - but it crashed every time I loaded up an FTP to FTP synch attempt. The most important features to me are: 1) ability to synch with a large number of files (thousands), as I generally work on sites with large number of files. 2) FTP to FTP synch. This would be very helpful as I work with some CMS based sites for which users upload files while on staging and don't want to move files locally first before moving live. Thanks! Evan

Well to begin with, i would like to design a load balancer for the organization i am working for. As i am very new to this whole, idea about load balancing and networks. I am finding it very difficult to start my project. I did a lot of research on already existing load balancer and found some(HAPROXY,NGINX) that could solve my problems, but the point is, I am still in a dilemma if they could answer the following requirements of mine: The client and server in my architecture are distributed. The load balancer should take care of the firewall. LB server should balance the load among all servers present in WWW cloud. The LB server should have some sort of configuration file, with the help of which it is possible to configure the servers. Heart beat: With the help of which it would be possible to check if any server is down, if any server is down the request should be passed to some other server. Various load balancing algorithms of the incoming requests. Easy error handling. It should be fairly possible to prioritize the incoming requests. Is there any already available load balncer solution on the market that could satisfy these requirements? If not is there any base code available with the help of which i could develop my own load balncer. If not where should i start from scratch? I am practically new to everything.     I have a batch file that checks several of our servers for a user. From the command: query user %userID% /server:ServerName I want to capture the output before it goes to the screen. Is there a way to redirect the output to a variable? The basic gist of what I want to accomplish is this - we iterate through our servers: query user %userID% /server:Server1 query user %userID% /server:Server2 query user %userID% /server:Server3 query user %userID% /server:Server4 Instead of outputting a message that the user could not be found on a specific server, I would like for it to only notify me if it finds the user on a server.

    My boss quite regularly has to demo our web application to clients in a situation with no wifi available and sketchy 3G access, quite often the 3G lets him down. I have considered setting a copy of our server up in a virtual machine on his laptop so he could demo it offline, but I fear this will just introduce more headaches when he forgets how to boot the VM up. What I'd ideally like is an app that records you logging into a web app, saves copies of all the pages and ties the links and buttons you click up to offline copies of the pages it saves. So you could run through the demonstration you're going to give and have it cache the pages. When you then click the same buttons and links in offline mode it will present the relevant offline pages. Does such a thing exist? Can anyone recommend any alternative solutions to this problem? Thanks, Anthony

  • Some services refusing to start on Win 7 machine. What could the root cause be?

    When I check msconfig, there are no services that are blocked from starting up. When I look in services.msc, the problem services have a start up type of 'Automatic', but have a blank space where others will show 'Started'. Attempting to start them manually results in the following pop up error messages. I have no idea what's causing this, looks like some sort of cascade effect from another problem service. It's affecting scheduled tasks, SQL server agent and windows back up services. How can I resolve this? I don't know how to work out what the root cause is. Task Scheduler Service Start Error: "Windows could not start the Task Scheduler service on local computer. 1068: The dependecy service or group failed to start. SQL Server Service Start Error: "The SQL Server Agent service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs." UPDATE: I've just noticed some other services have a description of "Failed to Read Description. Error Code: 2" They are: NetMsmqActivator, NetPipeActivator, NetTcpActivator, NetTcpPortSharing UPDATE 2: As joeqwerty says the Event Log service does seem to be the root of the problem. This service will not start either. It fails with 'Error 31 - A device attached to the system is not functioning correctly'. I've tried detaching all devices. You can find step-by-step instructions on removing the filters on about.com" I followed the advice through to checking every component in device manager separately, but everything is reported as working correctly!? These services did all work at one point. The hardware set up hasn't changed much. Guess I'm looking at a repair install maybe???!
