• Cocoa Screensaver Framework error message

  Hi, I'm trying to make a screen saver using the cocoa screensaver framework. The project builds fine and generates the .saver file, but when I try to run it in the preferences test window, it displays the error message: "You cannot use the screen saver with this version of Mac OSX. Please contact the vendor to get a newer version of the screen saver" I have the xcode settings to Release | x86_64, and I am running OSX 10.6.6 on a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 Macbook Pro. I've searched around online, and most of the solutions to this error message seem addressed to making sure the build is 64-bit, which the x86_64 setting should indeed take care of. I am trying to play a QT movie in the screensaver, if that makes any difference. I am at a loss, any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

• In Vim, what is the best way to select, delete, or comment out large portions of multi-screen text?

  Selecting a large amount of text that extends over many screens in an IDE like Eclipse is fairly easy since you can use the mouse, but what is the best way to e.g. select and delete multiscreen blocks of text or write e.g. three large methods out to another file and then delete them for testing purposes in Vim when using it via putty/ssh where you cannot use the mouse? I can easily yank-to-the-end-of-line or yank-to-the-end-of-code-block but if the text extends over many screens, or has lots of blank lines in it, I feel like my hands are tied in Vim. Any solutions? And a related question: is there a way to somehow select 40 lines, and then comment them all out (with "#" or "//"), as is common in most IDEs?

• Zip Code to City/State and vice-versa in a database?

  I'm new to SQL and relational databases and I have what I would imagine is a common problem. I'm making a website and when each user submits a post they have to provide a location in either a zip code or a City/State. What is the best practice for handling this? Do I simply create a Zip Code and City and State table and query against them or are there ready made solutions for handling this? I'm using SQL Server 2005 if it makes a difference. I need to be able to retrieve a zip code given a city/state or I need to be able to spit out the city state given a zip code.

• Zend Framework on a Shared Host

  I am trying to push my first ZF project to my shared hosting provider. I have done a lot of testing on my home server and everything is working great. My issue is that I do not know how to set up my .htaccess files on the shared hosting provider to make it work correctly. The ZF documentation says to configure my Apache config VirtualServer DocumentRoot to /whatever/path/project-folder/public, but I don't have that kind of access. How do I get around this? I have seen http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1115547/zend-framework-on-shared-hosting but none of those solutions have worked for me. My application path looks like this / - .htaccess - /application ... - /public -- .htaccess -- index.php -- ... ... • urllib alternative for iPhone

  hi, I am trying to create an iPhone application which in some point connects to the internet, fills an on-line form, fetches the resulting website, parses it and returns a string to the user. I want all this process to happen in the background. I know how to do this kind of things with python and urllib but in objc I can't find an alternative, from on-line search I found either sites that explain how to use webkit to retrieve webpages (I suppose this is for displaying them to the user) or how to parse an existing HTML file or string. Since I want the file to be retrieved from the internet and the whole process should be running in the background, neither of these solutions covers my needs.

• url rewriting + Asp.Net Login Form = Death

  Hi, on our site we do url rewriting to generate massive amounts of database generated pages. on every page, there is a Login control for users. like this: Internal aspx page: /DB.aspx?id=123 User visible url: /ABC/123.aspx, /ABC/456.aspx ... (url rewritten) unfortunately, the tag on each page has an action attribute of "DB.aspx?id=123". when the user clicks the button the browser is posting to /ABC/DB.aspx?id=123 which of course does not exist. solutions i tried: 1. change the action attribute by subclassing HtmlForm. this destroys the all other forms on the site. 2. remove the action attribute (so that the browser is always posting to the same url). this works on the rewritten pages but on "/" (the default.aspx in the root dir) i get a message that the verb post is not allowed on "/" (iis 6 and i have no control over mappings) anybody?

  I have a blog that I would like to increase traffic on. I've read lots of technical blogs, but it's a lot different writing a blog versus reading a blog. There seems to be several ways to write a post. General article: I like this tool. This is how I do it. Specific technical issue: Programming solutions. I do get some traffic, but they don't leave any comments. Should I use HN and Reddit. What are some of the other places I can promote my blog? How to respond to negative comments (trolls)? • Style Only Underline

  I have a header that is underlined using text-decoration: underline; The only problem is the line is too thin. I would like to make only the underline thicker. I have considered using border-bottom to do this but the border stretches the full width of the container and the text is centered. Doesn't work. I do not think this is possible and I am ready for the crisicm but it never hurts to ask. Never know what solutions one may come up with.

  Hello, I am unable to render Chinese characters in IE 8. I have researched this and I am aware of the meta tag to force compatibility mode. I am also aware of the language pack you can install. Finally I have seen that Microsoft actually forces IE7 compatibility mode on their Chinese website. http://www.microsoft.com/zh/cn/default.aspx I am wondering if anyone has any alternatives solutions to this problem. None them seem that appealing to me. I am using utf8 as my encoding and this problem only occurs in IE8. Thanks

• Convert Google results object (pure js) to Python object

  So I'm trying to use Google Map suggest API to request place name suggestions. Unfortunately I can't find the docs for this bit. Here is an example URI: http://maps.google.com/maps/suggest?q=lon&cp=3&ll=55.0,-3.5&spn=11.9,1.2&hl=en&gl=uk&v=2 which returns: {suggestion:[{query:"London",... I want to use this in python (2.5). Now in proper JSON there would have been quotations around the keys like so: {"suggestion":[{"query":"London",... and I could have used simplejson or something, but as it is I'm a bit stuck. There are two possible solutions here; either I can get to the API code and find an option to return proper JSON, or I do that in python. Any ideas please.

• ASP.NET Treeview Control not expanding on click

  I having an issue with the ASP.NET Treeview control. I create the treeview just fine but the nodes will not expand or collapse. I see there is a javascript error but it is for line 1 character 0 of the webpage, there is nothing at line 1 character 0. I am using the ASP:Treeview control in conjunction with the Telerik controls, but I'm not sure if that is an issue. I saw there was a similar question here but the answer is not pertinent to my site. Has anyone run into this issue before? I've tried searching Google and tried a number of proposed solutions but so far none have worked. Thank you,

• Link to specific page on Google Document Viewer on iPad

  I am thinking of using the Google Document Viewer to show PDF files that are hosted by our company server. The scenario is: A webpage will contain a menu with menu items that are actually different pages of a PDF file. After clicking a menu item, that particular page from the pdf will be displayed on that same web page This project is targeted for mobile devices (iPad, for now) Now, I am using an iFrame like below: But I don't know if linking to a specific page is possible or Google would like that because I tried the solutions posted on how to open specific page on Google's docs viewer and http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2009/11/link-to-page-in-googles-document-viewer.html but all of them seem to be outdated. • Audio Player with Custom Buttons

  I am developing a website but require help regarding a simple javascript audio player. Currently, I have four divs set up as the "buttons" : previous song; pause; play; and next song. Pretty much self explanatory, each button serves its obvious function, previous song, pause the song, play the song, and next song. With this in mind, I am also hoping to have the music start playing right after the page completes loading. I understand there are numerous javascript solutions that involve the use of third-party "applications" such as jplayer, however, I am not well learned in javascript and would like to request the aid of the general body in this matter. LOL. that was awkwardly formal. Um, but yes. I am looking for a way to use my four divs as the controllers of a multi-track audio player. Thanks,

• Circular dock/menu in css or jquery

  Is it possible to have a circular menu or dock using css or jquery.? I have a set of images as the dock items that need to be displayed as a circular dock... however the number of items in the dock are not constant and may vary.... so i cannot tend to use constant values for positioning each item in a pre-defined manner. Ajax loads some images into this particular div and i need to use css or jquery to style this so that they get displayed as circular dock items. Any idea on how this can be implemented..? I would like a browser in-specific implementation, but i also welcome if some one has some solutions specific to few browsers... UPDATE I don't think i exactly want a pie menu... it easily gets messed up as the number of dock items increase. I am looking for a spiral dock. and by spiral i mean that the menu items must be in the following alignment..

• How can I convert a timestamp to a user-friendly time string

  I want to be able to present "today" and "yesterday" for recent dates in my application. I've got a date formatter in use currently to show dates (retrieved from data records) and will keep using this for anything more than a couple of days old. I just really like the way the SMS app in the iPhone shows dates for recent messages and would like to emulate this. The time-stamps that I have to work with are generated on a server that the phone downloads the data records from. All times are therefore generated at UTC (i.e. GMT) time. I've been fiddling about with this for a while the solutions I've devised just seem horribly long-winded. Can anyone suggest how to implement a method that could do this? Cheers - Steve.

What we really want is to distribute email's delivery between 2 or more servers. With autoconf I can determine whether shared_ptr is available as std::tr1::shared_ptr and/or boost::shared_ptr. Given that the same feature has two different names, I have the following questions: In the code, how should shared_ptr be referenced? Should std::tr1::shared_ptr be preferred over boost::shared_ptr? I'm thinking of this pseudocode: mov eax, [number] while(eax != 0) { div eax, 2 if(edx == 1) { ecx++; } shr eax, 1 } Is there a more efficient way? I'm using NASM on a x86 processor. (I'm just beginning with assembler, so please do not tell me to use code from extern libraries, because I do not even know how to include them ;) ) (I just found http://stackoverflow.com/questions/109023/best-algorithm-to-count-the-number-of-set-bits-in-a-32-bit-integer which also contains my solution. There are other solutions posted, but unfortunatly I can't seem to figure out, how I would write them in assembler)

• Explain this O(n log n) algorithm for the Cat/Egg Throwing Problem

  This problem (How many cats you need to throw out of a building in order to determine the maximal floor where such a cat will survive. Quite cruel, actually), has an accepted answer with O(n^3) complexity. The problem is equivalent to this Google Code Jam, which should be solvable for N=2000000000. It seems that the O(n^3) solution is not good enough to solve it. From looking in the solutions page, jdmetz's solution (#2) seems to be O(n log n). I don't quite understand the algorithm. • Hiding text under an image for SEO purposes

  I am going to use a large image on my page with a bunch of text on it. The reason I am including body text on an image is because the text will be rotated, and there currently isn't any GREAT solution for rotating text seamlessly across all browsers. On this image, there is a lot of text, and I want it to be indexed by search engines. (but its a picture so it's content won't be indexed, obviously) If I was to include a div with all the text html and set the css to display:none, would Google still index the content that is hidden under the picture? Are their any other solid solutions here?

  Hi Guys. I have tried to find out the working solution for implementing simple events booking system in Drupal 6 (limited places, payment, signing up/buying few places for firends). System does not have to be big but easy to customize events to reserve/book places for. I was surprised of not finding much complete solutions. Most of the time I was directed to use modules like: Date, Calendar, Singup, Singup Ubercraft integration, Ubercraft. Does anybody of you has tested it? Is it working and customizable or you would suggest other alternatives on the subject? Wiil appreciate any recomendations.

• Flash content in eLearning: one SWF vs. many?

  I am designing a Flash-based language course, and I am not sure which architecture I have to choose. The content won't be uploaded to the Internet, it will be used only locally. Possible architectures: 1) A single SWF with all the data stored internally - it seems a rather clumsy and inefficient way (or it's not?). 2) To make a Flash-based interface, and to keep the data saved in a MySQL database. It presumably allows to organize the content better, avoiding self-repetitions. The problem is that the language teacher (who is not an IT specialist) will have to install additional software to handle MySQL. 3) To make a number of separate SWF files, and to make a simple HTML-file with the index. (and some other solutions I didn't think of) Which is the right architecture, most usable for the teacher and most elegant from the IT point of view?

• Single static HTML file: how can I serve it efficiently?

  Good afternoon. I have a domain and server that I've procured for non-HTML services. Should anyone stumble across port 80 of this server, I'd like to serve them a page explaining what the domain & server is for, instead of just 404'ing them. How can I serve one small, static, independent (i.e.: no images or CSS) HTML file, with a minimum of effort (meaning both a smooth setup for me, and minimum CPU expense). The server contains an untouched installation of ArchLinux, and I'm open to solutions in any language. (Note: I am a slight newbie when it comes to this, so forgive me if this question seems trivial or obvious.) Thank you.
