• Why is 1942/4/3 00:00:00 an illegal date in java.util.Calendar?

  Is there something special in the date 3rd of April 1942? For some reason the the hour of day 0 (12:00 am) is illegal for this specific date. The date is accepted when a lenient calendar is used but the hour of day is incremented to 1 (1:00 am). Relevant code java.util.Calendar calendar = java.util.Calendar.getInstance(); calendar.clear(); calendar.setLenient(false); calendar.set(1942, 3, 3, 0, 0, 0); calendar.getTimeInMillis(); Exception java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: HOUR_OF_DAY at java.util.GregorianCalendar.computeTime(Unknown Source) at java.util.Calendar.updateTime(Unknown Source) at java.util.Calendar.getTimeInMillis(Unknown Source) I'd really prefer is the dates were not lenient as I don't want to accept impossible dates.

  I am using jdbc to connect to a postgresql database in a java application (actually the app is written in Groovy). I have postgresql set up to use the 'trust' authentication method. Is it possible to open a jdbc connection without specifying a password? When I try to use the normal constructor with a blank password, it fails with Exception in thread "Thread-2" org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: FATAL: password authentication failed for user "myuser" Even though, from the command line, this works fine psql -U myuser mydatabase Welcome to psql 8.3.5, the PostgreSQL interactive terminal. • Why Use java.lang.reflect.Array For Anything Other Than Array Creation?

  Java Class java.lang.reflect.Array provides a set of tools for creating an array dynamically. However in addition to that it has a whole set of methods for accessing (get, set, and length) an array. I don't understand the point of this, since you can (and presumably would) cast your dynamically generated array as an array upon creation, which means you can use the normal array access (bracket notation) functionality. In fact, looking at the source code you can see that is all the class does, cast the array, and throw an exception if the cast fails. So what's the point / usefulness of all of these extra methods?

  I'm learning Java and I have no idea how to do this. Cannot find symbol. "Cannot find symbol". I don't understand. Why is it so dificult and why are the errors so esoteric. :P

  I am attempting to use Android XML-RPC and for some calls I get the following exception: W/System.err( 837): java.io.IOException: Cannot serialize java.lang.Object@43759748 It looks like it is having troubles serializing the returned data, but I cannot find much documentation on how to actually use Android XML-RPC. The way I am using Android XML-RPC is as follows: Object response = (Object)client.call("sales_order.list", new Object()); This one is pretty odd. I have tried setting this call up in a few different ways (using HashMaps, not passing second variable, etc) and the response I get is that sales_order.list is not a valid Method. I have been able to login to the service using the following code: this.sessionId = (String)client.call("login", this.apiUserName, this.apiPassword); Does anyone have any ideas or a good resource on how to use Android XML-RPC?   Hi , I have a .NET windows application which uses the Google Translate API. When trying to translate strings today i got a "Terms of Abuse" exception. To use a google API effectively, it is recommended that you register for a key which should resolve this problem. My translate API does not use a key. However to use a key,the site states that we would need to enter a valid URL of ours - e.g. http://localhost etc. However this one is a windows application. How do i get a valid key?

  Hi. I've identified a difference of DLR between .NET 4.0 Beta 2 and the last release of .NET 4.0. In .NET 4.0 Beta 2, this code perfectly works at runtime : var dateTimeList = new List(); dynamic myDynamicObject = dateTimeList; object value = DateTime.Now; myDynamicObject.Add(value); Now, with last release of .NET 4.0, I have an exception at run time (to solve myDynamicObject.Add(value);) :-( In my real code, 'myDynamicObject' is a dynamic (but I know that it is always an ObservableCollection where T can be anything). 'value' is an instance which was got by some reflexions. As 'value' can have any type, the type of 'value' is Object. Do you see how can I solve this new limitation of .NET 4.0 ? Thanks

• iPhone Application crashing upon loading a new Detail View

  Hi, My problem is when trying to load a detail view through a table cell, the application constantly crashes. The error that comes up when running through debug is "__TERMINATING_DUE_TO_UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION___" objc exception thrown. If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated. I also have a data table and data adaptor, both of which I know work. I am trying to update something in the database, yet it isn't working. Assume everything listed is declared correctly. What am I doing wrong? teacher_control_table.Rows(0)("DATA_TeacherLockPasscode") = txtPasscode1.Text table_adaptor2.Update(teacher_control_table) That last line throws the following exception: InvalidOperationException was unhandled. update requires a valid UpdateCommand when passed DataRow collection with modified rows.

  I'm doing some experiments locally that require some data from a production MySQL DB that I only have read access to. The schemas are nearly identical with the exception of the omission of one column. My goal is to write a script that I can run everyday that extracts the previous day's data and imports it into my local table. The part that I'm most confused about is how to download the data. I've seen names like mysqldump be tossed around but that seems a way to replicate the entire database. I would love to avoid using php seeing as I have no experience with it. I've been creating CSVs but I'm worried about having the data integrity (what if there is a comma in a field or a \n) as well as the size of the CSV (there are several hundred thousand rows per day).

I've been trying to figure out why this is the case. It seems to me that if parameterTypes, when null, had no concept of what type it is (Class[]), then I'd need to cast it for getMethod(). But if that's the case, why is getMethod() able to tell the difference between null, and (Class[]) null when the method is invoked?

  I've been trying to get Jetty to run my web app via a custom launcher (embedded). I am trying to figure out how to tell Jetty which java compiler to use for JSPs. I want to do what java -jar start.jar -OPTIONS=jsp does, but without using start.jar. Here is what shows on the console: Javac exception, Unable to find a javac compiler; com.sun.tools.javac.Main is not on the classpath. Perhaps JAVA_HOME does not point to the JDK Do I need to put the javac libraries into my classpath?

  We have the following legacy 2.0.7 Spring code: final Map<String, MyClass> secondaryFactories = (Map<String, MyClass>) context.getBeansOfType(MyClass.class, false, true); return (MyClass) context.getBean("myClass"); where context is an instance of org.springframework.context.support.AbstractApplicationContext Note that we ignore the return value of getBeansOfType(). This works just fine, but the problem is that the call to getBeansOfType() is time-consuming. However, even though we ignore the return value of this call, if we try to eliminate this call, then the instance of MyClass returned by getBean() is not fully initialized. (So, apparently, the call to getBeansOfType() is having some sort of side-effects that we need.) We suspect that the call to getBeansOfType() is overkill and we could do something more lightweight so that the instance of MyClass obtained by the call to getBean() would be fully initialized (but it's not null and no exception is thrown). So, is there a more efficient way of doing this?

  Recently a guy from our 3rd line team thought it would be funny to delete my account from AD. This has now been re-added. Everything is back to normal apart from my Access to Sharepoint sites. I am getting "The file exists. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070050)" Error on all sites. After some googleing I came across a guy with the same issue and it was an issue with the SID being different from my old account. Since this I deleted my account from Site Administrators and re-added. This would refresh the SID with the new one. I also check on the Content database that the site ID matched using the following transactions and the SIDs match. select s.Id, w.FullUrl from Sites s inner join Webs w on s.RootWebId = w.Id select * from UserInfo where tp_Login='domain\username' and tp_SiteID='' I am now a bit clueless.

When I perform the following steps Let the login cookie expire Click on a link that requires a logged in user The user is redirected to the login page Click the browser back button The user is redirected to the login page again Log in using a valid username/password I get this exception Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster. This case appears only in safari (windows and mac). The fundamental difference between safari and other browsers is that when we click the back button in step 4, safari shows the login page again, while the other browsers show the previous page the user was working on. Please help in this regard

  It it possible to enable validation in an ASP.NET GridView purely declaratively? What I've tried: A GridView bound to an ObjectDataSource with SelectMethod and UpdateMethod defined The GridView contains some ReadOnly BoundField columns and a TemplateField whose EditTemplate contains a TextBox and a RegularExpressionValidator that only allows numeric input in the TextBox. The GridView also contains a CommandField with ShowEditButton=true and CausesValidation=true. If I click on Edit, enter an invalid value, then click on Save, there is a PostBack, and an exception is thrown in the server (Input string was not in a correct format).
