• NoSQL replacement for memcache

  We are having a situation in which the values we store on memcache are bigger than 1MB. It is not possible to make such values smaller, and even if there was a way, we need to persist them to disk. One solution would be to recompile the memcache server to allow say 2MB values, but this is either not clean nor a complete solution (again, we need to persist the values). Good news is that We can predict quite acurately how many key/values pair we are going to have We can also predict the total size we will need. A key feature for us is the speed of memcache. So question is: is there any noSQL replacement for memcache which will allow us to have values longer than 1MB AND store them in disk without loss of speed? In the past I have used tokyotyrant/cabinet but seems to be deprecated now. Any idea?

Doesn't that the value of 'x' in a() should be 'gone' as soon as test = new a() is complete? The stack contains x should also be gone as well, right? Or, does javascript always keep all the stacks ever created in case they will be referenced in future? But that wouldn't be nice, would it...?

  Hello, I have a file with lines having some fields delimited by "|". I have to extract the lines that are identical based on some of the fileds (i.e. find lines which contain the same values for fields 1,2,3 12,and 13) Other fields contents have no importance for searching but the whole extracted lines have to be complete. Can anyone tell me how I can do that in KSH scripting (By exemple a script with some arguments (order dependent) that define the fileds separator and the fields which have to be compared to find duplicates lines in input file ) Thanks in advance and kind regards Oli

• Redirecting before POST upload has been completed

  I have form with file upload. The files to be uploaded actually are pictures and videos, so they can be quite big. I have logic which based on headers and first 1KB can determine if the rest will be processed or immediately rejected. In the later case I'd like to redirect client to error page without having to wait for upload to finish. The case is, that just sending response before POST is complete doesn't seem to work. The redirect get's ignored and if I close connection, browser complains with "Connection reset by peer" error. So the question is: is it even possible to do that in pure HTTP (without JavaScript on client-side), and if so, how?

• Java multidimensional array and scanner novice Q

  I'm new to Java and trying to in essence implement a grid with a character, and if the user inputs 'w' 'a' 's' or 'd' the character moves up/down/left/right within the plane. I created a multidimensional array sized 10x10 public static String[][] grid = new String[10][10]; And then just used a for loop to print "*"s in a 10x10 grid, except for grid[a][b] which is equal to character "A" i.e. my thing to be moved around. That seemed to work alright, then I needed to detect the 'wasd' input from the user so I set up a: Scanner in = new Scanner (System.in); while (in.hasNext()) And I had then: String s = in.next(); char ch = s.charAt(0); switch (ch) but I couldn't make this work, and it wasn't because I didn't complete the "switch" statement, I did, I just see it void copying and pasting the entire thing. I'm sure its incredibly easy slight thing I am missing, can you please point it out for me?

• How can I seperate my TransactionScope so they don't interfere with each other?

  I have some business logic that executes within a simple TransactionScope. using (var scope = new TransactionScope()) { // does some logic. // then some more... scope.Complete(); } During execution an ado exception ocurres and the transaction is on it's way to being disposed. In the mean time the exception is captured further upstream, and I try to log it to my database, via another connection. At this point I get another error saying The operation is not valid for the state of the transaction. Eeek! Now I can see I am able to use IsolationLevel, to change the way my transactions interact, but is this the right thing to do? And which should I use?

• sql server db deployment script ignoring constraints etc until commit

  Hi all, I am planning on doing a database deployment script for sql server 2005. Currently we have a tool that will run all of the tables, foreign keys, indexes and then data, each of which is located in a separate file with a certain extension (eg. tab, .kci, .fky) and the tool just runs *.tab, *.kci, *.fky into the db etc. Could I possibly combine all of thse into one file and have them run ignoring referential integrity until they are all complete, I would turn it on before we started inserting test data. It is just unmanageable having to maintain 4 or 5 different types of scripts for one table. Are there any issues I should be aware of? Cheers

  I have been trying to mimic this website http://www.designrattan.co.uk/daybed/apple for a while now. I need to make a page where the customer can click "View 360" and then it changes the DIV to show the product 360 (for which I already have the code for). I also need to make it so that when it is clicked the span text then changes to "Back to Image" I have tried many times and have failed to get the Javascript code and HTML to work well together. My efforts can be seen here: http://designliving.tk/winchester-rattan-garden-round-table-set As you can see it is a complete fail as it doesn't change the DIV it just displays a new one. Also when you click the button it then changes to text instead of a new button.   Question: In the path HUDSON_HOME/jobs/<jobname>/builds/<timestamp>/workspace-files, there are a series of .tmp files. What are these files, and what feature of Hudson do they support? Background Using Hudson version 1.341, we have a continuous build task that runs on a slave instance. After the build is otherwise complete, including archiving the artifacts, task scanner, etc., the job appears to hang for a long period of time. In monitoring the master node, I noted that many .tmp files were being created and modified under builds//workspace=files, and that some of them were very large. This appears to be causing the delay, as the job completed at the same time that files in this path stopped changing. Some key configuration points of the job: It is tied to a specific slave node It builds in a 'custom workspace' It triggers a downstream job that builds in the same custom workspace on the same slave node

  I'm running a cron job (every 15 minutes) which takes about a minute to execute. It makes lots of API calls and stores data to the database. Right now I create a mysql connection at the beginning and use the same connection through out the code. Most of the time is spent making the API calls. Will it be more efficient to create a new database connection only when it's time to store the data (below)? I am slightly confused about it. I understand that Linux is available under GNU-GPL license as well. Does it mean ALL linux application are and has to be open source? Does it mean I can ask for the source code of complete Oracle DB from Oracle Corp (at least the part that runs on Linux)?

  New to Android need help with one solid build that I can refer to and study for future projects. The first activity is a background image with a button,when clicked the it takes you to the second activity which is a form with 5 data fields and 2 buttons. One button calls an intent to take a picture within the app and one button that submits the data from the form along with the picture to URL. lastly a third activity that says complete thank you. I can make some of this but don't know how to link button or open and merge camera with the app to be sent as a package of data. I suppose I could also hook into GPS acquire location as well as the camera call?

Following lucene rules I'd have to escape the minus, resulting in foo\-bar Last I'd have to urlencode the backslash resulting in foo%5C-bar So the complete url would be: http://127.0.0.1:5984/_fti/local/db/_design/foo/by_subject?q=foo%5C-bar Neither works. The result is always split in two phrases "q":"default:foo default:bar" Leading to documents containing only foo or bar being found also. Thanks for your help!

  given a large list of alphabetically sorted words in a file,I need to write a program that, given a word x, determines if x is in the list. Preprocessing is ok since I will be calling this function many times over different inputs. priorties: 1. speed. 2. memory I already know I can use (n is number of words, m is average length of the words) 1. a trie, time is O(log(n)), space(best case) is O(log(n*m)), space(worst case) is O(n*m). 2. load the complete list into memory, then binary search, time is O(log(n)), space is O(n*m) I'm not sure about the complexity on tri, please correct me if they are wrong. Also are there other good approaches?

• Saving core data in a thread, how to ensure its done writing before quitting?

  So I'm saving small images to core data which take a really short amount of time to save, like .2 seconds but I'm doing it while the user is flipping through a scroll view so in order to improve responsiveness I'm moving the saving to a thread. This works great, everything gets saved and the app is responsive. However, there is one thing in the core-data + multithreading doco that worries me: "In Cocoa, only the main thread is not-detached. If you need to save on other threads, you must write additional code such that the main thread prevents the application from quitting until all the save operation is complete." Ok, how do you do that? It only needs to last ~ .2 seconds and its rarely going to happen since the chance of the app quitting as something is saving is very low. How do I run something on the main thread that'll prevent the app from quitting AND not block the gui? Thanks

• router gets disconnected once I terminate my SIP application

  Hey, Here is an interesting one, I have a SIP VoIP application which is able to register to the PBX server, and I can invite and see the user call on the callee end receiving an Invite, and on the caller end I see the Ringing response... now here is interesting part, if I close my application with out any notification to the server my router disconnects and restart, after a short while (30 - 150 sec). I could fix that if I would complete the ACK BYE process, but I'm just wondering why does my router hangs up? any ideas?
