I tried using the .clone() manipulator to make a copy of the image and then remove the class from the clone to get the sizing but it sets the variables to zeros. var pic = $('#image').clone(); pic.removeClass('image'); var h = pic.height(); var w = pic.width(); It works if I append the image to an element in the page, but these are larger images and I would prefer not to be loading them as hidden images if there is a better way to do this. Also removing the class, setting the variables, and then re-adding the class was producing sporadic results. I was hoping for something along the lines of: $('#image').removeClass('image', function() { h = $(this).height(); w = $(this).width(); }).addClass('image'); But the removeClass function doesn't work like that :P

  • Cakephp Auth Flash Messages losing style

    My Auth flash messages were working earlier -- a bright green background with text in it, such as "You have successfully logged out". However, I have made quite a few changes to the site since then, and this green background has disappeared. What are the possible causes of this?     What is the max time do you think is acceptable for a web script (PHP for example) to execute before it starts to become an annoyance for the user (on average)? I always thought that if the user has to wait more than 1 second for the page to load (this of course after images and css have been cached..this rule really only applies for subsequent requests) they would start to get annoyed.

    I have a .Net web application that for performance issues gets all the static data (CSS, Images, JS) from an external server that is on different location and different hosting company. I want to enable SSL on my site without the users getting a message: "Page contains both secure and insecure elements" Does this means I’ll have to get two SSL Certificates one for each server? If I want the users to continue getting the static content from the external server what other options do I have? Thanks.

  • gwtQuery's outerWidth(true) and IE8 not working without putting a delay

    I recently came across an odd behavior when trying to calculate the width (with margins) of an element using gwtQuery. The goal is to get the width (including padding, borders and margins) of a given element as a child of a certain parent. This parent may define specific CSS rules for some children so I clone it, add my element to this parent, call .outerWidth(true) to get the width and finally remove the clone from the parent. It works fine on Chrome, Firefox and IE 10, but randomly fails (outputs 0) on IE 8. However I noticed that if I put a "sleep" between the moment I add the element to the DOM and the moment I get the outer width, it always succeeds. I obviously don't want to keep that sleep. So my question is does anyone has any insights on how to work around this behavior or even a better way of achieving the same goal? Thank you!   • jQuery, Animate opacity to 1 then remove the opacity property to make it better looking on IE

    Hi everyone, I tried the jQuery fadeIn animation in all browsers and it work good, but not that much on IE. the Alpha png images are so creepy after appending the CSS opacity, but i have an idea and i don't know how to implement it using jQuery. The idea is to fadeIn the element and when the animation is finished it will automatically remove the opacity property in order to make the picture quality better. How to do that? Note: i'm using Animate and not FadeIn. Thanks

  • java web application best practices

    Hi all I'm trying to figure out the optimum way to develop and release a fairly simple web application, and I'm running into several problems. I'll outline the decisions I've made, because somewhere I've clearly gone off the rails.. Hugely grateful for any help! I have what I think is a fairly simple web application. It contains a couple of jsps that reference a couple of java beans, and the usual static html, js, css and images. Decision 1) I wanted to have a clear and clean release procedure, such that I could develop on my local machine and then release reliably to a production machine. I therefore made the decision to package the application into a war file (including all the static resources), to minimize the separate bits and pieces I would need to release. So far so good? Decision 2) I wanted things on my local machine to be as similar as possible to the production environment. So in my html, for example, I may have a reference to a static file such as http://static.foo.com/file . To keep this code working seamlessly on dev and prod, I decided to put static.foo.com in my /etc/hosts when developing locally, so that all the urls work correctly without changing anything. Decision 3) I decided to use eclipse and maven to give me a best practice environment for administering and building my project. So I have a nice tight set up now, except that: Every time I want to change anything in development, like one line in an html file, I have to rebuild the entire project and then wait for tomcat to load the war before I can see if it's what I wanted. So my questions are: 1) Is there a way to connect up eclipse and tomcat so that I don't have to rebuild the war each time? ie tomcat is looking straight at my actual workspace to serve up the static files? 2)I think I'm maybe making things harder by using /etc/hosts to reflect production urls - is there a better way that doesn't involve manually changing over urls (relative urls are fine of course, but where you have many subdomains, say one for static files and one for dynamic, you have to write out the full path, surely?) 3) Is this really best practice?? How do people set things up so that they balance the requirement for an automated, all-encompassing build process on the one hand, and the speed and flexibility to be able to develop javascript and html and css quickly, as quickly as if one just pointed apache at the directory and developed live?
