• Nhibernate Criteria Ignore Child Collection

  I have a simple one to many association in my model. The parent class has a collection of children. In the mapping files, the association is a one to many, eager-loaded, using fetchmode.join. This works fine, but how can I write a criteria query but NOT trigger the loading of the child collection? In other words, I want to query the parent and not have it generate the join in the resulting sql. I tried setting the fetch mode to lazy, but in that case Nhibernate generates two separate queries. I don't want the table for child queried at all.

• Is Transport security a bad practice for the WCF service over the Internet?

  Hello, I have a WCF service accessible over the Internet. It has wsHttpBinding binding and message security mode with username credentials to authenticate clients. The msdn says that we should use message security for the Internet scenarios, because it provides end-to-end security instead of point-to-point security as Transport security has. What if i use transport security for the wcf service over the Internet? Is it a bad practice? Could my data be seen by malicious users? Thanks, Sergey

• WPF DataTemplates with VS2010 designer support + reusable - would you do it that way?

  Ok, I am currently tidying up all my old stuff. I ran into the issue of "code only DataTemplates" - which are really a pain in the ass. You can't see anything, they are really hard to design, and I want to improve my project. So I had the idea to use the following solution. The main benefits are: You have designer support for your data template You can easily include example sample data The file naming is consistent and easy to remember The preview does not require an additional XAML wrapper (even with code only controls) I will try to explain and illustrate my solution using a few pictures. I am interested in feedback, especially if you can imagine a better way to do it. And, of course, if you see any maintenance or performance issues. Ok, lets start with a simple PreviewObject. I want to have some data in it, so I create a subclass which will automatically fill in some dummy data. Then I add a list to the control, and name this list. Afterwards I add a DataTemplate, this is the sole reason for the whole control (to be able to see and edit the DataTemplate in place): Now I use this control to get my DataTemplate, to use it in other places. To make this easier, I added some code in the code behind, see here: Now I want a control to show me a list of PreviewItems, so I created a "code-only" control which creates an instance of my service (or gets one using DI in real world) and fills its list box with it: To view the result of this work, I added this control inside the same named XAML, this is basically only to be able to see the final result: What I do not like in this solution: The need to create the last control in "code only". So I tried something different while writing this post. The following two screenshots illustrate the approach. I am creating an instance of the service inside the DataContext, and I am using bindings to supply the Itemssourc and the ItemTemplate. The reason for the strange "static property" is refactoring support. If I hardcode the path in the designer (e.g. using "Path = PreviewHistory") and I refactor the names (which happens quite often, early design phase) - I screw up my controls without realizing it. • Connect rails application to MsSQL 2005 from Windows

  Hi guys. I (sadly) have to deploy a rails application on Windows XP which has to connect to Microsoft SQL Server 2005. Surfing in the web there are a lot of hits for connect from Linux to MsSQL, but cannot find out how to do it from Windows. Basically I followed these steps: Install dbi gem Install activerecord-sql-server-adapter gem My database.yml now looks like this: development: adapter: sqlserver mode: odbc dsn: test_dj host: HOSTNAME\SQLEXPRESS database: test_dj username: guest password: guest But I'm unable to connect it. When I run rake db:migrate I get IM002 (0) [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified I'm not a Windows user, so cannot understand really well the meaning of dsn element or so. Does someone have an idea how to solve this? Thanks in advance

• Changing view size when orientation changes

  I want my UIView subclass to behave so that when it is fitted in portrait orientation is has a certain size and another size when fitted in landscape mode. Is it possible to have the view indicate to the view controller that's resizing it when the orientation changes that it has this "ideal size"? To clarify, I'm confident that this is not something that can be done with the autoresizing mask. I also thought that sizeThatFits: would be what I need but I didn't see it get called when the orientation changed. I'm also aware that I can get this done by overriding layoutSubviews of the superview (or maybe some other method of the view controller but I would like to have this behavior embedded in the view to facilitate reuse.

• Asp.net 4.0 site fails because no handler mapped with Classic appPool

  When I create a Asp.net app and flip the appPool to "ASP.NET v4.0 Classic" it fails with the following error: HTTP Error 404.17 - Not Found The requested content appears to be script and will not be served by the static file handler. After some searching it seems to be the handler not mapping correctly for the Classic mode but I can't find out where or how to fix that. I have the full .Net 4.0 install with VS2010 and the app works fine if I flip the appPool to Integrated. Also, it's a Windows 7 machine (I'm having the same problem on a Vista box). • vlc python bindings - how to receive keyboard input?

  I'm trying to use VLC's python bindings to create my own little video player. The demo implementation is quite simple and nice, but it requires all the keyboard commands to be typed into the console from which the script was run. Is there any way I can handle keyboard input also when the video player itself has focus? Specifically, I care about controlling the video while in fullscreen mode. Perhaps there's a way to keep the keyboard focus in the console (or maybe another window) while showing the video? I'm using Windows XP, if that has any relevance.

• Parts of statusbar disappearing with IE BHO

  I have a C# IE BHO in use for an internal company app that is adds a pane to the statusbar with SB_SETPARTS (it mitm's the SETPARTS call and inserts an element into the array) and then draws the controls by moving them from a hidden (in-process) form with SetParent() This technique works well but it causes other parts of the statusbar to appear briefly and then disappear. Affected parts seem to be all of the panes that don't have their own hWnd, eg the "Internet | Protected Mode" and icon, and some of those icons that appear in the six panes immediately to the left. Does anyone know what is causing this? I suspect that either certain messages aren't getting to the statusbar32 control to draw the stuff, or my WindowsForms10 additions are sending out extraneous messages. Everything appears fine for about a second, and then the other parts just disappear.

• Too many parameters in MVC2 Controllers or IIS problem?

  I'm using a controller to call a stored procedure that requires 12 parameters. This works perfectly in debug mode locally (working against a remote database), but not when I publish it to my IIS 7 server. It complains about parameter #7, claiming it's not supplied with the URL. The URL call looks like this; http://localhost:50160/GetPlaces?minLat=-90&maxLat=90&minLng=-180&maxLng=180&minDate=0&maxDate=60000000&a=1&b=1&c=1&e=1&f=1&h=1 Does anyone have any idea what may be the cause of this? Any help would be very appreciated here.

• Why does Perl complain about "Unsuccessful stat on filename containing newline"?

  Hello, I am getting an error I do not understand. I am using File:Find to recurse a fylesystem on Windows using Activestate Perl 5.8.8 and trying to stat $File::Find::name; so I am not stat-ing a filename got from a text file scanning requiring chomp-ing or newline removing. I was unable to get file modification time, the mtime in: my ($dev,$ino,$mode,$nlink,$uid,$gid,$rdev,$size,$atime,$mtime,$ctime,$blksize,$blocks) = stat($File::Find::name); so trying a -s $File::Find::name gives me the error: Unsuccessful stat on filename containing newline A typical file name found is F01-01-10 Num 0-00000.pdf but I get the same error even renaming in E02.pdf

  I am starting getting used to Eclipse, but I have much more experience with Visual Studio. In Visual Studio it is possible to run auto commands after the build has finished. Now I am creating a GWT project and several other projects at once in one solution (or workspace) in Eclipse. Some files which are compiled with the GWT project needs to be copied to another location when they have been compiled. I am currently doing this manually and would like to do it automatically. I am not doing it often, since the project works fine in debug mode (...?gwt.codesvr=localhost:9997). But where is the location for executing a post build command for a GWT project in eclipse? Is it possible?

• Best practices for developing simple ASP.NET sites (built in controls or JQuery + scripts)

  I was recently reviewing some code written by two different contractors, both were basic ASP.NET management sites. The sites allowed the user to view and edit data. Pretty much simple CRUD gateways. One group did their best to use built in ASP + AJAX Toolkit controls and did their best to use as many built in controls as possible. I found the code much easier to read and maintain. The other used jQuery and the code is heavily marked up with script blocks which are then used to build pages from javascript files. Which one is more common? The one that basically leveraged embedded HTML markup in scripts controled by javascript files screams readability and maintenance issues? Is this just the way of doing asp dev with jQuery? Assuming the second example happens a lot, are there tools that help facilitate jQuery development with visual studio? Do you think they generated the html somewhere else and just copied it in? • How to log into a salesforce.com sandbox?

  I took over a Rails app and am trying to get the Salesforce.com API credentials set up for my user account. I'm set as a system admin with "Developer Mode" on (though I have no clue what that does, I just saw it set on the previous account.) We have a sandbox. I click the login link on it, enter my sandbox username ([email protected]), enter my password, and get "Login attempt has failed". I know my password is okay since I've logged into the production site several times. Using different domains (test.salesforce.com, etc) doesn't help either.

• Capture Silverlight 4 event when panel clicked

  I have a small Silverlight 4 app that essentially consists of a grid containing a label and a combo box. When I click the label, I replace it with a second text box so that I can edit the label (much the way you can edit the name of a Silverlight control in VS2010). I have a LostFocus event handler on the text box that will end editing when the control loses focus (restoring the updated label). Trouble is, users tend to click on the panel when they are done editing rather than on another control (or hitting Enter, which is also supported). I tried adding a left mouse down event handler to the panel. However, that only fires when the text box does not have the focus (I guess the text box captured the mouse?) Is there an approach to recognize that a non-input control was clicked that would enable me to terminate edit mode?

• http sniffer not working in a LAN setting

  Hi , I wrote a http sniffer program , first ran it in my standalone pc < fedora OS , and it worked well. And when i tried this in a LAN setting < bus-LAN , fedora OS again , and set the eth0 to promisc mode , the program captures only the URLs browsed by the system in which it is running , but not the ones browsed in neighbouring systems.. Am i missing something here.. i've heard people talk about " setting up subnets " , " use routers / additional ethernet cards " etc , but i dont really understand / know how to do / or even if i should be doing anything of that sort.. please help ..

• Is it possible to add -pedantic to GCC command line, yet have it not warn about 'long long'

  I'm using mostly GCC to develop my library, but I'd like to ensure cross-compiler compatibility and especially standard conformance as much as possible. For this, I have add several -W... flags to command line. I'd also add -pedantic, but I have a problem with its warning about long long type. The latter is important for my library and is properly guarded with #if code, i.e. is not compiled on compilers that don't know it anyway. In short: can I have GCC in -pedantic mode warn about any extension except long long?

• CustomErrors section does not handle 404 properly on production server

  Hi, I'd like my ASP.NET MVC application to redirect failed requests to matching action methods of a certain controller. This works fine on my development machine running Windows 7, but not on my production machine running Windows 2008 R2. I set up my web.config as follows: <customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="/Error/ServerError/500"> <error statusCode="403" redirect="/Error/AccessDenied" /> <error statusCode="404" redirect="/Error/FileNotFound" /> </customErrors> This customErrors section works fine on both of my machines (production and development) for 500 Internal Server errors. It also works fine for 404 errors on my development machine. However, it does not properly redirect 404 errors on the production machine. Instead of /Error/FileNotFound, I get the standard 404 page that comes with IIS 7. What could be the problem here?

• Compile 32bit mercurial on x86_64

  I'm using the academic version of EPD (Enthought Python Distribution) which is 32bit. My computer is Linux x86_64. platform.architecture() returns ('32bit','ELF') I want to install Mercurial. The instructions in README didn't work at first, because make gave this error: "LONG_BIT definition appears wrong for platform (bad gcc/glibc config?)." I commented out that line in pyport.h and then it compiled fine. Now, after successful compilation I get this error when running it: ImportError: /scratch/epd/lib/python2.6/site-packages/mercurial/osutil.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64 It appears that I compiled a 64bit version of hg, and it won't run with my 32bit python. I don't see any arch flags in the mercurial makefile. How can I force it to compile in 32bit mode?

I run the project in Debug mode so a page opens in my browser where I can enter an input and invoke the method of the service. • Issue Passing NSMutableDictionary to Method

  Hello all, I'm trying some basic iPhone programming -- all has been going well but recently I've hit a bit of a roadblock. I've got a chunk of code that's passing an NSMutableDictionary (amongst other things) to a method in another class: [self.shuttle makeAPICallAndReturnResultsUsingMode:@"login" module:@"login" query:credentials]; The NSMutableArray credentials is previously defined a bit above as such: NSMutableDictionary *credentials = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; [credentials setObject:username forKey:@"username"]; [credentials setObject:password forKey:@"password"]; The method that receives it looks like such: -(id)makeAPICallAndReturnResultsUsingMode:(NSString *)mode module:(NSString *)module query:(NSMutableDictionary *)query From debugging I have determined that the code works fine up until this point within the above method: [query setObject:self.sessionID forKey:@"session_id"]; At this point, the application terminates -- the Console informs me of this exception: * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '* -[NSCFDictionary setObject:forKey:]: method sent to an uninitialized mutable dictionary object' This leads me to believe that I must initialize NSMutableDictionary in some way in my new method before I can access it, but I have no idea how. Any advice?
