• innerHTML of dynamically added element not updating in Chrome

  I'm modifying a dynamically created input element by setting the innerHTML, when I view the element in the DOM Inspector I can see that the values I passed are in the input. However, I can't see it on the page? Is there a refresh() function that I should be calling after setting the value? I have tried innerText, and value and gotten the same results. Here is how I am setting it: $("input[name='group']")[0].innerHTML = groups; (as far as the JS set and the JQuery selector I have found chrome plugins to be fickle this way)

• What to beware of reading old Numarray tutorials and examples?

  Python currently uses Numpy for heavy duty math and image processing. The earlier Numeric and Numarray are obsolete, but still today there are many tutorials, notes, sample code and other documentation using them. Some of these cover special topics of interest, some are well written but haven't been updated or replaced, or are otherwise of use. Quite a bit is the same between Numeric, Numarray and Numpy, so I usually get good mileage out these older docs. Ocassionaly, though, I run into a line of code that results in error. Not often enough to remember how to get around it, but usually I figure it out at the cost of some time. What are the main things to watch out for when relying on such older documentation for current Numpy use? Is there a list of how to translate the differences that exist?

• Xcodebuild failing to pick up environment values from project file?

  I'm using Xcode 3.2.6, MacOSX. I have a globally visible environment setting: ICU_SRC=~/Documents/icu/source This really is an environment setting, it's set at login time. When I open up Terminal, it's there. In my project, under Header Search Paths I've added this: $(ICU_SRC)/i18n $(ICU_SRC)/common These expand correctly when I compile inside the IDE. When I look at the build results, I see this: -I/Users/eric.grunin/Documents/icu/source/i18n -I/Users/eric.grunin/Documents/icu/source/common When I build from the command line, however, it fails. What I see is this: -I/i18n -I/common Here's the command I'm using to compile: /usr/bin/env -i xcodebuild -project my_project.xcodeproj -target "my_program" -configuration Release -sdk macosx10.6 build What am I doing wrong?   How do i vertically and horizontally center an image when i do not know the size of it? I asked this question and someone suggested using a table. This isnt the first time i heard a table can do it but i tried without luck. Searching SO only got me results when i do know the size of the image. How do i do this with a table? NOTE: Javascript/jquery is not preferred but if theres a solution with it i'll be open to it.

• Problem getting value from "Checkbox group value prompt"

  Hi, I've value prompt with ui:checkbox group parameter: p_IsLastMonth Name: Prompt_IsLastMonth ItemCount: 1; UseValue:Yes, DisplayValue: LastMonth? and two Date Prompts. Whenever the checkbox is checked, the UseValue 'Yes' is passed to the parameter 'p_IsLastMonth'. But whenever the checkbox is left as it is, it results in an error. Element 'selectOptions' is not valid for content model: 'All(style,defaultSelections,conditionalStyles,conditionalRender,XMLAttributes)' I also tried giving a default value. But the default value has to be in the collection. But i want only one checkbox to be displayed. I tried with html checkbox. But i'm not able to send the value 'either yes or no' to the parameter through javascript because however the finish button overrides the value. Any help?

• Measuring the performance of classification algorithm

  I've got a classification problem in my hand, which I'd like to address with a machine learning algorithm ( Bayes, or Markovian probably, the question is independent on the classifier to be used). Given a number of training instances, I'm looking for a way to measure the performance of an implemented classificator, with taking data overfitting problem into account. That is: given N[1..100] training samples, if I run the training algorithm on every one of the samples, and use this very same samples to measure fitness, it might stuck into a data overfitting problem -the classifier will know the exact answers for the training instances, without having much predictive power, rendering the fitness results useless. An obvious solution would be seperating the hand-tagged samples into training, and test samples; and I'd like to learn about methods selecting the statistically significant samples for training. White papers, book pointers, and PDFs much appreciated!

  I'm guessing that there's a word for this concept, and that it's available in at least some popular languages, but my perfunctory search was fruitless. A pseudocode example of what I'd like to do: function foo(a, b) { return a * b // EG } a = [ 1, 2, 3 ] b = [ 4, 5, 6 ] matrix = the_function_for_which_I_search(foo, [a, b] ) print matrix => [ [ 4, 8, 12], [5, 10, 15], [6, 12, 18] ] // or function concatenate(a,b) return a.b } print the_function_for_which_I_search( concatenate, [ a, b ]) => [ [ '14', '24', '34'], ['15', '25', '35'], [16', '26', '36'] ] In other words, function_for_which_I_search will apply the function given as its first argument to each combination of the elements of the two arrays passed as its second argument, and return the results as a two-dimensional array. I would like to know if such a routine has a common name, and if it's available in a python module, cpan package, ruby gem, pear package, etc. I'm also wondering if this is a core function in other languages, maybe haskell or R?

• Switching layouts page jumping (improvement to script)

  Hello, I'm using this script to switch layouts in a page: $("span.switcher").click(function () { $("span.switcher").toggleClass("swap"); /*!*/ $("ol.search-results").fadeOut("fast", function() { $(this).fadeIn("fast").toggleClass("grid"); }); The script works fine, the problem I have is that if the switch view is down the page, the layout changes and then the page jumps back up. If I add 'return false' right where you see the /* ! */ in the second line the script doesn't work. Also, as you can see, I'm using < span instead of < a since I was told that using other element other than < a would stop the page from jumping. Any idea how to fix the jumping of the page? Thanks.

• Getting value of "System.Windows.Controls.TextBlock" when binding to Silverlight ComboBox

  I'm attempting to use a Silverlight ComboBox with a static list of elements in a very simple binding scenario. The problem is the selected item is not returning me the Text of the TextBlock within the ComboBox and is instead returning "System.Windows.Controls.TextBlock". My XAML is: <ComboBox SelectedValue="{Binding Country, Mode=TwoWay, NotifyOnValidationError=True, ValidatesOnExceptions=True}"> <TextBlock FontSize="11" Text="Afghanistan" /> <TextBlock FontSize="11" Text="Albania" /> <TextBlock FontSize="11" Text="Algeria" /> </ComboBox> In my C# file I'm binding to the ComboBox using: Customer customer = new Customer() { Country = "Albania" }; DataContext = customer; The binding does not result in Albania as the selected country and updating the ComboBox choice results in the Country being set to "System.Windows.Controls.TextBlock". I've tried fiddling around with DisplayMemberPath and SelectedValuePath but haven't found the answer. I suspect it's something really simple I'm missing.

• Getting user data from Active Directory using PL/SQL

  I had a discussion today regarding an Oracle procedure I wrote some time ago. I wanted to get 7500 user email addresses from Active Directory using PL/SQL. AD will return a maximum of 1000 rows and the LDAP provider used by Oracle will not support paging. Therefore, my solution was to filter on the last two characters of the sAMAccountName (*00,*01,*02...etc.). This results in 126 queries (100 for account names ending in digits, 26 for those ending in a letter...this was sufficient for my AD setup). The person I was speaking to (it was a job interview by the way) said he could have done it a better way, but he would not tell me what that method was. Could anybody hazard a guess at what this method was?

  Hi there, I want to read a file as fast as possible (40k lines) [Edit : the rest is obsolete]. Edit: Andres Jaan Tack suggested a solution based on one thread per file, and I want to be sure I got this (thus this is the fastest way) : One thread per entry file reads it whole and stocks its content in a container associated (- as many containers as there are entry files) One thread calculates the linear combination of every cell read by the input threads, and stocks the results in the exit container (associated to the output file). One thread writes by block (every 4kB of data, so about 10 lines) the content of the output container.   I dream of creating a control which works something like this: <asp:SqlDataSource id="dsFoo" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:conn %>" SelectCommandType="StoredProcedure" SelectCommand="cmd_foo"> </asp:SqlDataSource> <Custom:DataViewSource id="dvFoo" runat="server" rowfilter="colid &gt; 10" datasourceid="dsFoo"> </Custom:DataViewSource> I can accomplish the same thing in the code behind by executing cmd_foo, loading the results into a DataTable, then loading them into a DataView with a RowFilter. The goal would be to have multiple DataViews for one DataSource with whatever special filters I wish to apply to the select portion of the DataSource. I could imagine extending this to be more powerful. I tried peaking at this and this but am a bit confused on a few points. Currently, my main issue is being unsure where to grab the output data of the DataSource so I can stick it into a DataTable.

  I'm trying to implement a simple api request to the SEOmoz linkscape api. It works if I only use the php file but I want to do an ajax request using jquery to make it faster and more user friendly. I know the php code works as it returns a valid json object and displays correctly when I do it that way. I just can't get the ajax to show anything at all!!

  This is what I'm doing right now (name is UNIQUE): SELECT * FROM fruits WHERE name='apple'; Check if the query returned any result. If yes, don't do anything. If no, a new value has to be inserted: INSERT INTO fruits (name) VALUES ('apple'); Instead of the above is it ok to insert the value into the table without checking if it already exists? If the name already exists in the table, an error will be thrown and if it doesn't, a new record will be inserted. Right now I am having to insert 500 records in a for loop, which results in 1000 queries. Will it be ok to skip the "already-exists" check?

Out-of-the-box or after various customizations, in your opinion which language is best-suited to be both easily readable and easy to extend functionality in? Some definitions to pre-empt biases and flamewars: Legibility: amount of thinking done to understand the code proportional to the amount of code: (amount_think-energy / amount_code) is fairly constant and as low as possible in the optimal case. Extensibility: Addition of X amount of functionality requires a change in code or code additions in proportion to X (amount_added_functionality / amount_added_code) is fairly constant and as high as possible in the optimal case. • Error whenever a java applet is loaded

  Hi. For the past few months or so, I've been getting an error whenever I attempt to use a java applet. I'm getting this error on every browser I use, and I get the error occasionally in linux, too. The java applet loads for roughly 5 seconds or so, then it stops and I get two error messages, stating that an exception occurred (java.io.EOFException). This seems to happen regardless of what website I'm using. Going to the website shows I'm running java 6 update 20, and I get no error. Googling the error turns up nothing useful - I'm not a java developer, so most of the results don't apply to me at all. My question is this. What's causing this error, and what can I do to fix whatever issue is causing it?

  Hey, I need to select 10 products and display them. Each product has 3 different prices. The select to get the prices looks like this: SELECT * FROM products_loans WHERE CODE IN('10X15/12', '10X15/Q10-10', '10X15/Q20-10') AND 550 BETWEEN PRICE_FROM AND PRICE_TO; Where 550 is the base price. Now this select returns 3 rows, but I want to modify it so it will return 30 results. I dont like the idea to execute 10 queries at once. I know I can easily achieve that with "OR", but I would like to ask if there is some other more elegant way to this. The select "should" look like this: SELECT * FROM products_loans WHERE KOD IN('10X15/12', '10X15/Q10-10', '10X15/Q20-10') AND (550, 325, 780) BETWEEN CENA_OD AND CENA_DO; Note that there is no "price" column or anything in the table which I could use to do a JOIN and I cant modify the table.
