• Evolution and thunderbird sharing same mail data?

  Hi, I have been using Evolution for a quite long and it has downloaded around 1.6GBs of mails from gmail. I want to try thunderbird but I dont want to re download everything again. Is that possible to have both clients sharing same data? I'll make sure I don't use both at the same time if that matters. I'll move to thunderbird fully if I'm happy with it. Problems I face with evolution is that I have to have the GUI running always if I want to get instant alerts and send mail immediately. Also it loads the messages slow and even after I move to the next mail, it slowly downloads all the linked images before moving on.

• Chrome dispay Glich when GPU acc. on

  Hy Everyone! I have some graphics glich when enable gpu acc. in chrome. If i disable acceleraion it fix the glich but, in full HD most of flash videos frame rate drop above frogs a**, so very slow... :) Any idea, what can i do? I Upload 2 pics from glich. My hardware: CM Hyper TX 3 on AMD A5300 with HD 7480D 6 GB RAM I use official AMD driver from amd.com, Ubuntu 14.04(I upgraded from 12.04, in Ubuntu 12, same glitch with old drivers.) I reinstalld x.org completly and purge all config files, but this didnt resolve the problem. • Banshee keeps copying the same music files to my portable player over and over

  I have Banshee 2.6.0, and I connect my Android phone by USB to sync my music collection of about 1500 songs. For the most part, it works reliably. However, on every sync, it deletes, and then recopies the same 62 songs each time. After that, everything works, and the sync completes successfully. As far as I can tell, these 62 songs are mostly recent additions to my collection, but not all of them, and I can't see any other commonality of significance. This is only a problem because the transfer speed when working within Banshee is quite slow, so this is eating up time. Sometimes I need to make a transfer and go, but I can't, because I'll have to wait for progress bars take their sweet time. I have tried to completely clear out the music files on the phone and resync. I have tried rescanning the music collection. What do I do to fix this irritation?

However, because my user can update their information (including their name), I wanted the name displayed in the header to be updated accordingly, and not displaying the session value.

• New windows from the dock in Gnome Shell

  I am using Gnome Shell on Ubuntu 11.10, and I frequently use workspaces, as the shell encourages to do. My only complaint is that it is slow to place different windows of the same program in different workspaces. What I would like to do: click on an empty workspace, click on the Nautilus icon in the dock and browse to the correct folder. Then click on another empty workspace, click on the Nautilus icon and so on. This does not work: the second time I open Nautilus, the dock lets me switch to the previous instance, which is almost never what I want. So I have to click on the Nautilus icon, open a new window, place it on a different desktop, switch to that folder and finally browse to the correct folder. Is there a way to simplify this flow? It would be even better if I was able to link a specific folder from the dock, or better yet to have something similar to a Unity lens, where I can choose between the most used folders.

I was more than surprised when I noticed how Dwarf Fortress actually generates a history for the world! Now, how do these algorithms work? What do they usually take as input, except the length of the simulation? How specific can they be? And more importantly; can they be made in Javascript, or is Javascript too slow? (I guess this depends on the depth of the simulation, but take Dwarf Fortress as an example.)

  We have a scammer that is buying our e-Books and then performing chargebacks. Our e-Books don't have DRM, so if they wanted to resell them, they would only need to buy each book once. But instead, they keep buying the same books over and over again and then performing hundreds of chargebacks. We have created some additional rules in our fraud protection tools to block certain aspects, even though all the info looks legit, and are hopeful this will slow them down. But my question is: What is the scam? If they aren't getting any product and they only get chargebacks for something they already purchased, then they can't get additional money from the credit card company, so then what's their motivation?

• How do I get my RTL8192ce based wireless device working properly?

  I am using the rtl8192cu chipset (on a Belkin wireless USB adapter N300) combined with 64 bit architecture and the 3.8 kernel. Some of you may know that this doesn't work. I tried this fix - RTL8188CU USB Network Adaptor on ubuntu 13.04 and now my internet is super slow. I am totally new to Ubuntu and I am concerned I do not have the right driver. The "stock" driver was the RTL8192cu, but it didn't connect 99% of the time and if it did the upload speed was higher than the download. Right now I am connecting through my laptop with a crossover cable, so my internet connection is just fine in my apartment. • Equation / formula to determine an objects position on an ellipitcal path

  I'm making a space game, as such I need objects to follow an elliptical path (orbit). I've worked out how to calculate all the important aspects of my orbits, the only remaining thing is how to have an object follow it. My Orbit class contains the major, minor (and by extension semi-major,semi-minor) lengths. The focii radius, area and circumference even. What is the equation to determine an objects x/y position (only need 2D) on an ellipse with a certain speed after a period of time. Basically, every frame I want to update the position based on the amount of elapsed time. I would like to have the speed along the path speed up and slow down according to the distance from the object it's orbiting, but not sure how to factor this in to the above given that at any point in time the speed has changed from it's previous speed. • How much code do you write everyday, *at work*?

  I'm graduating college, about to start a junior software engineering position, and I've been wondering how much I'm going to be expected to do on what kind of timeline. I mean, in python I can write maybe 500 lines in 8 hours. In C, maybe 200 lines in 8 hours. And that's a big maybe. (I'm f#$*ing terrible with C.) Other languages are somewhere in between. I don't even know if that's ridiculously slow or normal or even good, hence the question. How much code do you write a day? It would be helpful to specify what language/technology you're using, and to make note if there are big differences between them like with myself.

  I was just at a lecture, where I noticed the lecturer using a command (probably aliased) to jump to a specific folder. Example: ~/code$ j sciproj ~/projects/sciproj2011/$ This looked quite slick, so I started wondering: Is this a standard utility, and if so, what is the name? I have two theories as to how it works: It can both create, delete and jump to aliases directly from the command-line in the style of the example, without having to set up aliases in a configuration file or script or whatnot manually. It searches the home directory for a folder matching the name and jumps to it. The second option seems a bit slow, however, so the first would be preferred.

  have been thinking about getting a treadmill desk for awhile now but I just don't know if it is possible to code at one. I can see doing a normal computer job while walking very slow but I just don't know if you can write code do it. Like a lot of people I could stand to lose weight and I am just not in shape anymore. I sit at my computer for at least 12 hours a day and then I am on my laptop for a few more hours. I need to do something to help my health. I also have been seeing a lot of reports about the long term health issues related to desk jobs. Like this.   When a SQL batch returns more than one message from e.g. print statements, then I can only retrieve the first one using the ADO connection's Errors collection. How do I get the rest of the messages? • Abnormally disconnected TCP sockets and write timeout

  Hello I will try to explain the problem in shortest possible words. I am using c++ builder 2010. I am using TIdTCPServer and sending voice packets to a list of connected clients. Everything works ok untill any client is disconnected abnormally, For example power failure etc. I can reproduce similar disconnect by cutting the ethernet connection of a connected client. So now we have a disconnected socket but as you know it is not yet detected at server side so server will continue to try to send data to that client too. But when server try to write data to that disconnected client ...... Write() or WriteLn() HANGS there in trying to write, It is like it is wating for somekind of Write timeout. This hangs the hole packet distribution process as a result creating a lag in data transmission to all other clients. After few seconds "Socket Connection Closed" Exception is raised and data flow continues. But as you can imagine, still this mechnism cant sync exactly with this braodcasting loop because this braodcasting loop is running almost all the time. So is there any Write timeouts i can specify may be through iohandler or something ? I have seen many many threads about "Detecting disconnected tcp socket" but my problem is little different, i need to avoid that hangup for few seconds during the write attempt. So is there any solution ? Or should i consider using some different mechanism for such data broadcasting for example the broadcasting loop put the data packet in some kind of FIFO buffer and client threads continuously check for available data and pick and deliver it to themselves ? This way if one thread hangs it will not stop/delay the over all distribution thread. Any ideas please ? Thanks for your time and help. Regards Jams

  Have built a small VB.Net app in VS2010. The connection string to the SQL Server is as follows: <connectionStrings> <add name="IWSR_DataDownloadWizard.My.MySettings.sqlConnection" connectionString="Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Data Source=SQLServer;Integrated Security=SSPI;Initial Catalog=IWSROL" providerName="System.Data.OleDb" /> </connectionStrings> Within the VS2010 environment AND on my machine, the connection works perfectly, however when I deploy to clients I get an error message of: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. I've tried to search the net for solutions, have seen a few instances of people saying to NOT use the Server Name but the IP Address instead (this doesn't work) and some saying to remove the "Provider=SQLOLEDB.1", again this doesn't work. Can anyone suggest a solution please? Further information: Development System is Windows7 using VS2010 Deployment systems are a combination of Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Windows 7 SQL Server is SQL2000 (soon to be SQL2005). TIA
