• Time Capsule + Ubee Router?

  I can't for the life of me figure this out. I recently had TWC installed in my house, and wanted to disable the NAT and router functions of it. I have a Time Capsule hooked up to it from LAN1 (on the Ubee) to the WAN port on the TC. The problems started occurring here. I figured the settings would be these: Ubee Configuration mode: Bridge DHCP: Off TC IPv4: 192.168.100.2 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Router Address: 192.168.100.1 DNS Servers: 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4 Router Mode: DHCP and NAT But using those settings, my TC says "Double NAT", so I have to change it all around to the default settings of the Ubee using NAT. This leads me to believe bridge mode doesn't actually turn off NAT...

• Import PST into Gmail

  I'm in the process of moving my email to Gmail. I used to use Outlook and I have a massive amount of email stored in various PST files (about 7GB worth). Ultimately I'd like to store this all in Gmail so I have my entire email archive available. I imported my first PST file using Outlook's IMAP feature - dragging the folders in one by one. This worked, but was quite slow and laborious (since I had to check on it every few minutes and set the next folder going). Is there any way I can do the import - either without using Outlook, or by somehow just setting it to go and leaving it overnight without any intervention? I did look at using Google Sync for Outlook, but it looks like this will also pull down all of the email I've already uploaded, which ideally I'd like to avoid (although if this is the only option I'll do that!)

• Is there a way to undo deletion of registry keys while the machine is still running?

  [ also posted from a programmer's POV at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3299230 ] I messed up big time and deleted a large portion of my registry during a programming experiment: As a result most of the contents of HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ are gone. I haven't logged off or shutdown since this happened. The applications that were already running seem to be coping fine so far but I suspect that after the next reboot there won't be much happiness left... Also, System Restore tells me there are no restore points even though I'm pretty sure there should have been. Could this be another symptom of the purged registry? I wouldn't have expected this information to be stored under HKCU, though... Does anybody know of a technique or utility that can possibly restore some or all of the deleted entries? I'm on Windows 7 Enterprise 32bit. I'm not really holding my breath but you can always hope, can't you?

• Ubuntu 13.10 has no Suspend or Hibernate Options

  I have a Lenova Yoga 2 Pro, and I have Ubuntu 13.10 installed. I am having some issues setting the power functions. At the moment I can not suspend or hibernate the laptop. So from Gnome 3.10 I have the option to Log Out, Shutdown & Restart. No option for Suspend / Hibernate. Weirdly however I can use these commands to get the right behaviour sudo pm-suspend sudo pm-hibernate So the laptop knows how to do this, it just is not giving me the option and also when I set "Close screen lid" to suspend, well nothing happens. It feels like there is a "connection" not being made.

  consider a disk with a sector size of 512 bytes, 2000 tracks/surface, 50 sectors/track, 5 doubled sided platters, average seek time is 10 msec. Assume a block size of 1024-byte is selected. Assume a file that contains 100,000 records of 100-byte each is to be stored on the disk, and NONE of the reocd can be spanned 2 blocks. How many blocks are needed to store the entire file?? If the file is arranged sequentially on disk, how many surfaces are required?? Now, i have calculated that 10,000 blocks are needed to store 100,000 records. But i am not sure how to find out the answer of the surfaces required. I only calculated the capacity of track is 25KB and capacity of surface is 50,000 KB But I don't know how to calculate the number of surfaces... Could anyone help me how to get the answer? • Trouble loading an ISO

  I've created a boot disk and ISO image with paragon. I boot up the Virtual pc with the disk in and I get to my recovery page. When I am supposed to select an ISO image? My Virtual PC doesn't acknowledge any of my physical hard drives on my host PC. I've also tried copy/paste the files into my datastore and they do not show up. I've tried the option during the set up to start with the ISO but again I am not able to browse to my external hard drive that I have stored the ISO on. VMWare will acknowledge it and say that it is connected but I can't browse to it. Am I doing something wrong? I created the back up disk and ISO image on the external with paragon.

• mysql does not start properly

  Hi I am using XAMPP on Windows XP. Since I changed the version from 1.73 to 1.77 MySQL does not start properly. That means that the status says, it is started, but the safety check says it is not . Because of that I cannot set any password, which is unacceptable. Any idea? • Unable to read USB External HD after aborted back up

  I have two PC laptops. On one of the two PC's (Win 7) I Aborted a back up and ejected the drive. Now that same pc wants to format the drive. I plugged the drive into the other pc (Win XP) and that one reads the drive and all data stored. Why does one want to format the drive and the other does not? .... My apologies for not being clearer with my original question and thanks for the responses, so; The drive is not a flash stick, its an external WD Hard drive plugged in via the USB. The two tips provided did not resolve the issue. Strangely, the pc with win XP can read the drive but the pc that the HD was plugged into when the backup was aborted still wants to format the drive. • Filemaker show total from related table

  I have a bit of experience with Access and SQL but I'm new to Filemaker. I have a layout which shows a list of projects. One of the fields I want it to show is "total amount of paid invoices up to the end of the last financial year". The invoices are stored on another table so I will need to pick from this table all records where "project id" = "project id" (this is set up as a relationship between the tables) and also "invoice is paid" = yes AND "date invoice paid" < start of last financial year. My question is how do I go about getting and showing that data? I can get a total easily enough, it's filtering out these specific rows that I'm having trouble with. I'm guessing there's an easy solution...

• (Possibly) Corrupted DDCrypt self-decrypting file

  I recently discovered some files I had encrypted and archived on a CD using DDCrypt 2.0, which is a small encryption utility from back in the day. One of its functions is to create self-decrypting files, which are essentially EXE files that you can enter a password and then have the file extracted onto your filesystem. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get them to do this properly. They appear to be decrypting and then at the last moment I get the error: Error opening encrypted file C:\users\username\Temp\dde3cfa.tmp Reason: Success and then another dialog immediately says Error extracting ddc file. I'm not really sure what this means (certainly not success), but I've checked out the temporary file and it appears to be garbage data (although of the right file size). I don't know if anyone has an idea what might be done here to extract the files, or has dealt with a similar situation before. Any ideas are appreciated! Thank you in advance for your time and any help you can provide.

• Duplicate of IPSEC certificate template not displaying

  I am working on getting IPSEC working on computers outside my domain. I am unable to get a duplicate of the IPSec Offline Request template to show on the web interface. My CA is 2008 R2 Enterprise and the permissions on the template should be adequate to allow me access (my account has read and enroll). If I publish the original template it functions as desired. I also have other custom templates in use (although using autoenrollment). The duplicate is almost identical to the original, excepting that it has a longer validity period and the private key is marked as exportable. How do I debug at this point?

• Windows 8.1 keeps prompting for Network Share Credentials after every log on or restart

  I have a Network drive Shared in a Workgroup with 3 clients. Two clients with Windows 7 have persistent connections to the Share. No issues with those two. My windows 8.1 client keeps prompting for credentials at every restart / log on. I spent hours looking around for a solution: I have stored cred in cred manager, and tried every possible combination (WORKGROUP\user , COMPUTERNAME\user, user, .. and so on). I have changed NT and NTLM negotiation in policy manager. I've compared the settings under GPO network security with a working win 7 computer, everything is pretty much the same. -I've captured Wireshark to see SMB negotiation process, honestly I see the messages flowing around, and the share sending AUTH DENIED.. which means is how the 8.1 client formats the request.... that makes the share reject it.. Now I still don't really know why. Any ideas would be appreciated.

• Windows 8 power-shell "update-help" is failing. Does anyone know how to fix it?

  Windows 8 includes PowerShell out of the box, but not the help. To get the help you run PowerShell as administrator and type "update-help".   I want to edit the screen which is displayed when windows 8 (starts) loads (/loading). As for now it has the Toshiba logo, I want my custom logo or the windows default logo. I have found that UEFI has something called "Boot Graphics Resource Table" and that it overides the default logo if there is a image present (source) How can I edit the logo stored in UEFI firmware or Boot Graphics Resource Table? if it's in the "bootres.dll", which does UEFI use? My disk (spread across a few system/usefi/windows/etc partitions) has around twenty bootres.dlls. The bootres.dll is signed by Microsoft, but I don't have to worry because I can sign the file I edit myself with my own certificate.

Membase also does not have secondary index (as far as I know). MongoDB and MySQL memory engine have table-level locks. What engine will fit our use case?

• I lost /dev/md2 on my server

  Hi, My 2 hard drives fried at the same moment apparently. My host company rebooted my server in rescue mode and I am trying to recover my data. They told me to mount /dev/sda2 to recover the data I need but, looking at a similar server that I have in pool, the data I'm looking for should be instead in /dev/md2. I can find /dev/md0 but not /dev/md2 (nor /dev/md1). I've looked on several places on the web and I could only find messages explaining how to create new partition. I just need to recover some data, not all of it and I'll be glad if anyone could help me to mount the /dev/md2 folder (or any other trick that would allow me to recover the data that was stored there). • VBA: Parse preceding numbers from string

  I need to parse into two substrings a string that always starts with numeric text followed by alphnumeric text. The strings can vary a bit, but not too much. Below are examples of incoming format and the strings I need: "00 10 50 Information to Bidders" ==> "00 10 50", "Information to Bidders" "001050 Information to Bidders" ==> "001050", "Information to Bidders" "00 10 50 - Information to Bidders" ==> "00 10 50", "Information to Bidders" "001050 -- Information to Bidders" ==> "001050", "Information to Bidders" I was hoping it would only be a half dozen lines of VBA, but my code is turning into a loop where I'm testing every character in the string to see where the changeover from numeric-only to non-numeric, then parsing the string based on the changeover location. Not a big deal, but messier than I was hoping for. Are there VBA functions that would eliminate the need to iterate through each string character?

  From my understanding you can write your crons by editing crontab -e I've found several sources that instead refer to a bash script in the cron job, rather than writing a job line for line. Is the only benefit that you can consolidate many tasks into one cron job using a bash script? Additional question for a newbie: Editing crontab -e refers to one file correct? I've noticed that if I open crontab -e and close without editing, when I open the file again there is a different numerical extension such as: "/tmp/crontab.XXXXk1DEaM" 0L, 0C I though the crontab is stored in /var/spool/cron or /etc/crontab ?? Why would it store the cron in the tmp folder?

• Perfmon quick rundown

  I've known quite along while about performance monitor on Windows. I have decided now to create a scheduled performance monitoring of my entire system so I can find bottlenecks for future improvements. So as you can imagine this is going to run 24/7 so I can identify peak utilization. With performance monitor on Windows 7 for example where are the logs stored (c:\perfmon)? Is there a log size? Even better is the a website that can get me up to speed with scheduling and best practices of perfmon? (I don't need an explanation of what I can monitor)

• How to set up an extended desktop on dual monitors in Kubuntu 9.04?

  I'm using my laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad T60) and I have a secondary monitor (which has a different resolution than my laptop screen) connected by VGA. Kubuntu recognizes the monitor and it functions but my desktop is mirrored (i.e. an identical copy) across the dual monitors (which is useless to me). How can I extend my desktop across both monitors? P.S. I googled it but the solutions I found weren't standard, they were hardware specific and you had to manually change system files, etc.. There must be an easier way. edit: Here is a snapshot of the settings.

• CPU Configuration Issue for 2 Servers (Server 2008 R2)

  I have 2 servers running the exact same Classic ASP code with Access DBs (yes, not ideal, but it is what it is, for now). 1) Xeon 5520 @ 2.27 GHz (6 GB Memory) 2) Xeon E5-2620 @ 2.00 GHz (2 processors, 32 GB Memory) For most pages the newer E5-2620 processes the pages between 10-15% faster. On pages requiring heavy and/or multiple complicated access stored procedures (queries) the older 5520 does a much better job. I believe the servers are configured nearly identically. My question: is it possible that the newer, multi-processor server is not as good at handling Classic ASP as the older single processor? Is there a configuration difference that needs to be in place that I'm missing since I'm shooting for identical implementations?

  I'm struggling with some iptables rules. I'm a newbie in iptables. I found some resources where I get the following command related to iptables. This is stored in a file that will be executed. [0:0] -A PREROUTING -s 10.1.0.0/24 -p tcp -m tcp --dport 81 -j DNAT --to-destination 10.1.0.6:3128 Can anybody explain me what does [0:0] mean? • Our company has 100,000s+ photos, how to store and browse/find these efficiently?

  We currently store our photos in a structure like this: folder\1\10000 - 19999.JPG|ORF|TIF (10 000 files) folder\2\20000 - 29999.JPG|ORF|TIF (10 000 files) etc... They are stored on 4 different 2TB D-link NASes attached and shared on our office network (\\nas1, \\nas2, and so on...) Problems: 1) When a client (Windows only, Vista and 7) wishes to browse the let's say \\nas1\folder\1\ folder, performance is quite poor. A problem. List takes a long time to generate in explorer window. Even with icons turned off. 2) Initial access to the NAS itself is sometimes slow. Problem. SAN disks too expensive for us. Even with iSCSI interface/switch technology. I've read a lot of tech pages saying that storing 100 000+ files in one single folder shouldn't be a problem. But we don't dare go there now that we experience problems on a 10K level. All input greatly appreciated, /T

  Suppose I have an EXCEL sheet with below data CODE (COL A) | VALUE (COL B) ============================== A01 | 10 A01 | 20 A01 | 30 A01 | 10 B01 | 30 B01 | 30 Is there an EXCEL function working like .. SELECT CODE, count (Distinct *) FROM TABLE GROUP BY CODE CODE | Distinct Count of Value =================================== A01 | 3 B01 | 1 or, better yet, Can we have an excel formula pasted in Column C to get something like this: CODE (COL A) | VALUE (COL B) | DISTINCT VALUE COUNT WITH MATCHING CODE (COL C) =============================================================================== A01 | 10 | 3 A01 | 20 | 3 A01 | 30 | 3 A01 | 10 | 3 B01 | 30 | 1 B01 | 30 | 1 I know I can use pivot table to get this result easily. However due to reporting requirements I have to append the "distinct count" column to the excel sheet, hence pivot table is not an option. My last resort is to use Excel Macro (Which is fine), but before that I would like to learn whether excel functions can accomplish this kind of task. Many thanks!
