• How much visitors could handle my server ?

  I have a website, and I want to host it on my own computer, but I'm wondering if it's good enough. The website check`s if the user is logged in and then displays 15 items (title, description) from a mysql database and the rating (stored in another database) and the comments (another database) for each item. It also displays some stats (number of items, comments). I also have an image for each item. My specs are: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5600+ 2.90 GHz RAM memory: 4.00GB Windows 7 64bit So what do you think, how much visitors and items could it handle (at once or daily) ? My internet connection is good, around 7-10 mb upload and same download speed

• Which particular file caused "Delayed write failed" error?

  I sometimes get this error when resuming from hibernation: Delayed Write Failed: Windows was unable to save all the data for the file G:\$Mft. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere. I know this is caused because the hard drive (G:, an external USB drive) was (a) plugged in when I hibernated and wasn't ready at wake-up, or (b) I simply forgot to plug it when resuming from hibernation. My question is: is there any way to see which particular file/folder/etc failed to be written? The hard drive functions correctly before and after, so there seems to be no permanent damage. Is there a detailed log someplace or a utility? I've searched but found nothing. Thanks for any help!

• Getting the keyboard working on a MacBook under Windows XP x64

  Despite Windows XP Professional x64's unsupported status on MacBooks (model A1181), I've managed to get most of the hardware working by manually installing either the drivers on the OS X Snow Leopard CD, or finding the appropriate drivers online. However, even after installing the Apple keyboard driver from the CD, I can't get Windows to actually use the special driver. Instead, the keyboard just shows up as a generic USB keyboard, with non-functioning Fn and other special keys. Being unable to generate a right-click or Ctrl-Alt-Del makes Windows a bit of a challenge to use. I've tried: uninstalling and reinstalling the keyboard driver removing the keyboard under device manager and letting Windows re-detect it using device manager to manually update the driver How do I get the special functions of the MacBook keyboard working under XP x64?

• How can I boot a vm on Hyper-V 2012 when it has a virtual hard-drive missing?

  We have a Hyper-V 2012 server with 8 VM's on. We have attached extra virtual hard-drives to each of the computers to store backups on. These drives are stored on a NAS. After a power failure, we tried to boot the VM's and found that they couldn't be booted without the attached backup drives. We couldn't boot the NAS at that point and so we had to remove all the extra drives manually, boot the VM's and re-attach the drives at a later date when we got the NAS back up and running. These backup drives are non-essential to the running of the system. I would like to know if there is a way to boot a VM on Hyper-V 2012 with some of the hard-drives (scsi) missing so that we can recover automatically from a power failure.

• Keyboard shortcut to cycle through programs (rather than just the alt-tab switch)?

  This question applies to both Windows and Mac OS X because I intend to use my mouse (Logitech G700) with both of them. The idea is I want one of my configurations to use two of my buttons to switch applications. However binding them to Alt/Cmd+Tab and Shift+Alt/Cmd+Tab is not good because the former functions as a toggle, and the latter cycles (in an unpredictable order). What I want is to move through my open applications in a circular buffer order. Do either of these OS's provide any keyboard shortcut that accomplishes this? I could live with just Alt/Cmd+Tab set to one button, but it limits me to being able to switch between only two programs.

• bluray playback stuttering/choppy on mac

  I have had a few issues with bluray playback on mac with the following details: 2.4 GHz Core 2 duo NVidia 8600 m GT 256 mb ram 4 GB ram OSX Lion 10.7.5 Using VLC 2.03 for playback Files either mounted as a disc or stored on hardisk. I have tried various sources and playback is always choppy and stutters. Where the video and audio pause for a few seconds before resuming ok. If I transcode the same bluray files into mkv files play back is seemless. I am not applying any compression and the resolution is the same as is the nominal file size. For a recent example 11.2 GB m2ts and 10.5 GB mkv file. This stuttering and choppy playback of bluray files through VLC has occured for a number of different sources. For each of these sources transcoding to mkv solves the stuttering/choppiness. Any ideas on how to resolve this?

• Run BGInfo At Startup For All Users

  I have a Windows 7 image which I intend to deploy across a business. For simplicity I intend to install BGInfo on each machine and have it update each time a user logs in. From what I can see, when BGInfo creates a configuration file, the file contains variables which are local to each account - and therefore the configuration file will only work on the user account that created it. Has anyone any idea as to how make these configuration files 'generic' so that BGInfo will work for all accounts when they log in? At present I have the BGInfor application and a BGInfo configuration file saved on the C drive and I have written a batch file which is stored in the 'All Users/Start Menu/Startup' directory (which executes every time any user on the computer logs in), however this only works for the account which created the configuration file. • Linux, PHP, and mysqlnd?

  Looks like most common distros build their PHP packages without mysqlnd, instead relying on the old libmysql library. Are there any distros that do include the new mysql native driver even as an option in any of their officially supported repositories? If not, is it possible (and if so, how) to rebuild these three (mysql, mysqli, & pdo_mysql) extensions without having to rebuild the entire PHP install? In my case, there are several PHP functions I need that are available only if these Mysql extenstions are built against mysqlnd. So I'd be fine installing a new OS to get these if the OS offers and supports it.

• Need to install just libswresample.so.0 on Centos 6 - how? (for FFMPEG)

  I'm trying to get ffmpeg running on a Centos 6 machine and it has been uphill the whole way. I thought I had got it but when I go to use ffmpeg I get the error: ffmpeg: error while loading shared libraries: libswresample.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I looked in /usr/local/lib, which is where all the libraries are stored, and I do not have that exact file but I do have "libswresample.a". I gave up on the official FFMPEG Centos directions due to all kinds of issues and used yum to install. Where do I find the missing library and can I just put the file in my /usr/local/lib to fix? Thanks -- have a basic Linux understanding, more familiar with Ubuntu than Centos.

• Can I get some help on a javascript project?

  I'm learning javascript and I thought it would be fun to build a "simple" calculator. I spent a few hours coding, and implementing the functions, but it only works partially. Can one of you look at my code and try and figure out what's wrong? The Calculator.zip Here's some explanation of the issues: the add(), subtract(), multiply(), and divide() methods work partially, not at all, or don't do as they're supposed to.. sometimes the 0 wont clear when the replaceDisplay() method evaluates the screen. If it helps, I'm also using jquery, so keep that in mind. Thank you!

• Where's my tab completion and up-arrow behavior? (Ubuntu 10.04)

  I'm new to Linux, trying Ubuntu 10.04, preconfigured by host. When I log in (SSH) using the preconfigured account, the shell prompt is: user@hostname:~$ The up arrow scrolls through the list of recent shell commands, and tab-completion works as expected. However, when I create an account and log in (SSH) using that account, the shell prompt is simply "$", and the up arrow just prints a control character (^[[A). Can anyone tell me how to get my prompt, tab-completion, and up-arrow behavior set up? The fact that I'm getting control characters when I up-arrow makes me think that my account (or session) is in some mode I'm unfamiliar with. I know there is tab-completion code stored in bashrc that I can uncomment, but that doesn't seem to have any effect, even after logging out and logging back in. Am I in some strange mode when I SSH in with the new account, or are there just some session/account settings I need to set up, and can find information for anywhere on the Internet if I just knew what to look for?

• Windows 8 will only recognize the Blu Ray ROM, if the install disk is present at boot time [migrated]

  If I have the install disk in the blu ray ROM drive at boot time and subsequently remove the disk and replace it with blu ray media everything functions as I'd expect. However, if I have no media present, or another disk in the drive at boot time, then windows 8 does not seem to recognize that the blu ray player is even present in the computer. It is not present in the 'my computer' screen, device manager does not show the player, and scanning for new hardware yields nothing. It seems that the driver is installed and working as expect, what is it about having the windows 8 install disk in the drive or not that would cause this kind of behavior?

A) What are the risks ?( besides show table issue) B) After setting lower_case_table_names=1, will I be in position to query databases across multiple platforms consistantly ? select * from USERS == select * from users; C) How the triggers + stored procedure + functions + views + events will be affected in this regards. I know lower_case_table_names is only for "TABLE" names but how about triggers other database objects . Will they remain case-insensitive How about views ? D) Do I need to rename all tables before/after this configuration setting or this will do the miracle in one step (i.e lower_case_table_names=1 neutralize table names) ? E) What will be the exact steps WRT:mysqd / my.ini ?

• Inconsistent slow DB connect times

  I have an app that shows significantly increased load times every 5 minutes. We use New Relic and I've been able to identify that every slow request is due to our DB connect functions. I've looked through our frontend servers and db servers and have ensured that there are no cronjobs running every 5 minutes - though the increase comes every 5 minutes without fail. I feel like I've tried everything I can to isolate this but I'm not having any luck. It is not coming from a cronjob, there is no cache expiring every 5 minutes, etc. What else could I check, and does anyone know of anything that could cause this sort of behavior? For what it's worth - our stack includes Apache, PHP, MySQL, Varnish and Memcache. SQL and memcache are running on dedicated servers and we have a number of frontend servers behind a load balancer, each running Apache and Varnish. • USB flash drive showing empty but half of the capacity is in Used

  Not sure if I should post my question in superuser, but it looks like the most appropriate place among all StackExchange sites. I have a 16GB Kingston DataTraveler USB drive. When I tried to use it this morning, it showed up nothing in there but yet its details showed that half of the capacity was in used. I tried it with OS X, Ubuntu, and Windows 7 and the results were the same. I tried to create a new folder and it worked. Apparently, the drive is working but somehow not showing my previously stored data. Note that I was still using the drive last night and there wasn't any problems. Following @rob's suggestion, du -h gave me: 16K ./.Trashes 960K ./.Spotlight-V100/Store-V1/Stores/2620683B-A38B-42F4-A247-45CAF4826ADE 976K ./.Spotlight-V100/Store-V1/Stores 1008K ./.Spotlight-V100/Store-V1 1.0M ./.Spotlight-V100 1.1M And, df -h gave me: /dev/sdb1 15G 7.9G 7.1G 53% /media/KINGSTON Confirming what I reported. What is the best permission structure (users, groups, unix permissions) for running a single instance of apache for multiple users? Ideally, it should satisfy these requirements: Each user's websites are stored in a subdirectory of their home directory. Users can edit files and permissions. Apache can read the websites of all users. No user can read the website files of other users. Bonus question: how to add PHP and/or Perl and/or Ruby to Apache without allowing any users to access any other user's files?

• Meeting reminders disappearing after accepting

  I have a particular user whose Outlook is acting up. Whenever he accepts a meeting invitation from a specific person, the reminders get turned off in the calendar. Every other person who got the meeting invitation still gets the reminders. This is the only thread that I found somewhat relevant: http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/32118199/lost-functionality-when-accepting-meeting-requests.aspx This is weird though because he doesn't have any rules that should cause the meeting invitations to be stored in a weird folder or anything, they are left alone. I tried loading his profile and accepting the invitation on my end, and it went through fine (it was marked down in the calendar with a 15 minute reminder). • Pressing zero key brings up lock/switch user screen in W7

  This issue started after my cat walked all over the keyboard... Whenever I press the "zero" key, the screen goes black and I'm taken to the lock/switch user screen. The other functions of the key work fine - it can produce ) and / like usual. Numlock is off, and as far as I know, my computer doesn't have Function Lock. If I log out of my user account and sign in as a guest, the "zero" works again, but if I create a new user profile, it doesn't work. I get the same issue when I hit "zero" using the on-screen keyboard. My keyboard layout is set to US English. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the ATK package, and updated my keyboard drivers. I have an ASUS U43JC-X1 laptop running Windows 7, and I haven't installed any new programs lately.

Currently I use a "hack" where I manually enter links to the entries in the "Notes" field of that entry. Static tables having look up values are to be stored in one DB and another DB would be having tables with dynamic data. My problem is that how would I use foreign key constraint in between those two DBs. Can someone help me out and suggest a way to proceed, better if I'm provided an example for the same. I thought of using synonyms for tables and then constraints on synonyms. but later I came to know that synonyms couldn't be used for constraints. I need to maintain relationships among the tables from both DB as the issue is with update, with a new release I just want to update look up tables and for the same I want to split my DB. I want to know how FileGroups could be used for this.

• Which IMAP servers support both messages and subfolders in a folder?

  Hi, I currently have a POP server for email, which is delivered to a Thunderbird client. This Thunderbird client stores email locally into a hierarchy of subfolders containing both emails and subfolders. I now want to access this locally stored email from other clients. My first solution was to create an IMAP mailbox and move all the messages to the IMAP server. I wasn't able to do it because my IMAP server refused to create subfolders in folders already containing email. As the original hierarchy is quite complex, I can't modify it to try to get along with this limitation. Are there any Linux IMAP server that would accept having both messages and subfolders in a folder?

This processing consists of appending the message to a locally stored txt-file and send it as http, with a post variable to another server. I've looked into Nginx but as far is can see this server can only be bound to receive http packets. Although it is asynchronous. What is the best way to achieve this listening-service on linux? • Can one use Airport (Time Capsule) with an external DHCP server?

  I currently share my DSL connection using a wireless router with DHCP disabled, and dnsmasq running on a Mac Mini serving DHCP & DNS. This setup is important because I have clients doing PXE boot, and I need the control over DHCP that dnsmasq provides. There is also a Time Capsule on the network that's used purely as a backup device; its wireless functions are disabled. The wireless router is starting to get a little flaky, and since it doesn't support 802.11n I'd like to replace it. Rather than buying a new router, I'd like to just use the Time Capsule. But I see no way to disable its DHCP server; when I set the connection type to PPPoE, it insists on serving DHCP. Is there any way to use Airport PPPoE with a DHCP server elsewhere on the network?

  I used to upgrade my php from 5.3.5-1ubuntu7.11 to 5.3.18-1~dotdeb.0 I got a lot of problems after the upgrading process . My localhost/phpmyadmin displaying the blank screen. apache2 show me a warning message waiting [Sun Nov 04 12:11:21 2012] [warn] The Alias directive in /etc/apache2/conf.d/phpmyadmin.conf at line 3 will probably never match because it overlaps an earlier Alias. most of CMS cant installed and show me this error Required MySQL version for CMS is 5.x but this server has: mysqlnd 5.0.8-dev the Scripts that has been already installed some of there functions doesn’t work i've googled a lot to fix this problems also i ve googled about downgrading the php version from 5.3.18 to 5.3.x but it doesn’t work with me Can you help please Many thanks

• Path erased in Debian

  I'm trying to deploy a rails app in Debian, using Apache/Passenger. I was trying to fox a problem with some GEMs and in the process I put executed this in console: export PATH=/var/lib/gems/1.8/bin/:${vendor/cache} Now my path environmental variable is gone, or at least its content. My server is running under Debian 6. Is there a way to recover my path info? Or at least can someone point me where to find the file where that variable i s stored? Some help please. This is a BIG problem for me. Thanks in advance!
