  • Script to embed image and CSS data in HTML files

    I have a HTML page which references external stylesheets and shows some images. I'm looking for an easy way to include all referenced external resources in the HTML file directly, so that it doesn't have any external references any more. (Images should be included in the HTML file using the <img src="data:image/jpg;base64,[...] method). EDIT: I want to do this so that my web proxy can deliver a nice-looking error page if the backend is down, so I have to assume all my webservers cannot deliver the static content which would normally be linked to from my websites (CSS, images).

  • DNS question and Google PageRank from domains

    I'm not so good at dns at all :) Just basics. A while ago i have noticed, that my blog have different Page Ranks, PR 3 for domain www.example.com and PR 1 for domain example.com. In dns records i have this setup: A - IP - www.example.com A - same IP - example.com Should i replace this record "A - same IP - example.com" with row with CNAME instead of A? Like that: CNAME - same IP - example.com - alias www.example.com Will this combine Page Rank value of both domains? Or i can just create 302 redirection inside .htaccess file, verify example.com(without www) inside Google Webmaster Tools as my domain and inside www.example.com options set as main domain?     I am making a HTML page that is unpublished and that I just started. The first thing I wanted to do was add a favicon to appear next to the tile. I'm using google chrome an I noticed that other websites have favicons that appear next to the tile in the browser, but mine wont show up.   • Cannot boot from USB disk with "not a COM32R image" error

    After installing 11.10 on my Dell Studo 15 (Model 1557) laptop, it started to overheat. Recently it even shutdown twice saying that critical temperature has reached even when I was just idling (not even a single program was open except for Firefox). After learning that it is a problem with 3.0.0 kernel I decided to roll back to 10.04 LTS. I have downloaded the most recent 10.04 iso from ubuntu.com and created a live USB using startup disk creator in 11.10. But when I am trying to boot from USB I am getting the following error vesamenu.c32: not a COM32R image I have installed ubuntu from usb stick a couple of dozen times before this and I think it is not a problem with my hardware. Please tell me what to do.

  • I cannot search/find any applications in the Dash on 12.04

    Its been a while since I booted my Ubuntu (12.04), but when i did I had several updates (over 100) and I installed them along with rebooting. These updates seemed to mess with my video driver but I seemed to have fixed this. My problem is that my applications do not show anywhere. I can open them via terminal or if there are shortcuts (such as on the toolbar) but if I hit Super and go to Apps, there is nothing. This is true if I hit Super and search any app name nothing will come back (except for files). I need help to understand what happened! Also for some reason I can't upgrade to 12.10 (I assume because I have 12.04 and not 12.04.1, which I don't understand how to get).

  • Unity Dash to search only in Documents

    I have a document (LibreOffice Calc Spreadsheet) which is in my ~/Documents folder. However, I have the same file (older version of it) on a mounted drive. In the past few weeks I have opened the file from both my ~/Documents folder and from the mounted drive. However, the latest version is the one from ~/Documents. When I open the Dash and look in the documents lens, of course I will find my file twice there. One from the mounted disk and one from ~/Documents. But I don't know which one is which. So, my question is: How can I limit the document lens to look for documents only from my /home. Or to exclude mounted disks from the search. Thanks. I use Ubuntu 12.04.

    Let's say I have a web page with user-contributed content, which is good content but with bad grammar, slang terms, inappropriate tone. I know that bad grammar is a also a problem because it drives away visitors and scares people from linking to it, but let's put that aside. Let's also put aside the fact that incorrectly spelt terms might be ignored by a crawler, potentially leading to less text-comparizon hits. QUESTION: Do search engines like Google directly recognize and penalize bad grammar? For instance because they might consider bad-grammar as a sign of low-quality content.

  • Including Specific Characters with Google Web Fonts

    I'm using the Open Sans web font from Google Web Fonts on my website. I only need the basic latin subset, but I do use the Psi (?) character quite often as well and I would like to use the Open Sans version of that character, without having to include the entire greek subset. I looked at this help page which shows how to embed specific characters only using the text parameter, but there's no mention of including specific characters.     I have this wish that so far Google hasn't been able to fulfill. I want to find a package (ideally in PHP, because I know PHP, but I guess that's not a hard requirement) that you point at a database, it builds an ORM based on what it finds there, and exposes a REST interface over the web. Everything I've found in my searches requires a bunch of code--like, it wants you to build the classes for it, but it'll handle the REST request routing. Or it does database and relational stuff just fine, but you have to build your own methods for all the CRUD actions. That's dumb. REST is well defined. If I wanted to re-invent the wheel, I totally could, but I don't want to. Isn't there somebody who's built a one-shot super-simple auto-RESTing web service package?

  • Clonezilla failing as soon as image copying begins

    I have been trying unsuccessfully to create an image of an Ubuntu 10.04 laptop system. As soon as the copying itself starts, the entire system crashes to a black screen. I suspect that the problem is overheating, and that's why I put an ice pack under the machine. That seems to have helped a bit, but it's still not getting through the copying process. Is there any other possible explanation for dying to a black screen like this? I'm just not relishing the task of removing the hard drive, mounting it elsewhere, and then doing a backup that way.

    I just installed the ATI driver for my Ubuntu 11.10. After some annoying bugs and errors it works for now. But there is one most stupid bug. Whenever I open a picture in the default image viewer (eye of gnome EOG) it shows me an overexposed picture.     This is what I am trying to achieve: A given image would occupy say 3/4th height of the screen. The remaining 1/4th area would be a reflection of it with some waves (water effect) on it. I'm not sure how to do this. But here's my approach: render the given texture to another texture called mirror texture (maybe FBOs can help me?) invert mirror texture (scale it by -1 along Y) render mirror texture at height = 3/4 of the screen add some sense of noise to it OR using pixel shader and time, put pixel.z = sin(time) to make it wavy (Tech: C++/OpenGL/glsl) Is my approach correct ? Is there a better way to do this ? Also, can someone please recommend me if using FrameBuffer Objects would be the right thing here ? Thanks

    We have a client that needs an e-commerce site set up pretty quickly. As I have no experience with e-commerce, I am looking for some guidance. Basically, the two big features we need are: Ability for customer to add info about order (example: the name the customer wants to be put on the customizable product they ordered) Ability for customer to upload photo of product to be customized I hope this makes sense. Right now I am really looking into Shopify, but I can't tell if it does everything we need. I know you can add order notes when checking out, but not sure about image upload (maybe it can be added as an app through the API?).

  • Black Screen When Booting From .VDI Image

    I have cloned a VirtualBox machine, which runs Ubuntu 11.04 32-bit as Guest OS. I now wish to transfer it to a new host machine running Windows Vista 32-bit. I’ve transferred the .vdi file and adjusted the name and memory. However when I boot it, the options to choose the Linux version came up: Ubuntu, with Linux 2.6.38-10-generic, Linux 2.6.38-10-generic(recovery mode) , Previous Linux versions, Memory test. Once I chose Linux 2.6.38 a black screen just appears with an underscore at the top. What should I do to get it to run? I don’t have my original machine near me now so I can only work with my .vdi image. My VB is version 4.0.10. I have tried cloning this VDI and also assigning a new UUID and making a new guest, but I still got the black screen. Thank you.
