  • Ajax post failing in asp

    hey guys, this might be really stupid, but hopefully someone can help.     Hi, We're developing a layered web application. The specs: 3 layers, data layer, business layer, ui layer. Programmed in C# Data Layer uses the entity framework Currently we plan on having the data layer return IEnumerable<T> to the business layer via linq 2 entities, and the business layer will return data to the ui layer. Since the ui layer has no knowledge of the existance of the data layer, how would it handle a result of IEnumerable passed to it from the BLL, where T is defined in the data layer? Are there any GOOD example out there on how to do this. Please note that I'm extremely new to factories / interfaces / abstraction to loosely couple layers. I saw the question here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/917457/passing-data-in-an-ntier-application and it was recommended to have the entity layer shared amongst all layers... however I do not want the other layers to be able to query the database.

Basically what I want to know if that the view for a given action has rendered without errors I m already testing the view model but I want to see that rendering the view giving a correct ViewData.Model works

    I have an OrderForm domain class, which has property subclasses, something like: interface IOrderForm { int OrderId { get; } ICustomerDetails CustomerDetails { get; set; } IDeliveryDetails DeliveryDetails{ get; set; } IPaymentsDetails PaymentsDetails { get; set; } IOrderDetails OrderDetails { get; set; } } My "Details" view is strongly typed inheriting from IOrderForm. I then have a strongly type partial for rendering each section: <div id="CustomerDetails"> <% Html.RenderPartial("CustomerDetails", Model.CustomerDetails); %> </div> <div id="DeliveryDetails"> <% Html.RenderPartial("DeliveryDetails", Model.DeliveryDetails); %> </div> ... etc This works ok up to this point, but I'm trying to add some nice ajax bits for updating some parts of the order form, and I've realised that each of my partial views also needs access to the IOrderForm.OrderId. Whats the easiest way to give my partials access to this value?

    Hi there, The short version of this question is "Is there a way to get automatic View Object binding for fields defined in a partial class for a Linq-To-SQL generated class?" Apologies if it's been asked before. Example Suppose I have a typical MVC setup with the tables: Posts {PostID, ...} Categories {CategoryID, ...} A post can have more than one category, and a category can identify more than one post. Thus suppose further that I need an extra table: PostCategories {PostID, CategoryID, ...} This handles the many-to-many relationship between posts and categories. As far as I know, there's no way to do this in Linq-to-SQL right now so I have to shoehorn it in by adding a partial Postclass to the project to add that functionality. Something like: public partial class Post { public IEnumerable<Category> Categories{ get { ... } set { ... } } } So here's my question: If a user is accessing my MVC application front-end and begins editing a Post object, they might enter an invalid category. When the server recognizes the invalid input, the usual practice is to return the faulty object to the original view for re-editing along with some error messages. The fields in the edit page are re-populated with the provided values. However I don't know how to get this mechanism to work with the properties I created with the partial class as shown above. Any terminology, links, or tips you can provide would be tremendously helpful!

    I want to cache all the images on my site, so I used this code: <%Response.AddHeader "Expires","Tue, 2 October 2013 00:00:00 GMT"%> The problem is that google says the images are not cached, whenever I go to this site: https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed Also in chrome, I can see that it gives a Get response for all the images. Why is that and how can I cache the images for the next year.

    I'd like to do visitor tracking similar to how stackoverflow does it.. By reading through numerous posts, I've figured out some details already: Count only 1 IP hit per 15 minutes (if anonymous) Count only 1 unique user-Login (per day?) Now that leaves the question of the real implementation.. Should I log the two factors live into a table (and increase count) | IP | timestamp | pageurl | Or do the counting AFTERWARDS (e.g. using IIS log files - which don't include the user, right? I know there're some similar posts outside, but NONE really has a great solution in my opinion yet..

The user control makes use of a Model: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<BudgieMoneySite.Models.SiteUserLoginModel>" %> This user control is shown on all screens (Part of the Master Page). If the user is logged in, it shows a certain text, and if the user isn't logged in, it offers a login box. That is working OK. Now, I am adding my first functional screen. So I created a new view... and, well, i generated the basic view code for me when I selected the controller method, and said 'Create View'. My Controller has this code: public ActionResult Transactions() { List<AccountTransactionDetails> trans = GetTransactions(); return View(trans); } private List<AccountTransactionDetails> GetTransactions() { List<AccountTransactionDto> trans = Services.TransactionServices.GetTransactions(); List<AccountTransactionDetails> reply = new List<AccountTransactionDetails>(); foreach(var t in trans) { AccountTransactionDetails a = new AccountTransactionDetails(); foreach (var line in a.Transactions) { AccountTransactionLine l = new AccountTransactionLine(); l.Amount = line.Amount; l.SubCategory = line.SubCategory; l.SubCategoryId = line.SubCategoryId; a.Transactions.Add(l); } reply.Add(a); } return reply; } So, my view was generated with this: <%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<System.Collections.Generic.List<BudgieMoneySite.Models.AccountTransactionDetails>>" %> Found <%=Model.Count() % Transactions. All I want to show for now is the number of records I will be displaying. When I run it, I get an error: "The model item passed into the dictionary is of type 'System.Collections.Generic.List`1[BudgieMoneySite.Models.AccountTransactionDetails]', but this dictionary requires a model item of type 'BudgieMoneySite.Models.SiteUserLoginModel'." It looks like the user control is being rendered first, and as the Model from the controller is my List<, it's breaking! What am I doing wrong?

    Hi guys, i have a problem with cross-domain cookies. I read a lot of documentation about sharing cookies between subdomains. The main idea of all articles is set Domain property to something like ".mydomain.com". I've created two domains on local IIS server - test1.local.boo and test2.local.boo. They works great and visible with browser. I have the following code: Site test1 - Writes cookie: HttpCookie myCookie = new HttpCookie("TestCookie"); myCookie.Domain = ".local.boo"; myCookie["msg"] = "Welcome from Cookie"; Response.Cookies.Add(myCookie); Site test2 - Reads cookie: HttpCookie cookie = Request.Cookies["TestCookie"]; if (cookie != null) { Response.Write(cookie["msg"]); } else { Response.Write("FAILED"); } This code always shows FAILED message. So it means that second site can't read cookie from the same subdomain. Where is my mistake??

    Hello, I'm trying to update values from a xml file into textboxes. I have this javascript being called in the Page_Load event this.Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "Script", sb.ToString(), true); I click the continue button which does a post back but the values are not updated until I refresh the page again which makes me think the js isn't being run until after the page is returned. I'm wondering how to have the values updated when the page is refreshed after the button postback. thanks

    Hey guys, I'm trying to validate a model object outside of the context of ModelState within a controller, I currently have a parser that creates model objects from an excel file and I want to be able to report how many entries were added to the database and how many failed, is there a way to validate a model object on its data annotations outside of model binding? I'm looking for something similar to the rails model method of model.valid? or a way for me to implement that myself. My current solution is just manually checking if a few key fields are present but this duplicates requirements between my model class and its metadata, there has to be a better way to hook into the model validation checking that is done by mvc 2.     This one has me stumped, despite the numerous posts on here. The scenario is a basic MVC(2) web application with simple CRUD operations. Whenever the edit form is submitted and the UpdateModel() called, an exception is thrown: System.Data.Linq.ForeignKeyReferenceAlreadyHasValueException was unhandled by user code This occurs against a DropDownList value which is a foreign key on the entity table. However, there is another DropDownList list on the form, representing another foreign key, which does not throw the error (unsurprisingly). Changing the property values manually inside the Edit Action: Recipe recipe = repository.GetRecipe(int.Parse(formValues["recipeid"])); recipe.CategoryId = Convert.ToInt32(formValues["CategoryId"].ToString()); recipe.Page = int.Parse(formValues["Page"].ToString()); recipe.PublicationId=Convert.ToInt32(formValues["PublicationId"].ToString()); Allows the CategoryId and Page properties to be updated, and then the error is thrown on the PublicationId. All of the referential integrity is checked an the same in the db and the dbml. Any light shed on this would be most welcome.
