• Recommendation for a non-standard SSL port

  Hey guys, On our server I have a single IP, and need to host 2 different SSL sites. Sites have different owners so have different SSL certificates, and can't share the same certificate with SAN. So as a last resort I have modified the web application to give the ability to use a specified port for secure pages. For its simple look I used port 200. However I'm worried about some visitors may be unable to see the site because of their firewalls / proxies blocking the port for ssl connections. I heard some people were unable to see the website, a home user and someone from an enterprise company, don't know if this was the reason. So, any recommendations for a non-standard SSL port number (443 is used by the other site) which may work for visitors better than port 200 ? Like 8080 or 8443 perhaps? Thanks!

• Using same onmouseover function for multiple objects

  I'm creating a building game in JavaScript and PHP that involves a grid. Each square in the grid is a div, with an own onmouseover and onmousedown function: for(x=0; x < width; x++) { for(y=0; y < height; y++) { var div = document.createElement("div"); //... div.onmouseclick = function() {blockClick(x, y)} div.onmouseover = function() {blockMouseover(x, y)} game.appendChild(div); } } But, all of the squares seem to have the x and y of the last square that was added. I can sort of see why this is happening - it is making a pointer to x and y instead of cloning the variables - but how could I fix it? • Microsoft CA certificate templates expires sooner than expected

  The certificates my Microsoft CA is generating do not match the time period indicated in the template used. How can I resolve this? I recently created a new certificate template for use on my Linux boxes on my Microsoft CA (2008 R2 Enterprise). This template is approved for server and client authentication purposes with a validity period of 10 years - the expected lifetime of our Linux boxes - and the subject name supplied in the request. I have checked both the intermediate and offline CA - both have more than 10 years of life listed. Is there some kind of hard limit I'm hitting here?

• Winlogon Application Error [closed]

  This error is happening to 6 out of 32 computers. I have created a base image from scratch using Ghost Enterprise, but error still shows on the same machines. It happens at the log on prompt and after doing a soft reset the message goes away, but it comes back eventually. -Error message- The Instruction at "0X74eF400e" referenced Memory at "0X00000000" The memory could not be "Written". Winlogon.exe - Application Error Any reason why this is happening? I have tried to run a memTest but everything shows okay.

• High disk time on sql-server

  Hi We have a dedicated sql-server 2008 r2 enterprise edition. The setup is: D: (data files) - stored on local ssd disks (not the same disks as log files) (raid 10) E: (log files) - stored on local ssd disks (not the same disks as data files) (raid 1) F: (transaction log backup) - stored remote on a SAN Today we moved our log files to new disks (from F: to E:). From a shared volume ( F:(SAN)) to dedicated local disks (E:). What then happend was that the "disk time", "avg. transfer time" and "avg disk write queue length" increased on the volume where we have the data files (D:) (not on the volume where the log files are located). The data volume and log volume does not share disks, however they share the same controller card. "Disk idle time" is low for all volumes. One thought is ofcourse that the controller card might be overloaded. But, we need more ideas on where the problem might be.

• How to configure sudoers to always keep LD_LIBRARY_PATH envrionment variable?

  No matter what I try, it seems that the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable is not kept after I run a command with sudo. The only way I managed to have it stick, is to prefix my sudo command with LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/the/path whenever I call it from the command-line, but I would like to not have to do this every time. It seems the env_keep option ignores this variable, and so does the exempt_group option. My %group currently has ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD:ALL as its access in sudoers. I would like this specific environment variable to be kept for any command I run. How can I do this? My server is running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.7.

  I am logging into facebook using a web browser. • Multiple WPFPreviewHandlers in One Window? Can it be done?

  Here is the scenario. I am building a part of my desktop app up and I have a need to create a preview handler. I found plenty of examples on the web of a WPF Preview handler, but I wanted to go one step more than just that. Lets say we have multiple documents and I wished to compare them. So the ideal scenario would be able to see documents side by side in a collection. Sort of how BING does their image search. But the more documents I select in a list box, the more documents I can compare all at once. The second Ideal solution would be a tabbed interface. One tab for each document. Sort of like how internet browsers are doing it now. Understand? So here is the question that I have been struggling with. I can get one preview to work in a window, but can’t get the second one to show up. This is all WPF code so maybe im doing something wrong, but can you preview more than one document in a window at a time? My thought is no, because the previewhandler needs a window handler to lock onto. I would love small code sample since COM and handlers aren’t my sort of thing, but I can manage if you are just able to point me down the right track.   I am developing a win32 windows application with Delphi and MS SQL Server. it works fine in LAN but I am trying to add the support for SQL Server remote connections (= working with a DB that can be accessed with an external IP, as described in this article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;914277). Basically I have a Table in DB where I keep the DocumentID, the document description and the Document path (like \FILESERVER\MyApplicationDocuments\45.zip). Of course \FILESERVER is a local (LAN) path for the server but not for the client (as I am now trying to add the support for remote connections). So I need a way to access \FILESERVER even if of course I cannot see it in LAN. I found the following T-SQL code snippet that is perfect for the "download trick": SELECT BulkColumn as MyFile FROM OPENROWSET(BULK '\FILESERVER\MyApplicationDocuments\45.zip' , SINGLE_BLOB) AS X With the code above I can download a file on the client. But how to upload it? I need an "Uppload trick" to be able to insert new files, but also to delete or replace existing files. Can anyone suggest? If a trick is not available could you suggest an alternative? Like an extended stored procedure or calling some .net assembly from the server.

• How do large companies handle software updates for users without administrative rights?

  I just started working for a small-medium size company doing IT support. Maybe 150 or less users. Right now every user has administrative rights to their own machine. This allows them to install updates or whatever else they would like to. I'm tired of getting on user's machines that are bloated with crap they put on themselves. So my first thought would be to take away administrative rights to their computer. This would also have other advantages such as preventing a lot of drive-by malware on the web etc. The problem arises that users are unable to install updates. (Even though I find most ignore these anyway) How do large companies handle software updates on all client machines? EDIT: Windows environment. Most servers are Windows Server 2003 Enterprise. Clients are all Windows. Win XP, Vista, and 7.

• Alternatives for HP ProtectTools on EliteBook 2530p

  Hi, I'd like to use the HP fingerprint sensor on my Elitebook 2530p. The system is a fresh Win7 Enterprise 64-bit and we are looking for an alternative to the HP ProtectTools Security Suite, which seems a bit bloated. We have tried the UPEK ProtectorSuite (both WBF and stand-alone edition) and they say they can't find the fingerprint device. The device shows up in device manager, in the BioMetric system configuration I have enabled logon to Windows and Domain credentials. Are there any other fingerprint login software (free or commercial) that you can recommend. Thanks in advance, Alex

• Google Maps API and "rightclick" events on Macs

  Using the Google Maps API (v3), I can create a map and handle normal click events just fine, but when I want to handle rightclick events, it doesn't work on Macs. I assume this is because a rightclick on a Mac is actually converted to a ctrl-click, but the Google Maps API MouseEvent doesn't provide information about modifier keys, so I can't check for the ctrl key. I tried adding an "capture" event listener to the document that converts the click event to a rightclick event. function convertClick(e) { if (e.ctrlKey) { e.button = 2; } } document.addEventListener("click", convertClick, true) I added an alert to verify that the condition is correct, but modifying the event in this way didn't work. So, I decided to have my event handler set a global flag that my click handler could check. If the flag is set, it means ctrl was pressed, so the click handler just invokes the rightclick handler. var ctrl; function captureCtrl(e) { ctrl = e.ctrlKey; } This approach worked great, except for one thing. The ctrl flag gets set for the click after the one that occured when ctrl was pressed. That means the event handler is be called during the bubble phase rather than the capture phase. Could explain why the event modification approach didn't work. So, my question is how can you detect "rightclick" events from Macs with the Google Maps API? I can't be the first person to want to do this. That said, when I right-click on the map on http://maps.google.com from a Windows or Linux machine, I get a popup box with options like "Directions from here...", etc. On a Mac, nothing happens. So, not even the main Google Maps page has solved this problem. ...maybe I am the first person to want to do this.

• Cannot set property X of undefined - programatically created element

  I am working on a class to create a fairly complex custom element. I want to be able to define element attributes (mainly CSS) as I am creating the elements. So naturally, I am assuming that buttonDiv is undefined.. I put alert(ex + " " + __el); in __apply_settings() to verify what I was working with. Surprisingly enough, the element is a div. • asyncore callbacks launching threads... ok to do?

  I'm unfamiliar with asyncore, and have very limited knowledge of asynchronous programming except for a few intro to twisted tutorials. I am most familiar with threads and use them in all my apps. One particular app uses a couchdb database as its interface. This involves longpolling the db looking for changes and updates. The module I use for couchdb is couchdbkit. It uses an asyncore loop to watch for these changes and send them to a callback. So, I figure from this callback is where I launch my worker threads. It seems a bit crude to mix asynchronous and threaded programming. I really like couchdbkit, but would rather not introduce issues into my program. So, my question is, is it safe to fire threads from an async callback? • Using Interop.Word, is there a way to do a replace (using Find.Execute) and keep the original text's

  I'm attempting to write find/replace code for Word documents using Word Automation through Interop.Word (11.0). My documents all have various fields (that don't show up in Document.Fields) that are surrounded with brackets, eg., <DATE> needs to be replaced with DateTime.Now.Format("MM/dd/yyyy"). The find/replace works fine. However, some of the text being replaced is right-justified, and upon replacement, the text wraps to the next line. Is there any way that I can keep the justification when I perform the replace? • Adding a Windows Server 2012 Essentials server to an existing domain, without migrating the AD

  I have an existing Active Directory in house, a mix between a Win2K8R2 and Win2K3 domain, and i would like to test out Windows Server 2012 Essentials BETA on the network. When walking though the install, it gives me the option of a new domain, or migrating from an existing domain. when clicking existing, it tells me i can only have one SBS server running on a domain at a time... So, i dont have any existing SBS servers in house (both are full standard or enterprise editions) but i do plan on keeping at least one of these extra servers running... So, how do i get a 2012 Essentials server to join a domain, and not migrate the existing domain? or if i do migrate, can i still get one of the other boxes to act as secondary controllers?

• SharePoint: Filtering a List that has Folders

  I have a SharePoint document library that has a folder structure used for organizing the documents (but also for controlling access, via permissions on the folders). The documents in the library are updated every month, and we store every month's version of the document in the same folder; there's a "month" column used for filtering that will contain values like Jan 09, Feb 09, etc. It looks like this: Title Month ----- ----- SubFolder 1 SubFolder 2 [] Interesting Facts Jan 09 [] Interesting Facts Feb 09 [] Interesting Facts Mar 09 [] Fascinating Numbers Jan 09 [] Fascinating Numbers Feb 09 ... Now, because users will generally be most interested in the 'current' month, I'd like them to be able to apply a filter, and select (say) Mar 09. However, if they do this using the built-in filtering, it also filters out the folders, and they can no longer navigate the folder hierarchy. This is no good - I want them to be able to move between folders with the filter intact, so that they don't need to keep switching it off and on again. I figured I might be able to use a custom view (selecting where type=folder or month=[month]), and to an extent that does work. However, I can only get it to work for a fixed month, whereas I need the user to be able to select the month - perhaps via a drop-down control on the page (and I don't want to create 60 views for 5 years' worth of months, nor do I want to have to create a new view every month). I thought it might be possible to create a view in code (rather than via the UI), but I've not been able to figure out how to get a dynamic value (a user-specific setting) into the CAML query. Any pointers gratefully appreciated! And by the way, I am aware of the dogma that folders are bad, and that everything should just be a list. However, having considered the alternatives, I still favour using folders - if I can solve this problem. Thanks in advance.

• Resize my Google Map API

  I am new to JS, and have found the answer to a previous question, which brought up a new question, which brought me here again. I have a Reveal Modal that contains a Google Map API. When a button is clicked, the Reveal Modal pops up, and displays the Google Map. My problem is that only a third of the map is displaying. This is because a resize trigger needs to be implemented. My question is how do I implement the google.maps.event.trigger(map, 'resize')? Where do I place this little snippet of code? • jQuery validation with submit handler

  I setup the form validation using jQuery validation plug-in's validate method and I have a submit handler that modifies the input element's value (I use YUI editor and it needs saveHTML() call to copy the iframe's content to the textarea element.). When submitting the form, I want the validator to validate the form after executing my submit handler. But it doesn't execute my submit handler if it is registered after the validate call.
