  • A clear understanding about Mozilla Firefox web applications

    I have seen lately a concept of installing open web applications in Firefox and Google Chrome just like extensions here . While the site says it as a installable websites. It looks very similar to bookmarks to me. When you click either bookmarks or this installed applications, it opens new tab and the site or application can be viewed. My question is what is the main difference between normal web application like Gmail, or Super user or Facebook and these installable websites? Also what is the advantage in using this installable web apps from normal web applications which we can access by entering url in the browser address bar? I hope this is the right place to post this question. If not please guide me accordingly.

  • Firefox extension to save tabs?

    I'm looking for some Firefox (4 or 5) extension to save a group of tabs (better if can be done directly in Panorama view). What I mean by "Save tabs" is not to restore them when Firefox starts. I always have the browser opened and a LOT of tabs (work and personal life related) eating my RAM. So when I'm not working, I would want a way to save those tabs but keep them closed while I still use Firefox. So when I have to start working again, I will restore that saved tabs back again. I know I could use something like Read It Later, but I really need a way to say "hey, save this group of tabs and close them". RIL makes me do it per tab, which is annoying since I'm used to have A LOT.

  • Killing an unresponsive process

    I had closed an instance of utorrent. The task no longer appears in Applications, however the process utorrent.exe appears in Processes tab of Task Manager. I tried to kill using: Kill process button in Task Manager Kill process option in SysInternals Process Explorer Suspend, resume, restart in SysInternals Process Explorer command prompt by using the command taskkill /f /im utorrent.exe Stop-Process commandlet in Windows PowerShell. All of these have failed, the process just doesn't end. I cannot restart uTorrent because of the existing process running. Is there anyway I can kill this without having to resort to a system reboot ? I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate, OEM.

  • Why does PostgresQL query performance drop over time, but restored when rebuilding index

    According to this page in the manual, indexes don't need to be maintained. However, we are running with a PostgresQL table that has a continuous rate of updates, deletes and inserts that over time (a few days) sees a significant query degradation. If we delete and recreate the index, query performance is restored. We are using out of the box settings. The table in our test is currently starting out empty and grows to half a million rows. It has a fairly large row (lots of text fields). We are search is based of an index, not the primary key (I've confirmed the index is being used, at least under normal conditions) The table is being used as a persistent store for a single process. Using PostgresQL on Windows with a Java client I'm willing to give up insert and update performance to keep up the query performance. We are considering rearchitecting the application so that data is spread across various dynamic tables in a manner that allows us to drop and rebuild indexes periodically without impacting the application. However, as always, there is a time crunch to get this to work and I suspect we are missing something basic in our configuration or usage. We have considered forcing vacuuming and rebuild to run at certain times, but I suspect the locking period for such an action would cause our query to block. This may be an option, but there are some real-time (windows of 3-5 seconds) implications that require other changes in our code.   • How to relink user folders in Windows 7

    The short story: Win7 lost track of my user folders location (desktop, my documents, my pictures etc...). They now reside on a different partition. How can I relink these folders? The long story: The way I partition my drives is: C: - SSD drive for Windows and Program Files D: - A large regular hard drive for all my user data The first thing I do after a fresh Win7 install is move my user folders to D:, by right clicking on these folders under C:\users\username\, choosing the Location tab and clicking on Move. I've just completed encryption of D: using TrueCrypt. It shows a lot of warnings before the encryption process, but (hrrmm...) it does not mention the fact that after encryption the data is located on a new drive letter, say E: This broke Win7's links to my special user folders. How can I relink these folders?

  • Revert "Deny" permissions in Windows 7

    I made a very dumb mistake and I am hoping there is a way to fix this without having to boot in through a Linux Live CD and extracting the data. My user login to my Windows 7 system is: John John is part of the Administrator's group. I have a folder called "C:\Users\John" I tried to make this folder accessible to ONLY John (and deny from all other Administrators) by going to the Folder, Right Click Secturity tab and then selecting all the checkboxes under "Deny" while having selected the "Administrators" group. As a result, I cannot access this folder from any of the accounts: "John" and "Administrator" as both of them belong to the Administrators groupd and deny permissions out-weigh the "Allow Permissions" Is there any way I could revert this back?   • jQuery DataTables is messing op my CSS grids in IE8, how to fix?

    I am using ASP.NET MVC3 with the jQuery Datatable plug in. I am having an issues with my CSS layout when the datatable is on a page. If there is no datatable then everything displays fine. When the datatable is on the screen then it overlaps the footer of my website. I can't seem to get this to display correctly. I have a grid layout using the YUI3, and this is what I all use from YUI3 (in this order): cssreset-min cssfonts-min cssgrids-min cssbase-min This works fine in the latest version of FireFox. I am only testing on IE8, this is a requirement and most of the people at my work uses IE8. I have minified my HTML so that only the bare minimum is available. Is this the only way to do this?

  • Excel 2003 Freezes When Worksheet with PivotTable Selected

    All of the sudden, my Excel 2003 began an odd behavior today. Whenever I click on a worksheet tab that has a PivotTable on it, I become unable to click on any other tabs or on the menu with the options to minimize, maximize, and size at the top left of the worksheet window. I am left unable to click on the other tabs until I double-click inside a cell in the PivotTable worksheet and get a blinking curor as if to type. Then, I can navigate to other tabs normally. I can't think of any major changes I have made to my computer in the last day that would have caused this. I did instiall PC Tools antivirus over a week ago, and since that time have noticed my computer behaving in odd ways, but excel has been just fine until now. Does anyone have any thoughts on what might cause this? Thanks so much.

  • Windows 8.1 Search does not automatically select first search match

    When I search in Windows 8/8.1 (start menu-start typing), it doesn't automatically highlight the search term. For example, if I'm trying to open the "Internet Options" panel and type the entire thing out in search, I have to down arrow or tab to the "Internet Options" search result. This is retarded. I'm used to Windows 7 style search where the first match is highlighted and i can easily just hit return. First match highlighting does work for other built-in things like "Control Panel", but it should work for all things in general, as it did in Windows 7 search. Anyways, if there is an option to enable this in Windows 8/8.1, I'd appreciate the tip. Thanks!

I've just installed VMware Workstation 7.0.1 Build 2276000, after that Win 7 stuck on welcome screen and I have to click on the user image to continue. Before that because I have just one account Win7 just showed welcome screen for a minute and then it went to Win7 desktop automatically, but now I have to click on my account image to continue. Something that I've done : Start Run Msconfig Services Tab Checked Hide all Microsoft Services Disabled all services except Eset Services (Anti Virus) Unfortunately the problem haven't solved yet :( How should I fix it?

    Is there a way to adjust the spacing between list elements in Word 2010? I can apply a style to the list, and then edit the style, and edit the spacing before and after the element, but this applies to the list, not the list element. There are no styles I can see which can be applied to a list element allowing the spacing between list elements to be adjusted. If I select 1 list element, and then adjust the spacing before or after in the Page Layout tab, this applies to the whole list, not the list element, which defeats the purpose.

    Hello, How to do bind data from DataTable to Chart series? I get null reference exception. I tried binding with square brackets and it did not worked either. So, how to do the binding? Thanks.
