• hplip tries to print from photo tray

  I have hplip-3.14.4 with an HP Photosmart b210a and recently it has stopped printing properly. The issue is that it tries to print from the photo tray (which we don't use). I've tried setting this manually via the Settings page, but it makes no difference. My wife has the same issue (also using Ubuntu 12.04). EDIT: I've just set the printer up in Windows 7 and it works. So this is not a hardware fault and likely due to hplip or some Ubuntu software issue. Rolling back the driver to 3.13.8 does not make any difference. What else can I try

  I installed Ubuntu 12.04 desktop edition on my PC using VMWare workstation 7. I assigned 1GB RAM and 20 GB Hard disk to Ubuntu. While starting Ubuntu virtual machine, It is not starting up with GUI mode. In is prompting me my Login ID in textual mode always. After waiting for long time as well the GUI mode is not appearing. I tried running sudo apt-get install updates sudo apt-get install xinit sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop Honestly, i don't know the meaning of all these.I am very new to ubuntu.Please help me here what to do? • Screen is very dim on an Acer Aspire 6920Z

  I've been trying to figure this out for a week now, my laptops screen is on and working but you cannot see whats on the screen without shining a flashlight at it. I'm using a spare monitor by the VGA port right now to be able to use this laptop, which is kinda a pain. Been reading around a bit about this problem and it seems to be a common-ish problem it seems. I've tried to change the brightness which doesn't help whats so ever. It just happen one day after I turned off the laptop for the night. The screen flashes on for a bit at start up, then goes completely dim. Anyone with this problem and find a fix? You can search up this computers spec by the name/model in the title if you need hardware info. I never had this problem with the old Ubuntu 10.04.

  I have the following configuration, A host running Windows 7; A guest running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (VirtualBox); I am connecting a Cisco router directly to my PC running Windows 7 and testing the router for netflow packets in the virtualBox I am having a difficulty capturing the traffic of the netflow from the Cisco device in my virtualBox using port 2222. I tried to use the many different networking modes provided by virutalBox (i.e. NAT, Bridged Adapter, Host only adapter) but I am not successful in capturing the netflow traffic. Could you please advise me on the configuration setup that need to be done on the virtual box to allow capturing the traffic coming from the router. I successfully capture the netflow traffic on my PC (windows 7). Thank you

• Keyboard shortcuts get randomly reset

  I'm facing a rather weird issue in the past few days after doing a clean install of Ubuntu Oneiric (w/ gnome-shell) on my recently-bought Asus U36SD. I set up my keyboard shortcuts using System Settings Keyboard Shortcuts, and some of them get randomly reset. Most of my shortcuts include the win key (otherwise listed in the keyboard shortcuts as Mod4), but those containing only Mod4 + get reset every two-three reboots. For instance, Mod4 + T (for terminal), gets reset to the standard Ctrl + Alt + T, while Shift + Mod4 + W (for browser) doesn't (I've set up the latter with the Shift key, because it seems that Mod4 + W didn't get intercepted at all. Something similar goes for Mod4 + E for gedit, which only worked once or twice). I have no idea if this is a Ubuntu specific issue, or it's related to gnome-shell or even with my current hardware. Has this happened to any of you? If so, did you manage to fix it?

  When trying to install SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 to a SQL Server 2008 instance that is running on a virtual machine, the installer will start:   But then after about 20 seconds I receive the following error message: TITLE: SQL Server Setup failure. ----------------------------- SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error: Invoke or BeginInvoke cannot be called on a control until the window handle has been created. ------------------------------ BUTTONS: OK ------------------------------ Searching for this issue I found that several people have the same problem and there is no clear solution.  Some had success with closing windows or Internet Explorer but that didn’t work for me; what did work is to make sure the SQL Server 2008 “Please wait while SQL Server 2008 Setup processes the current operation.” dialog is selected and has the focus when it first shows up.  Selected (with the current focus) it looks like this:   Without focus the dialog looks like this: Add a comment if you find out any information about how to consistently get around this issue or why it is happening in the first place.

  I have installed the Ubuntu 14.04 on Dell Vostro 2520 laptop. Wifi is not working after installation. Tried several methods to install but nothing happens. Vostro-2520:~$ sudo rfkill list all 0: hci0: Bluetooth Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no Vostro-2520:~$ iwconfig usb0 no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions. lo no wireless extensions. • How to verify real people?

  For a music community, I want bands to be able to verify themselves. What is the best way to do this? For example I could let the record label mail me, but some bands are indepedent. I could also ask them to put a 'code' on their website or Facebook page and then check manually. I'm not per se looking for a waterproof solution, so no scanning of real life documents and I'm okay with doing the checks manually. In other words, how can you verify real people with their virtual presence?

So I would like to install it on this OS too, but even google didn't help me. So my question is how to install the latest b43 driver on my Ubuntu?

  I have an http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/dj/audio-2-dj/ The problem in settings it only sees one outpout, when there should be two(I need that for mixxx etc.) Also I want to be able set the sample rate to one of these 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96 kHz or at least check which one is set. Additionally if possible setting the latency would be an advantage.   Is there a reason why the source code of softwares mentioned in research papers is not released ? I understand that research papers are more about the general idea of accomplishing something than implementation details, but I don't get why they don't release the code. For example, in this paper ends with: Results The human line drawing system is implemented through the Qt framework in C++ using OpenGL, and runs on a 2.00 GHz Intel dual core processor workstation without any additional hardware assistance. We can interactively draw lines while the system synthesizes the new path and texture. Do they keep the source code closed intentionally because of a monetization they intend to make with it, or because of copyright ?

• keyboard status leds not working

  Running Ubuntu 13.10 64bit The status leds are not working correctly on my new keyboard under Ubuntu. Pressing Caps Lock and Num Lock do not cause the leds to turn on/off to reflect their status. Rather I have a num lock led stuck on, and a caps lock led that never turns on. The actual function of the caps lock and num lock is unaffected though, just the leds not working. I am able to use ¨setleds¨ to turn the leds on an off from a console session, so I don´t think there's any hardware problem. Also the keyboard does not have the same problem under windows 7. Anyone have any solutions? thanks! • Ubuntu 12.04: Unity stuck in 2D. Compiz crashes

  I have been trying to get Unity to work in 3D and hardware wise there should be no problem. I have the 310.14 NVIDIA driver and am using a GTX660-Ti card.   I'm currently using Ubuntu 12.04 64bit. After installing ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics drivers via Additional Drivers, I checked the status of my VGA card using lspci -v. • Adobe-Flash-plugin freezes when skipping ahead

  I am using Firefox 7 and the new official Adobe Flash 64-bit plugin from the Ubuntu Partner repository. It's the adobe-flash package. It works nicely on the first look but when I try to skip ahead in any YouTube video (by clicking on the video progress bar) sound will go on but the video simply freezes at the position it was just before skipping. This is really annoying because I really don't want to watch every video full length. Now maybe there's cleanup work to do? I removed every Flash-related package from the package manager. Maybe it's Firefox? I couldn't find any hint. Maybe it's the video manager (display manager)? I am using KDE on an Ubuntu Natty install. I also enabled hardware acceleration with libdvpau1: sudo bash -c "echo 'EnableLinuxHWVideoDecode=1' >> /etc/adobe/mms.cfg" (this seems to have no effect at all ...) Ubuntu Natty 64-bit, Firefox 7, Flash 11.01 )
