• Correct Way to Get Date Between Dates In SQL Server

  I have a table in SQL server which has a DATETIME field called Date_Printed. I am trying to get all records in the table which lie between a specified date range. Currently I am using the following SQL DECLARE @StartDate DATETIME DECLARE @EndDate DATETIME SET @StartDate = '2010-01-01' SET @EndDate = '2010-06-18 12:59:59 PM' SELECT * FROM table WHERE Date_Printed BETWEEN @StartDate AND @EndDate I have an index on the Date_Printed column. I was wondering if this is the best way to get the rows in the table which lie between those date or if there is a faster way. The table has about 750,000 records in it right now and it will continue to grow. The query is pretty fast but I'd like to make it faster if possible.

• Optimizing ROW_NUMBER() in SQL Server

  We have a number of machines which record data into a database at sporadic intervals. For each record, I'd like to obtain the time period between this recording and the previous recording. I can do this using ROW_NUMBER as follows: WITH TempTable AS ( SELECT *, ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY Machine_ID ORDER BY Date_Time) AS Ordering FROM dbo.DataTable ) SELECT [Current].*, Previous.Date_Time AS PreviousDateTime FROM TempTable AS [Current] INNER JOIN TempTable AS Previous ON [Current].Machine_ID = Previous.Machine_ID AND Previous.Ordering = [Current].Ordering + 1 The problem is, it goes really slow (several minutes on a table with about 10k entries) - I tried creating separate indicies on Machine_ID and Date_Time, and a single joined-index, but nothing helps. Is there anyway to rewrite this query to go faster?

  in the form action i have the following line\ <form action="{URL}" method="post" target="_self" id="xxx" name="xxx"> when rendered in the browser it becomes action="/abc/17224_pb/HTTP/index.php" this is just HTML. I cannot see anywhere the {URL} has been defined and anyway you cannot have variables in HTML (can you?) i thought it might be jquery but it would need to be in a script ?? Where does it come from? How is it defined? This code is not really in a framework but we do have some Zend framework code around.

  For this example Java class: package foo; public class TestInterop { public String test(int i) { return "Test(int)"; } public String test(Object i) { return "Test(Object)"; } } When I start Clojure and try to call the test(int) method, the test(Object) method is called instead, because Clojure automatically boxes the integer into a java.lang.Integer object. How do I force Clojure to call the test(int) method? user=> (.test (new foo.TestInterop) 10) "Test(Object)" I want to call methods like Component.add(Component comp, int index) in AWT, but instead keep calling add(Component comp, Object constraints), so the buttons on my toolbar always appear in the wrong order.

• How can I accept a hash mark in a URL via $_GET?

  From what I have been able to understand, hash marks (#) aren't sent to the server, so it doesn't seem likely that I will be able to use raw PHP to parse data like in the URL below: index.php?name=Ben&address=101 S 10th St Suite #301 I'm looking to pre-populate form fields with this $_GET data. How would I do this with Javascript (or jQuery), and is there a fallback that wouldn't break my form for people not using Javascript? Currently if there is a hash (usually in the address field), everything after that is not parsed in or stored in $_GET.

  Hi, I've just started a new project in ASP.net 4.0 with MVC 2. What I need to be able to do is have a custom hook at the start and end of each action of the controller. e.g. public void Index() { *** call to the start custom hook to externalfile.cs (is empty so does nothing) ViewData["welcomeMessage"] = "Hello World"; *** call to the end custom hook to externalfile.cs (changes "Hello World!" to "Hi World") return View(); } The View then see welcomeMessage as "Hi World" after being changed in the custom hook. The custom hook would need to be in an external file and not change the "core" compiled code. This causes a problem as with my limited knowledge ASP.net MVC has to be compiled. Does anyone have any advice on how this can be achieved? Thanks

• Random access gzip stream

  I'd like to be able to do random access into a gzipped file. I can afford to do some preprocessing on it (say, build some kind of index), provided that the result of the preprocessing is much smaller than the file itself. Any advice? My thoughts were: Hack on an existing gzip implementation and serialize its decompressor state every, say, 1 megabyte of compressed data. Then to do random access, deserialize the decompressor state and read from the megabyte boundary. This seems hard, especially since I'm working with Java and I couldn't find a pure-java gzip implementation :( Re-compress the file in chunks of 1Mb and do same as above. This has the disadvantage of doubling the required disk space. Write a simple parser of the gzip format that doesn't do any decompressing and only detects and indexes block boundaries (if there even are any blocks: I haven't yet read the gzip format description)

• Avoid implicit conversion from date to timestamp for selects with Oracle using Hibernate

  I'm using Hibernate 3.2.7.GA criteria queries to select rows from an Oracle Enterprise Edition 10.2.0.4.0 database, filtering by a timestamp field. The field in question is of type java.util.Date in Java, and DATE in Oracle. It turns out that the field gets mapped to java.sql.Timestamp, and Oracle converts all rows to TIMESTAMP before comparing to the passed in value, bypassing the index and thereby ruining performance. One solution would be to use Hibernate's sqlRestriction() along with Oracle's TO_DATE function. That would fix performance, but requires rewriting the application code (lots of queries). So is there a more elegant solution? Since Hibernate already does type mapping, could it be configured to do the right thing? Update: The problem occurs in a variety of configurations, but here's one specific example: Oracle Enterprise Edition 10.2.0.4.0 Oracle JDBC Driver 11.1.0.7.0 Hibernate 3.2.7.GA Hibernate's Oracle10gDialect Java 1.6.0_16

• jqueryForm and empty uploads

  Hi All, Been scratching my head for too long on this: Using jquery.form, (http://malsup.com/jquery/form) with PHP ... my $_FILES['someimage'] gets set but the error number is always UPLOAD_ERR_NO_FILE, size is also 0. The JavaScript: $('form input[type=file]').change(function(){ $(this).clone().appendTo('#imgform'); $('#imgform').ajaxForm(); $('#imgform').ajaxSubmit( { type:'POST' } ); }); Which appends to: <form id="imgform" method="POST" action="/api/images.php" enctype="multipart/form-data"></form> From another form which has bog-standard file inputs. PHP logs are clean, but var_dumping $_FILES always shows that the index is set to the name of the form element ... but no data. Thanks guys! • Contact form contents spilling out of container div on window resize.

  I'm trying to get my contact form to not spill its contents out of the parent div when I resize the viewport. How can I go about doing this? I have used float clearing to prevent this as I understood it was supposed to be used, but it isn't working. What should I do to fix this? here is the page in question. also I have a similar problem with the header.. the menu drops below the header text if I make the browser window smaller. • What are people's opinions vis-a-vis my choice of authorization plugins?

  I'm slowly but surely putting together my first rails app (first web-app of any kind in fact - I'm not really a programmer) and it's time to set up a user registration/login system. The nature of my app is such that each user will be completely separated from each other user (except for admin roles). When users log in they will have their own unique index page looking at only their data which they and no-one else can ever see or edit. However, I may later want to add a role for a user to be able to view and edit several other user's data (e.g. a group of users may want to allow their secretary to access and edit their data but their secretary would not need any data of their own). My plan is to use authlogic to create the login system and declarative authorization to control permissions but before I embark on this fairly major and crucial task I thought I would canvas a few opinions as to whether this combo was appropriate for the tasks I envisage or whether there would be a better/simpler/faster/cheaper/awesomer option.

• Best way to implement keywords for image upload gallery

  I'm starting to spec out an image gallery type system similar to Facebook's. Members of the site will be able to create image galleries and upload images for others to view. Images will have keywords the the uploader can specify. Here's the question, what's the best way to model this? With image and keyword tables linked vi a HABTM relation? Or a single image table with the keywords saved as comma delimited values in a text field in the image record? Then search them using a LIKE or FULL TEXT index function? I want to be able to pull up all images containing a given keyword as well as generate a keyword cloud. I'm leaning toward the HABTM setup but I wanted to see what everyone else though. Thanks!!

  have funciton in my object which is called regularly. parse : function(html) { var regexp = /...some pattern.../ var match = regexp.exec(html); while (match != null) { ... match = regexp.exec(html); } ... var r = /...pattern.../g; var m = r.exec(html); } with unchanged html the m returns null each other call. let's say parse(html);// ok parse(html);// m is null!!! parse(html);// ok parse(html);// m is null!!! // ...and so on... is there any index or somrthing that has to be reset on html ... I'm really confused. Why match always returns proper result?

• Prepending items in serialscroll

  Hi, I am using serialscroll plugin for jquery by Ariel Flesler. I am trying to make the vertical scroller to have continues loop without reverting back to first item (which is default functionality). To have continues loop of items i tried to append the items which is working fine and able to achieve when i click on "NEXT". However problem seems to be with "Previous" link where i am trying to prepend the items at the top, it is pending the items however changing the visible items. I understand that prepending the items is causing the index of items to change which is normal. So what i am looking for it to keep showing the visible items even when prepending. • Php deliberately awkward?

  I'm trying to create a login process (as people who have answered my previous question will know) But it seems impossible to create one process that will work with a desktop app and a standard website. Instead I have the login function in Usermanagement.php (which is a class, icyntk) but then in another php file (api/login.php) I have: <?php require_once '../usermanagement.php'; $m = new usermanage(); echo $m->login($_POST['username'], $_POST['password']); ?> And then I will still need to make another login.php just to be used with the login form on the website. As I can't see anyway to get the result (the echo) of the api/login.php script from the index.php file (where the login form is, it only has HTML in though) Is there anyway I can simplify this so I only need one login.php?

• Simple File-based Record Storage with Fast Text Searching for Compact Framework and Silverlight

  I have a single table with lots of records ( 100k) that I need to be able to index and search on several text fields. The easiest searches will have the first part of the string specified (eg, LIKE 'ABC%' in SQL). The tougher searches will need to search for any substring within the text fields (eg, LIKE '%ABC%' in SQL). I need to run on the Compact Framework. SQL Compact is a memory hog and overkill for my one table. Besides, I'd like to be able to run on Silverlight 4 eventually. The file and indexes can be generated on the full .NET Framework and I only need read capability on the Compact Framework. My records are not especially large and can be expressed in fix length format. I'm looking for some existing code or libraries to avoid having to write a file-based BTree implementation from scratch.

  Hello, Let's say I've a class myClass which has few properties, such as property1, property2, perperty3, etc. Now, I'd like to populate an array with each of those properties so that, I can access each of them through its index. Is there an automatic way of doing so? Ex: "applications/modules/v1/controllers", "applications/modules/v2/controllers" have different set of actions and functionality. I have made "v1" as the default module in "application.ini" file: resources.modules = "" resources.frontController.defaultModule = "v1" resources.frontController.moduleDirectory = APPLICATION_PATH "/modules" resources.frontController.moduleControllerDirectoryName = "controllers" I have written the following in my bootstrap file: $router = $front->getRouter(); $r1 = new Zend_Controller_Router_Route_Regex('api/v1/tags.xml', array('module' => 'v1', 'controller' => 'tags', 'action' => 'index')); $router->addRoute('route1', $r1); Suppose, if this is my url: http://localhost/api/v1/tags.xml then it belongs to version 1 (v1). But i dont want to write many routes like this one, so i want to know how can i track the version from the regex url and dynamically determine the api version to be used (1 or 2).

• Customizing scrollable plugin with prevpage and nextpage over the image? (see mock up)

  Hi, I am implementing a scrollable for a portfolio gallery. (scrollable = scrollable plugin from http://flowplayer.org/tools/index.html ) There will be one item visible at a time. By default, scrollable positions the prev/next buttons outside of the image area and clicking on the current image advances the scrollable content. I would like to have the prev/next render within the image area. I would like to have an image caption appear when mousing over the lower part of the image.
