  • OpenGL - drawing 2D polygons shapes with texture

    - by plonkplonk
    I am trying to make a few effects in a C+GL game. So far I draw all my sprites as a quad, and it works. However, I am trying to make a large ring appear at times, with a texture following that ring, as it takes less memory than a quad with the ring texture inside. The type of ring I want to make is not a round-shaped GL mesh ring (the "tube" type) but a "paper" 2D ring. That way I can modify the "width" of the ring, getting more of the effect than a simple quad+ring texture. So far all my attempts have been...kind of ridiculous, as I don't understand GL's coordinates too well (and I can't really understand the available documentation...I am just a designer with no coder help or background. A n00b, basically). glBegin(GL_POLYGON); for(i = 0;i < 360; i += 10){ glTexCoord2f(0, 0); glVertex2f(Cos(i)*(H-10),Sin(i)H); glTexCoord2f(0, HP); glVertex2f(Sin(i)(H-10),Cos(i)*(H-10)); glTexCoord2f(WP, HP); glVertex2f(Cos(i)H,Sin(i)(H-10)); glTexCoord2f(WP, 0); glVertex2f(Sin(i)*H,Cos(i)*H); } glEnd(); This is my last attempt, and it seems to generate a "sunburst" from the right edge of the circle instead of a ring. It's an amusing effect but definitely not what I want. Other results included the circle looking exactly the same as the quad textured (aka drawing a sprite literally) or something that looked like a pop-art filter, by working on this train of thought. Seems like my logic here is entirely flawed, so, what would be the easiest way to obtain such a ring? No need to reply in code, just some guidance for a non-math-skilled user...

  • Bitap algorithm in Java [closed]

    The following is the bitap algorithm according to Wikipedia. Can someone translate this to Java? #include <string.h> #include <limits.h> const char *bitap_bitwise_search(const char *text, const char *pattern) { int m = strlen(pattern); unsigned long R; unsigned long pattern_mask[CHAR_MAX+1]; int i; if (pattern[0] == '\0') return text; if (m > 31) return "The pattern is too long!"; /* Initialize the bit array R */ R = ~1; /* Initialize the pattern bitmasks */ for (i=0; i <= CHAR_MAX; ++i) pattern_mask[i] = ~0; for (i=0; i < m; ++i) pattern_mask[pattern[i]] &= ~(1UL << i); for (i=0; text[i] != '\0'; ++i) { /* Update the bit array */ R |= pattern_mask[text[i]]; R <<= 1; if (0 == (R & (1UL << m))) return (text + i - m) + 1; } return NULL; }

  • Javascript - innerHTML not working with HTML select menus

    - by Deacon
    Hi guys, In my HTML page I have 2 select menus with IDs "month" and "day" - "day" is empty when the page loads, "month" has 12 options with values 1-12 corresponding to January - December. "month" has an onchange event which calls this function: function showOutboundDays(month) { if(month==4 || month==6 || month==9 || month==11) document.getElementById('day').innerHTML='<option value="1">1</option><option value="2">2</option>'; etc. up to 30 else if(month==2) document.getElementById('day').innerHTML='<option value="1">1</option>'; etc. up to 28 else document.getElementById('day').innerHTML='<option value="1">1</option>'; etc. up to 31 } (just imagine there are braces around the option tags to help you see...) I think it's pretty clear to see what I'm trying to achieve...and everything works fine apart from the innerHTML of the select with ID "day" doesn't get filled at all, regardless of what month you pick. And I know the problem is with this stage of the function because when I change the if, elseif and else code-to-be-executed to alerts or something similar, it works fine. Does anybody know what the problem with the innerHTML is? Thanks EDIT: Using Firefox 3.6

  • How to quickly generate a new string hash after concatenating 2 strings

    - by philcolbourn
    If my math is right, I can quickly generate a new hash value for the concatenation of two strings if I already have the individual hash values for each string. But only if the hash function is of the form: hash(n) = k * hash(n-1) + c(n), and h(0) = 0. In this case, hash( concat(s1,s2) ) = k**length(s2) * hash(s1) + hash(s2) eg. h1 = makeHash32_SDBM( "abcdef", 6 ); h2 = makeHash32_SDBM( "ghijklmn", 8 ); h12 = makeHash32_SDBM( "abcdefghijklmn", 14 ); hx = mod32_powI( 65599, 8 ) * h1 + h2; h1 = 2534611139 h2 = 2107082500 h12 = 1695963591 hx = 1695963591 Note that h12 = hx so this demonstrates the idea. Now, for the SDBM hash k=65599. Whereas the DJB hash has k=33 (or perhaps 31?) and h(0) = 5381 so to make it work you can set h(0) = 0 instead. But a modification on the DJB hash uses xor instead of + to add each character. http://www.cse.yorku.ca/~oz/hash.html Is there another technique to quickly calculate the hash value of concatenated strings if the hash function uses xor instead of +?

  • Node.js fetching Twitter Streaming API - EADDRNOTAVAIL

However, I cannot get it to work with my code. var https = require('https'); https.request('https://USERNAME:[email protected]/1.1/statuses/sample.json', function(res) { res.on('data', function(chunk) { var d = JSON.parse(chunk); console.log(d); }); }); But I receive the following node.js:201 throw e; // process.nextTick error, or 'error' event on first tick ^ Error: connect EADDRNOTAVAIL at errnoException (net.js:642:11) at connect (net.js:525:18) at Socket.connect (net.js:589:5) at Object.<anonymous> (net.js:77:12) at new ClientRequest (http.js:1073:25) at Object.request (https.js:80:10) at Object.<anonymous> (/Users/jordan/Projects/twitter-stream/app.js:3:7) at Module._compile (module.js:441:26) at Object..js (module.js:459:10) at Module.load (module.js:348:31) If anyone can offer an alternative solution, or explain to me why this doesn't work, I would be very grateful.

  • Simple CalendarStore query puts application into infinite loop!?

    - by Frank R.
    Hi, I've been looking at adding iCal support to my new application and everything seemed just fine and worked on my Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard development machine without a hitch. Now it looks like depending on what is in your calendar the very simple query below: - (NSArray*) fetchCalendarEventsForNext50Minutes { NSLog(@"fetchCalendarEventsForNext50Minutes"); NSTimeInterval start = [NSDate timeIntervalSinceReferenceDate]; NSDate* startDate = [[NSDate alloc] init]; NSDate* endDate = [startDate addTimeInterval: 50.0 * 60.0]; NSPredicate *eventsForTheNext50Minutes = [CalCalendarStore eventPredicateWithStartDate:startDate endDate:endDate calendars:[[CalCalendarStore defaultCalendarStore] calendars]]; // Fetch all events for this year NSArray *events = [[CalCalendarStore defaultCalendarStore] eventsWithPredicate: eventsForTheNext50Minutes]; NSLog( @"fetch took: %f seconds", [NSDate timeIntervalSinceReferenceDate] - start ); return events; } produces a beachball thrash even with quite limited events in the calendar store. Am I missing something crucial here? The code snippet is pretty much exactly from the documentation at: // Create a predicate to fetch all events for this year NSInteger year = [[NSCalendarDate date] yearOfCommonEra]; NSDate *startDate = [[NSCalendarDate dateWithYear:year month:1 day:1 hour:0 minute:0 second:0 timeZone:nil] retain]; NSDate *endDate = [[NSCalendarDate dateWithYear:year month:12 day:31 hour:23 minute:59 second:59 timeZone:nil] retain]; NSPredicate *eventsForThisYear = [CalCalendarStore eventPredicateWithStartDate:startDate endDate:endDate calendars:[[CalCalendarStore defaultCalendarStore] calendars]]; // Fetch all events for this year NSArray *events = [[CalCalendarStore defaultCalendarStore] eventsWithPredicate:eventsForThisYear]; It looks like it has something to do with the recurrence rules, but as far as I can see there are no other ways of fetching events from the calendar store anyway. Has anybody else come across this? Best regards, Frank

  • Access Expression problem: it's too complex, so how do I turn it in to a function?

    - by Mike
    Access 2007 is telling me that my new expression is to complex. It used to work when we had 10 service levels, but now we have 19! Great! I've asked this question in SuperUser and someone suggested I try it over here. Suggestions are I turn it in to a function - but I'm not sure where to begin and what the function would look like. My expression is checking the COST of our services in the [PriceCharged] field and then assigning the appropriate HOURS [Servicelevel] when I perform a calculation to work out how much REVENUE each colleague has made when working for a client. The [EstimatedTime] field stores the actual hours each colleague has worked. [EstimatedTime]/[ServiceLevel]*[PriceCharged] Below is the breakdown of my COST to HOURS expression. I've put them on different lines to make it easier to read - please do not be put off by the length of this post, it's all the same info in the end. Many thanks,Mike ServiceLevel: IIf([pricecharged]=100(COST),6(HOURS), IIf([pricecharged]=200 Or [pricecharged]=210,12.5, IIf([pricecharged]=300,19, IIf([pricecharged]=400 Or [pricecharged]=410,25, IIf([pricecharged]=500,31, IIf([pricecharged]=600,37.5, IIf([pricecharged]=700,43, IIf([pricecharged]=800 Or [pricecharged]=810,50, IIf([pricecharged]=900,56, IIf([pricecharged]=1000,62.5, IIf([pricecharged]=1100,69, IIf([pricecharged]=1200 Or [pricecharged]=1210,75, IIf([pricecharged]=1300 Or [pricecharged]=1310,100, IIf([pricecharged]=1400,125, IIf([pricecharged]=1500,150, IIf([pricecharged]=1600,175, IIf([pricecharged]=1700,200, IIf([pricecharged]=1800,225, IIf([pricecharged]=1900,250,0)))))))))))))))))))

I have 2 static methods that use ecipher and dcipher in order to do what they are supossed to do i need to initialize some variables (which are static also). • Calling function using 'new' is less expensive than without it?

    - by Matthew Taylor
    Given this very familiar model of prototypal construction: function Rectangle(w,h) { this.width = w; this.height = h; } Rectangle.prototype.area = function() { return this.width * this.height; }; Can anyone explain why calling "new Rectangle(2,3)" is consistently 10x FASTER than calling "Rectangle(2,3)" without the 'new' keyword? I would have assumed that because new adds more complexity to the execution of a function by getting prototypes involved, it would be slower. Example: var myTime; function startTrack() { myTime = new Date(); } function stopTrack(str) { var diff = new Date().getTime() - myTime.getTime(); println(str + ' time in ms: ' + diff); } function trackFunction(desc, func, times) { var i; if (!times) times = 1; startTrack(); for (i=0; i<times; i++) { func(); } stopTrack('(' + times + ' times) ' + desc); } var TIMES = 1000000; trackFunction('new rect classic', function() { new Rectangle(2,3); }, TIMES); trackFunction('rect classic (without new)', function() { Rectangle(2,3); }, TIMES); Yields (in Chrome): (1000000 times) new rect classic time in ms: 33 (1000000 times) rect classic (without new) time in ms: 368 (1000000 times) new rect classic time in ms: 35 (1000000 times) rect classic (without new) time in ms: 374 (1000000 times) new rect classic time in ms: 31 (1000000 times) rect classic (without new) time in ms: 368

This enables animation, styling, binding, etc... public static readonly DependencyProperty SelectedTextProperty = DependencyProperty.RegisterAttached( "SelectedText", typeof(string), typeof(TextBoxHelper), new FrameworkPropertyMetadata(null, FrameworkPropertyMetadataOptions.BindsTwoWayByDefault, SelectedTextChanged)); private static void SelectedTextChanged(DependencyObject obj, DependencyPropertyChangedEventArgs e) { TextBox tb = obj as TextBox; if (tb != null) { if (e.OldValue == null && e.NewValue != null) { tb.SelectionChanged += tb_SelectionChanged; } else if (e.OldValue != null && e.NewValue == null) { tb.SelectionChanged -= tb_SelectionChanged; } string newValue = e.NewValue as string; if (newValue != null && newValue != tb.SelectedText) { tb.SelectedText = newValue as string; } } } static void tb_SelectionChanged(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { TextBox tb = sender as TextBox; if (tb != null) { SetSelectedText(tb, tb.SelectedText); } } #endregion } What am I doing wrong?

  • Using one mixin from LESS within another mixin

    - by user1165984
    I am trying to use a mix that calculates the base line height in another that contains my base font styles. Each time I try to compile, I get an error. Here is an example. .lineHeight(@sizeValue){ @remValue: @sizeValue; @pxValue: (@sizeValue * 10); line-height: ~"@{pxValue}px"; line-height: ~"@{remValue}rem"; } .baseFont(@weight: normal, @size: 14px, @lineHeight: (.lineHeight(2.1)) { font-family: @fontFamily; font-size: @size; font-weight: @weight; line-height: @lineHeight; } The error is: TypeError: Cannot call method 'charAt' of undefined at getLocation (/Applications/CodeKit.app/Contents/Resources/engines/less/lib/less/parser.js:212:34) at new LessError (/Applications/CodeKit.app/Contents/Resources/engines/less/lib/less/parser.js:221:19) at Object.toCSS (/Applications/CodeKit.app/Contents/Resources/engines/less/lib/less/parser.js:385:31) at /Applications/CodeKit.app/Contents/Resources/engines/less/bin/lessc:107:28 at /Applications/CodeKit.app/Contents/Resources/engines/less/lib/less/parser.js:434:40 at /Applications/CodeKit.app/Contents/Resources/engines/less/lib/less/parser.js:94:48 at /Applications/CodeKit.app/Contents/Resources/engines/less/lib/less/index.js:116:17 at /Applications/CodeKit.app/Contents/Resources/engines/less/lib/less/parser.js:434:40 at /Applications/CodeKit.app/Contents/Resources/engines/less/lib/less/parser.js:94:48 at /Applications/CodeKit.app/Contents/Resources/engines/less/lib/less/index.js:116:17

  • Pseudo code for instruction description

    - by Claus
    Hi, I am just trying to fiddle around what is the best and shortest way to describe two simple instructions with C-like pseudo code. The extract instruction is defined as follows: extract rd, rs, imm This instruction extracts the appropriate byte from the 32-bit source register rs and right justifies it in the destination register. The byte is specified by imm and thus can take the values 0 (for the least-significant byte) and 3 (for the most-significant byte). rd = 0x0; // zero-extend result, ie to make sure bits 31 to 8 are set to zero in the result rd = (rs && (0xff << imm)) >> imm; // this extracts the approriate byte and stores it in rd The insert instruction can be regarded as the inverse operation and it takes a right justified byte from the source register rs and deposits it in the appropriate byte of the destination register rd; again, this byte is determined by the value of imm tmp = 0x0 XOR (rs << imm)) // shift the byte to the appropriate byte determined by imm rd = (rd && (0x00 << imm)) // set appropriate byte to zero in rd rd = rd XOR tmp // XOR the byte into the destination register This looks all a bit horrible, so I wonder if there is a little bit a more elegant way to describe this bahaviour in C-like style ;) Many thanks, Claus

  • Publish failed using Ant publisher (Eclipse/datanucleus).

    - by aronp
    Dear All, I am being driven mad the following (apparently hard) error from eclipse. Publish failed using Ant publisher Resource is out of sync with the file system: '/MyServlet/build/classes/com/inver/hotzones/database/BaseNetworkData.class'. I have seen comments on similar errors where refreshing eclipses view of the project helps but it is not helping me. Have tried cleaning the project, removing it from the webserver, deleting war files but cant seem to clear it. I have reset my TMPDIR variable so that it uses a directory on the same filesystem as that appeared to be another possible cause. The error occurs on classes which have been enhanced by datanuculeus. I have auto-enhance on the project. The other references to this problem indicate that it is due to Eclipses view of the project being out of step with the filesystem, and I am guessing that this has something to do with thedata nucleus enhancement. Any ideas? Thanks. I am using Eclipse 3.5.2 with latest datanucleus pluggins. • What's the best way to annotate this ggplot2 plot? [R]

    - by Matt Parker
    Here's a plot: library(ggplot2) ggplot(mtcars, aes(x = factor(cyl), y = hp, group = factor(am), color = factor(am))) + stat_smooth(fun.data = "mean_cl_boot", geom = "pointrange") + stat_smooth(fun.data = "mean_cl_boot", geom = "line") + geom_hline(yintercept = 130, color = "red") + annotate("text", label = "130 hp", x = .22, y = 135, size = 4) I've been experimenting with labeling the geom_hline in a few different ways, each of which does something I want but has a problem that the other methods don't have. annotate(), used above, is nice - the text is resizeable, black, and easy to position. But it can only be placed within the plot itself, not outside the plot like the axis labels. It also makes an "a" appear in the legend, which I can't dismiss with legend = FALSE. legend = FALSE works with geom_text, but I can't get geom_text to just be black - it seems to be getting tangled up in the line colorings. grid.text lets me put the text anywhere I want, but I can't seem to resize it. I can definitely accept the text being inside of the plot area, but I'd like to keep the legend clean. I feel like I'm missing something simple, but I'm just fried. Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Below is my function function nrk($duty,$page,$position) { $url="http://www.test.com/people.php?q=$duty&start=$page"; $ch=curl_init(); curl_setopt($ch,CURLOPT_URL,$url); $result=curl_exec($ch); $dom = new DOMDocument(); @$dom->loadHTML($result); $xpath=new DOMXPath($dom); $elements = $xpath->evaluate("//div"); foreach ($elements as $element) { $name = $element->getElementsByTagName("name")->item(0)->nodeValue; $position=$position+1; echo $name." Position:".$position."<br>"; } return $position; } Below is the for loop where i try to loop thru the page count for ($page=0;$page<=$pageNumb;$page=$page + 10) { nrk($duty,$page,$position); } I dont want to maintain a array key value in the for each coz i drop certain names...

  • Linq 2 SQL Store inherited classes - not mapped to tables in the database

    - by user348672
    Hi. I'm trying to introduce the Linq2SQL technique into the project and have encountered the following issue: I've created ORM classes based on the Northwind database. In some other application I create several classes derived from the Linq2SQL classes. I'm able to add such a class to EntitySet but the application fails to submit changes. Is there any way around this? Sample code(MyClass is derived from the Order): DataClasses1DataContext northwind = new DataClasses1DataContext(); Product chai = northwind.Products.Single(p => p.ProductName == "Chai"); Product tofu = northwind.Products.Single(p => p.ProductName == "Tofu"); Order myOrder = new Order(); myOrder.OrderDate = DateTime.Now; myOrder.RequiredDate = DateTime.Now.AddDays(1); myOrder.Freight = 34; Order_Detail myItem1 = new Order_Detail(); myItem1.Product = chai; myItem1.Quantity = 12345; Order_Detail myItem2 = new Order_Detail(); myItem2.Product = tofu; myItem2.Quantity = 3; myOrder.Order_Details.Add(myItem1); myOrder.Order_Details.Add(myItem2); Customer myCustomer = northwind.Customers.Single(c => c.CompanyName == "B's Beverages"); MyClass newOrder = new MyClass(); newOrder.OrderDate = DateTime.Now; newOrder.RequiredDate = DateTime.Now.AddDays(31); newOrder.Freight = 35; Order_Detail myItem3 = new Order_Detail(); myItem3.Product = tofu; myItem3.Quantity = 3; newOrder.Order_Details.Add(myItem3); myCustomer.Orders.Add(myOrder); myCustomer.Orders.Add(newOrder); As I said I'm able to add the newOrder object but unable to submit into the database.
