  • Question about software that tracks divs better than notepad++

    I recently got hired as a web developer, and the project that I am overseeing has a formatting issue on one of the pages because one of the divs is out of whack. It is a fairly complex page with quite a bit of php, and from what I can gather, I am missing a </div> tag somewhere, and accordingly everything is messed up. I am currently using notepad++, which is decent at lining up divs, meaning that if you click on the opening div tag, it will highlight purple and also highlight the closing one. But it seems as though if you have div tags that span several lines (hundreds) it won't work. Has anyone else run into a similar situation? Is there a better editor I could be using that would do a better job of helping me with my div issue? Or do I have to go through and line up the divs 1 by 1? (there are like over 100).     According to the java API, the constructor Date(year, month, day) is depreciated. I know that I can replace it with the following code: Calendar myCal = Calendar.getInstance(); myCal.set(Calendar.YEAR, theYear); myCal.set(Calendar.MONTH, theMonth); myCal.set(Calendar.DAY_OF_MONTH, theDay); Date theDate = myCal.getTime(); However, I would like something shorter to replace it with (ideally one-two lines). Any suggestions?

  • Cannot Resize DIV to anything smaller than maximum width

    Quick CSS Question. I cannot seem to figure out a very simple CSS/HTML problem. Here's a JSFiddle. http://jsfiddle.net/BmM6t/ Basically, these two divs are not resizing to anything less than 100% width: <div id="main_pic" class="main_div"> THIS IS WHERE THE MAIN PIC WILL GO. </div> <div id="signin" class="main_div"> SIGN IN TO THE SITE! <form> <label for="name">EMAIL/USERNAME:</label> <input type="text" name="name" id="name"> <label for="email">PASSWORD:</label> <input type="text" name="email" id="email"> <br /> <input type="submit" value="Let's Play!"> </form> </div> You'll see that the two divs with class main_div actually take up the entire width of the screen for some reason (you can see that if you inspect the element) even though their widths are clearly written. When you try to change the width of one of the main_div's it changes the width but if you inspect the element, it just changes the width of the object and adds padding around it to make sure it still takes up the entire width of the screen. I'm sure it's some little error I've made but I can't find it. Thanks for the help!

  • Python command line - add PYTHONPATH during module run

    I want to run: python somescript.py somecommand But, when I run this I need PYTHONPATH to include a certain directory. I can't just add it to my environment variables because the directory I want to add changes based on what project I'm running. Is there a way to alter PYTHONPATH while running a script? Note: I don't even have a PYTHONPATH variable, so I don't need to worry about appending to it vs overriding it during running of this script.

  • Generating HTML Programmatically in C#, Targeting Printed Reports

    I've taken over a C# (2.0) code base that has the ability to print information. The code to do this is insanely tedious. Elements are drawn onto each page, with magic constants representing positioning. I imagine the programmer sitting with a ruler, designing each page by measuring and typing in the positions. And yes, one could certainly come up with some nice abstractions to make this approach rational. But I am looking at a different method. The idea is that I'll replace the current code that prints with code that generates static HTML pages, saves them to a file, and then launches the web browser on that file. The most obvious benefit is that I don't have to deal with formatting-- I can let the web browser do that for me with tags and CSS. So what I am looking for is a very lightweight set of classes that I can use to help generate HTML. I don't need anything as heavyweight as HTMLTextWriter. What I'm looking for is something to avoid fragments like this: String.Format("<tr><td>{0}</td><td>{1}</td></tr>", foo, bar); And instead take have this kind of feel: ... table(). tr(). td(foo). td(bar) Or something like that. I've seen lightweight classes like that for other languages but can't find the equivalent (or better) for C#. I can certainly write it myself, but I'm a firm believer in not reinventing wheels. Know anything like this? Know anything better than this?

  • Making a Delete and Reply button in Jquery

    this is my second post on the website. Of all other sites i tried, this one gave the most accurate and useful information! I'm in a bit of a trouble with buttons, i have a task to make an inbox and to add a "reply" and "delete" button into every instance of the message. I was indeed wandering if there is a better way to do that than forcing the HTML code into the script, because every message is dynamically generated.   • Problems with viewing site in Internet Exploder

    I built a site and I'm just about finished. It displays properly in all the browsers I have (Safari, Chrome, and Firefox) but my client is not computer savvy at all and still uses Internet Explorer, so that's all he's using to view the site. I don't have IE to test the site so I've been using BrowserStack.com and I see in IE that the site is broken. The navigation bar has a white background and is pushed down a line, and the logo isn't appearing. Could anybody please assist me with figuring out why the site isn't displaying properly in IE, and how to fix it? Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Site: WebuildCAhomes dot com

  • What is the proper way to wait a script loaded completely before another

    I am making a website that is divided by several sections <div id='section-1' class='section'>web content</div> <div id='section-2' class='section'>web content</div> I have like ten sections on my webpage ,each sections height is set to the user window height when document is ready by javascript $('.section').height($(window).height()); Some effects like slideshows on my webpage require the calculated height of the section in order to work properly. Therefore I always use something like this at document ready as a solution. setTimeout(startslideshow,1000); setTimeout(startanimations,1000); ...etc To make sure the section height is the user window height before the slideshow's code start because the sections cannot change to user window height instantly once the webpage loaded will generate serious problems in my slideshow code,like wrong calculated positions. Therefore there will be a situation that's after the page loaded, there will be about a second everything is messed up,before everything can works properly, how could I avoid that being seen by the user? I tried to $(document).hide(),or $('html,body').hide(), then fade in after a second,but I get other weird problems, especially on ipad,my fixed position top navigation bar will always become 'not fixed' while user is scrolling. As I am a self-learner, I afraid my method is not typical. I want to know what is the common ways of real web programmers usually do when they have to divide his webpage into different sections and set its height to window height , then make sure the other effects that's depends on the section height works properly and avoid to wait the height change for a second?

  • Shouldn't we ignore IE6 and IE7 users?

    Lately I created two webpages with a simple CMS for a a small club and a private person (http://foto.roser.li and http://www.ovlu.li/cms). I dont really understand much of HTML/PHP/CSS and all this web stuff, but it was enough to adapt the stylesheets and add some javascript functions and so on to make the pages to look more or less nice in firefox and IE8. Nevertheles, if you open the pages with IE7 or IE6, particulary the second home page really looks terrible. So what should I do know? I don't have the know-how to adapt the stylesheets so that it looks good at such browsers. However if I check the statistics of the pages, i noticed that almost half of the visitors uses this kind of browsers. I could put much effort in adapting the stylesheets to look good at all browser but while thinking about this I'm asking myself if this is really the best way. If all developers put effort in providing solutions for really old browsers (like e.g. the IE6), then people who use these brwoser dont have any incentives to update their browsers. Naturally, I as a provider of information should present the content in a readable form to my users, but were should i draw the line? I also saw that some users are visiting the pages with even IE5 or IE4... but I really can't think of a way how to adapt the content in a suitable form for these very old brwosers. I would appreciaed any hints how to handle this balancing between putting much effort into developing a version for very old brwosers and the necessity of providing content to all users which want to visits my homepages. Im also interested in your thoughts about they idea that putting effort in adapting the content for old browsers prevents the users from updating their browsres because they don't see any need.

    I am trying to retreive the stored value (div id) of an index stored in var "current" when it's div is clicked, so I can use it in a function to iterate through to the next index later.   • How do I force a DIV block to extend to the bottom of a page even if it has no content?

The reason I want to do this is so the vertical border still appears down the page even if there isn't any content to display.     I have few buttons on my jsp page and I am using the style as : .buttonblue { background-color: #003366; border-color: #99CCFF; color: #FFFFFF; font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica; font-size: 8pt; font-weight: bold; height: 20px; display:inline; line-height: 1.2; text-align: center; margin-top: 2px; } In Firefox the buttons are bit smaller than IE6. I can not define the size of buttons as the caption changes the button size changes accordingly. I tried with width:auto but no success. Also, with overflow:visible the buttons in IE becomes bit smaller. Please help.

    I have a long list of li's. <ul> <li> <img src="test.jpg"> </li> <li> <img src="test.jpg"> </li> //etc Each li has this styling: width: 10%; display: inline-block; vertical-align: middle; When I get to more than 10 li's in a row, they go on to the next row. Is this the correct way to do it? or should I wrap each 10 li's into something that breaks the line? What the best/correct method? i intialy chose this method as it would be easily to loop out data from a database.

  • height: auto does not work to automatically resize header

    I'm trying to do a simple thing in CSS I have a header tag and inside that a couple of h tags. So, in order to have a responsive design I do height:auto; inside the header tag, so it will automatically stretch to contain the h tags. Right? But does not work, headeris just a line in the top of the page. t should stretch to contain the titles, right? What am I missing? Is it a good practice to put CSS in the h tags and not style header at all? So h tags will be like the header in user's eye? Thanks in advence Check it here

    I am attempting to run a JUnit Test from a Java Class with: JUnitCore core = new JUnitCore(); core.addListener(new RunListener()); core.run(classToRun); Problem is my JUnit test requires a database connection that is currently hardcoded in the JUnit test itself. What I am looking for is a way to run the JUnit test programmatically(above) but pass a database connection to it that I create in my Java Class that runs the test, and not hardcoded within the JUnit class. Basically something like JUnitCore core = new JUnitCore(); core.addListener(new RunListener()); core.addParameters(java.sql.Connection); core.run(classToRun); Then within the classToRun: @Test Public void Test1(Connection dbConnection){ Statement st = dbConnection.createStatement(); ResultSet rs = st.executeQuery("select total from dual"); rs.next(); String myTotal = rs.getString("TOTAL"); //btw my tests are selenium testcases:) selenium.isTextPresent(myTotal); } I know about The @Parameters, but it doesn't seem applicable here as it is more for running the same test case multiple times with differing values. I want all of my test cases to share a database connection that I pass in through a configuration file to my java client that then runs those test cases (also passed in through the configuration file). Is this possible? P.S. I understand this seems like an odd way of doing things.

  • Overriding CSS style 'display:none' in javascript

    I'm trying to add a checkbox toggle that hides and shows list elements by changing their style display attribute from "none" to "inline", but it's not working. I'm setting the attribute's style to "display:none" in the CSS file. Then I set it to "display:inline" in javascript when someone checks a box. The javascript is successfully changing the element's property to inline, but for some reason the element remains invisible. If I do the opposite, by setting the display to inline in the CSS and overriding it to none in the javascript, it works fine. I don't see why this would work one way but not the other. I'm using chrome. Here is the code. Any feedback is appreciated.
