Safari Extension - How to respond to Settings changes?

Hi, I'm currently working on an Extension for Safari 5 and I want to run a listener function whenever Settings changes are made. Apple provides an example for that, but it doesn't work for me. I currently have this listener function in my global html file: function numberChanged() { if(event.key == "number") alert("Number has changed!"); } safari.self.addEventListener("change", numberChanged, false); I hope somebody can help me. PHP Curl and Loop based on a numeric value

Im using the Twitter API to collect the number of tweets I've favorited, well to be accurate the total pages of favorited tweets. I use this URL: http://api.twitter.com/1/users/show/username.xml I grab the XML element 'favorites_count' For this example lets assume favorites_count=5 The Twitter API uses this URL to get the favorties: http://twitter.com/favorites.xml (Must be authenticated) You can only get the last 20 favorties using this URL, however you can alter the URL to include a 'page' option by adding: ?page=3 to the end of the favorites URL e.g. http://twitter.com/favorites.xml?page=2 So what I need to do is use CURL (I think) to collect the favorite tweets, but using the URL: http://twitter.com/favorites.xml?page=1 http://twitter.com/favorites.xml?page=2 http://twitter.com/favorites.xml?page=3 http://twitter.com/favorites.xml?page=4 etc... Some kind of loop to visit each URL, and collect the Tweets and then output the cotents. Can anyone help with this: - Need to use CURL to authenticate - Collect the number of pages of tweets (Already scripted this) - Then use a loop to go through each page URL based on the pages value?

Adjusting the Score on Oracle Text search results

When you sort the results of a search by Score using OracleTextSearch as the search engine in WebCenter Content, the results coming back are based on the relevancy on the document. In theory, the more relevant the search term is to the document, the higher ranked Score it should receive. But in practice, the relevancy score can seem somewhat of a mystery. It's not entirely clear how it ranks the importance of some documents over others based on the search term. And often times, once a word appears a certain number of times within a document, the Score simply maxes out at 100 and the top results can be difficult to discern from one another. Gmail-like labelling system

Hi I am looking into a number of ways to implement a labelling system similar to the one in Gmail. Basically I have a Resource at the lowest level and I would like to provide a number of organisational groupings for that resource in the form of labels. If anyone has implemented something like that I would like to hear your views. My idea is to have within the Resource instance a List<Label>. Overuse of guards in Erlang?

Hi, I have the following function that takes a number like 5 and creates a list of all the numbers from 1 to that number so create(5). returns [1,2,3,4,5]. I have over used guards I think and was wondering if there is a better way to write the following: create(N) -> create(1, N). create(N,M) when N =:= M -> [N]; create(N,M) when N < M -> [N] ++ create(N + 1, M). How do i create an array of unequal length arrays?

Hello everyone, I need to create a sort of 2D array in which each one of the secondary arrays are of different length. I have a 1D array of known length (which defines the number of arrays to be formed) with each element having a number that denotes the length of the secondary array in that position. Each one of the arrays are fairly large so i don't want to create a one-size-fits-all "fake" 2D heap array to cover everything. How would i go about doing this? Any 2D array I have made before are always rectangular. I'm trying to do this so that i can create some code to dynamically generate threads to split up some workload. Thanks, -Faken

Are there any formalized/mathematical theories of software testing?

Googling "software testing theory" only seems to give theories in the soft sense of the word; I have not been able to find anything that would classify as a theory in the mathematical, information theoretical or some other scientific field's sense. What I'm looking for is something that formalizes what testing is, the notions used, what a test case is, the feasibility of testing something, the practicality of testing something, the extent to which something should be tested, formal definition/explanation of code coverage, etc. UPDATE: Also, I'm not sure, intuitively, about the connection between formal verification and what I asked, but there's clearly some sort of connection.

ASP.NET Excel Export formatting question

Hey Guys, I've been banging my head on the wall over this issue for a couple days now and I need some help. I'm creating an excel file using ASP.net and everything is going just fine except one column has to be formatted as a decimal to 2 places but when it pulls into excel, excel automatically formats it as a whole number instead of keeping the decimal places. sw.Write(String.Format("{0:f}", CDbl(dr(14)).ToString("0.00"))) this produces "20.00" but when I open it in excel it's displayed as 20...if I select the whole column and format it as a number it gets displayed as 20.00 like it's supposed to but I don't want to have to do this (I can't do that) the file is supposed to be automatically picked up and imported into another system that needs the column to be a decimal. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

PHP: Coding long-running scripts when servers impose an execution time limit

FastCGI servers, for example, impose an execution time limit on PHP scripts which cannot be altered using set_time_limit() in PHP. IIS does this too I believe. I wrote an import script for a PHP application that works well under mod_php but fails under FastCGI (mod_fcgid) because the script is killed after a certain number of seconds. I don't yet know of a way of detecting what your time limit is in this case, and haven't decided how I'm going to get around it. Doing it in small chunks with redirects seems like one kludge, but how? What techniques would you use when coding a long-running task such as an import or export task, where an individual PHP script may be terminated by the server after a certain number of seconds? Please assume you're creating a portable script, so you don't necessarily know whether PHP will eventually be run under mod_php, FastCGI or IIS or whether a maximum execution time is enforced at the server level.

How do you find out release, mailing list statistics information on open source projects

We are interested in finding out some statistics of various frameworks Mailing list activity on say richfaces. Much similar to what is available on http://code.google.com (Low, Medium, High) + average number of emails per day | per month. Number of releases made in a year including patch, minor, major releases. We did look at the maven repositories but that wasn't very useful either. We did look at ohloh, but didn't get the desired information. Any other ideas on where to get this information (any maven-2 plugins)?

How to implement filter system in SQL?

Right now I am planning to add a filter system to my site. Examples: (ID=apple, COLOR=red, TASTE=sweet, ORIGIN=US) (ID=mango, COLOR=yellow, TASTE=sweet, ORIGIN=MEXICO) (ID=banana, COLOR=yellow, TASTE=bitter-sweet, ORIGIN=US) so now I am interested in doing the following: SELECT ID FROM thisTable WHERE COLOR='yellow' AND TASTE='SWEET' But my problem is I am doing this for multiple categories in my site, and the columns are NOT consistent. (like if the table is for handphones, then it will be BRAND, 3G-ENABLED, PRICE, COLOR, WAVELENGTH, etc) how could I design a general schema that allows this? Right now I am planning on doing: table(ID, KEY, VALUE) This allows arbitary number of columns, but for the query, I am using SELECT ID FROM table WHERE (KEY=X1 AND VALUE=V1) AND (KEY=X2 AND VALUE=V2), .. which returns an empty set. Can someone recommend a good solution to this? Note that the number of columns WILL change regularly

Unable to run OpenMPI across more than two machines

When attempting to run the first example in the boost::mpi tutorial, I was unable to run across more than two machines. Specifically, this seemed to run fine: mpirun -hostfile hostnames -np 4 boost1 with each hostname in hostnames as <node_name> slots=2 max_slots=2. But, when I increase the number of processes to 5, it just hangs. I have decreased the number of slots/max_slots to 1 with the same result when I exceed 2 machines. On the nodes, this shows up in the job list: <user> Ss orted --daemonize -mca ess env -mca orte_ess_jobid 388497408 \ -mca orte_ess_vpid 2 -mca orte_ess_num_procs 3 -hnp-uri \ 388497408.0;tcp://<node_ip>:48823 Additionally, when I kill it, I get this message: node2- daemon did not report back when launched node3- daemon did not report back when launched The cluster is set up with the mpi and boost libs accessible on an NFS mounted drive. Am I running into a deadlock with NFS? Or, is something else going on?

Why does Python's math.factorial not play nice with threads?

Why does math.factorial act so weird in a thread? Here is an example, it creates three threads: thread that just sleeps for a while thread that increments an int for a while thread that does math.factorial on a large number. It calls start on the threads, then join with a timeout The sleep and spin threads work as expected and return from start right away, and then sit in the join for the timeout. LibreOffice Writer Error due to a lock file

Every time I try to open a word document I get this error. LibreOffice 3.5 Either another instance of LibreOffice is accessing your personal settings or your personal settings are locked. Simultaneous access can lead to inconsistencies in your personal settings. Before continuing, you should make sure user "closes LibreOffice on host". Do you want to continue? I've been onto different forums to find out a remedy but nothing yet. I've recently done a fresh install of 12.04 (64bit) and have been having some issues with different programs and have been able to work through most of them but this one, I'm lost.

Counting consecutive items within MS SQL

Got a problem with a query I'm trying to write. I have a table that lists people that have been sent an email. There is a bit column named Active which is set to true if they have responded. But I need to count the number of consecutive emails the person has been inactive since either their first email or last active email. For example, this basic table shows one person has been sent 9 emails. They have been active within two of the emails (3 & 5). So their inactive count would be 4 as we are counting from email number 6 onwards. PersonID(int) EmailID(int) Active(bit) 1 1 0 1 2 0 1 3 1 1 4 0 1 5 1 1 6 0 1 7 0 1 8 0 1 9 0 Any pointers or help would be great. Regards Greg

I'm not 100% on how to do this so i'm asking... May seem stupid but... How do I convert a string into an integer? Background info: I have a textbox I have the user enter a number into... it then: EditText et = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.entry1); String hello = et.getText().toString(); gets the string 'hello' Now I want to convert it to a integer so I can get the number they typed in -will be used later on in code... Is there a way to get the edittext to a integer? -That would skip the middle man... If not, string to integer will be just fine... Thanks alot, James

Discussion: Working TDD in a Scrum context

Hi all, When I work TDD I tend to start out with the big picture and create the tests that should succeed in order for the overall assignment to be completed - it then kicks off a number of supporting classes/methods/tests as I 'dig in'. If my assignment has been planned out in detail, I would then open one task, and in order to solve it, open another and then another. Only when the overall tests are succeeding can I close the original task, which means that at any given time, I would have a number of open tasks. I find that this approach conflict somewhat with the scrum approach where, ideally, I should be able to take and close a task within a day's work - and never have more than one task open at a time. I'm looking for input about how you manage this in your project - references to articles are also very welcome, I'm sure this has been debated thoroughly somewhere... Image processing in a multhithreaded mode using Java

Hi Folks, I am supposed to process images in a multithreaded mode using Java. I may having varying number of images where as my number of threads are fixed. I have to process all the images using the fixed set of threads. I am just stuck up on how to do it, I had a look ThreadExecutor and BlockingQueues etc...I am still not clear. What I am doing is, - Get the images and add them in a LinkedBlockingQueue which has runnable code of the image processor. - Create a threadpoolexecutor for which one of the arguements is the LinkedBlockingQueue earlier. - Iterate through a for loop till the queue size and do a threadpoolexecutor.execute(linkedblockingqueue.poll). - all i see is it processes only 100 images which is the minimum thread size passed in LinkedBlockingQueue size. I see I am seriously wrong in my understanding somewhere, how do I process all the images in sets of 100(threads) until they are all done? Any examples or psuedocodes would be highly helpful Thanks!
