  Our company has a dilemma that I am hoping the users of Pro WebMasters can help us with. Right now as it stands we create a seperate website for each product that we sell. We also have our corporate site which lists each of these brands. For Example: www.Apple.com < --- main company site www.Ipad.com <--- Product www.Iphone.com <--- Product www.Imac.com <-- Product We are looking to build a wordpress blog mainly for the purpose of increasing our SEO rank. Here are our two options: SINGLE BLOG - On Our Corporate Domain http://apple.com/blog Each post is categoried http://apple.com/category/ipad/ipad-5-realeasd.htm Easier to manage than multiple blogs More content since its listing about all our products. ONE BLOG PER PRODUCT - on each site http://ipad.com/blog Each product has its own blog with only its own articles Harder to manage, but does it benefit SEO? Can the team here tell me the SEO benefits of either approach? Similar to Apple all the products our company sells are loosely related. Although its not likely that a customer of product A would be interested in product B.

• Google Chrome for Mac, CSS colors and display profiles

  So, I'm aware that some browsers correct the colors in images in accordance with system settings, and that browsers differ in how they do this. But I'm very surprised when a color specified in a stylesheet appears different from one browser to another on the same system. With the latest Safari and Firefox, if I draw a div with background: #885500, I get a box with that color (as confirmed by the native DigitalColor Meter app): But when I load the same page in Chrome (Mac version 12.0.742.91) on the same system, a MacBook Pro with the default "Color LCD" display profile set, I get a noticeably different-colored box (DigitalColor Meter reports #a34d00—much more red, a bit less green): I tried a few different color profiles, and found that the color reported by DigitalColor Meter changed under Chrome. It stays constant in Safari. What's going on? Is it that Chrome is adjusting its colors depending on the system's display profile, or is it that Safari and Firefox are doing so? Does this happen under other operating systems, or is it purely a Mac phenomenon? And is there any way, from CSS/JavaScript, to detect/prevent this behavior so that colors are consistent across modern browsers on the same system?

  [I originally posted on SO but it earned me a Tumbleweed badge. This looks like a better venue for the question.] I have Apache (XAMPP 1.8.0) running on Vista Pro x64. A couple times now I have seen a pattern like the example below in access.log. Concerning is the "attack" seems to somehow shift from a public IP to a valid private IP on my network (happens to be the WAN address of one of my routers). Two questions: How is this possible, and what happens if the "attacker" stumbles on a valid request? • In Google Webmaster Tools we have 3 sitemaps attributed to 1 domain

  Thanks for you advice and help ahead of time I have a website that has been on the internet for almost 10 years created in "Microsoft Frontpage" with over 900 pages. Currently in Google Webmaster tools it shows up as 2 domains and 3 sitemaps: http://www.example.com example.com hostedsitmaps.com Furthermore, since we were having hard to placing the xml sitemap on our site(Frontpage Issues) we decided to hire pro-sitemaps.com to create, host and upload the xml file which they did. Thus, I have another site hostedsitemaps.com on our webmaster tools for the site. Hosted sitemaps shows: 900 urls submitted 800 Indexed. Crawl errors and Search queries: No data available http://www.example.com shows: 889 URLs submitted 1 URLs indexed. Crawl Errors: 14 Soft 404 796 Not found Search Queries: 8104 example.com shows: 889 URLs submitted 1 URLs indexed Crawl errors: 48 Soft 404 91 Not found Search Queries: 8104 My questions and need for help are as followed: 1. Why are our domain based sites in webmaster tools ( example.com and http:www.example.com) showing only 1 URL indexed while the hostedsitemap has 800 indexed? 2. Should we have 3 domains configured for this "one" domain in Google Webmaster tools? 3. Should we eliminate/delete the hostedsitemap from webmaster tools completely and take off that XML sitemap? 4 Does having example.com and http://www.example.com impact web ranking? 5. • Need help with cybersquatting complaint: can a domain name forward AND resolve at same time? [on hold]

  Probably a silly question for you pros... but for this novice here, I just want to make sure my understanding is correct. Context: I am trying to prove that a domain name owner has been cybersquatting and has never used the domain name in question. There are 4 shots from WayBackMachine over a three-year period that show the domain name resolving to a basic server index page with either no files or a single cgi-bin folder. The domain name owner claims, however, that the domain name was forwarded over the entire time from to another website, and that these captures probably coincided with occasional "outages." It is my understanding that: a) domain name forwarding is binary: if a domain name is forwarded to a valid site, it cannot simultaneously resolve to a valid IP address. Is this correct? b) domain name forwarding is not subject to "outages": servers can have outages, and websites can be down, but the forwarding itself cannot be down, as this is simply a pointer. (Or, the entire registrar where the DNS settings are hosted would have to malfunction. Is this correct? FINALLY, bonus question for pro webmasters: What is the likelihood that the WayBackMachine would capture the domain name on just those occasions when the webmaster disabled forwarding to supposedly work on the new site? Basically the nucleaus would be the CMS which would integrate all the other apps. PHP or .Net based solutions would be our preferences as have inhouse expertise.   I started a Wordpress site for my blog but now I want to start another domain for sharing my photos. I used to use Flickr but it requires you to sign up for Flickr Pro if you want to upload over a certain amount of photos. Since I don't want to pay for that, I'm looking to create a photo gallery site like this: http://10mmgalore.com/ or http://www.shuttermaki.com/ But how do you go about with that? Would I be able to install Wordpress and find a theme like that? And/Or are there any Wordpress plugins that I can install to make it like look like that? Or do I need different tools and platforms asides from Wordpress? So can someone list the features, tools and information that I need to make a photo gallery site? The main functions that I want for my site is to have a picture in the middle and when the user clicks on the photo, it goes to the next photo; or there are left and right arrows that users can click to the next photo. I just want to create an album website for my 365 days project (a photo a day). It doesn't have to be as fancy as the sites mentioned above. Thank you!

I'm seeking a concise descriptor that is useful in conversation and definitive as a search term, in whole-web searches, and searching here on Pro Webmasters. Q2: what term best describes the individual content files? Same general goals for the descriptor as above. As you see above, I couldn't avoid using the term "headerless html", my best choice. But this term does not seem to be in general use. I've found some people use this term to describe such as my content files, but others use it quite differently.

  I work in tech, but am on the business side. I have a WordPress site that I would like to move to a personal server and associate with a new domain name. I already have a server (actually, a friend is letting me use his) and the domain name. A friend-of-a-friend, who claims to be an IT pro, has agreed to help, but now is asking for what feels like a lot of money for what he says is a pretty time-intensive job. This doesn't sound right to me, so I thought I would ask here: Would it take months or even days to move the content, and why would it have to be moved in stages? The blog currently uses a basic template and has about 1000 posts. How much effort is really involved in moving a WordPress site from one server to another? Can anyone explain the process? Would it just make more sense to point the domain name at the existing WordPress blog, and pay the nominal yearly fee? I appreciate any answers you can provide.

  My boss wants me to make a website that pulls news from various rss feeds from all over the web. I need to pull something together, that looks pro, quick! I started by going to themeforest and looked around forever, but nothing really looked right. I need something mostly built like this already that I can just alter into our site. I can do most cms, photoshop, some code, I used to do it like this freelance years ago, but it's not really my job now. It just sort of came up suddenly, so I wanna pull through. This is a good example of the overall structure I had in mind, but it just isn't clean enough. All of the news feeds will essentially be about the same criteria, but will pertain to different geographic areas. It would be a huge plus if I could segregate the news visually in some clever way based on geography. (Like a map?) I'm definitely open to all suggestions. I have to get this done by friday!

  I have been having issues lately with a certain directory. It seems someone is placing files into it, or something of that sort, and any attempt to delete them is successful, HOWEVER they reappear over time (maybe not the exact same ones, but random files). I will provide you the information I can and several pictures of my problem: sandbox.mys4l.com/visual/files/b1.jpg Files like this have been appearing in my /visual/ folder, and I have no clue where they are coming from. sandbox.mys4l.com/visual/files/b2.jpg This is what is inside on of those weird files, it appears to be nothing problematic. sandbox.mys4l.com/visual/files/b4.jpg As you can see, in the time it took me to take the first picture, more odd files showed up. These log files are also being uploaded to this directory, and I know I didn't put them there. sandbox.mys4l.com/visual/files/b7.jpg This inside one of these mysterious .log files, I'm not sure what it's all about. These files only appear to be going into this specific area, and I'm not sure of their origin, only that they will not go away. I have done a full system scan at least twice with an up-to-date virus scan, and have looked for an unknown script which may be writing them there. Nothing has come up, so I come to you guys as I hear this is the best place to find answers. Hope this problem has a solution!

• FTP proxy that translates from passive to active

  Is it possible to install a proxy server that will transform passive ftp to active ftp? Details of my problem: I would like to deploy my web sites using Visual Studio's built in publish web site function. The problem is that my web hotel only supports active ftp, and unfortunately Visual Studio 2010 has a bug, so the publish function only works with passive ftp. My idear is to install a tiny local ftp proxy, that is able to transform passive ftp mode to active mode. I would then enter localhost as the publish server in Visual Studio, and the proxy would do the actual uploading of the files to my web hotel. Visual Studio bug report: Unable to publish website to FTP server that doesn't allow passive mode.
