    Is there a way to display a MapView without extending MapActivity? I have other Activity class which I'm extending and I would prefer not to change that... I've seen that you can inflate using MapActivity, but didn't find any spec/examples on how to do it.

    I am having sqlite database containing gujarati words.. The sql query for the database is... BEGIN TRANSACTION; CREATE TABLE eng_guj (_id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, eng_word , guj_word ); INSERT INTO eng_guj VALUES(1,'aardvark','??? ??????? ?????????? ?? ?????? ????? ??????.'); COMMIT; I want to display the text in textview.. but its not rendering properly.. meant Its displaying the word in gujarati like "???????" will be displayed as "??????". I already have used Typeface and different ttf fonts.

    i am trying to display a random string each time a button is pressed from a set of strings defined in strings.xml . this is an example of the strings ID's <string name="q0"> <string name="q1"> <string name="q2"> <string name="q3"> <string name="q4"> java code for getting a random string. private static final Random rgenerator = null; int RandomQ = R.string.q0 (rgenerator.nextInt(5) + 1); String q = getString(RandomQ); if i try to use this java code i get an error at "q0" in R.string.q0 which is The method q0(int) is undefined for the type R.string if i try to use the quick fix and create a method, it works. but it wont let me save or run the app because it replaces my create method and shows this message R.java was modified manually!   • Serializable object in intent returning as String

    In my application, I am trying to pass a serializable object through an intent to another activity. The intent is not entirely created by me, it is created and passed through a search suggestion. In the content provider for the search suggestion, the object is created and placed in the SUGGEST_COLUMN_INTENT_EXTRA_DATA column of the MatrixCursor. However, when in the receiving activity I call getIntent().getSerializableExtra(SearchManager.EXTRA_DATA_KEY), the returned object is of type String and I cannot cast it into the original object class. I tried making a parcelable wrapper for my object that calls out.writeSerializable(...) and use that instead but the same thing happened. The string that is returned is like a generic Object toString(), i.e. com.foo.yak.MyAwesomeClass@4350058, so I'm assuming that toString() is being called somewhere where I have no control. Hopefully I'm just missing something simple. Thanks for the help!   • Why is my onSharedPreferenceChangeListener being called multiple times when I change a pref.

    I've written an app with 3 tabs. Each tab has the same list view with different data sources. I have setup SharedPreferences in the tabhost activity, but I put my onSharedPreferenceChangeListener method in my listactivity. When I change a preference, my listener gets called and it updates my database. This is all working. However, if I change the data in tab 1, it calls my listener once. If I change the data for tab 2 it calls it twice and if I change the data in tab 3 it calls it three times. Any idea why it works this way? I guess I could setup my shared prefs in my listactivity and that might avoid the issue, but I'm curious why my listener is called multiple times if it's in a different tab. brockoli

  • Poor Transparency on Images

    I am having problems getting transparency to work well on an ImageView. The images at (http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/6233/whatn.png) were screen captured from a Droid (hdpi). The top image I made in Photoshop and left the background white. The bottom image is the same image with the background transparent and the layout's color (white) shows through. Whenever I have transparent backgrounds in images it dithers shadows like this. Also, it only happens on hdpi devices, on my G1 (mdpi) it looks just fine. What is going on? How can I make the bottom image look as good as the top one?

    Hi, I am trying to make the Spinner behave different way when the user clicked on an item for a long time. I have spinner with some project and I want two things. When the user simple click on an item I want to normal select it. When the user have long clicked on an item I want to show dialog, with options like "Edit item", "Delete item". The first step works well (ofcourse), but when I am trying to do the second task I can not make spinner to generate longClicked event.     Hi, my app involves some work with the camera, therefore it needs to handle capturing of images with different resolution. My targets are 1.6 - onwards. Does anyone know what to pass in the value argument for Camera.Parameters.set("picture-size", value) I have look at the Donut release of the Camera app, however, it was not very clear what exactly has been used there as the value is retrieved from the SharedPreferences. // Set picture size parameter. String pictureSize = mPreferences.getString(CameraSettings.KEY_PICTURE_SIZE, getString(R.string.pref_camera_picturesize_default)); mParameters.set(PARM_PICTURE_SIZE, pictureSize); Lookin at the strings.xml I can see that R.string.pref_camera_picturesize_default = 2048x1536, however, I'm not sure what other values can be passed there?     I would like to add a preference setting that uses an ACTION_PICK intent. My goal is to acquire the phone number of a contact in my phone by using a preference. Is this possible? I can run this code from my activity but I discovered I cannot run it from a class that extends DialogPreference.   • NullPointerException on Activity Testing Tutorial

    Hello, I am currently trying the activity testing tutorial (Found here), and have a problem. It seems that whenever I try to call something inside the UIThread, I get a java.lang.NullPointerException. public void testSpinnerUI() { mActivity.runOnUiThread( new Runnable() { public void run() { mSpinner.requestFocus(); } }); } This gives me: Incomplete: java.lang.NullPointerException and nothing else. I have tried this on two different samples now, with the same result. I tried with a try/catch clause around the mSpinner.requestFocus() call, and it seems that mSpinner is null inside the thread. I have set it properly up with the setUp() function found in the same sample, and a quick assertNotNull( mSpinner ) shows me that mSpinner is in fact not null after the setUp() function. What can be the cause of this? EDIT; ok, some more testing has been done. It seems that the application that is being tested resets between each test. This essentially makes me have to reinstantiate all variables between each test. Is this normal?

It all works well... the only problem: the output from Log.i is cut-off... It's not the complete html page. If I make the same request in a browser, I get 3x the output in opposition to making the request in the emulator and using the above code.... what's wrong?
