  • Using JuJu with private Openstack cloud deployment?

    I'm seeing a number of problems trying to use JuJu with our internally deployed Openstack cloud. Most of this appears to be centered around DNS host resolution as well as the need to deal with our company's internal HTTP proxies. Our Openstack deployment relies upon an unroutable 172.16.0.0/12 block of addresses for VLAN allocation to each project (tenant) hosted on our internal cloud. User's have the option of assigning one or more floating addresses to instances, allocated from a block of routable addresses on our internal companies LAN. Currently, Openstack doesn't register instance names with anything other than the DNSMASQ service running on the cloud controller. As such, there's no way to resolve this address through our internal DNS hierarchy (this issue has already been reported as Bug #945505). As such, even though I can bootstrap my JuJu server node, I can't connect to it with the JuJu client, since it can't resolve the local (private) network name. I am able to ssh to the node, once I've assigned it an internally routable (i.e. floating) address. Which leads to the next issue. Next, to install software on an instance running in our cloud, it must have our internal proxy address defined - either in the apt.conf file or via environment variables. Unfortunately, when bootstrapping the server node, there's no provision to pass this info into a instance via JuJu environment.yaml file (if this is even the best way to handle this issue). As a result, the bootstrap node is unable to install the required packages. I'm assuming (dangerous, I know) that the way that I've deployed Openstack in our internal environment is probably not unique. Has anyone else encountered these issues?   • Ubuntu dpkg error , after crash and filesystem error recovery

    Ubuntu recently crashed , causing it's partition damaged ( which is EXT4) and Ubuntu was unable to boot , because it couldn't mount anything , only displays Busybox So I used the Live CD to run fsck on the partition, which fixed it , but deleted some nodes Now Ubuntu is working , but some files were missing , for example I lost the Panels configurations and Chromium's Extensions The Most Annoying problem , that there is some files corrupted , for example when I try to install any program, I got this (Reading database ... 95%dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error, aborting: files list file for package 'libservlet2.4-java' is missing final newline I tried these commands dpkg --configure -a apt-get -f install and from GUI , Synaptic Package Manager Fix Broken Packages So this file "libservlet2.4-java" Does anyone knows what it does ! and where it's location ? and how can I fix/get-correct-version-of it ? Also , is there any way I could tell Ubuntu to Check for ALL it's file , and if there is something corrupted it should recover it form the CD ?

  • Cannot upgrade to Lion using DVD

    When I first setup my MBP on 10.6 I made a lot of newb mistakes, and was unable to get Ruby on Rails to install, amongst a lot of other things. Because of this, I decided to backup everything on to a Time Machine HDD and re-install Lion. I had a bunch of problems but managed to sort them out, requiring me to go back to 10.6 from the original disc that came with the MBP. Before I did anything however, I burnt the Lion installer that I got from the App Store to a DVD. Now though, when I try to run it, I get the following: Cannot download additional components. I've managed to download software updates, so I know it can connect to the Apple servers.

  • Installed on a machine with EFI and after installation, it says the disk is not bootable

    I installed Ubuntu 11.10 and the installation runs through fine. It then says reboot, and the machine says 'inserts a boot disk' which means the hard disk isn't bootable. The primary hard disk is an EFI device, and nothing seems to work. The machine in question is an Acer Aspire M3970 desktop. Core i5 2300, with 8Gb Ram. Main boot drive is an SSD (Vertex 2E 60Gb). I am trying to install the 11.10 x64 version. The installation I have tried from CD and USB stick. It goes through the install, allows you to partition the drives then installs all the packages. At the end it goes for a reboot, and asks you to remove the installation media. The PC then restarts and says no bootable disk. I tried it many times. In the end I have installed Fedora 15 x64 which works straight away with no messing. Unless this issues is fixed I have to drop 11.10 as a viable option. From my experience F15 isn't quite as polished as Ubuntu, but in this case - it works!! Is this a widespread problem or am I unique?

    Hi all, How do I find all installed apache and PHP occurences on a Mac OS X system in bash and uninstall them? My motivation: I've managed to install multiple apache and PHP packages (I believe it's called packages in Unix terms, correct?) at some point, and I'ld like to start out fresh again, without completely re-installing Mac OS X again. Also, I'ld like to install suPHP along with apache this time, and I believe I need to compile apache with some additional stuff for that. But that is a challenge I'll deal with later, and probably ask a question about then. :) Thank you in advance for your info.

    I'm trying to install PostgreSQL 8.3 on Debian Lenny (kernel 2.6.26-2-686) using the package manager: sudo apt-get install postgresql-8.3 postgresql-client-8.3 postgresql-contrib-8.3 postgresql-common When deploying the package postgresql-common, the following warning is displayed: supported_versions: WARNING: Unknown Debian release: 5.0.4 I wonder if this is related to the problem I describe below. Next I try to launch the database server but it doesn't have any effect, neither any logs are generated. sudo /etc/init.d/postgresql-8.3 start Does anybody have a clue of what might be going on?

  • linux need to discover local sata mirror before hba attached scsi

    (none of the machines mentioned are in production) Hello, I'm trying to install Centos 5.4, which wants to put the boot loader on either the boot sector of the boot drive (a local SATA mirror, recognized second as sdb) or the mba of a hba-attached SCSI array (recognized first as sda). There's a LILO install already on the mba of sdb, which keeps trying to boot first. If I zero out the MBA of sdb, would the boot loader at sdb1 be found and booted? I was thinking of that as a plan B, as I was mostly thinking of coaxing CentOS to find the local mirror first and bring that up as sda, but I haven't found info on how to do this anywhere.

    I'm trying to compile the GPL NETGEAR firmware for the WNR2000v3 router using Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS. I've downloaded and extracted the source, installed everything I think I need, yet there are two build dependencies that I cannot resolve: > make menuconfig .... Build dependency: Please install ncurses. (Missing libncurses.so or ncurses.h) Build dependency: Please install zlib. (Missing libz.so or zlib.h) I've tried apt-getting all of the following packages: libncurses5 libncurses5:i386 libncurses5-dev zlib1g zlib1g-dev zlib1g-dbg The missing libs seem 'real': the target .so files aren't in /usr/lib, although the .h files are in /usr/include. EDIT: some Googling told me of broken or missing symlinks. I found the following: /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libncurses.so.5 -> libncurses.so.5.9 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libncurses.so.5.9 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libncursesw.so.5 -> libncursesw.so.5.9 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libncursesw.so.5.9 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libz.so.1 -> libz.so.1.2.3.4 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libz.so.1.2.3.4 so I tried to symlink these to /usr/lib: /usr/lib/libncurses.so -> /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libncurses.so.5 /usr/lib/libz.so -> /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libz.so.1 but the project still complains about missing libncurses and zlib. EDIT: I was able to get the dependencies to work under 8.04. Need to cross-reference things now. Does anyone have some tips on how to debug this sort of issue?

    As everyone probably knows, Windows allows a drive to have four primary partitions, one of which may be active. However, I have only three primary partitions. I shrunk one and created a fourth partition so I could install Windows 8 on it, but Disk Management only allows it to be a logical partition. Why might this be the case? If I cannot convert it to a primary partition, is it advisable to install Windows on a logical partition? If so, is hibernation supported?

    Right so, basically the story is that to test a XenServer environment from citrix I deployed a openQRM install from SVN to a ubuntu 10.4 install (on a ESX Environment) All went well installs, I can connect to it, but I can't seem to access the nagios plug in. Every time i wish to go to it i'm asked for a pw, and if I input the pw I wrote down yesterday it just doesn't let me in. I'm trying to reset the password on the nagios plug in now but for the life of me can't find it. Googled high and low for a defenitive working solution but so far no luck.   • asus eee pc 1018p os installation

    My friend has an asus eee pc 1018p. It has no cd/dvd drive (neither do he have a usb cd/dvd drive). The OS wasn't working fine, so we decided to restore the system using the provided OS backup from HD. But midway to installation it was interrupted and the computer was restarted (not h/w or s/w issue but we did it). Now we cannot run the backup and we also tried to install windows 7 through USB, but as soon as we start to install the OS, it says that some device driver is missing. It turns out that the OS needs usb device driver to continue. It has USB 3.0 maybe thats why the OS needs the driver. I tried disabling 3.0 and enabling 2.0 but then it does not boot from USB drive for some reason. We are stuck with this. The backup doesn't runs and when booting from USB it says that it needs device driver. Anyone has any idea what we should do?

    In windows 7 it is pretty simple to boot directly to a VHD, given that it also contains (or you are going to install) Windows 7 (or Vista/Server 2008). This installation is made possible I believe by the fact that from Vista on, Microsoft is using WIM (Windows Imaging Format) for OS installation. Is there a way to install XP to a VHD on Windows 7? Or is there a way to create a WIM image of the XP installer? Some have claimed to be able to do it in different blog posts, but there are no explanations of how to achieve it.

    What is the preferred/recommended way of installing php-fpm on debian for use with nginx? I read about a "php5-fpm" package everywhere, but it's not available in the official debian repos any more. The PHP-FPM website (http://php-fpm.org/download/) says that fpm is now included with the php core. Is it enough to install "php5-common" then? Where are the config files, though? Other people recommend to install the current version of php and php-fpm from dotdeb.org. The versions provided there are generally more up to date. But is it secure? Is this a good repo to use in a production environment? I would appreciate any advice.

    On my Windows Vista, it takes a full 12 minutes to install the .NET Framework 4.0. a) Is this normal? b) If not, can something be done about it? The reason I'm concerned about the speed is because it slows down the testing of our product installer considerably. Testing an installer is time consuming already, but this new .NET Framework installer makes it almost undoable. Detail: I did the test on a clean Vista inside a VirtualBox virtual machine. This setup does not show any performance issues in other situations. I tried both dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe and dotNetFx40_Client_x86_x64.exe. They both take approximately the same time to install.

    I think that my printer stopped working with the switch to gnome 3 or unity. Yes I have tried 32 and 64 bit os's. Here is the driver In order to actually install the driver, you need to extract it and then open up terminal and type sudo and then a space. Then drag the script into the terminal window. Before I formated my computer I used both WAMP and XAMPP for specific purposes. I used XAMPP because some of the scripts are buggy when run in WAMP, I used WAMP because it support different versions of PHP. In this posting I will show you how to add STS support to your existing application and how to generate dummy application that plays you real STS. Word of caution! Although it is relatively easy to build your own STS using WIF tools I don’t recommend you to build it. Identity providers must be highly secure and stable in every means and this makes development of your own STS very complex task. If it is possible then use some known STS solution. I suppose you have WIF and WIF SDK installed on your development machine. If you don’t then here are the links to download pages: Windows Identity Foundation Windows Identity Foundation SDK Adding STS support to your web application Suppose you have web application and you want to externalize authentication so your application is able to detect users, send unauthenticated users to login and work in other terms exactly like it worked before. WIF tools provide you with all you need. 1. Click on your web application project and select “Add STS reference…” from context menu to start adding or updating STS settings for web application. 2. Insert your application URI in application settings window. Note that web.config file is already selected for you. I inserted URI that corresponds to my web application address under IIS Express. This URI must exist (later) because otherwise you cannot use dummy STS service. 3. Select “Create a new STS project in the current solution” and click Next button. 4. Summary screen gives you information about how your site will use STS. You can run this wizard always when you have to modify STS parameters. Click Finish. If everything goes like expected then new web site will be added to your solution and it is named as YourWebAppName_STS. Dummy STS application Image on right shows you dummy STS web site. Yes, it is created as web site project not as web application. But it still works nice and you don’t have to make there any modifications. It just works but it is dummy one. Why dummy STS? Some points about dummy STS web site: Dummy STS is not template for your own custom STS identity provider. Dummy STS is very good and simple replacement of real STS so you have more flexible development environment and you don’t have to authenticate yourself in real service. Of course, you can modify dummy STS web site to mimic some behavior of your real STS. Pages in dummy STS Dummy STS has two pages – Login.aspx and  Default.aspx. Default.aspx is the page that handles requests to STS service. Login.aspx is the page where authentication takes place. Dummy STS authenticates users using FBA. You can insert whatever username you like and dummy STS still works. You can take a look at the code behind these pages to get some idea about how this dummy service is built up. But again – this service is there to simplify your life as developer. Authenticating users using dummy STS If you are using development web server that ships with Visual Studio 2010 I suggest you to switch over to IIS or IIS Express and make some more configuration changes as described in my previous posting Making WIF local STS to work with your ASP.NET application. When you are done with these little modifications you are ready to run your application and see how authentication works. If everything is okay then you are redirected to dummy STS login page when running your web application. Adam Carter is provided as username by default. If you click on submit button you are authenticated and redirected to application page. In my case it looks like this. Conclusion As you saw it is very easy to set up your own dummy STS web site for testing purposes. You coded nothing. You just ran wizard, inserted some data, modified configuration a little bit and you were done. Later, when your application goes to production you can run again this STS configuration utility and it generates correct settings for your real STS service automatically.

    I've tried installing Exchange 2010 on Windows 2k8 R2. Following error occurred when installing Hub Transport Role. Hub Transport Role Failed Error: The following error was generated when "$error.Clear(); install-ExsetdataAtom -AtomName SharedMachineSettings -DomainController $RoleDomainController" was run: "An error occurred with error code '2147950640' and message 'There is no such object on the server.'.". An error occurred with error code '2147950640' and message 'There is no such object on the server.' I have tried installation with both IPV6 turned on and off. Both failed and both required me to do some magic to uninstall Exchange, and try installation again. Feel free to shoot your ideas what can be done to resolve the error. In the end I will install HyperV and put Exchange 2010 on different server but that's not what the server owner wanted.

    On a previous question i posted, i asked for help on fixing my windows vista box because it keeps going to blue screen. No one seems to have the answer, so now i want to install Windows 7. I want to know if i can install 7 without having to reformat my hard drive and having to lose all my files. I've already confirmed the hardware is working because i installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my external hard drive and it runs on my system fine.     I am trying to install a web service (written in FoxPro) onto a newly configured server. Part of the installation process was to install MSSoap 3.0 which seems to be successful. The server OS is Microsoft Server 2008 R2 (x64). I am now trying to create a virtual directoty at the command prompt using the SOAPVDIR.CMD script and I am getting the following error: CMD> SOAPVDIR.CMD CREATE CSLRosterService "C:\ROSTERWS" CMD> ERROR (0x80070002): Soap Toolkit 3 Isapi is not correctly registered. Does anyone know how I can correct this or what I am doing wrong?

  • Ubuntu installation on Windows , I can't find my way back.

    So recently I have installed Ubuntu as an OS in addition to my Windows because it looked good and I have used it in the past and I liked it. Before I installed Ubuntu, they (the website) have given me a help list that shows that I will have the option of having Windows aside to Ubuntu (dual install), while I work with the Ubuntu OS. They told me that if I either put it in a CD or USB drive, I'll be okay. So there I was, installing Ubuntu, saving the Ubuntu file on my USB drive first, then afterwards clicking it and therefore proceeded to install. The problem is once I installed Ubuntu, it directed me to the 'login' page without giving me an option for dual-installing (you know, the language portion and so on). Now I tried both to suspend and shut off, and it seems like I cannot access my Windows files/account anymore and it really is unfortunate. Now I am FREAKING out, because this is a shared computer that my family uses (it's like a main computer in the house) and everyone's files are on this. It is extremely crucial for me to get these Windows files back because if I don't, my life will end tonight. Please, if someone can help me, I will love you forever.
