what can be causes of http server crash?

Hello , I am using WAMP server on Windows XP. Apache 2.2.11 MySQL 5.1.36 (INNODB engine) PHP 5.3.0 I observe that my WAMP server crashes in the following scenarios IF I use a Low end PC ( low processor speed and low RAM) After making some changes to httpd.conf file .For eg changing the Allow from IP address . But here it crashes only once and then it starts to work fine. Random crashes CRASH LOG szAppName : httpd.exe szAppVer : 2.2.11.0 szModName : php5ts.dll szModVer : 5.3.0.0 offset : 0000c309 C:\DOCUME~1\blrcom\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERc677.dir00\httpd.exe.mdmp C:\DOCUME~1\blrcom\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERc677.dir00\appcompat.txt My questions Does high CPU utilization/LOW RAM can also cause the HTTP server to crash ? excessive file reading as in every 10 seconds ? unlimited script execution time . I have set the maximum execution time in php script to 0 as my script has to execute for sometimes 2-3 days. Is there any way to avoid this ? Access to Database ? Should we use lock before reading and writing Can these be the reasons for random wamp server crashes ? OR is is some other programming error ? Please guide me . Regards, Mithun

Visual Studio 2012 Very Slow Typing

I have a problem. After SP1 update, passing some time, VS 2012 becomes very-very slow when typing text. Solution size is not big, PC is quite powerful, it has 16GB of RAM, SSD drive, and i7-2600. Windows 7 migration led to crashdump and hibernate problems

Note: I'm using a Samsung 830 SSD (migrated OS from defunct PC) and other than these two (interrelated?) problems it's working fine. Surprisingly well actually. Motherboard is a ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe. Problem 1: Crashdumps are not working. volmgr throws an event 45 "The system could not sucessfully load the crash dump driver." whenever you modify crashdump settings, or if a crashdump occurs. diskpart says that "Crashdump disk = no" which is peculiar. Problem 2: Hibernation isn't working. Again, volmgr throws the same event 45 if you try to hibernate. The screen blanks, then you're at the password prompt. No sleepage occurs. (Yes, I know I should avoid hibernation on SSDs but it's enabled and the hibernation file is definitely there so I'd like to know why it's failing). Diskpart claims "Hibernation file = no" which is again peculiar... it's plainly there and getting created by the system. The common factor appears to be volmgr and/or the crashdump "service" (if that's what it is). I'd much rather get this working than spend days reinstalling and reconfiguring the entire system, especially when it's working perfectly otherwise. Sleep works as well (as long as it's not hybrid sleep). So, what defines the flags "Crashdump disk" and "Hibernation file disk" in diskpart's output? And what might be going wrong that's breaking crashdumps in particular?

Problem setting command-line console resolution. vbeinfo in grub2 does not report all resolutions

I have a Asus EEE PC 1005P which I installed a Command-line system on using the Alternate Installer CD of Ubuntu Lucid Lynx. Altough I think this is a general linux and grub2 question. I do not have (or want) the X Window System installed. I want to change my console screen resolution (not inside X) to 1024x600. How do I find out the Mac Address Firefox submits for Geolocation?

I moved, but have the same router and cable box. Now when I visit Google Maps it still shows my old location. I went to the SkyhookWireless update page to update my Mac Address with my new location. The process is you put in your Mac address and it shows you the current location, and then you adjust that location and submit it. When I got the Mac Address from the status page on my router Skyhook reported that location as in Pakistan, which isn't even the correct continent (as my old or new address). I tried every other Mac address I could come up with: The cable router, the Wireless router's other Mac address, my PC's Mac address, etc. and none of them reported any location on the Skyhook page. So I am guessing that there is another Mac address, or some other bit of information that is used by Firefox when it reports to Google Maps my current location. Now that you have the back story, how do I find the Mac address or whatever information it is that Firefox (or other browsers) use to determine my Geolocation? Everything I have read online is rather vague. The next option I am considering is hooking a logging proxy onto Firefox and seeing what data it sends, but I'd rather find an easier method. USB Wifi will not connect on Windows 7 (Even though the driver installs OK)

Windows 7 will not connect to a WiFi Netowrk using a USB Network Adapter. I have 3 adapters, A Senoa SUB 364 (EXT), a Repeatit SU2410 USB V2 and a ZYXEL G202. All of these devices install OK on Windows 7 Home Premium on my Destop PC (64 bit) and on my Asus Wii Netbook (32 bit). In each case the adapter can be enabled/disabled and the driver properties says it is working correctly. When I try and connect to a network Windows 7 behaves as though the adapter does not exist and reports no networks. The Wii has an integrated adapter which works perfectly under Windows and connects to either of the 3 networks available to me. I have done all the checks I can on the configuration. What seems odd to me is that it happens to all 3 devices on 2 different windows 7 PCs both of which are working perfectly in any other respect. This suggests the common denominator is me and I must be doing something wrong.. what's also strange is that I cannot find any similar problems being reported on any of the forums. From what reading I've been able to do it seems like the new wifi virtualisation thingy in W7 is not recognising the adapters which suggests I', missing a configuration option somewhere. Looking forward to finding out if I'm not alone or just being stupid. Pete

What is the best keyboard for typing speed (not layouts)

So I am a programmer, and I like playing typing speed games. My typing speed is, for common English words, 85 to 90 wpm, max 95. I type on various devices, my laptop, desktop, office pc.... they all have slightly different keyboards. Being a curious programmer, I wonder what types of keyboard is used for the highest possible typing speed. Or let me phrase it in another way, what is the type of keyboards that people use in typing speed contest? Here is something I know that I feel like I can share: It must be a wired keyboard, I can feel the lag as I am typing this on my wireless keyboard, even if it is a slightly more expensive model which claims to have zero lag. I know people prefer a mechanical keyboard, for the hepatic feedback, however I have not tried one. It lasts longer and is noisy, it also does not have the problem of normal keyboards where you press many keys at a time the signals will get all jammed and the computer will only receive one or two keys. I personally prefer those "thin profile" keyboards. I type a lot, and 95 wpm put me in the top 5%, this is of course just on a gaming site. However when I type on the fat keyboards, my fingers have to travel a much longer distance before the keys actually click. This is where I find myself typing much faster with those thin profile keyboards found on my laptop. Because my fingers only hover on the keys and I only need to press a short distance, each stroke takes less force and light rapid strokes is what makes me type fast. When I type on a fat keyboard, I was forced to use heavy strokes, and this slows me down. There must be some people out there who are keyboard scientists, who actually do experiments and user tests with different setups. It would be interesting to understand more about the things we use everyday for not just work but a majority of our communications. P.S. this is about hardware and not about switching keyboard layouts to dvorak

Laptop choice for development: MacBook Pro 17 vs Dell Studio XPS 16 vs HP Envy 15

Hey! First things first - let me state that I am not intending to play games on this - I have narrowed down to these 3 purely based on specs and its individual brand reliability in the market. I intend to primarily use: Visual Studio 2008 Pro a lot (develop and deploy on Windows platforms) SQL Server 2005 Oracle 10g Adobe Photoshop CS4 Microsoft Expression Studio Google Sketchup I currently use a desktop PC (Core2Duo 2.66Ghz with 3GB DDRII memory) running Vista Business 32-bit - and I have to admit that, especially for Visual Studio, its quite sluggish to a point where it affects productivity. Furthermore, I intend to only use the notebook on a table - with a cooled surface, like granite :) - so I would appreciate people's input with regard to heat issues. Im aware that the Dell's primary exhaust gets blocked by the lid when open, but some reviews don't seem to place extraordinary emphasis on heat issues resulting from this. My options for the Dell/Alienware: Core i7 720QM 4GB DDRIII memory ATI mobility 3670 (512) 128GB Solid State Drive 16-inch Full HD RGB-LED LCD display (1080p) 3-year next-business-day support My configuration for the Apple MBP: Core2Duo 2.8Ghz (Im assuming the T9600) 4GB DDRIII memory 128GB Solid State Drive standard 1 year support The one advantage I think of with the MBP is that I can have the addition of OSX (though Im unsure what I would use it for, but purely to play around with a much-boasted-about OS) What are your thoughts on this, especially regarding build-quality, heat, performance and battery-life? Short POST data in HTTP

We're hosting a customer's Debian Linux web server. It's running a PHP based web application. The server is sitting behind our firewall with it's own virtual interface and port 80 is forwarded internally to a machine sitting in the DMZ. The issue we're having is that when data is posted to the server it seems to be being cut short for some users. It's reproducable for some users on the same box. But the same user sending the same data on the same lan on another PC it works. The data gets cut to around 1140 bytes I'm told. Any idea why this might be happening? The customer is blaming our firewall, but then surely we'd have issues with other services. I'm suspecting it's a problem with the website itself. Suggestions on how to isolate the problem would be of help. Our firewall is Astaro. EDIT: A customer has set the ethernet frame size temporarily to 500bytes on the server. This made it work for now! I know some of the customers are using an internet provider that runs PPPoE

Looking for cheap Wireless router, with USB for attached USB disk drive

I have a 802.11b router at home (DLink DI-614+ (B rev)) and it is working perfectly well for me. I want to replace it though, since it is out of updates, and now several years old and heck, I want a new toy to configure! I was trying to decide what to get. I could care less about 802.11g or n support, since B is fast enough, but every device in my house is now B/G, so G would be fine for me. N buys me little to nothing. (Small enough house that range is a non-issue). The features I realized I want are a USB port for sharing a USB hard drive. I would like to have a central device I could store files on. I do not want to waste the power of an always running PC to do this, so a router seems like the place to go. I would love it, if it could support Vonage VOIP as well, then I could ditch a power brick from a second device (I have the small DLink Vonage VOIP box). All the current examples of this router (with USB drive, yet to find one with VOIP too!) are in the $100+ range, and N and silly, when a B/G is in the $30 range around here.

What DBus signal is sent on system suspend?

Hello, I need to detect when a machine is going to sleep in Ubuntu 9.10 and Fedora 13. Both use UPower, so I've been looking on the "org.freedesktop.UPower" DBus bus for such signals. I've been listening for the "sleeping" signal on the UPower bus with the following command: dbus-monitor --system "type='signal',interface='org.freedesktop.UPower',member='Sleeping'" When I sleep the machine (either by closing the lid, selecting "shutdown - suspend" or sending a DBus message) I don't see a "sleeping" event. I notice that the "Sleeping" event is sent when the "org.freedesktop.UPower.AboutToSleep" method is invoked. I can do this manually by calling: dbus-send --print-reply --system --dest=org.freedesktop.UPower /org/freedesktop/UPower org.freedesktop.UPower.AboutToSleep And I notice the "sleeping" signal is fired. My understanding is that anything that sleeps the PC must send the "AboutToSleep" signal before hand. It doesn't seem like this is happening. I've tried these steps on both Fedora 13 and Ubuntu 9.10 and I see the same results. Can anyone explain what's happening or provide me with an alternative DBus signal to listen for? Folder Redirection Issues - Freezing, Strange Warnings

I have Folder Redirection set up in a test environment for a couple accounts. I have followed the instructions for setting up the folder security settings here, and I can confirm that folders are created automatically by the system with the correct security settings when a user logs in. The GPO has been configured to automatically move user files up to the redirected folders, and this is working properly. Problems start occurring when a Windows 7 PC is in use. It is rare, but Explorer will lock up when performing a file write operation (move/copy/save from application). This results in the entire system being unusable, with only a hard reset resolving it (Task Manager doesn't start, the "three finger salute" does nothing, apps stop working). The mouse functions, but clicks do nothing. The other issue is that occasionally when copying/creating/modifying files a dialog box will pop up with the message "You need permission to perform this action. You require permission from XYZ\cardenas to make changes to this folder." The folder that was created by copying an existing one has the correct security settings and lists me as the owner. My company will not be implementing Folder Redirection on XP, since we are making a "clean break" with implementing new technologies with the Windows 7 rollout, so this behavior has not been - nor will be - checked for in XP. Looking for updated BIOS for '99 Gateway in order to format/recognize >127 GB HD

I have a '99 Gateway that's apparently too old for even Gateway to acknowledge it exists. Want to use it as a media hub and put in a 320GB HD, but it will not format above 127GB even running Win XP SP3. Read somewhere that upgrading the BIOS may do the trick, but I can't find the correct BIOS, and GW has been no help. Hoping I can just upgrade the BIOS, which is 11 years old. Any help would be much appreciated! I don't know where to look, and searches have been fruitless. Running SSL locally on a hosts redirected domain name with Ubuntu and Apache

I recently made some changes to my Ubuntu computer so that a domain name resolved to my local copy of Apache. I edited /etc/hosts and added 127.0.0.1 thisbit.example.com Then set up a VirtualHost for the responses I wishes to create. That all works fine and my testing is now shooting on ahead without harm or risk tot he production server. Now for my next trick I need to test the authentication and so need to do this with HTTPS Basically https://auth.example.com needs to work on my PC without the SSL causing an issue which I imagine would be the case as I am clearly not the true https://auth.example.com but for the basis of this exercise I need to pretend that I am. Now it might be that the Apps I'm testing don't worry about checking the certificate. (Many are in Java which I'm no expert with). What gotchas am I likely to encounter and what is the best way of not letting my own hacks spoil my testing? I'm guessing the place to start is to enable SSL with Apcahe... I've never done that before as it has never come up before.

Fixing partitions and Installing BackTrack

My whole problem started when I started trying to install Backtrack(3 or 4) Backtrack was trying to install itself over my entire windows partition (Which I had combined into one when I installed windows 7). So I booted back into windows 7 on my netbook (eee pc 1000 HE btw) I went into disk-manager with the aim of making a partition to install backtrack on but came out with a really screwed up drive. So I had two partions when I started: the windows system partition, and then my main partition and they were blue in diskmanager (I think that has something to do with formatting). After I went through the steps to make a 10 GB FAT32 partition for backtrack I had about five partitons one called PE: that I have no Idea what it is the windows system file, my main partiton 10 GB unallocated space, and two other partions under 50MB each that are both unused space. And they were all converted to simple volumes (Green instead of blue). And backtrack still wants to erase my entire drive. Question number 1: How do I get it back to the way it was? Question 2: How to I get backtrack to dual boot on my netbook?

Possible Duplicate: Please insert a disk into SD/MMC - Vista problem Hi I tried pushing my 2GB micro SD card using the inbuilt card reader. On clicking the drive I get "Please insert a disk into SD/MMC". This problem is really frustrating. The card works fine on other computers so does the microSD to SD attachment. I have done following o fix. - Updated Vista and installed SP1. - Updated the TI drivers for FlashDrive. - Checked Vaio site for updates (none required). - Added a new entry HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlS* et001\Services\tifm21\Parameters/SDParam=1 took the hint from (http://tinyurl.com/nk33tp) I have restarted the PC multiple times. As soon as I put the card in, the SD/MMC device icon blips, so it seems the hardware is at least detecting something. The card reader was working fine few days back. I guess some windows update has broken something, does any one have any idea on how to proceed. MY laptop is VGN-N365E.

Changing externally visible IP on a multi-IP router?

I work at a public library and I'm trying to configure OCLC's EzProxy software. I've run into a problem and I think it's related to our network config. I'm punching above my weight here a little so I need some help. I think I'm trying to configure a 1:1 NAT, but not sure how or if our hardware supports it. The EzProxy machine is on an internet line which supports multiple external IPs. Our router is a Billion BiGuard30. There's another server on this line, let's say its IP is x.x.x.9. The EzProxy machine is x.x.x.11 I've set up port forwarding from x.x.x.11 on the http ports to the EzProxy machine. Trying to browse to x.x.x.11 from an external PC works fine - we get to the EzProxy page we are serving. However, if we go to something like WhatIsMyIP from the EzProxy machine, it says that its IP is x.x.x.9. This causes problems with our user authentication software. How do we make the rest of the internet see that the machine is x.x.x.11? There doesnt seem to be any "outbound port forwarding" on the Billion router, nor is there any "1:1 NAT" options in its config webpage. The EzProxy machine is running Ubuntu 12.04, if that helps.

Good folk of SU, I'm planning to build a NAS (Network Access Storage). I'm planning to do it cheap (:read Old PC Config + Open source software). I was looking for good DIY links . Before you shoot this down as a Repost, I'm only looking for good links containing detailed instructions for setting up a NAS. I did a fair bit of searching and found these links (so please suggest others. While these links are great they delve more on the hardware side, i'm looking for more instructions in the software side). Which apache/mysql/php package is best for windows?

I have tried appservnetwork, was the best so far, but I haven't seen them do an update in ages, EasyPHP is just slow to load always. Wamp and Xamp, all put in their description that is not for production. I do not plan to host publicly this site or site's I am working on. But I do want a fast loading apache/mysql/php server for development purposes. I used to really like WLMP, which is Lighttpd for Windows, but that project seems unupdated or abandoned. I refuse to use IIS, but i have no desire to get into any wars over it. I run windows xp sp3 at my home pc. I will need to have a web server setup for professional work, as well as some fun websites I am working on. I just want it fast enough, so i can run it via localhost, and not take forever to load in the browser. Thank you... I plan mostly do php programming and perhaps coldfusion via this.

Nagios 403 forbidden, indexes?

installed nagios under freebsd 9, but can't get the right way to be public in browser (from other pc's). I think that the problem is in the indexes or that there is not index file (instead main.php). Apache says that syntax is ok. The permissions of the dir are 777. The logs print Directory index forbidden by Options directive: /usr/local/www/nagios/. How to utilize 4TB HDD, which is showing up as 2.72TB

I have two internal HDD's. They're both 4TB capacity. They're both formatted with the GPT partitioning scheme, and they're Basic Discs (not dynamic). I'm on Windows 8 64bit. I have UEFI, not BIOS. When I view the discs in Computer Management MMC with Disk Management, they show that each partition is formatted as NTFS and takes up the entire drive. And it shows that each drive has a capacity of 3725.90GB in the bottom section of Disk Management, but 2.794.39GB in the top section. When I view the discs in "My Computer"/"This PC" they only show up as 2.72TB, which matches the amount capacity I'm getting from some other 3TB HDD's I have. Why are they showing up as only 2.72GB? Will I be able to use the full 4TB capacity? Also of note, although I'm not sure it's relevant: I often get corrupted files on these two HDD's. None of my other HDD's give me corrupted files. Usually the problem is fixed by running chkdsk /f on the drives, but it's extremely annoying. In the picture below, it's the X: and Y: drives. Steps I've tried Flashed latest BIOS (MSI J.90 to K.30)

HP c6180 driver refuses to install - "must reboot to continue delete files and continue install" loo

User called me last night, can't get HP drivers to install for printer. 500 meg download for latest c6180 driver. PC says "computer must be restarted to delete some files, then setup will continue." and it won't pass that point. (that's not exact phrasing of the error, and I'm not on the system now) Target machine is XP SP2. I upgraded to SP3. Fully patched. Ran malwarebytes, spybot, hijack this and turned off all startup entries. I noted that windows update also failed on optional printer driver updates for other printers installed on the machine. Went to printer server properties, removed all print drivers from system, deleted all printer ports. Made sure no services were marked disabled. After 5 hours of fighting this I started to get desperate, and uninstalled anything that referenced HP in the machine at all. Still no cure. I'm 6 hours into this and completely stumped. Google returns nothing applicable except unanswered requests for help on same topic.

RDP problem with Vista and Windows 7 destination

I use a server a home to host a bunch of concurrently running Hyper-V VM's with different OS's and software for testing. I have Vista on the laptop, all latest SP's and patches. The server is Server 2008 R2, fully patched. The guests are a mix of XP, Vista, Server 2008 and Windows 7. If I connect to the Win XP or Server 2008 guest using RDP, it is always good. Very quick, no speed issues. If I connect to the Vista or Win 7 guests, the response time is so slow it is unusable. Usually 6 or 8 seconds, and at times it is to long to measure! This happens from both the laptop running Vista, and the server running Server 2008 R2. Does anyone know what the issue is with RDP on Vista and Windows 7 destinations? I did read this: http://blog.tmcnet.com/blog/tom-keating/microsoft/remote-desktop-slow-problem-solved.asp and that is not the problem I have applied that change to all PC's.
