• How can I clear viewstate of a dropdownlist inside a usercontrol? Should I?

  I have a web user control with a dropdownlist inside of it. When the usercontrol's databind event is called, it automatically fires the dropdownlists databind event. In the dropdownlist's ondatabound event handler an 'other' option is appended to the end of the dropdownlist. The usercontrol is loaded multiple times, depending on selection of other controls on the page. When the page loads initially, there are no items in the usercontrol except the 'other' option. Then when I call the user control's databind event the control reloads, with 4 items plus the 'other' option. The text for the first item in the list is the 'other' option's text, not what it should be. I've stepped through the databound event of the dropdownlist and have found that all items are loading correctly. It appears that the dropdownlist's viewstate is the culprit, that the dropdownlist's original item[1] text is overwriting the new text. I've tried disabling viewstate on the dropdownlist, but then it wouldn't load at all. Should I try to clear the dropdownlist's viewstate? How do I do that? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

• Does it ever make sense to make a fundamental (non-pointer) parameter const?

  I recently had an exchange with another C++ developer about the following use of const: void Foo(const int bar); He felt that using const in this way was good practice. I argued that it does nothing for the caller of the function (since a copy of the argument was going to be passed, there is no additional guarantee of safety with regard to overwrite). In addition, doing this prevents the implementer of Foo from modifying their private copy of the argument. So, it both mandates and advertises an implementation detail. Not the end of the world, but certainly not something to be recommended as good practice. I'm curious as to what others think on this issue. Edit: OK, I didn't realize that const-ness of the arguments didn't factor into the signature of the function. So, it is possible to mark the arguments as const in the implementation (.cpp), and not in the header (.h) - and the compiler is fine with that. That being the case, I guess the policy should be the same for making local variables const. One could make the argument that having different looking signatures in the header and source file would confuse others (as it would have confused me). While I try to follow the Principle of Least Astonishment with whatever I write, I guess it's reasonable to expect developers to recognize this as legal and useful.

  Im using JQuerys Autocomplete plugin, but it doesn't autocomplete upon entering anything. Any ideas why it doesnt work? • With Maven2, how would I zip a directory in my resources?

  I'm trying to upgrade my project from using Maven 1 to Maven 2, but I'm having a problem with one of the goals. Right now, the installpack directory is in the resources directory of my standard Maven2 directory structure, which works well since it just gets copied over. I need it to be zipped though. I found this page on creating ant plugins: http://maven.apache.org/guides/plugin/guide-ant-plugin-development.html. It looks like I could create my own ant plugin to do what I need. • A problem regarding dll inheritance

  Hello all I have created a dll that will be used by multiple applications, and have created an installer package that installs it to the program files, as well as adds it to the Global Assembly Cache. The dll itself uses log4net, and requires a xml file for the logging definitions. Therefore when the installer is run, the following files get copied to the install directory within program files: The main dll that I developed - The Log4Net.dll - the Log4Net.xml file I am now experiencing a problem. I have created a test console application for experimentation. I have added my dll as a reference, and set the 'local copy' flag to false. When I compile the test console exe however, I noticed that it has copied the log4net.dll and log4net.xml files to the bin directory. And when running the test console, it appears that it will only work if the log4net.dll is in the same directory as the exe. This is dispite the fact that the test console application does not use log4net, only the dll that was added as a reference does. Is there some way to have it so that the log4net.dll & xml files used will be the ones that were installed to the program files, rather than any application needed to copy over local copies? The applications that will be using my dll will not be using log4net, only the dll that they are referencing uses it. Many thanks

• Export sheet from Excel to CSV

  I am creating a spread sheet to help ease the entry of data into one of our systems. They are entering inventory items into this spread sheet to calculate the unit cost of the item (item cost + tax + S&H). The software we purchased cannot do this. Aan invoice can have one or more lines (duh!) and I calculate the final unit cost. This is working fine. I then want to take that data and create a CSV from that so they can load it into our inventory system. I currently have a second tab that is laid out like I want the CSV, and I do an equal cell (=Sheet!A3) to get the values on the "export sheet". The problem is when they save this to a CSV, there are many blank lines that need to be deleted before they can upload it. I want a file that only contains the data that is needed. I am sure this could be done in VBA, but I don't know where to start or know how to search for an example to start. Any direction or other options would be appreciated.

• Tool to migrate a repo with only read access?

  I have a subversion repository located on our school servers from a project my friends and I worked on the past semester. We want to take the project and polish it and make it more of a portfolio item and I'm not quite sure that the repo will stay intact on the school servers (they usually wipe it after a few semesters). I don't have access to dump the repo, although I've sent an email to see if I can get one - which would be the best solution. I tried svnsync but the school server doesn't support the replay command (probably turned off), so that won't work for me. Now, theoretically, wouldn't it be possible to (manually or programmatically) checkout each revision of the repository and check it in to a new repository on our own server? I think it would work - there's only 3 of us, and there's no working copy conflicts that we'd have to worry about, just want a copy of all the history in the repo in case we need to go back and look at it. That being said, before I go and reinvent a wheel by writing a script to do it - does something like this already exist? I have to figure there's already a tool to do it, or that someone has wrote a script to do it.

  I'm trying to add the item <key>UIStatusBarHidden</key><true/> to my plist that's auto-generated by CMake. For certain keys, it appears there are pre-defined ways to add an item; for example: set(MACOSX_BUNDLE_ICON_FILE ${ICON}) But I can't find a way to add an arbitrary property. I tried using the MACOSX_BUNDLE_INFO_PLIST target property as follows: I'd like the resulting plist to be identical to the old one, except with the new property I want, so I just copied the auto-generated plist and set that as my template. But the plist uses some Xcode variables, which also look like ${foo}, and CMake grumbles about this: Syntax error in cmake code when parsing string <string>com.bedaire.${PRODUCT_NAME:identifier}</string> syntax error, unexpected cal_SYMBOL, expecting } (47) Policy CMP0010 is not set: Bad variable reference syntax is an error. Run "cmake --help-policy CMP0010" for policy details. Use the cmake_policy command to set the policy and suppress this warning. This warning is for project developers. Use -Wno-dev to suppress it. In any case, I'm not even sure that this is the right thing to do. I can't find a good example or any good documentation about this. Ideally, I'd just let CMake generate everything as before, and just add a single extra line. What can I do?

• Creating a ComboBox with one or more separator items?

  I'm using Delphi7 and I'd like to have a ComboBox with separator items (Just like in popup menus). I've seen this beautifully implemented in Mozilla Sunbird (I know, it's not Delphi...) the following way: The separator item is a simple gray line drawn in the center of the item If you hover over the separator with the mouse, the selection doesn't appear If the user clicks the separator, it's not selected either AND the combobox doesn't closeup. No. 1 could be implemented using DrawItem. I could live without No. 2 because I have no idea about that. For No. 3 I'm asking for your help. I've figured out that straight after closing up a CBN_CLOSEUP message is sent to the combobox. I thought about hooking the window proc and if CBN_CLOSEUP is sent to a certain combobox then countering it. But I'm unsure if this is the best solution, or maybe there are other, more elegant ways? Whatever the solution is, I'd like to have a standard ComboBox which supports WinXP/Vista/7 theming properly. Thanks! • WPF - Extend ListView with checkable AND selectable ListViewItems

  Hi there. I already read many examples on extending ListViews with checkboxes bound with IsSelected. But I want something more. I want a seperation between the checked and selected state, so i get a ListBox that has a single selected item, but can have multiple checked items. Unfortunately ListViewItem does not have a property for checked and I dont see a possibility to get the ListView to work with a custom CheckableListViewItem. Of course i could use a List of objects with a checked property as ItemSource, but I dont think thats a good way to go. Checked or not is a matter of the list or item-container, not of the object listed in it. Beside that I dont want all my classes like user, role, group to have counterparts like checkableUser, checkableRole and checkableGroup. The behaviour i want can be easyly accomblished for the UI with a <DataTemplate x:Key="CheckBoxCell"> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <CheckBox /> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> and a <GridViewColumn CellTemplate="{StaticResource CheckBoxCell}" Width="30"/> But without a binding on the checkbox i cant check if it is checked or not. Is there any way to accomplish something like that? The perfect solution for me would be to have listView1.SelectedItem, listView1.CheckedItems and maybe a listView1.UncheckedItems and of course listView1.CheckItem and listView1.UncheckItem.   I read all topics related to this question in stackoverflow and whole internet and cant find working sollution... Each owner has his item and when someone buy his item, owner gets an confirmation email, but when in cart is few same owner items, he gets several same email letters, so I need to remove dublicated array entries. I have tried to use DISTINCT and array_uniques functions but no luck. Any advices? • NSOutlineView not redrawing

  Hello, I have an NSOutlineView with checkboxes. I have the checkbox state bound to a node item with the key shouldBeCopied. In the node item I have the getters and setters like so: -(BOOL)shouldBeCopied { if([[self parent] shouldBeCopied]) return YES; return shouldBeCopied; } -(void)setShouldBeCopied:(BOOL)value { shouldBeCopied = value; if(value && [[self children] count] > 0) [[self delegate] reloadData]; } The idea here is that if the parent is checked, so should the children. The problem I'm having is that when I check the parent, it does not update that view of the children if they are already expanded. I can understand that it should not be updated by the bindings because i'm not actually changing the value. But should reloadData not cause the bindings to re-get the value, thus calling -shouldBeCopied for the children? I have tried a few other things such as -setNeedsDisplay and -reloadItem:nil reloadChildren:YES but none work. I've noticed that the display gets refreshed when I swap to xcode and then back again and that's all I want, so how do I get it to behave that way?

• How do I rescue a small portion of data from a SQL Server database backup?

  I have a live database that had some data deleted from it and I need that data back. I have a very recent copy of that database that has already been restored on another machine. Unrelated changes have been made to the live database since the backup, so I do not want to wipe out the live database with a full restore. The data I need is small - just a dozen rows - but those dozen rows each have a couple rows from other tables with foreign keys to it, and those couple rows have god knows how many rows with foreign keys pointing to them, so it would be complicated to restore by hand. Ideally I'd be able to tell the backup copy of the database to select the dozen rows I need, and the transitive closure of everything that they depend on, and everything that depends on them, and export just that data, which I can then import into the live database without touching anything else. What's the best approach to take here? Thanks. Everyone has mentioned sp_generate_inserts. When using this, how do you prevent Identity columns from messing everything up? Do you just turn IDENTITY INSERT on?

• MySQL LIMIT 1 but query 15 rows?

  Basically what I'm trying to do is compare the ID's of rows against 15 results in MySQL, eliminating all but 1 (using NOT IN) and then pull that result. Now normally this would be fine by itself, however the order of the 15 rows I'm doing the SQL query for are constantly changing based on a ranking, so there is a possibility that between the time the ranking updates, and the ajax request (which I submit the ID's for NOT IN) more than just one ID has changed, which would of course bring back more than one row which I do not want. So in short, is there a way in which I can query 15 rows, but only return one? Without having to run two separate queries. Any help is appreciated, thank you. EXAMPLE: Say I have 7 items in my database, and I'm displaying 5 on the page to the user. These are what are being displayed to the user: Apple Orange Kiwi Banana Grape But in the database I also have Peach Blackberry Now what I want to do is if the user deletes an item from their list, it will add another item (based on a ranking they have) Now the issue is, in order to know what they have on their list at the moment I send the remaining items to the database (say they deleted Kiwi, I would send Apple, Orange, Banana, and Grape) So now I select the highest ranked 5 items from are remaining six items, make sure they are not the ones already displayed on the page, and then add the new one to list (either Peach or Blackberry) All good and well, except that if both peach and blackberry now outrank grape, then I will be returning two results instead of just one. Because it would've searched... Apple Orange Banana Peach Blackberry and excluded... Apple Orange Banana Grape Which leaves us with both Peach and Blackberry, instead of just Peach or Blackberry

• Using JQuery in an AJAX control and avoiding conflicts

  Hi, I am using JQuery within a custom AJAX user control (part of a home grown toolkit) and I need to ensure that JQuery is present on the hosting page. There can be multiple instances of the control on a page and some controls may need to use different versions of JQuery. At the moment I am using the following code to load in JQuery when the control initializes... Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptInclude(Page.GetType(), "jquery-1.4.4.min.js", this.ResolveUrl("TextControlPlugin/lib/jquery-1.4.4.min.js")); This works because the scriptmanager handles not putting multiple copies of the same script into he page. Problems... I cannot use JQuery statically in the calling page (I may not have a control on the page but need to use JQuery) The scriptmanager appears to handle only duplicate URL's and I will need to deploy it from potentially 2 different URL's (the calling page's copy and the controls copy) So, is there a way to isolate a version of JQuery to the context of my control that doesnt interfear with any use of JQuery from the calling page? The developer writing the page may not have access to the internals of the control. I have looked at JQuery.noConflict() but cannot seem to get it to work correctly - I believe I'm having problems with the order in which the scripts are injected into the page - I keep getting JQuery is undefined errors. Any help would be much appreciated
