  • Visual C++ 6.0 Academic Edition, using MFC as a static library

    I need to compile some mfc code that was written using Visual C++ 6.0 many years ago. I was supposed to be able to choose New-Project-Win32 Application and then in Project-Settings choose "Using MFC as a static library." I'm using the AE version and this could be the reason that this option is not available. So far, the smaller programs compile using the "Use MFC as a shared dll", but I'd like to have or mimic the other option. Any suggestions?

  • Unable to connect to OpenId Provider

    When I run in visual studio I am able to connect to openid provider, But if I host app in IIS ,I am not able to connect to openid provider. (I am getting error at CreateRequest) Please let me know what settings has to be done in IIS so that I can connect to the Openid Provider.     So I've found out that setting the PATH environment variable affects only the old command prompt, powershell seems to have different environment settings. How do I change the environment variables for powershell (v1)? Note: I want to make my changes permanent, so I don't have to set it every time I run powershell. Does powershell have a profile file? Something like bash profile on unix?

    I am working on a Visual Studio 2008 project that is already added to TFS server. I am not sure which settings and policies have been configured for the TFS (this is done by a separate dept, not developers) Every time I make an edit to a code file , the file is checked out automatically (without explicitly checking out the code file myself) Please help me locate this setting or policy because it is not very useful at the moment. Sometime you want to make a local change to try out something, and not necessarily check out the code....

    Hi, I am getting the following error: Invalid authorization specification I've narrowed down the error to my connection string. I have verified the server name, database, user & password are correct. Here is the string: "Provider=SQLOLEDB;Server=xxxxx.db.12345.hostedresource.com;Database=foo;UID=fooUser;PWD=fooPW" The SQL server is hosted on Godaddy so I don't have access to its settings. Please help, I've scoured the internet for a solution!

  • Print from Linux to Windows networked printer

    I want to print from a Debian (Lenny) workstation to a Windows networked printer. I'm not even sure what type of Windows network this is. Our tech-support is friendly but doesn't want to get involved with supporting Linux. I need to use it for a variety of reasons and am completely stumped because I know nothing about Windows networking. They gave me URI smb://msprint.ourorg.edu as the "address" of the printer and further confirmed that the domain is "OURORG" and the share is "PHYS-PRI". I've installed CUPS and made sure that it's running as a daemon, I've clicked on the system-config-printer[1] icon, selected the printer as a Windows printer shared via SAMBA and entered the above URI. Attempting to print a testpage just sees it sit in the queue. I attempted to see if I could access the share using two other methods. Method 1. First I tried the "smbclient" from the CLI: $ smbclient -L //msprint.ourorg.edu -U user23 timeout connecting to 192.168.44.3:445 timeout connecting to 192.168.44.3:139 Connection to msprint.ourorg.edu failed (Error NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED) Method 2. I tried to use the GUI tool Smb4K. This shows me four other toplevel (I'm assuming they're domains?) groupings one of which is the one which our IT department supplied to me. Clicking them shows a bunch of other machines with (what I assume are NetBIOS names?) including my own. I see all sorts of other networked printers belonging to other departments but none within mine. Certainly not the PHYS-PRI one suggested to me by the IT folks. I realize that I'm probably using the wrong terminology for the windows network, but can anyone help me with this? What steps should I be taking in debugging this? Do I need to actually run my machine as a SAMBA server to authenticate to the printer or should I just be able to communicate using CUPS?   • Copying files between linux machines with strong authentication but without encryption

    I'm looking for a suitable program to copy files from one linux machine to another one. The program should be able to do authentication but it should not do encryption. The reason behind the latter is the lack of CPU power to do the encryption. I copy backups from ~70 machines to a single backup server simultaneously. The single server is an HP Proliant DL360 G7, with 10 Gbps ethernet connection and an FC storage backend that can do 4 Gbps. Through FTP I can write ~400MB/sec to the storage (that's about what I want) but through ssh with arcfour I can only do ~100MB/sec while having 100% CPU usage. That's why I want file transfers not to be encrypted. The alternatives that I found not really suitable: rcp: no authentication, forget it FTP: making the authentication "secure" (at least preventing plain-text password exchange) is possible but not really easy and I haven't found a method to force any FTP daemon to encrypt the control channel (for the authentication) and not to encrypt the data channel (for data transfers) SCP/SFTP: in farely recent ssh(d) implementations you can't turn off encryption. The best you can do is to use the arcfour cypher for the encryption but it sill uses too much CPU power for my needs. rsync over ssh: same problems as with SCP/SFTP. plain rsync: from the documentation of rsyncd: "The authentication protocol used in rsync is a 128 bit MD4 based challenge response system. This is fairly weak protection, though (with at least one brute-force hash-finding algorithm publicly available), so if you want really top-quality security, then I recommend that you run rsync over ssh." It's a no-go. Is there a protocol/program that can do exactly what I want? (A big plus would be if it could work on windows as well and/or if it would support rsync-stlye copying/synchronization (e.g. copy only the differences).)

  • Access NFS share from cygwin?

    We have a Windows 2003 Server on which we have installed Microsoft's Services for UNIX, and we have mounted a few NFS shares that contain shared resources that we need to access from this box. When I log in to this server with remote desktop, I am able to browse the contents of the NFS shares and everything works fine. However, one use case that we have is that we need to access this server using SSH, and still be able to access the NFS shares. We are running the Cygwin SSH daemon to provide SSH access to the server, but for some reason when we log in to the Windows 2003 server using SSH we can no longer access the NFS shares. To demonstrate, here is the output of the 'mount' command, first from a Cygwin shell when logged in with remote desktop: $ mount C:/cygwin/bin on /usr/bin type ntfs (binary,auto) C:/cygwin/lib on /usr/lib type ntfs (binary,auto) C:/cygwin on / type ntfs (binary,auto) C: on /cygdrive/c type ntfs (binary,posix=0,user,noumount,auto) O: on /cygdrive/o type nfs (binary,posix=0,user,noumount,auto) P: on /cygdrive/p type nfs (binary,posix=0,user,noumount,auto) Z: on /cygdrive/z type nfs (binary,posix=0,user,noumount,auto) And now, the same 'mount' command when logged in with SSH: $ mount C:/cygwin/bin on /usr/bin type ntfs (binary,auto) C:/cygwin/lib on /usr/lib type ntfs (binary,auto) C:/cygwin on / type ntfs (binary,auto) C: on /cygdrive/c type ntfs (binary,posix=0,user,noumount,auto) Notice the missing O: P: and Z: NFS shares in the latter. Can anyone tell me why I am unable to see these NFS shares when logged in with SSH? Thanks!

  • Delay init from starting a service for a period of time?

    I am trying to get a rudimentary NFS server up and running. Right now the server is configured as an NFS server due to a workaround for a vendor issue not supporting direct attached clustered storage, which we are trying to get them to resolve. The vendor software is Splunk. The splunk feature we are using requires files be located on shared storage (which for us is /mnt/nfs until they support a real clustered filesystem). Currently the server has a GFS2 filesystem mounted at bootup (it is the only server with the filesystem actively mounted so there should be no problems with locking). We went with GFS2 so switching over to a clustered filesystem is easy should the vendor begin supporting it. NFS is configured to mount that filesystem at /mnt/nfs, which the splunk installation than sees. Splunk is configured to find it's configuration files in /mnt/nfs. However, I am running into a problem where the splunk daemon starts before nfs is finished loading, and because it sees nothing at /mnt/nfs it starts creating files there, and then when the files disappear (nfs finishes mounting the share), splunk craps out. Splunk is set to run at runlevel 3, S90. NFS is set at runlevels 2-5, S60. Is there any way to delay the startup of the splunk process further?

  • MySQL Not Turning On

    I have an amazon ec2 instance running on the Amazon Linux AMI and its a micro instance. I wanted to install Django onto my server so I entered these commands wget http://www.mlsite.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/go wget http://www.mlsite.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/django.conf chmod 744 go ./go So after I was done, I ran sudo service httpd restart and sudo service mysqld restart and This is what came up for mysqld: Stopping mysqld: [ OK ] MySQL Daemon failed to start. Starting mysqld: [FAILED] So I deleted the django files /usr/local/python2.6.8/site-packages/django_registration.egg and I tried finding the error and I found out that in my /etc/my.cnf for the socket, it said socket=/var/lock/subsys/mysql.sock so I went to /var/lock/subsys/ and there was no mysql.sock. I tried creating one using vim but it still didn't work. Then I checked the error log and it said Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) So I am pretty much lost right now. I know it has something to do with mysql.sock If you might know a reason why this was caused could you please let me know? I have a wordpress site on my server, so i kind of need MySQL to work.   • Backup files from Linux client to Windows Server

    I'm trying to backup my files from my Linux box to my Windows Server 2008 as a push, and when I delete them from my Linux box, they remain on my Windows Server. I've found lots of sources that are similar, but most results were from Windows to Linux. I managed to find slightly more similar cases like Using rsync and cygwin to Sync Files from a Linux Server to a Windows Notebook PC, and rsync from Windows PC to remote Linux server, with the most similar being a backup from Linux to Windows Server, but through a pull from the Windows Server. Initially, I used Unison because I thought having the 2-way capability would come in handy, and I would just have to set some configurations to make it 1-way. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the right configuration, and only managed to synchronize using the command unison "profile" -ui text -auto -silent. When I deleted the files on my Linux box, the files in the Server got deleted too, which of course, isn't what I want. When I tried to find any options for Unison, I only discovered the -force option, which didn't help, since what I wanted was an incremental update to the Server. I found out I could achieve this from using rsync and the -a option (archive), which would keep adding files even if I deleted them from my Linux box. I installed Cygwin on my Windows Server, configured an SSH daemon, but I can't seem to get it working. I've also already configured Windows Firewall to open port 22 (both inbound and outbound). I used the following command from my Linux box: rsync -avrzn /folder/to/be/backed/up/ [email protected]:/cygdrive/c/place/to/store/backed/up/files (a - archive, v - verbose, r - recurse into subdirectories, z - compress, n - dryrun) but it just won't work. Can anyone help me out? I don't mind using either Unison or rsync, as long as it achieves what I want.

  • Is arithmetic overflow/underflow generally checked in .Net framework methods?

    For example, let's use the Add method of the ArrayList class. If I am using the default compiler settings in Visual Studio C# project in which arithmetic overflow is not checked, would ArrayList.Add() throw an OverflowException if I added too many items? Would surrounding the method call with checked or unchecked make any difference? BTW, I would write a test program to determine the answer to this question if I had Visual Studio available to me right now.
