  • Emaroo 1.4.0 Released

    Emaroo is a free utility for browsing most recently used (MRU) lists of various applications. Quickly open files, jump to their folder in Windows Explorer, copy their path - all with just a few keystrokes or mouse clicks. tl;dr: Emaroo 1.4.0 is out, go download it on www.roland-weigelt.de/emaroo   Why Emaroo? Let me give you a few examples. Let’s assume you have pinned Emaroo to the first spot on the task bar so you can start it by hitting Win+1. To start one of the most recently used Visual Studio solutions you type Win+1, [maybe arrow key down a few times], Enter This means that you can start the most recent solution simply by Win+1, Enter What else? If you want to open an Explorer window at the file location of the solution, you type Ctrl+E instead of Enter.   If you know that the solution contains “foo” in its name, you can type “foo” to filter the list. Because this is not a general purpose search like e.g. the Search charm, but instead operates only on the MRU list of a single application, you usually have to type only a few characters until you can press Enter or Ctrl+E.   Ctrl+C copies the file path of the selected MRU item, Ctrl+Shift+C copies the directory If you have several versions of Visual Studio installed, the context menu lets you open a solution in a higher version.   Using the context menu, you can open a Visual Studio solution in Blend. So far I have only mentioned Visual Studio, but Emaroo knows about other applications, too. It remembers the last application you used, you can change between applications with the left/right arrow or accelerator keys. Press F1 or click the Emaroo icon (the tab to the right) for a quick reference. Which applications does Emaroo know about? Emaroo knows the MRU lists of Visual Studio 2008/2010/2012/2013 Expression Blend 4, Blend for Visual Studio 2012, Blend for Visual Studio 2013 Microsoft Word 2007/2010/2013 Microsoft Excel 2007/2010/2013 Microsoft PowerPoint 2007/2010/2013 Photoshop CS6 IrfanView (most recently used directories) Windows Explorer (directories most recently typed into the address bar) Applications that are not installed aren’t shown, of course. My question is, should I always include the keywords "Easter Island" for Google to easier understand that my photos are from Easter Island, or is it sufficient that the "Easter Island" keywords are in the domain, as well as in all other pages of the site? For example, Alt text 1: "Moai statues at volcano Rano Raraku at Easter Island (Rapa Nui)" or Alt text 2: "Moai statues at volcano Rano Raraku" Would example 1 be considered keyword stuffing by Google

    I am trying to get Juju working on Windows 8 but I am running in to some errors when trying to get juju to see my ssh keys: C:\Users\username> juju bootstrap error: error parsing environment "azure": read C:\Users\user\SkyDrive\Documents\Azure\ssh\: The handle is invalid. I've added a public key I generated with putty to the directory above called azure My environments.yaml file has this in it: authorized-keys-path: C:\Users\user\SkyDrive\Documents\Azure\ssh\ Any ideas?

    I am curious what computer:// is, in terms its implementation on the file system/in the nautilus executable/as a configuration provided to nautilus? Perhaps it is a configurable group (of paths) for nautilus, configurable on a user basis. The reason I ask is because it is not accessible with root's nautilus. If #1 is correct, how does one create computer:// and/or how does one create such path groups?

How would one start with the development with such systems? Would there be editors that can be used (or at least help) with creating the environments? Perhaps a 3D map with splines describing the path of the ship, as well as events on the splines?

  • Using the @ in SQL Azure Connections

    The other day I was working with a client on an application they were changing to a hybrid architecture – some data on-premise and other data in SQL Azure and Windows Azure Blob storage. I had them make a couple of corrections - the first was that all communications to SQL Azure need to be encrypted. It’s a simple addition to the connection string, depending on the library you use. Which brought up another interesting point. They had been using something that looked like this, using the .NET provider: Server=tcp:[serverName].database.windows.net;Database=myDataBase; User ID=LoginName;Password=myPassword; Trusted_Connection=False;Encrypt=True; This includes most of the formatting needed for SQL Azure. It specifies TCP as the transport mechanism, the database name is included, Trusted_Connection is off, and encryption is on. But it needed one more change: Server=tcp:[serverName].database.windows.net;Database=myDataBase; User ID=[LoginName]@[serverName];Password=myPassword; Trusted_Connection=False;Encrypt=True; Notice the difference? It’s the User ID parameter. It includes the @ symbol and the name of the server – not the whole DNS name, just the server name itself. The developers were a bit surprised, since it had been working with the first format that just used the user name. Why did both work, and why is one better than the other? It has to do with the connection library you use. For most libraries, the user name is enough. But for some libraries (subject to change so I don’t list them here) the server name parameter isn’t sent in the way the load balancer understands, so you need to include the server name right in the login, so the system can parse it correctly. Keep in mind, the string limit for that is 128 characters – so take the @ symbol and the server name into consideration for user names. And plan for that extra space…

Well I have maxed that out with blu-ray rips and want the rest of the drive for space. EUS can be easily configured during OUD setup. ODSM (the graphical admin console) can also be used to enable EUS for a new suffix.     Emails from my domain (hosted at 1and1, and using Google Apps Premier edition) have sporadically been going to recipients' spam folders lately. I did some research, tested, and found out that I do not have an SPF record for my domain. According to this Google Support page, I need to create one. Following the steps on that page is easy, until I get to #3: Create a TXT record containing this text: v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all I see no way to create a "TXT record".
