• How to add a Fragment inside a ViewPager using Nested Fragment (Android 4.2)

  I have a ViewPager with three Fragments, each one shows a List (or Grid). In the new Android API level 17 (Jelly Bean 4.2), one of the features is Nested Fragments. The new functionality description says: if you use ViewPager to create fragments that swipe left and right and consume a majority of the screen space, you can now insert fragments into each fragment page. So, if I understand right, now I can create a ViewPager with Fragments (with a button inside for example) inside, and when user press the button show another Fragment without loose the ViewPager using this new feature. I expend my morning trying to implement this on several ways but I can´t made it... Can somebody show a simple example of how to do this? PS: I'm only interested in doing at this way, with getChildFragmentManager to learn how works.

If this was any old UITextField (not a search bar) the property would be enablesReturnKeyAutomatically. • How do I manipulate a jqGrid's search/filters?

  I have a jqGrid with a navBar that has search: true and multipleSearch: true. I would like to add a button to my UI that automatically adds an additional rule to the search. I've tried manipulating the postData for the filter directly, but values added this way don't show up in the search UI. I've also tried accessing the search box directly using jQuery, like this: $('#fbox_list').searchFilter().add(); $('#fbox_list .sf .data input').each(function(index) { alert($(this).val()); }); But, in addition to feeling hackish, it only works if the user has already clicked on the search button (the fbox_list div is not constructed on load). Has anyone else dealt with an issue like this?

But I am expecting to have a submit button inside the Html begin form and use that substitution to submit the list of files with some more parameters. But when I do that the passing IEnumerable is always null in the Action method. • Silverlight for Windows Embedded Tutorial (step 5 and a bit of Windows Phone 7)

  If you haven’t spent the last week in the middle of the Sahara desert or traveling on a sled in the north pole area you should have heard something about the launch of Windows Phone 7 Series (or Windows Phone Series 7, or Windows Series Phone 7 or something like that). Even if you are in the middle of the desert or somewhere around the north pole you may have been reached by the news, since it seems that WP7S (using the full name will kill my available bandwidth!) is generating a lot of buzz in the development and IT communities. One of the most important aspects of this new platform is that it will be programmed using a new set of tools and frameworks, completely different from the ones used on older releases of Windows Mobile (or SmartPhone, or PocketPC or whatever…). WP7S applications can be developed using Silverlight or XNA. If you want to learn something more about WP7S development you can download the preview of Charles Petzold’s book about it: http://www.charlespetzold.com/phone/index.html Charles Petzold is also the author of “Programming Windows”, the first book I ever read about programming on Windows (it was Windows 3.0 at that time!). The fact that even I was able to learn how to develop Windows application is a proof of the quality of Petzold’s work. This book is up to his standards and the 150pages preview is already rich in technical contents without being boring or complicated to understand. I may be able to become a Windows Phone developer thanks to mr. Petzold. Mr. Petzold uses some nice samples to introduce the basic concepts of Silverlight development on WP7S. On this new platform you’ll use managed code to develop your application, so those samples can’t be ported on Windows CE R3 as they are, but I would like to take one of the first samples (called “SilverlightTapHello1”) and adapt it to Silverlight for Windows Embedded to show that even plain old native code can be used to develop “cool” user interfaces! The sample shows the standard WP7S title header and a textbox with an hello world message inside it. When the user touches the textbox, it will change its color. When the user touches the background (Grid) behind it, its default color (plain old White) will be restored. Let’s see how we can implement the same features on our embedded device! I took the XAML code of the sample (you can download the book samples here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/D/B/1DB49641-3956-41F1-BAFA-A021673C709E/CodeSamples_DRAFTPreview_ProgrammingWindowsPhone7Series.zip) and changed it a little bit to remove references to WP7S or managed runtime. If you compare the resulting files you will see that I was able to keep all the resources inside the App.xaml files and the structure of  MainPage.XAML almost intact. This make sense because there is not support for phone applications on CE 6. I also had to specify width and height of my main page (on the WP7S device this will be adjusted by the OS) and I had to replace the multi-touch event handler with the MouseLeftButtonDown event (no multitouch support for Windows CE R3, still). I also changed the hello message, of course. I added the code to load a resource dictionary. Resources are an important feature of XAML that allows you to define some values that could be replaced inside any XAML file loaded by the runtime. You can use resources to define custom styles for your fonts, backgrounds, controls etc. and to support internationalization, by providing different strings for different languages. The rest of our WinMain isn’t that different. It creates an instances of our MainPage object and displays it. Since our TextBlock is inside the grid, we don’t need to provide an event handler for its MouseLeftButtonDown event. We can just use the pOriginalSource member of the event arguments to check if the event was generated inside the textblock. If the event was generated inside the grid we create a white brush,if it’s inside the textblock we create some randomly colored brush. Notice that we need to use the RGBA macro to create colors, specifying also a transparency value for them. If we use the RGB macro the resulting color will have its Alpha channel set to zero and will be transparent. Using the SetForeground method we can change the color of our control. You can compare this to the managed code that you can find at page 40-41 of Petzold’s preview book and you’ll see that the native version isn’t much more complex than the managed one.   I always read about this funny weight value in the Android documentations. Now I want to try it for the first time but it isn't working at all.   I have two partitions on my hard-didk , I have installed ubuntu on my 1st partition and windows 8 later on another partition.Now i can only boot into windows 8 because it doesn't recognize Ubuntu. How would i dual boot my PC without using grub . I would like using Windows 8 boot manager as its pretty neat. I tried using easyBCD but it doesn't work.It causes the boot manager to switch to windows 7 Boot Manager .Is there anyother work around or solution Any help would be appreciated. Note: The windows 8 boot Manager is sky blue color interactive menu with mouse and other options and windows 7 boot manager is the normal black and white one where you can only use your keyboard

• MS Access 2003 - Message Box: How can I answer "ok" automatically through code

  So a couple silly questions: If I include this in some event: MsgBox " ", vbOkOnly, "This little message box" could I then with some more code turn around and 'click the ok button. So that basically the message boox automatically pops up, and then automatically goes away? I know its silly because you want to know, why do you want the message box then..... well a) i just want to know if you can do that, and what would be the command b) i have some basic shapes (shape objects) that are made visible when the message box appears. But without having the message box there, there is no temporary disruption of code while waiting for the button to be clicked, and therefor those pretty image objects being made visible does take effect on the the form. So I really do not need the message box, just the temp disruption that shows the objects. Thanks!

• Problem with waveOutWrite and waveOutGetPosition deadlock

  I'm working on an app that plays audio continuously using the waveOut... API from winmm.dll. The app uses "leapfrog" buffers, which are basically a bunch of arrays of samples that you dump into the audio queue. Windows plays them seamlessly in sequence, and as each buffer completes Windows calls a callback function. Inside this function, I load the next set of samples into the buffer, process them however, and then dump the buffer back into the audio queue. In this way, the audio plays indefinitely. For animation purposes, I'm trying to incorporate waveOutGetPosition into the application (since the "buffer done" callbacks are irregular enough to cause jerky animation). waveOutGetPosition returns the current position of playback, so it's hyper-precise. The problem is that in my application, making calls to waveOutGetPosition eventually causes the application to lock up - the sound stops and the call never returns. I've boiled things down to a simple app that demonstrates the problem. You can run the app here: http://www.musigenesis.com/SO/waveOut%20demo.exe If you just hear a tiny bit of piano over and over, it's working. It's just meant to demonstrate the problem. The source code for this project is here: http://www.musigenesis.com/SO/WaveOutDemo.zip The first button runs the app in leapfrog mode without making the calls to waveOutGetPosition. If you click this, the app will play forever without breaking (the X button will close it and shut it off). The second button starts the leapfrogger and also starts a forms timer that calls the waveOutGetPosition and displays the current position. Click this and the app will run for a short while and then lock up. On my laptop, it usually locks up in 15-30 seconds; at most it's taken a minute. I have no idea how to fix this, so any help or suggestions would be most welcome. I've found very few posts on this issue, but it seems that there is a potential deadlock, either from multiple calls to waveOutGetPosition or from calls to that and waveOutWrite that occur at the same time. It's possible that I'm calling this too frequently for the system to handle.

• Silverlight WCF method calls fails if WCF service is not running initially

  Quite simply I have a generic Silverlight 3.0 web page that is calling a Ping method on a WCF service. I do not have the WCF service running initially when I navigate to this Silverlight page. As expected I get a communication exception when I press the Silverlight button to call the Ping method, which I catch. Now if I start the WCF service and press the Ping button I still get the communication exception. How come? The other scenario is the WCF is running when I navigate to the SL page and the Ping method call works. I turn off the WCF service, ping method fails. Turn it back on and the ping method succeeds. How come if it's not running initially the ping method fails always? I could include some sample code if you'd like but this is just a real simple Hello World example using basichttpbinding, straight out the book. Thanks, Craig

  I've just started learning VB.NET with VS 9.0; a small application I'm working on keeps returning an "A first chance exception of type System InvalidOperationException occurred in System Windows Forms dll" error from the Immediate Window. The application has almost zero functionality so far, it consists of a menu strip with: File About |Open |Save |Save As |Quit The only code I have written opens an Open File dialog, a Save As dialog, an About window with background sound and an OK button, and the Quit button which exits. Since there is almost no code for me to search through, I can't understand why there would be an error. The program runs just fine when I'm debugging it too.

• UIToolbar UIBarButtonItem Alignment question

  I need to create a UIToolbar that has two UIBarButtonItems. The 1st button must be centered and the 2nd item must be right aligned. I understand and use Flexible spacing and it works great when I need to balance buttons across the UIToolbar, but with only two buttons, I can't seem to perfectly center the middle button. I've even initialized the view.toolbarItems array with NSArray *items = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:fixed, flex, center_button, flex, right_button, nil]; and set fixed.width = right_button.width ... but still, the center_button is never perfectly centered.
