• capture any error in VBScript?

  I have a batch file that calls a VBScript (.vbs) program. After calling it, my batch script checks errorlevel to see if the .vbs program failed. I can signal failure with an exit code in the .vbs program with WScript.Quit(1). However, I can only do that explicitly. If some unexpected run-time error happens, the .vbs quits with an error dialog box, however the exit code is zero so my batch file thinks it suceeded! How can I change that behavior? And if you are thinking of saying, use on error goto, don't bother... that syntax is available in regular VB, but not in VBScript.

  I was planning to use LESS css in my project (PHP). I am planning to use its nested @media query feature. I find that it fails to group the multiple media queries in the output css it generates. • PHP Multiple Calls to Server Share Objects?

  I’m wondering this about PHP on Apache. Do multiple calls to the server from different users—could be sitting next to each other, in different states, different countries, etc…—share memory? For example, if I create a static variable in a PHP script and set it to 1 by default, then user1 comes in and it changes to 2, and then almost at the exactly same time, user2 comes in, does he see that static variable with a value of 1 or 2? This is a confusing concept for me and I'm trying to think of how my application will scale.

  My application runs on IBM WebSphere 6.1 Network Deployment. The application have several JSP files and Java classes. Today each host have only one JVM instance but my intention is to start another instance on each host. How can I configure log4j to log to different files for each JVM instance in the same host? I thought of using variable substitution on log4j XML configuration file but it only works with system properties. So, it is safe and recommended to set a custom system property just to store the JVM name? Anyone knows another strategy to achieve this in a 'elegant' way?

• NHibernate handling mutliple resultsets from a sp call

  I'm using a stored procedure to handle search on my site, it includes full text searching, relevance and paging. I also wanted it to return the total number of results that would have been returned, had paging not being there. So I've now got my SP returning 2 select statements, the search and just SELECT @totalResults. Is there any way I can get NHibernate to handle this? I'm currently accessing the ISession's connection, creating a command and executing the SP myself, and mapping the results. This isn't ideal, so I'm hoping I can get NH to handle this for me. Or if anyone has any other better ways of creating complicated searches etc with NH, I'd really like to hear it.

As far as I understand, anything annotated with @Repository should default to being a singleton and thus doSomeDatabaseStuff() should only be called once (as is my intention). The problem is that I'm seeing doSomeDatabaseStuff() called multiple times. What's going on here? Have I set something up incorrectly? I'm using spring 3.0.0. Thanks for the help.

• Hibernate: order multiple one-to-many relations

  I have a search screen, using JSF, JBoss Seam and Hibernate underneath. There are columns for A, B and C, where the relations are as follows: A (1< -- ) B (1< -- ) C A has a List< B and B has a List< C (both relations are one-to-many). The UI table supports ordering by any column (ASC or DESC), so I want the results of the query to be ordered. This is the reason I used Lists in the model. However, I got an exception that Hibernate cannot eagerly fetch multiple bags (it considers both lists to be bags). There is an interesting blog post here, and they identify the following solutions: Use @IndexColumn annotation (there is none in my DB, and what's more, I want the position of results to be determined by the ordering, not by an index column) Fetch lazily (for performance reasons, I need eager fetching) Change List to Set So, I changed the List to Set, which by the way is more correct, model-wise. First, if don't use @OrderBy, the PersistentSet returned by Hibernate wraps a HashSet, which has no ordering. Second, If I do use @OrderBy, the PersistentSet wraps a LinkedHashSet, which is what I would like, but the OrderBy property is hardcoded, so all other ordering I perform through the UI comes after it. I tried again with Sets, and used SortedSet (and its implementation, TreeSet), but I have some issues: I want ordering to take place in the DB, and not in-memory, which is what TreeSet does (either through a Comparator, or through the Comparable interface of the elements). Second, I found that there is the Hibernate annotation @Sort, which has a SortOrder.UNSORTED and you can also set a Comparator. I still haven't managed to make it compile, but I am still not convinced it is what I need. Any advice?

• Writing to a log4net FileAppender with multiple threads performance problems

  TickZoom is a very high performance app which uses it's own parallelization library and multiple O/S threads for smooth utilization of multi-core computers. The app hits a bottleneck where users need to write information to a LogAppender from separate O/S threads. The FileAppender uses the MinimalLock feature so that each thread can lock and write to the file and then release it for the next thread to write. If MinimalLock gets disabled, log4net reports errors about the file being already locked by another process (thread). A better way for log4net to do this would be to have a single thread that takes care of writing to the FileAppender and any other threads simply add their messages to a queue. In that way, MinimalLock could be disabled to greatly improve performance of logging. Additionally, the application does a lot of CPU intensive work so it will also improve performance to use a separate thread for writing to the file so the CPU never waits on the I/O to complete. So the question is, does log4net already offer this feature? If so, how do you do enable threaded writing to a file? Is there another, more advanced appender, perhaps? If not, then since log4net is already wrapped in the platform, that makes it possible to implement a separate thread and queue for this purpose in the TickZoom code. Sincerely, Wayne

• ASP.NET Web Page Not Available

  It's pretty difficult to show code for ASP.NET here, so I will try my best to describe my problem. I have a FileUploadControl and a Button that calls a function when it's clicked. It seems that the Button function works when there is nothing chosen for my FileUploadControl. However, when there is something chosen in the FileUploadControl (I have selected a file to upload), there is a problem when I click the button. It completely does not matter what the function does (it could just be writing to a label, even when it has nothing to do with the FileUploadControl). The error I get is: This webpage is not available. The webpage at http://localhost:2134/UploadMedia/Default.aspx might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address. I have searched on Google, and people seem to have had problems with this, but different causes from me. They have said that their ASP.NET Development Server port is actually different from their port in the address bar. This is not the case for me. Also, another problem people have had is with Use Dynamic Ports. I have tried both true and false. I have also tried different ports, and I have always gotten the same error. This is really driving me crazy because it doesn't matter what the code in the buttonFunction is, it doesn't work as long as there is something in the FileUploadControl. If there is nothing, it seems to work fine.   I've recompiled php 5.3.0 under OS X Server (10.6.3) in order to gain Freetype support in GD. As part of the process, I recompiled libjpeg-8a (and before that I tried libjpeg-7).   I'd like to melt the dataframe so that in one column i have dates in a second i have username as the variable and finally the value.   I' writing a C++ MFC program on VS2008 and I'm getting this "Debug Assertion Error" when I first run the program sometimes. When I try to debug it, it takes me to this winhand.cpp file which is not part of the program I wrote so I'm not sure how to debug this. • multiple keys and values with google-collections

  Hello, I would like use google-collection in order to save the following file in a Hash with multiple keys and values Key1_1, Key2_1, Key3_1, data1_1, 0, 0 Key1_2, Key2_2, Key3_2, data1_2, 0, 0 Key1_3, Key2_3, Key3_3, data1_3, 0, 0 Key1_4, Key2_4, Key3_4, data1_4, 0, 0 The first three columns are the different keys and the last two integer are the two different values. • Query with Two Different DSN

  I have a query: The "X" tables are from one data source and the "Y" table is from another...but there is join between the data sources. I can't seem to figure out how to enter the two different connection strings for this to run. ConnectionString="Dsn=Xdb;uid=xxx;pwd=xxxxxxx" ProviderName="System.Data.Odbc" ConnectionString="Dsn=Ydb;uid=xxx;pwd=xxxxxxx" ProviderName="System.Data.Odbc" Is this possible...am I just missing something?

• How to use JQUERY to filter table rows dynamically using multiple form inputs

  I'm displaying a table with multiple rows and columns. I'm using a JQUERY plugin called uiTableFilter which uses a text field input and filters (shows/hides) the table rows based on the input you provide. All you do is specify a column you want to filter on, and it will display only rows that have the text field input in that column. Simple and works fine. I want to add a SECOND text input field that will help me narrow the results down even further. So, for instance if I had a PETS table and one column was petType and one was petColor -- I could type in CAT into the first text field, to show ALL cats, and then in the 2nd text field, I could type black, and the resulting table would display only rows where BLACK CATS were found. Basically, a subset. Here is the JQUERY I'm using: $("#typeFilter").live('keyup', function() { if ($(this).val().length > 2 || $(this).val().length == 0) { var newTable = $('#pets'); $.uiTableFilter( theTable, this.value, "petType" ); } }) // end typefilter $("#colorFilter").live('keyup', function() { if ($(this).val().length > 2 || $(this).val().length == 0) { var newTable = $('#pets'); $.uiTableFilter( newTable, this.value, "petColor" ); } }) // end colorfilter Problem is, I can use one filter, and it will display the correct subset of table rows, but when I provide input for the other filter, it doesn't seem to recognize the visible table rows that are remaining from the previous column, but instead it appears that it does an entirely new filtering of the original table. If 10 rows are returned after applying one filter, the 2nd filter should only apply to THOSE 10 rows. I've tried LIVE and BIND, but not working. Can anyone shed some light on where I'm going wrong?
