• Why is i-- faster than i++ in loops? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: JavaScript - Are loops really faster in reverse…? I don't know if this question is valid in other languages or not, but I'm asking this specifically for JavaScript. I see in some articles and questions that the fastest loop in JavaScript is something like: for(var i = array.length; i--; ) Also in Sublime Text 2, when you try to write a loop, it suggests: for (var i = Things.length - 1; i >= 0; i--) { Things[i] }; I want to know, why is i-- faster than i++ in loops?

• Select photo while keep the order

  I have a list of photo on the page, each have an unique id, user can click on them to toggle select the photo, when they click the submit button, I need to send the array of selected photo ids to the back end, in the order that the photo was selected. I think that the fastest way to track if a photo is selected is to use an object that use photo id as key, like: var selected = { "6272861": true, "6272888": true } when the user unselect a photo, I just need to delete selected["6272861"]. But this will ignore the order, if I use an array to keep the selected photos: var selected = ["6272861", "6272888"]; then when I need to unselect a photo, I have to loop through the array and delete the item. Is there better ways? thanks.

  I have this code on my system, and it works very well in all "real browsers", but now I need put this working on IE10. Because this development is inside a CMS I can't do upgrade on Jquery or UI. The $ version is 1.3.2 an UI version is 1.7.3. In IE I don't receive any message of error. And the Items with a class = "container myDevelopment" aren't sortables.   I have an object that I'm populating from a selection off a table row that a user selects. I have a jQuery function that captures the click event and a hidden form field populates an id I need. However, I'm not sure as to the proper way to send off that object to a struts2 action?   Can I access a cookie written with jQuery's cookie plug-in with PHP? I know you can't set Javascript equal to PHP or vice versa, but IN ESSENCE is: $.cookie('var') = $_COOKIE['var']? Again, I know you can't set them equal to each other, but if I set it in jQuery and then go to another page, can PHP access it? I've read lots of posts about this, but I can't seem to find an answer to this part. Note, if I look in Firefox's preferences, I can see the cookies are there, so I know they're set.

• jQuery: How do I insert an html string an arbitrary number of times (i.e. not with an each() function)?

  I just need to take a certain html query object and append it to an html element a lot of times. I have this: var box = $("<div class='box'>&nbsp</div>"); $("#firstbox").after(box); and it works fine, but it just adds one 'box' after the #firstbox element. I'd like to do something like this: var box = $("<div class='box'>&nbsp</div>"); $("#firstbox").after(box * 6000); so that it will insert 6000 copies of that 'box' html, but this is not working. This is I'm sure the easiest thing to do, but I can't seem to find how to multiply actions like this without using the each() function, which doesn't apply here because I don't have 6000 of anything on my page.   I've read that if I have a for loop, I should not use string concation because it's slow. Such as: for (i=0;i<10000000;i++) { str += 'a'; } And instead, I should use Array.join(), since it's much faster: var tmp = []; for (i=0;i<10000000;i++) { tmp.push('a'); } var str = tmp.join(''); However, I have also read that string concatention is ONLY a problem for Internet Explorer and that browsers such as Safari/Chrome, which use Webkit, actually perform FASTER is using string concatention than Array.join(). I've attempting to find a performance comparison between all major browser of string concatenation vs Array.join() and haven't been able to find one. As such, what is faster and more efficient JavaScript code? Using string concatenation or Array.join()?

However, the res.view() doesn't work.   I just tried to upgrade my version of PHP on Ubuntu 12.04 and now I have messed it up. First I did this: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ondrej/php5-oldstable Then I did this: sudo apt-get update Then finally I did this: sudo apt-get install php5 And now I am getting an error message about Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) What have I done wrong? • Can't send mail from Windows Phone (Postfix server)

  Some background: I have a Dovecot/Postfix setup to handle email for a few domains. We have imap and smtp setup on various devices (Macs, iPhones, PCs, etc) and it works no problem. I've recently bought a Windows Phone and I'm trying to setup the mail account on there. • Persistent static routes fail on MacOS 10.6.5 startup!

  I'm unable to get static routes to persist a reboot on Mac OS 10.6.5. I've tried all of the methods prescribed in Google search results, and previous posts on this site. I've tried manually creating a launchd daemon, and used RouteSplit's launchd daemon to no avail. It's clear that the interface is not ready when these methods attempt to apply the route. This workstation in question is getting its IP from DHCP and probably hasn't gotten its DHCP lease when the command runs. We're able to apply the route by hand when logged in, but not through startup methods. Is there another way to apply this route by sneaking the command into something later, but before the login window appears to the user? Here is some relevant log info from system.log. You can see the "route: writing to routing socket: Network is unreachable" errors where my launchd script fires off. I've tried adding extra "sleep" and "ipconfig waitall" statements later in the script but this doesn't fly. When a user with an email account on the system sends mail from outside the network, using the server as the relay, to addresses inside the network, the email is delivered.
