• Help with starting up my thin server with Sinatra

  Hi All, I'm a newcomer trying to get my feet wet with Ruby and Sinatra. I followed the Slicehost articles in getting Ruby 1.9.1 setup along with Thin 1.2.7 with a reverse proxy to Nginx. Most things were going pretty smooth until I tried to start up my thin server. Also, is this still the preferred way of running Sinatra on thin? I can get the app working with just running it through Ruby itself: $ ruby myapp.rb == Sinatra/1.0 has taken the stage on 4567 for development with backup from Thin This allows me to see my pages in my sandbox.   How to read the highlighted/Selected Text from any window using c#. i tried 2 approaches. Send "^c" whenever user selects some thing. But in this case my clipboard is flooded with lots of unnecessary data. • Geolocation SQL query not finding exact location

  I have been testing my geolocation query for some time now and I haven't found any issues with it until now. I am trying to search for all cities within a given radius, often times I'm searching for cities surrounding a city using that city's coords, but recently I tried searching around a city and found that the city itself was not returned. I have these cities as an excerpt in my database: city latitude longitude Saint-Mathieu 45.316708 -73.516253 Saint-Édouard 45.233374 -73.516254 Saint-Michel 45.233374 -73.566256 Saint-Rémi 45.266708 -73.616257 But when I run my query around the city of Saint-Rémi, with the following query... SELECT tblcity.city, tblcity.latitude, tblcity.longitude, truncate((degrees(acos( sin(radians(tblcity.latitude)) * sin(radians(45.266708)) + cos(radians(tblcity.latitude)) * cos(radians(45.266708)) * cos(radians(tblcity.longitude - -73.616257) ) ) ) * 69.09*1.6),1) as distance FROM tblcity HAVING distance < 10 ORDER BY distance desc I get these results: city latitude longitude distance Saint-Mathieu 45.316708 -73.516253 9.5 Saint-Édouard 45.233374 -73.516254 8.6 Saint-Michel 45.233374 -73.566256 5.3 The town of Saint-Rémi is missing from the search. So I tried a modified query hoping to get a better result: SELECT tblcity.city, tblcity.latitude, tblcity.longitude, truncate(( 6371 * acos( cos( radians( 45.266708 ) ) * cos( radians( tblcity.latitude ) ) * cos( radians( tblcity.longitude ) - radians( -73.616257 ) ) + sin( radians( 45.266708 ) ) * sin( radians( tblcity.latitude ) ) ) ),1) AS distance FROM tblcity HAVING distance < 10 ORDER BY distance desc But I get the same result... However, if I modify Saint-Rémi's coords slighly by changing the last digit of the lat or long by 1, both queries will return Saint-Rémi. Also, if I center the query on any of the other cities above, the searched city is returned in the results. Can anyone shed some light on what may be causing my queries above to not display the searched city of Saint-Rémi? I have added a sample of the table (with extra fields removed) below. I'm using MySQL 5.0.45, thanks in advance. • jquery sortable item cached? #sortable items: '.class1' filter is not working when class is changed

• Enable real fixed positioning on Samsung Android browsers

  The Android browser, since 2.2, supports fixed positioning, at least under certain circumstances such as when scaling is turned off. I have a simple HTML file with no JS, but the fixed positioning on three Samsung phones I've tried is simply wrong. Instead of true fixed positioning, the header scrolls out of view then pops back into place after the scrolling is done. This doesn't happen on the Android SDK emulator for any configuration I've tested (2.2, 2.3, 2.3 x86, 4.0.4). It also doesn't happen when using the WebView in an app on the Samsung phones: in those cases the positioning works as expected. Is there a way to make the Samsung Android "stock" browser use real fixed positioning? I've tested: 1. Samsung Galaxy 551, Android 2.2 2. Samsung Galaxy S, Android 2.3 3. Edit Judging by the comments and "answers" it seems that maybe I wasn't clear on what I need. I am looking for a meta tag or css rule/hack or javascript toggle which turns off Samsung's broken fixed-positioning and turns on the Android browser's working fixed-positioning. I am not looking for a Javascript solution that adds broken fixed-positioning to a browser that has no support whatsoever; the Samsung fixed-positioning does that already, it just looks stupid.

  Hi all this is my first Question here! Im just making my first steps with (Ext-) GWT. I´m testing the Ext-GWT libraries and really: These are absolute great! Now my question: Is it possible to make a kind of "clear-Portal" or "hide all portles" for a defined Portal? Or have i always manually clear the portal like in my example code above? • Web Safe Area (optimal resolution) for web app design

  I'm in the process of designing a new web app and I'm wondering for what 'web safe area' should I optimize the app layout and design. I did some investigation and thinking on my own but wanted to share this to see what the general opinion is. Here is what I found: Optimal Display Resolution: w3schools web stats seems to be the most referenced source (however they state that these are results from their site and is biased towards tech savvy users) http://www.w3counter.com/globalstats.php (aggregate data from something like 15,000 different sites that use their tracking services) StatCounter Global Stats Display Resolution (Stats are based on aggregate data collected by StatCounter on a sample exceeding 15 billion pageviews per month collected from across the StatCounter network of more than 3 million websites) NetMarketShare Screen Resolutions (marketshare.hitslink.com) (a web analytics consulting firm, they get data from browsers of site visitors to their on-demand network of live stats customers. The data is compiled from approximately 160 million visitors per month) Display Resolution Summary: There is a bit of variation between the above sources but in general as of Jan 2011 looks like 1024x768 is about 20%, while ~85% have a higher resolution of at least 1280x768 (1280x800 is the most common of these with 15-20% of total web, depending on the source; 1280x1024 and 1366x768 follow behind with 9-14% of the share). My guess would be that the higher resolution values will be even more common if we filter on North America, and even higher if we filter on N.American corporate users (unfortunately I couldn't find any free geographically filtered statistics). Another point to note is that the 1024x768 desktop user population is likely lower than the aforementioned 20%, seeing as the iPad (1024x768 native display) is likely propping up those number. My recommendation would be to optimize around the 1280x768 constraint (*note: 1280x768 is actually a relatively rare resolution, but I think it's a valid constraint range considering that 1366x768 is relatively common and 1280 is the most common horizontal resolution). Browser + OS Constraints: To further add to the constraints we have to subtract the space taken up by the browser (assuming IE, which is the most space consuming) and the OS (assuming WinXP-Win7): Win7 has the biggest taskbar footprint at a height of 40px (XP's and Vista's is 30px) The default IE8 view uses up 25px at the bottom of the screen with the status bar and a further 120px at the top of the screen with the windows title bar and the browser UI (assuming the default 'favorites' toolbar is present, it would instead be 91px without the favorites toolbar). Assuming no scrollbar, we also loose a total of 4px horizontally for the window outline. This means that we are left with 583px of vertical space and 1276px of horizontal. In other words, a Web Safe Area of 1276 x 583 Is this a correct line of thinking? I tried to Google some design best practices but most still talk about designing around 1024x768 which seems to be quickly disappearing. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

  I'm trying to create a dump file of a folder in my SVN repository.(My goal is to import this dump on another repository, but that's another story). I've read like 20 pages about this and they all tell me to use svndumpfilter but I can't seem to make it work. • How to limit JTextArea max Rows and Coloums?

  I am using JTextArea in JScrollPane I want to limit the maximum number of lines possible and the maximum chars in each line. I need that the string will be exactly like on the screen, each line will end with '\n' (if there another line after it) and the user will be able to insert only X lines and Y chars in each line. I tried to limit the lines but i don't know exactly how many lines do i have because of the line wrapping, The line wrapping is starting new line visualy on the screen(because of the width of the JTextArea) but in the string of the component it is really the same line with no '\n' to indicate new line. I do not have an idea how to limit the max chars in each line while typing. There are 2 stages: The typing of the string- keep that the user will not be able to type more then X lines and Y chars in each line. (even if the line wrap only visualy or the user typed '/n') Insert the string to the DB- after cliking 'OK' convert the string that every line will end with "/n" even if the user did not typed it and the line was wrapped only visualy. There are few problems if i will count the chars in the line and insert '/n' in the end of the line, thats why i decided to do it in two stages. In the first stage ehile the user is typing i would rather only limit it visualy and force line wrpping or something similar. Only in the second stage when i save string i will add the '/n' even if the user did not typed it in the end of the lines! Does anyone have an idea? I know that i will have to use DocumentFilter OR StyledDocument.   I've got an old Juniper SSG5 running ScreenOS 5.4.0r6.0. Once a day, more or less, it'll start randomly dropping packets at a rate of ~5-10%. We currently solve this issue by simply rebooting the unit, after which it resumes working in perfect condition. As this error has started appearing randomly, without any configuration or hardware changes, I'm assuming I've got an aging unit about to fail. As such, I've got a replacement SSG5 running ScreenOS 6.0. I've dumped the config on the 5.4 and imported it into a clean 6.0, and it seems to gladly accept it, and all my configuration seems to be A-OK. However, upon connecting the new unit, all outside-initiated connections seem to be blocked. If I browse our external IP from the inside, everything works perfectly, and it's not just port 80, SSH, Crashplan - all of our policies route correctly. All normal networking, initiated from the inside, work perfectly as well. If on the other hand I browse our external IP from the outside, everything is blocked. Barring differences between ScreenOS 5.4 and 6.0, the config is identical. For FF one of the suggested solution FF stores page zoom level for future. So on first page load would I be able to get zoom level? Somewhere I read it works if you're changing zoom level on that page after its loaded. Is there a way to trap 'zoom' event?   Hello, I'm writing a selenium grid test suite which is going to be run on a series of different machines. I wrote most of it on my macbook but have recently transfered it over to my work machine, which is running ubuntu 9.04. That's actually my first experience with a linux machine, so I may be missing something very simple (I have disabled the firewall though). I haven't been able to get the multienvironment thing working at all, and I've been trying and manual reviewing for a while. Any recommendations and help would be greatly, greatly appreciated!   Hi, I have been working for a couple of days on a problem with my application running on an embedded Arm Linux platform. Unfortunately the platform precludes me from using any of the usual useful tools for finding the exact issue. When the same code is run on the PC running Linux, I get no such error. In the sample below, I can reliably reproduce the problem by uncommenting the string, list or vector lines. Leaving them commented results in the application running to completion. I expect that something is corrupting the heap, but I cannot see what? The program will run for a few seconds before giving a segmentation fault. • "RFC 2833 RTP Event" Consecutive Events and the E "End" Bit

  Hello, I can send out a RFC 2833 dtmf event as outlined at http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2833.txt When I do set the E "End" bit, but leave it as 0, I get the following behaviour: If for example keys 7874556332111111145855885#3 were pressed, then ALL events would be sent and show up in a program like wireshark, however only 87456321458585#3 would sound. So the first key (which I figure could be a separate issue) and any repeats of an event (ie 11111) are failing to sound. In section 3.9, figure 2 of the above linked document, they give a 911 example. Here all but the last event have the E bit set. When I set the bit for all numbers, I never get an event to sound. I have thought of a couple possible thing but do not know if they are the reason: 1) figure 2 shows payload types of 96 and 97 sent. I have not nor know how to exactly. • Cisco ASA: Allowing and Denying VPN Access based on membership to an AD group

  I have a Cisco ASA 5505 connecting to an Active Directory server for VPN authentication. Usually we'd restrict this to a particular OU, but in this case users which need access are spread across multiple OUs. So, I'd like to use a group to specify which users have remote access. I've created the group and added the users, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to deny users which aren't in that group. Right now, if someone connects they get assigned the correct group policy "companynamera" if they are in that group, so the LDAP mapping is working. However, users who are not in that group still authenticate fine, and their group policy becomes the LDAP path of their first group, i.e. CN=Domain Users,CN=Users,DC=example,DC=com, and then are still allowed access. How do I add a filter so that I can map everything that isn't "companynamera" to no access? • Custom EntityNotFoundDelegate

  Hi all, I get a org.hibernate.ObjectNotFoundException when I want to delete an object which doesn't exist anymore via hibernate. I just want this exception to be ignored. I could catch the exception and ignore, this would be a solution maybe. But, since there is a hibernate support for ignoring this exception through org.hibernate.cfg.Configuration#entityNotFoundDelegate, I would like to use its advantage and control it using configuration. The question is then, how can I introduce my own/custom implementation of EntityNotFoundDelegate to the org.hibernate.cfg.Configuration? Does anybody have a sample code for me? Just an additional tip, I use Spring Framework as well in my project. • Access Database using do.cmd openform where clasue - returning all values

  DoCmd.OpenForm "Database Search", acFormDS, , srcLastName & "AND " & srcFirstName This is only a small sample of the where clause - there are many more terms. First, there is a set of If, Then type tings up top that set the variable srcLastName and srcFirstName to some value. These are not the problem and work just fine. The trouble is getting them to return all values (for instance if you only want to search by one, on neither(return full database list)) Thus far I have settled for (in the if then section): srcLastName = "[Lastname] =" & Chr(34) & cboLastName & Chr(34) - to search for something and srcLastName = "[Lastname] <" & Chr(34) & "Nuthin" & Chr(34) - to return everything (not equal to an absurd and mispelled database term.) The trouble is that data that is null is also not returned. If I have a null firstname, it will not show up in any search period. is there a term I can set [lastname] and [firstname] equal to that will return EVERYTHING (null, open, data, numbers, wierd stuff and otherwise) in a search an SQL form of "give me everything shes got scotty" if you will. the real issue here comes from the data entry - if I could just know that the people would enter everything 100% of the time, this code would work. but forget to enter the persons age or whatever, and it wont return that entry. So far, the only other solution I have come up with is to put a counter in each if then statement. The count will go up by one for each thing that is being searched by. Then if the count is = 1, then I can search by something like just DoCmd.OpenForm "Database Search", acFormDS, , srcLastName or DoCmd.OpenForm "Database Search", acFormDS, , srcFirstName then revert back to the DoCmd.OpenForm "Database Search", acFormDS, , srcLastName & "AND " & srcFirstName when the count is 2 or more truoble here is that it only works for one (unless I so wanted to create a custon list of 2 combined, 3 combined, 4 combined, but that is not happening)

I know that in this sample scenario it would be easy to replace the GroupViewModel with a string an have it working, but that's not an option. So how can I bind the HeaderTemplate to the GroupViewModel?

• Convert a PDF to a Transparent PNG with GhostScript

  Hi all. I am attempting, unsuccessfully, to use Ghostscript to rasterize PDF files with a transparent background to PNG files with a transparent background. I've searched high and low for questions from others attempting the same thing and none of the posted solutions, which as far as I can tell come down to specifying -sDEVICE=pngalpha, have worked with my test files. At this point I would really appreciate any advice or tips a more experienced hand could provide. My test PDF is located here: http://www.kolossus.com/files/test.pdf It could be that the issue is with this file, but I doubt it. As far as I can tell, it has no specified background, and when I open the file with a transparency-aware app like Photoshop or Illustrator, sure enough it displays with a transparent background. However, when opened with an application like Adobe Reader the file is rendered with a white background. I believe that this has more to do with the application rendering the PDF than with the PDF itself -- apps like Adobe Reader assume you want to see what a printed document will look like and therefore always show a white canvas behind the artwork -- but I can't be sure. The gs command I'm using is: gs -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -sDEVICE=pngalpha -r72 -sOutputFile=test.png test.pdf This produces a PNG that has transparent pixels outside of the bounding box of the artwork in the file, but all pixels that are inside the artwork's bounding box are rasterized against a white background. This is a problem for me, as my artwork has drop shadows and antialiased edges that need to be preserved in the final output, and can't just be postprocessed out with ImageMagick. A sample of my PNG output is at the same location as the pdf above, with .png at the end (stackoverflow won't let me include more than one url in my post). Interestingly, I see no effects from using the -dBackgroundColor flag, even if I set it to something non-white like -dBackgroundColor=16#ff0000. Perhaps my understanding of the syntax of this flag is wrong. Also interestingly, I see no effects from using the -dTextAlphaBits=4 -dGraphicsAlphaBits=4 flags to try to enable subpixel antialiasing. I would also appreciate any advice on how to enable subpixel antialiasing, especially on text. Finally, I'm using GPL Ghostscript 8.64 on Mac OS 10.5.7, and the rendering workflow I'm trying to get set up is to generate transparent PNG images from PDFs output by PrinceXML. I'm calling Ghostscript directly for the rasterization instead of using ImageMagick because ImageMagick delegates to Ghostscript for PDF rasterization and I should be able to control the rasterization better by calling GS directly.
