  • How do you get the width of an element without a defined width?

    How would you find out the width of a element that is wrapped by 20 odd other elements, but the only fixed width I know is the main wrapper's which is 800px. All child elements are generally blocks, floating or not, with different paddings and margins. I don't really need the answer to a specific case, I'm just wondering if there are tools or tricks to quickly calculate such things. Thanks

  • How to make a DIV scrollable instead of BODY?

    hi I want my page's BODY not to be scrollable but a DIV inside the BODY should be scrollable. I have this in my css file: body { overflow:hidden } .mainSection { overflow:scroll } but it doesn't work and the DIV doesn't become scrollabel (it just shows two disabled scroll bars for the DIV)!

  • Unordered list appears higher than div

    I am trying to create a simple page, which I normally can without any trouble. However, the unordered list appears higher up the page than the div. I do know a solution for this, however I cannot remember it.     I need a special regular expression, have no experience in them whatsoever so I am turning to you guys on this one: I need to validate a classifieds title field so it doesn't have any special characters in it, almost. Only letters and numbers should be allowed, and also the swedish three letters å, ä, ö, and also not case sensitive. Besides the above, these should also be allowed: The "&" sign. Parenthesis sign "()" Mathematical signs "-", "+", "%", "/", "*" Dollar and Euro signs Accent sign or whatever it's called, for example in "coupé" the apostrophe above the "e".     I need a formula for showing results on my classifieds website. I am now done with the paging of records, but this formula for showing results remains. I want it like this: Showing 1-50 of 123 found. Now what is the formula for this? I have these variables which should be enough I think: $results_per_page = 50; //results per page $page = 1; //current page Also a variable called $num_total contains the total nr of hits, in this case 123.   • How come this relative positioned div is displayed differently in IE?

    What is with these microsoft browsers? Does microsoft ever do a good job at anything... Anyways, I have a relative positioned div inside another div. The inside-div is positioned with percentage (left: 0%; top:13%). My problem is that in all IE versions the div is displayed some pixels further down than where it is displayed in Chrome, or FF...   • Very simple mod_rewrite questions

    1- Does mod_rewrite means that if I make this url: domain.com/ad.php?id=8498292 INTO domain.com/8498292 that all links on my website will have to be changed to the later above? example the link: domain.com/ad.php?id=8498292 wont work now, unless I replace it with domain.com/8498292 ? Or will the server know that they are the same still? 2- Will the rewritten link appear rewritten in the browsers adress bars also, so if I enter domain.com/ad.php?id=8498292 it will actually appear as domain.com/8498292 in the adress bar itself? 3- Will images and all other related links and material on the page whose link is rewritten remain intact? ie will pictures and links still work FROM that page which are relative?     Hi. I would like to set the focus on the first element of the page using JQuery when the page is loaded. I could successfully set the focus for first element by using $(":input:visible:first").focus(); or $(':input:enabled:visible:first').focus(); , according to jquery, set focus on the first enabled input or select or textarea on the page . I tried to use something like $('select:first').focus(); or $("select").first().focus(); or $(':visible:first').focus(); or $('enabled:visible:first').focus(); or other variations I could think of, but have not succeeded. Could anyone help me on this problem? I am a beginner for JQuery. I would like this function to work for all major browsers. Thank you very much!

    I cant seem to show the scrollbar in my iframe. I am making a script that will rotate a page 180 degrees and it uses iframes.   • Browser compatibility; Before or after uploading website to server?

    I am on the stage where I need to make my website cross-browser compatible. I need tips on how to get started. I have developed my website on firefox, so it works great with firefox. I guess I have to download a couple of versions of all major browsers now, right? Then just test each browser one by one? Should I do this before uploading the entire website onto a server or afterwards? All tips and SW which makes this easier is appreciated. BTW, it is a classifieds website using MySql, Solr, PHP, js etc... Thanks

    I would like to center the elements in my form without moving the text or buttons from being aligned on the left. So it would look like this: The bottom square is supposed to be a button. I want it centered, but the <center> tag moves the text and button so they're centered to the input box.   • Disabled Select drop down checking through PHP

    I have a couple of drop down boxes I access through POST with PHP. When the boxes are disabled and not equal to zero I have the program do something. However when they are disabled I do not want them to do anything. The way I check if the boxes are active is by using an if statement if ($_POST['box'] != "blank"){ //do something } So basically I check if the box is not in the default blank position run the if statement. However when it is disabled I am not sure how to check or what kind of value it returns if any. What can I add to the if statement so it will not go into the loop when the boxes are disabled? I tried: if ($_POST['box'] != "blank" || $_POST['box'] != ""){ //do something } But that did not work. Any ideas?

  • Maintain Constant Title Across Website

    If I am creating a website in ASP.NET, is it possible to programmatically set the title of the page be some predefined value with some extra information tacked on? For example: Home Page Title = Site Name Links Title = Site Name: Links Stuff Title = Site Name: Stuff Basically, whatever I defined as the main title on the page I'm currently on, I want to tack ": Name" onto the end of the title so it stays consistent across the website. I was thinking of defining it as a ContentPlaceHolder and wrapping some logic around it, but it doesn't appear to work how I thought it would (AKA, not at all).
