  • Apache keeps adding 8080 port by itself while I'm telling it to use 80 only

    Here's my httpd.conf. Inside it, I have the following in place #Listen 12.34.56.78:80 #Listen 127.0.0.1:8887 Listen 127.0.0.1:80 #Listen 127.0.0.1:8080 Listen 192.168.1.4:80 and I have a .htaccess RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^wordpress(.*)$ wp-oct/live$1 in my local www folder with wordpress installed in /wp-oct/live/ to which /wordpress/ is supposed to redirect to, but it doesn't. It instead redirects to http://localhost:8080/wp-oct/live/. Why is 8080 showing up?

    In Apache2 documentation thay say that in <VirtualHost *:80>, the * can be replaced by IP or FQDN, but the FQDN is not recommended. Addr can be: The IP address of the virtual host; A fully qualified domain name for the IP address of the virtual host (not recommended); But why is it not recommended? If I have www.mydomain.com and webmail.mydomain.com pointing to the same IP address, why shouldn't I use the names here?

  • a couple of questions about proxy server,vpn & how they works

    I have a couple of questions that are related to security. Correct me if i'm wrong :) If I want to request something (ex: visiting www.google.com): my computer will request that then it will to the ISP then to my ISP proxy server that will take the request and act as a middle man in this situation ask for the site (www.google.com) and retrieve it then the proxy will send it back to me. I know that its being done like that. So, my question is that, in this situation my ISP knows everything and what I did request, and the proxy server is set by default (when I ask for an internet subscription). So, if I use here another proxy (lets assume that is a highly anonymous and my ISP can't detect my IP address from it), would I visit my ISP and then from my ISP it will redirect me to the new proxy server that I provide? Will it know that there is someone using another proxy? Or will it go to another network rather than my ISP? Because I didn't get the view clearly. This question is related to the first one. When I use a VPN, I know that VPN provides for me a tunneling, encryption and much more features that a proxy can't. So my data is travelling securely and my ISP can't know what I'm doing. But my questions are: From where is the tunneling started? Does it start after I visit the ISP network (since they are the one that are responsible for forwarding my data and requests)? If so, then not all my connection is tunneled in this way, there is a part that is not being tunneled. Since, every time I need to do anything I have to go to my ISP and ask to do that. Correct me if I misunderstand this. I know that VPN can let my computer be virtually in another place and access its resources (ex: be like in my office while I'm in my home. This is done via VPN). If I use a VPN service provider so that I can access the internet securely and without being monitored by my ISP. In this case, where is my encrypted data saved? Is it saved in my ISP or in the VPN service provider? If I use a VPN, does anyone on the internet know what I'm doing or who I am? Even the VPN service provider? Can they know me? I think they should know the person that is asking for this VPN service, am I right?

    Is there a way I can get this behavior on Mac OS? alt + right-click-drag will resize the window, relative to where you've clicked within the window and the window's center alt + left-click-drag will move the window, regardless of where you've clicked within the window.     When I plug a USB thumb drive into my Win7 PC, it no longer auto-launches the window giving me options like "Import Photos" or "browse". The drive is recognized but nothing autolaunches. Similarly, CD's don't autoplay either.   • Install Windows control panel applet in Wine

    I want to add the bthprops.cpl dll (The bluetooth control panel applet) to my wine install under Ubuntu 10.04 since it is required for Dolphin Emulator. http://www.dolphin-emulator.com/ I copied the file from my windows install into the System32 folder in .wine and into the folder where the application I am trying to run is, but wine still fails to load it. Is there anything else I need to do to make the dll accessible for wine programs? (Please don't suggest the native linux Version of Dolphin as a fix - it is not working for me)

    I'm deploying my first django app. I'm familiar with nginx and fastcgi from deploying php-fpm. I can't get python to recognize the urls. I'm also at a loss on how to debug this further. If one CPU has 4 cores (such as Intel Core i7 which comes in 2, 4, and 6 core versions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core_i7#Core_i7), does that mean that the benchmark should be double that of the version that has 2 cores (assuming the same clock frequency)?
