• How do I get a reference to a rootViewController to a sub-view?

  An answer posted for one of my previous questions brings up another question; I am calling a new view controller, "RuleBuilder," from my rootViewController. The rootViewController holds a reference to a contacts array. How do I get a reference to that array into the RuleBuilder? I tried adding UITableViewController *rootViewController; ... @property (nonatomic, retain) UITableViewController *rootViewController; to RuleBuilder.h, and then @synthesize rootViewController; in RuleBuilder.m. When I instantiate and push the RuleBuilder from within rootViewController, I do this: ruleBuilder.rootViewController = self; But when I try this [rootViewController.contacts addObject:newContact]; from within RuleBuilder, I get a compiler error to the effect of "request for 'contacts' in something not a struct" (or very similar; I haven't implemented this exact snippet of code, but I tried an identical approach not an hour ago for a couple of different references that I never was able to get working). • In Android, does _id have to be present in any table created?

  I am trying to create a table to only has a foreign key, not a primary key. I am getting this error: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: column '_id' does not exist I read a tutorial that the primary key must be _id, with no explanation. And that is fine. But what if I do not want a primary key! What if I only want a foreign key. I am assuming this is where my problem lies. The schemas below are what I have. • jQuery is only returning first item

  For some strange reason, whenever I have a selector and expect to get multiple items, jQuery is only returning the first item, instead of the entire collection. This is the HTML I have: <a id="reply-424880" class="reply" href="#" rel="nofollow">Reply</a> <a id="reply-424885" class="reply" href="#" rel="nofollow">Reply</a> And the selector: $('.reply').unbind('click').click(function(event) { ... } I have tried debugging using FireBug, and still get the same results. Using the work around I can get it to work: $('a').each(function (index, element) { if ($(element).attr('class') == 'reply') { $(this).unbind('click').click(function(event) { ... }); } }); I would like to use the built-in functionality instead of my work around. Any idea why only the first element would be returned?

• wordpress not properly functioning anymore after moving it to another domain

  Hi, I followed the instructions on http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress under 'Moving WordPress to a New Server' and 'If You Want Your Old Blog To Still Work' So I made a copy of everything marked is as old, then changed the domain under the WP settings, made a new copy. And now put the first copy back but when I go to the login page I can reach it, but it's without the usual markup as first. It's all skinned out. After I login, worpress uses the new domain instead of the old domain which the old copy of wordpress used!! what went wrong?? thanks.

• Splitting a UL into three even lists

  I am printing a menu using UL, the trouble is the order that is generated by my script is ignored because im printing the LI one after the other and they're spanning three across. So the order is 1 , 2 , 3 as opposed to 1 2 3 To counteract this i wanted to split my single UL into three that way the order would be maintained. • Corona SDK - Make a character pass through a platform

  I'm building a game that has a character which should jump up on multiple platforms. The jumping functionality is done, but I would like if the character is just below a platform (static body), when I press the "jump" button, the character should pass through that platform and then sit on it. Right now it collides with the platform, and character cannot jump on it. Do you have any idea how this can be achieved? Right now the platforms are represented by rectangles with "static" body type: local platform = display.newRect( 50, 280, 150, 10 ) platform:setFillColor ( 55, 55, 55) physics.addBody ( platform, "static", {density=1.0, friction=1.0, bounce=0 }) And I was thinking if I could change, or remove the body type of platform when the character collids with it, so he can pass trough platform, but I don't know how to do this, or in general if this will work... maybe there are some built in techniques on how to achieve the effect I want?

  I'm going to preface this question with this statement: I know that I can easily handle this problem by reading the amount of lines in a file and making an array that size. I am not allowed to do this. Anyway, here is my question. • Getting Ramped for Silverlight 4

  Here is a quick walk through of setting up your Silverlight 4 development environment.  The first assumed step is that you have Visual Studio 2010 already installed and any appropriate patches.  Then download the following in order and install each. Silverlight 4 Tools RC2 for Visual Studio and Silverlight 4 RTW Expression Blend 4 Release Candidate Silverlight Toolkit - Not necessary, but lots of good bits in this download. WCF RIA Services - This is also not necessary, but you should grab it just in case anyway. Once each of these are installed jump into Visual Studio 2010.  Start a new Silverlight 4 Project by going to File -> New -> Project -> and select the Silverlight Project Templates.  Here you'll see a new list of projects that are specific to the above listed downloads. Silverlight Business Application WCF RIA Service Class Library Silverlight Unit Test Application One way to confirm (and what I am going to display here in this entry) Silverlight 4 is installed ok is to select the Silverlight Application Template and start a new project. On the next screen you will see some of the standard options.  I always go with the ASP.NET MVC Option and with these new installations I am going to select Silverlight 4 (should be selected already) from the drop down and check the Enable WCF RIA Services check box. I also, for good measure, always create a unit test project for the ASP.NET MVC Project that will host the Silverlight Application Project.  When all is setup, the Solutions Explorer should look like what is shown below. Add the following code to the XAML of the MainPage.xaml of the Silverlight Project. <UserControl x:Class="Silverlight4.MainPage" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" mc:Ignorable="d" d:DesignHeight="300" d:DesignWidth="400">   <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="White"> <TextBlock x:Name="textBlockTest" Text="Hello World!" /> </Grid> </UserControl> Now execute the project, if all runs well you have installed Silverlight 4 successfully. • Mount external hdd in fluxbox ubuntu -12.04 commandline install

  I did the following: Install command line interface with ubuntu alternate install 12.04 in vmwareplayer5(9.2.2) After the base system was installed: sudo apt-get update, upgrade and dist-upgrade, sudo apt-get install xinit xorg fluxbox build-essential lxterminal gksu leafpad pcmanfm mc chromium-browser, this works. I also installed vmwaretools. My problem is being unable to mount any usb hdd or thumb drives. I'm new at building fluxbox so any help would be much appreciated!

  I am attempting to setup Multicraft on my server, all is running smoothly however the FTP won't allow anyone to connect from a remote FTP client, where net2ftp will work smoothly from a remote location. • SQL analytical mash-ups deliver real-time WOW! for big data

  One of the overlooked capabilities of SQL as an analysis engine, because we all just take it for granted, is that you can mix and match analytical features to create some amazing mash-ups. As we move into the exciting world of big data these mash-ups can really deliver those "wow, I never knew that" moments. While Java is an incredibly flexible and powerful framework for managing big data there are some significant challenges in using Java and MapReduce to drive your analysis to create these "wow" discoveries. One of these "wow" moments was demonstrated at this year's OpenWorld during Andy Mendelsohn's general keynote session.  Here is the scenario - we are looking for fraudulent activities in our big data stream and in this case we identifying potentially fraudulent activities by looking for specific patterns. We using geospatial tagging of each transaction so we can create a real-time fraud-map for our business users. Where we start to move towards a "wow" moment is to extend this basic use of spatial and pattern matching, as shown in the above dashboard screen, to incorporate spatial analytics within the SQL pattern matching clause. This will allow us to compute the distance between transactions. Apologies for the quality of this screenshot….hopefully below you see where we have extended our SQL pattern matching clause to use location of each transaction and to calculate the distance between each transaction: This allows us to compare the time of the last transaction with the time of the current transaction and see if the distance between the two points is possible given the time frame. Obviously if I buy something in Florida from my favourite bike store (may be a new carbon saddle for my Trek) and then 5 minutes later the system sees my credit card details being used in Arizona there is high probability that this transaction in Arizona is actually fraudulent (I am fast on my Trek but not that fast!) and we can flag this up in real-time on our dashboard: In this post I have used the term "real-time" a couple of times and this is an important point and one of the key reasons why SQL really is the only language to use if you want to analyse  big data. One of the most important questions that comes up in every big data project is: how do we do analysis? Many enlightened customers are now realising that using Java-MapReduce to deliver analysis does not result in "wow" moments. These "wow" moments only come with SQL because it is offers a much richer environment, it is simpler to use and it is faster - which makes it possible to deliver real-time "Wow!". • Native ComboBox not displaying choices correctly

  EDIT: It seems that ListPicker is the way to go but I have had further problems with that detailed Microsoft.Phone.Controls.Toolkit ListPicker throws XamlParseException I have the following ComboBox in code: <ComboBox x:Name="Result" Grid.Column="6" HorizontalAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Center" Foreground="Black" Background="White"> <ComboBoxItem Content="Win" /> <ComboBoxItem Content="Place" /> <ComboBoxItem Content="Lose" /> </ComboBox> But it does not display as I would have expected.   Hackage has several packages for monad transformers: mtl: Monad transformer library transformers: Concrete functor and monad transformers monads-fd: Monad classes, using functional dependencies monads-tf: Monad classes, using type families monadLib: A collection of monad transformers. mtl-tf: Monad transformer library using type families mmtl: Modular Monad transformer library mtlx: Monad transformer library with type indexes, providing 'free' copies. compose-trans: Composable monad transformers (and maybe I missed some) Which one shall we use? mtl is the one in the Haskell Platform, but I keep hearing on reddit that it's uncool. But what's bad about choice anyway, isn't it just a good thing? Well, I saw how for example the authors of data-accessor had to make all these to cater to just the popular choices: data-accessor-monadLib library: Accessor functions for monadLib's monads data-accessor-monads-fd library: Use Accessor to access state in monads-fd State monad class data-accessor-monads-tf library: Use Accessor to access state in monads-tf State monad type family data-accessor-mtl library: Use Accessor to access state in mtl State monad class data-accessor-transformers library: Use Accessor to access state in transformers State monad I imagine that if this goes on and for example several competing Arrow packages evolve, we might see something like: spoonklink-arrows-transformers, spoonklink-arrows-monadLib, spoonklink-tfArrows-transformers, spoonklink-tfArrows-monadLib, ... And then I worry that if spoonklink gets forked, Hackage will run out of disk space. :) Questions: Why are there so many monad transformer packages? Why is mtl [considered] uncool? What are the key differences? Most of these seemingly competing packages were written by Andy Gill and are maintained by Ross Paterson. Does this mean that these packages are not competing but rather work together in some way? And do Andy and Ross consider any of their own packages as obsolete? Which one should me and you use?

• swap a div to an embed form when user tweets using the @anywhere function box

  I'm using the @anywhere twitter function on the front page of my site (vocabbomb.com) and right now it works great to allow users to tweet straight away. Problem is, when they click tweet, it just reloads the twitter box, empty. I want it to load something new, like a "thank you, now fill in this email form" and show a mailchimp form. Ok so this is the @anywhere code currently working fine: <div id="tbox"></div> <script type="text/javascript"> twttr.anywhere(function (T) { T("#tbox").tweetBox({ height: 100, width: 400, defaultContent: " #vocabbomb", label: "Use the word foo in a tweet:", }); }); </script> So this is fine, and when the user writes a tweet, it just re-displays the twitter box.
