  • Snow Leopard doesn't repair permissions, despite showing / saying its fixed them?

    Sometime ago, I used carbon copy as I was replacing my hard drive in my Mac Mini running Snow Leopard. Afterwards, on my new drive I had some permission problems. I've tried several times running a repair permissions / repair disk from disk util. It shows that there are problems and I think it says its correceted the problems. However the problems remain, what can I do to fix them ?   • Office 2007 constantly crashes, logged as Event ID 1000

    I have a user, who despite my best efforts, is having constant Office 2007 crashes. I've tried deleting their profile and setting it up again, repairing office, uninstalling completely and then reinstalling, and swapping out memory sticks.   • Why doesn't Mail.app properly thread Microsoft Outlook replies?

    I use Mail.app 3.6 (on 10.5 Leopard), and I always use plain-text email. Normally, when I receive an email reply from practically anyone, it looks like this (test message sent from Mail.app, replied from Hotmail, replied from Google Apps): Needless to say, I quite like this threading, and it keeps everything very visually-organized. However, when I receive a plain-text email reply from people on Microsoft Outlook (tested with Outlook 2003 & 2007), it isn't threaded like the image. Instead, it appears as below, without being threaded nicely. My reply to the message. -----Original Message----- From: Tyson Moore [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: [Date] To: [Receiver] Subject: Test Original message. Through looking at the source of my original message, it appears as though every time the message is quoted, less-than signs (<) are inserted before every line in the reply. I am assuming this is what triggers the quoting behaviour exhibited by Mail.app, but I'm no expert. My question: is this a Mail.app limitation in not recognizing the -----Original Message----- line put in by Outlook, or an Outlook problem not inserting > before every line in a reply (or both)?

  • Drag String data from My Cocoa App to Third-Party Cocoa App

    Hello, I want to drag a row from my tableview and drop it into any other NSTextField in Mac OS X 10.6, and have a string of text be dropped. Drag and drop already works within my app (between a NSTableView and an NSBrowser), but I have had no success putting any data on the pasteboard that can accepted by apps other than the source application. Here's the code I tried, which I thought would be enough to get hte word "hello" to be 'pasted' when I drop into some other NSTextField: -(BOOL) tableView:(NSTableView *)tableView writeRowsWithIndexes:(NSIndexSet *)rowIndexes toPasteboard:(NSPasteboard *)pboard { [pboard declareTypes:[NSArray arrayWithObject:NSStringPboardType] owner:self]; [pboard setString:@"hello" forType:NSStringPboardType]; return YES; } //-- I never get the cursor that shows me the drop will be accepted, and it just doesn't work. Things I've tried: Using the 10.5 version of the Pasteboard identifier, NSStringPBoardType Using the 10.6 version, NSPasteboardTypeString. Setting the owner = nil, since I'm not providing the data lazily. Using the keyed archiver: [pboard setData:[NSKeyedArchiver archivedRootObject:@"Hello!!"]] None of the above have worked. I think I have the concepts correct: "Encode data, tell the pasteboard what you've got, then give it the data", but since other apps don't recognize it, I suspect I'm not telling the pasteboard the correct datatype.     I've written many iPhone Applications that have pulled data from web services and I've worked on synchronizing data between an iPhone App and a Web Application, but I've always felt that there is probably a better way to handle the synchronization. I'd like to know what strategies you have used to synchronize data between your iPhone(read: mobile) Apps and your Rails(read: web) Applications. Are there any strategies that scale particularly well? How have you dealt with large amounts of data? (Do you use paged responses?) How do you make sure that data is not overwritten? Is there a reason to avoid Ruby on Rails? if so, can you suggest an alternative? What is better about the alternative? What strategies have failed? Why do you believe that those strategies failed? I would like to be able to keep all of the data modifications on the server, but the particular application I am about to start work on will need the ability to operate while disconnected from the network. The user will be able to update data on the mobile device and update data through the web application. When the user's mobile device connects to the server any local changes will be pushed to the server.

    I need to knock up a very quick prototype/proof of concept application to demo to someone within the next couple of days so I've minimal time to research this as fully as I normally would. The set-up is a very simple database application running on a laptop - will only ever be a single user updating a couple of tables so I was thinking of knocking up a basic Win Forms app against SQL Compact. Visual Studio's auto generated data grid edit screens will be fine with a little customisation. The second aspect is to then add a windows mobile client application that can pull data from both tables stored on the laptop, edit some data and insert some extra rows before sending the changes back to the laptop copy of the database. I've not done any WinMo development so what's the best approach for me to look at. Is it easy enough to sync data between the two databases when the WinMo device is connected to the laptop with USB? Most of the samples I've looked at so far seem to be syncing SQL Compact with SQL Standard using IIS which seems a bit overkill. The volumes of data to be synced are so small that I can easily write some manual sync code if it's easy for me to query/update the Compact DB from the laptop application when the device is connected.

The question is now where do I retrieve a new integer and how do I do it? Actually the ViewModel should ask for a schoolclass POCO and get a SchoolclassModel to bind to the UI. But then I have again to re-read the Schoolclass properties into the SchoolclassModel properties what I want to avoid.

    Hello! I just can't display the button at the bottom of the screen. I have 2 textviews and 2 edittexts set as gone, and they become visible when user clicks checkbox.   • DOM Elements with same id and jQuery

    Hi I have multiple elements with the same structure in my application. Second div element's id varies as per the comment id in the db which is unique. There are elements with the id 'vote_up' and 'vote_down'. This gets repeated for each comment.What happens is that, as I mentioned, there are multiple comments. I want to perform an Ajax request. First of this structure functions properly using ajax, but the rest does an http request.     This post shows you how to host a Silverlight application in the Google App Engine (GAE) platform. You deploy and host your Silverlight application on Google’s infrastructure by creating a configuration file and uploading it along with your application files. I tested this by uploading an old demo of mine - the four stroke engine silverlight demo. It is currently being served by the GAE over here: http://fourstrokeengine.appspot.com/ The steps to run your Silverlight application in GAE are as follows: Account Creation Create an account at http://appengine.google.com/. You are allocated a free quota at signup. Select “Create an Application”   Verify your account by SMS   Create your application by clicking on “Create an Application”   Pick an application identifier on the next screen. The identifier has to be unique. You will use this identifier when uploading your application. The application you create will by default be accessible at [applicationidentifier].appspot.com. You can also use custom domains if needed (refer to the docs).   Save your application. Download SDK  We will use the  Windows Launcher for Google App Engine tool to upload our apps (it is possible to do the same through command line). This is a GUI for creating, running and deploying applications. The launcher lets you test the app locally before deploying it to the GAE. This tool is available in the Google App Engine SDK. The GUI is written in Python and therefore needs an installation of Python to run. Download and install the Python Binaries from here: http://www.python.org/download/ Download and install the Google App Engine SDK from here: http://code.google.com/appengine/downloads.html Run the GAE Launcher. Select Create New Application.   On the next dialog, give your application a name (this must match the identifier we created earlier) For Parent Directory, point to the directory containing your Silverlight files. Change the port if you want to. The port is used by the GAE local web server. The server is started if you choose to run the application locally for testing purposes. Hit Save. The app is loaded in your default web browser pointing to http://localhost:8080/. Make sure the application works as expected. We are now ready to deploy. Click the “Deploy” icon. You will be prompted for your username and password. Hit OK. The files will get uploaded and you should get a dialog telling you to “close the window”. We are done uploading our Silverlight application. Go to http://appengine.google.com/ and launch the application by clicking on the link in the “Current Version” column.   You should be taken to a URL which points to your application running in Google’s infrastructure : http://fourstrokeengine.appspot.com/. We are done deploying our application!   • Can I make Terminal.app open different profiles with shortcut like iTerm?

    I've been using iTerm for a while, but I switched back to Terminal.app in Snow Leopard due to the Visor plugin. Most of thing works pretty well after I switched to Terminal.app, except in iTerm, I can create different profiles and assign each profile with key shortcut. The advantage of this setup is that I can have non-transparency and transparency profile. If I need to look up a command on the background, I can start a transparency shell, and vice versa. I was thinking to use Mac built-in "Application shortcut" in System preference. Though, I realize in Terminal.app, the "New Window" and "New Tab" have the same profile names, so the Application shortcut is confused and I can't assign a shortcut to it... Any thought on how to change menu name on Terminal (or even better, any application?) Thanks for your help.

    I installed the Droid@Screen plugin into NetBeans IDE 8 so that you can see the Android device that I held in my hand while doing the demo below. The demo shows the usage of the Terminal window to create an Ionic Framework application (from "tabs", which is one of the cool templates that the framework provides), i.e., that means I can use AngularJS to create a Cordova application out of the box, with many mobile-oriented components available out of the box. Then I deploy the app to the Chrome browser on Android, which means I can interact with it in NetBeans, e.g., for CSS styling and JavaScript debugging. In this demo, I show how the background color of the deployed app can be changed live from NetBeans. After that, once I'm happy with the styling, I deploy the app again, but this time as a Cordova app, i.e., a hybrid HTML5 application, which means the app is packaged as a native app and deployed directly to the device from NetBeans.   • Is it legal to ask photo ID and credit card copy in the U.S

    I regularly order from online shops around the world and I have not see any case where the company asks for photo ID or credit card copy. Yesterday I make an order from linode.com and my order is on hold because of their "fraud check system". Is it common to ask those info in U.S. where I have never asked such info in here (Istanbul, Turkey). And I already asked what is their motive and legal stand and the reason my order is hold by their fraud system. And I also added whether is because I live in Istanbul, Turkey. Their answer was as following: "We would not be able to disclose specific information related to our fraud system." And I'm asked repeatedly whether I want to cancel my order or not. I dont questioning reputation of linode.com if I think so, I did not make an order. I think asking for photo ID is neither legal nor provide any security.

    Our sysadmin team edits the field Message-ID in exim4 header files (ending with -H) and substitues the first char after "<". e.g: 077I Message-ID: <[email protected] -- 077I Message-ID: <[email protected] I'd like to write a script to release the mails. I changed the part between "<" and "@" in the field Message-ID and substituted a hash value so the Message-ID looks like: 077I Message-ID: <[email protected] Now exim says "format error" in the log and the mail is not released. There was no change except for this one field. Why can't the ID be substituted like that? Does it need to be the exact same length? It's exim4 version 4.69-2ubuntu0.3.

  • How to remove an email which is stuck in the outbox of the Windows 8 Mail app

    It's already the second time, I have an E-Mail in the outbox of the Mail-app of Windows 8 which is stuck. I don't see the exact reason why this happens (I have no big files attached to the mails and the recipient is valid). The first time I have had this problem, I have not found a simple way to remove the stucked email. I solved the Problem by removing the accounts from the mail app and then adding the same accounts newly to the app. However I'm wondering if there is a more simple way of doing this? Does someone know how to remove an email which is stuck in the outbox?
