    I'm working on a program that determines if lines intersect. I'm using matrices to do this. I understand all the math concepts, but I'm new to Python and NumPy. I want to add my slope variables and yint variables to a new matrix. They are all floats. I can't seem to figure out the correct format for entering them. Here's an example: import numpy as np x = 2 y = 5 w = 9 z = 12 I understand that if I were to just be entering the raw numbers, it would look something like this: matr = np.matrix('2 5; 9 12') My goal, though, is to enter the variable names instead of the ints.

    I am trying to pass some JavaScript variables that I have assigned to form variables into a query string used by a jQuery plug in called fancybox.   • supervisord environment variables setting up application

    I'm running an application from supervisord and I have to set up an environment for it. There are about 30 environment variables that need to be set. I've tried putting all on one big environment= line and that doesn't seem to work. I've also tried multiple enviroment= lines, and that doesn't seem to work either. I've also tried both with and without ' around the env value. What's the best way to set up my environment such that it remains intact under supervisord control? Should I be calling my actual program (tornado, fwiw) from a shell script with the environment preloaded there? Ideally, I'd like to put all of the enviroment variables into an include file and load them with supervisor, but I'm open to doing it another way.

    Currently I have this: function parse_string($string, $variables){ extract($variables); return eval('return "'. addcslashes($string, '"') .'";'); } So I can input this string: 'Hi {$name}, my name is {$own_name}' Together with this array: array('name' => 'John', 'own_name' => 'Tom') And get this back: 'Hi John, my name is Tom'   I've never liked this eval() approach but it works and it's fast (faster than regex at least). Question: Is there a more elegant way to do this (faster than using regex) in PHP5?

    I am doing web based projects in dotnet. Currently I am implementing security using session variables. I keep current user id and user type in session and authenticate user from these session variables (say Session["UserId"],Session["UserName"] and Session["UserType"]). Please help me understand how this could be insecure. I've heard that such security can be broken and applications can be hacked very easily, like it is possible to get session id and directly connect to that session id etc. Please guide me on this.

    My User entity class have several member variables (e.g. String firstName) which are persisted and some transient variables (e.g. transient boolean selected) which are not. I have used the transient variable to capture a checkbox selection, but invariably the value never gets set and procesed properly until I set another bean value along with it. i.e. If User has firstName (mapped to a text field) and selected (mapped to a checkbox) If I just selected the value doesn't seem to be set on an update If I had selected the checkbox and the firstName field, the "selected" value is captured properly Can anyone tell me why this is happening?

    Hey guys, I was wondering what happens when a program processes an if-structure with multiple conditions. I have an idea, but i'm not sure about it. I'll give an example : List<string> myTestList = null; if (myTestList != null && myTestList.Count > 0) { //process } The list is null. When processing the if, will it go from left to right exiting the if as soon as one condition is false? I've tried it and seems to throw no errors, so i assume the above explains it, but i'm not sure. Thanks in advance.

    I am trying to modify a number of environmental variables containing predefined compiler flags. To do so, I tried using a bash loop that goes over all environmental variables listed with "env". for i in $(env | grep ipo | awk 'BEGIN {FS="="} ; { print $1 } ' ) do echo $(sed -e "s/-ipo/ / ; s/-axAVX/ /" <<< $i) done This is not working since the loop variable $i contains just the name of the environmental variable stored as a character string. I tried searching a method to convert a string into a variable but things started becoming unnecessary complicated. The basic problem is how to properly supply the environmental variable itself to sed. Any ideas how to properly modify my script are welcome. Thanks, Alex

As you can see below what i mean class Controller: def __init__(self): self.model = Model() self.view = View() def main(self): data = self.model.filename() self.view.tcpdump(data) class View: def tcpdump(self, command): subprocess.call(command.split(), shell=False) When i run my code i get this error: subprocess.call(command.split(), shell=False) AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'split' My guess means that its not picking up command (look at source for reference) or that its not getting command with variables. But i know the error when variables are not being picked up so i don't think it is that. My question is, from what i have thus far, how do i from "class view" grab "command" for my subprocesses to run. Thanks~ John Riselvato

    I try to refer to an array in the Game1 class by creating an object of the Game1 class with its definition Game1 gameObject; , its declaration gameObject = new Game1(); in the constructor, and its usage gameObject.tileArray[xInt, yInt].treed = true;. The game1 class itself remains unchanged in its class code other than some methods and variables. When I try to use this code in the TreeRegion class it gives me "Object reference not set to an instance of an object," leading me to believe that the game1 class is null somehow. How might one change the class or object in order to refer to game1's variables? Mind you I am self-taught and still rather new to C#.     I recently switched to Linux and wanted to compile my Visual Studio 2010 C++ source code, which uses only the STL, on G++. My Linux machine currently isn't available but I can try to tell you what is going on, first: As I try to compile my project, all global variables I use in main and which perfectly work on MSVC result in myGlobalVar is not defined in this scope errors. My project is built nearly the same as the example below: // myclass.h class myClass { // .... }; extern myClass globalInstance; // myclass.cpp #include "myclass.h" // myClass functions located here myClass globalInstance; // main.cpp #include "myclass.h" int main( ) { // Accessing globalInstance results in an error: Not defined in this scope } What am I doing wrong? Where are the differences between G++ and MSVC in terms of global variables?

This is what I get when I execute show variables like 'char%': character_set_client utf8 character_set_connection utf8 character_set_database utf8 character_set_results utf8 character_set_server utf8 character_set_system utf8 character_sets_dir /usr/share/mysql/charsets/ I wonder why this is happening. What does it mean? can I just add it to the my.cnf file? Thank you... Edit: Sorry, I recently noted that I didn't specify which variable we're talking about (though I said it in the title).   • What is a good way to simulate O_NOFOLLOW on systems without this flag?

    I would like to safely be able to simulate open with O_CREAT | O_WRONLY | O_TRUNC | O_NOFOLLOW and O_CREAT | O_WRONLY | O_APPEND | O_NOFOLLOW on systems that do not support O_NOFOLLOW. I can somewhat achieve what I am asking for with: struct stat lst; if (lstat(filename, &lst) != -1 && S_ISLNK(lst.st_mode)) { errno = ELOOP; return -1; } mode_t mode = S_IRUSR | S_IWUSR | S_IRGRP | S_IWGRP | S_IROTH | S_IWOTH; int fd = open(filename, O_CREAT | O_WRONLY | O_TRUNC | O_NOFOLLOW, mode); but then I introduce a race condition and possibly a security problem. I thought about maybe creating a dummy file with only the user being able to write, kind of like touching filename, doing the lstat check, and then using chmod after I finish writing (to correct the file mode bits), but I could be overlooking something major (e.g. if the file at filename exists, is not a regular file, or is already a symbolic link). What do you think?

    I have the following code if (msg.position == 0) //removed for brevity else if (msg.position == txtArea.value.length) //removed for brevity } else { //ERROR: should not reach here. errorDivTag.innerHTML += msg.position + " " + txtArea.value.length; } I'm having some really weird situations where I'm getting the error in the last code block, but the printed positions show that msg.position is in fact equal to the txtArea.value.length. This only happens 1% of the time, almost as if I have some kind of race-condition in my code where the two are NOT equal during the second if statement, but equal when I print in the error message. Any ideas?

    Hi all I wrote a control, and use a tool to do the code analysis. There is a test that I didn't pass. Avoid excessive locals, http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/ms182263(VS.90).aspx. In my CreateChildControls function, I built a big table with lots of field. I need to create a lot of TableRow and TableCell to construct the table. But these are not field or property of control. Thery are local variables in the function, which are created dynamically. Should I make these TableCells and TableRows as fields of the control? Or I just keep them as the local variables in the CreateChildControl function? Best Regards,

  • Is it bad style to redundantly check a condition?

    I often get to positions in my code where I find myself checking a specific condition over and over again. I want to give you a small example: suppose there is a text file which contains lines starting with "a", lines starting with "b" and other lines and I actually only want to work with the first two sort of lines. My code would look something like this (using python, but read it as pseudocode): # ... clear_lines() # removes every other line than those starting with "a" or "b" for line in lines: if (line.startsWith("a")): # do stuff if (line.startsWith("b")): # magic else: # this else is redundant, I already made sure there is no else-case # by using clear_lines() # ... You can imagine I won't only check this condition here, but maybe also in other functions and so on. Do you think of it as noise or does it add some value to my code?
