• Changing shared printer settings to default to greyscale

  My company has about 60 employees all running Windows Vista or 7 and a gigantic Minolta printer hooked up to an EFI Fiery Image Processor. We're burning about $300 a month in printer supplies alone. I'm trying to find a way to cause the printer to default to grayscale in order to save money. So far I've tried: Changing settings on the image processor Changing settings on the print server Looking through the Group Policy editor to see if I can find anything useful Creating a new printer on the print server and setting it to be grayscale only Adding the printer to my computer directly (through a TCP/IP port) and setting it to be greyscale only Has anybody successfully done this before? If so, how was it gone about? I don't expect anybody to know the specifics of my environment, I just not sure what the right direction is.

• OS X Terminal using default ANSI colours for every theme

  For some reason, every theme I palette I've had installed for the OS X Terminal.app has reverted to using the default ANSI colours. The themes have been working fine up until this point and I can't seem to determine what could have caused them to revert in this way. For reference, my standard Solarized Dark colour scheme should look like this … … but it currently looks like this: A quick look in the preferences panel shows that all the colours are correct save for the ANSI colours which have reverted to their defaults. I don't know what other information would be helpful but if you need any other info to help me troubleshoot just ask and I'll update as quickly as I can.

In Windows we just use the open with context menu the first time for any new types of files and check use this application for these type of files. After that the files always open up in checked application. I want to know if Ubuntu has a similar feature. Also, if I open 2 PHP files then two instance of Quanta Plus opens up. How can I get the secondary PHP files to open on another tab instead?

  I am new to handling issues on server. when my system tried to reboot I could see two installables to boot from. windows server 2012- current os windows server secondary plex. So when ever there is a system restart the system it stops at this screen. And since I am connecting to this server using RDP I have to wait for the hetzner console to click on of the os to boot. Even though the current os is set as default and time given is 30 sec, it still waits for a user input. So I want to know which of the two should I be using to boot and I just want one os.

• Is it possible to change the default scan folder on an Eye-Fi Wireless SD Card

  By default Eye-Fi cards scan the DCIM folder (and subfolders) used by most digital cameras for new images to upload. Is there a way of changing this to a different folder? In my particular case I'm using a Kodak photo scanner (P461) that uses a PHOTO(N) folder format to store the scanned images, as far as I know the device has no configuration interface to alter this setting so that doesn't seem to be an option. This topic on the Eye-Fi forums is the closest I've come to a solution, but a perfunctory investigation of Disk Probe doesn't make it obvious what needs to be modified on the card.

• IIS 5 default website (Stopped) after new install on new box

  We just got new boxes at work. Running Xp, IIs 5.1 (yeah I know corporate decision, not mine) when I go look at inetmgr (iis) the default website it stopped. if restarted, I get an error that it didn't respond in a timely manor I ran netstat -an, and -o and saw nothing had port 80 open. cleared my event viewer, restarted iis and restarted iisadmin service (and theirby smtp) no errors in the event log. I ran aspnet_regiis -i jsut in case. Still no joy. I'm stumped. Can any think of anything else to try? Thanks, E-

  I have been considering replacing Ubuntu with OpenBSD to improve the security on my local server. I need to have ssh access to it, and I also need it to serve static web content - so the only ports I need open are 22 and 80. However, when I scan my server for open ports after installing OpenBSD 4.8, and enabling ssh and http at /etc/rc.conf httpd_flags="" sshd_flags="" I discovered that it had several other open ports: Port Scan has started… Port Scanning host: 192.168.56.102 Open TCP Port: 13 daytime Open TCP Port: 22 ssh Open TCP Port: 37 time Open TCP Port: 80 http Open TCP Port: 113 ident ssh (22) and http (80) should be open as I enabled httpd and sshd, but why are the other ports open, and should I worry about them creating additional security vulnerabilities? Should they be open in a default installation?

• Change default text editor for crontab to vim

  I'm using ubuntu 9.10 and the default text editor is nano, which i hate. (doesn't everyone?) Normally it's not a problem as i just vi or gedit everything but crontab -e is opening with nano. I tried changing it to vim using sudo update-alternatives --config editor and selecting option 3 ("/usr/bin/vim.basic"). This has changed it for sudo and non-sudo alike. But crontab -e still opens nano. Any ideas? max

  On Windows there are system default printer forms which can't be deleted from the Print Server Properties dialog. Is there some other way they can be removed? We are never going to use page sizes like Envelope, B5(JIS), US Std Fanfold, etc. and I'd like to save users (and myself!) from having to scroll through a big long list of noise. Our print servers are Windows Server 2003 if that makes any difference. thanks.

  The default way to connect to a VPN (standard includedd MS client) seems to be to click on the network icon in the system tray to expand it, then pick the VPN connection, and click the connect button. This brings up a dialog where you can enter your username and password. I have told the VPN connection to remember my credentials. Is there some way I can skip that dialog and just have it connect? I have tried using rasdial.exe, and I can connect as long as I pass the username and password as arguments. It doesn't seem to want to use the stored credentials for some reason, maybe I need to store them with an elevated account.

  Is there any way to specify which monitor the console is displayed on in Linux? Details: I have a 3 monitor setup with 2 video cards. When I boot the computer, the BIOS displays on the PCI graphics card (which has a small monitor). When starting Linux, the console is displayed on the same monitor. Is there a way to have the console output on a different monitor? I'm using the vesafb framebuffer. I don't see a way in my BIOS to change the default video card.

So please explain this why this is happening. Secondly when i made the default port to 80 then localhost:80 or localhost then it was not accessible. So please explain this why this is happening.   I wanted to "reset" the collection on my iPod and ended up accidentally deleting, through Amarok, all the playlists, including the default ones like "Most Played" and "Highest Rated". Since these are dynamic playlists with a special meaning for iPod, I don't think creating new, normal playlists with the same name will bring their special behavior back. How do I restore them with the same dynamic functionality? Is there a way to do that on Amarok? Rhythmbox? GTKPod? Command line? P.S.: not entirely sure what the policy about iPod questions are, but this one in particular seems to me to be very computer-related because, although it's about interfacing with a device, everything has to be done on my computer, using standard PC libraries/programs, etc. If it's still off-topic, please point me to where I could post it.

Because of this mismatch my old Django cronjobs fail since the required libraries are not in path.   I'm having trouble with Java on a virtual server, it always gives me the following error: # java Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine. I first solved this by using the CACAO virtual machine (of OpenJDK, by putting it first in jvm.cfg), but then I run into problems with my web application (Play! framework based, gives me nasty LinkageErrors).   I have Solaris machine with IP 10.10.10.100 and default getway 10.10.10.1 and subnet 255.255.255.0 remark - solaris machine connected to cisco switch via cross cable and from switch to my laptop I configure my laptop to connect to my Solaris machine so my laptop IP is 10.10.10.1 and subnet 255.255.255.0 but something not clearly I have ssh connection from my laptop to my Solaris machine ( I mean I in my solaris machine ) but from Solaris machine I can do ping to 10.10.10.1 ? This can be solved by specifying a maximum heap size and running "java -Xmx256m" But is there anyway to permanently fix this error (i.e. set the default heap size to 256MB so that I do not need to specify the max heap size every time I run the command)

• Reinstall default apps on Galaxy S3 before updating to Jelly Bean [migrated]

  I want to update my Galaxy S3 to Jelly Bean but after downloading the firmware using Kies, it starts updating, but then it stops with a "dead" Android with a red triangle icon. I think it's because I have removed some default apps like ChatOn and Yahoo widgets. Is there any way to get them back or to install the official Jelly Bean update without a factory reset? I don't want to reinstall my apps again and lose my settings each time I need to update the OS (I also don't want bloatware apps that are pre-installed). Any ideas?

• Setting the server to look for index.php file by default

  I am a web developer and I've requested our Sys-Admin to setup a server for my team that will be used as a development environment. The PHP is running as a CGI. When i try to open http://myaddress/ I receive 403 Forbidden. When I try to open http://myaddress/index.php everything is fine. How do I set the server to look for index.php file by default? P.S The sysadmin is not currently here, so he cannot do it for me.

  Hi I wanted to know if there's some option for disabling Netbeans to upload all files of a recently imported remote (php) project. I always check "Upload files on run", in the project configuration. But when I click on run Netbeans selects all files by default (I modified only some). The file checkboxes cannot be disabled at once and you have to do this one by one (imagine you have 5000 files...). That's annoying. Do you know any solution? thank you
