  • Fastest distance lookup given latitude/longitude?

    I currently have just under a million locations in a mysql database all with longitude and latitude information. With this I use another lat/lng to find the distance of certain places in the database but it's not as fast as I want it to be especially with 100+ hits a second. Is there a faster formula or possibly a faster system other than mysql for this? The formula I'm using is this. select name, ( 3959 * acos( cos( radians(42.290763) ) * cos( radians( locations.lat ) ) * cos( radians( locations.lng ) - radians(-71.35368) ) + sin( radians(42.290763) ) * sin( radians( locations.lat ) ) ) ) AS distance from locations where active = 1 HAVING distance < 10 ORDER BY distance;

  • Why is the ASP Repeater.Items collection empty, when controls are on the screen?

    I have an ASP page with the following repeater: <asp:Repeater runat="server" ID="RegionRepeater" DataSourceID="SqlDataSourceRegions" EnableViewState="true"> <ItemTemplate> <tr> <td valign="top"> <b><%#Eval("description")%></b> <asp:HiddenField runat="server" ID="RegionID" Value='<%#Eval("region_id")%>'/> </td> <td> <asp:FileUpload ID="FileUpload" runat="server" Width="368px" /> </td> </tr> </ItemTemplate> </asp:Repeater> (The repeater is inside a Wizard, inside a content pane). The code behind is connected to the protected void Wizard1_NextButtonClick(object sender, WizardNavigationEventArgs e) event. There are two items on the screen (two rows inside the table). The problem is that we've got web apps and fat client apps using authentication and storing cookies. However, logging out of a web app does not log out of a fat client app, and we have now way of forcing a refreshed cookie, atm.

  • How to pass a reference to a JS function as an argument to an ExternalInterface call?

    Summary I want to be able to call a JavaScript function from a Flex app using ExternalInterface and pass a reference to a different JavaScript function as an argument. Base Example Given the following JavaScript: function foo(callback) { // ... do some stuff callback(); } function bar() { // do some stuff that should happen after a call to foo } I want to call foo from my flex app using ExternalInterface and pass a reference to bar as the callback. Why Really,foo is not my function (but, rather, FB.Connect.showBookmarkDialog), which due to restrictions on Facebook iframe apps can only be called on a button click. My button, for design reasons, is in the Flex app. Fortunately, it's possible to call ExternalInterface.call("FB.Connect.showBookmarkDialog", callback) to display the bookmark dialog. But, FB.Connect.showBookmarkDialog requires a JS callback so, should I want to receive a callback (which I do), I need to pass a reference to a JS function as the single argument.   • XCode Build and Run

    I recently reinstalled OSX, and am having a slight annoyance with XCode. Before I reinstalled, I could just hit CMD + Enter, and it would build, then flip the main editor screen to the debugger, where it would show NSLogs, crashes, etc. Now, when I hit CMD + Enter, it just runs the app and stays in the code editor screen. Is there an option I'm missing? I've scoured the preferences, and can't seem to find anything.

  • SIMPLE OpenSSL RSA Encryption in C/C++ is causing me headaches

    Hey guys, I'm having some trouble figuring out how to do this. Basically I just want a client and server to be able to send each other encrypted messages. This is going to be incredibly insecure because I'm trying to figure this all out so I might as well start at the ground floor. So far I've got all the keys working but encryption/decryption is giving me hell. I'll start by saying I am using C++ but most of these functions require C strings so whatever I'm doing may be causing problems. Note that on the client side I receive the following error in regards to decryption. error:04065072:rsa routines:RSA_EAY_PRIVATE_DECRYPT:padding check failed I don't really understand how padding works so I don't know how to fix it. Anywho here are the relevant variables on each side followed by the code.     We have several reports that do the same formatting operations (e.g. displaying "PASS" or "FAIL" if a value is within a particular range.) Without Crystal Reports Server, is there a way to share functions between reports so that they do not need to be duplicated? I understand I could do this with a user function library but I would prefer not to port all of the crystal functions to UFL. Using Crystal Reports 2008.

  • Visual Studio 2008 - The breakpoint cannot be hit

    I know that many people have had this problem... but I am now having it and cannot solve the issue. VS 2008 is randomly giving me an error after working on a project for weeks. When I set a debug point, I get a warning: The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document. I have re-built the solution with no debug points and re-tried. I have also tried to Load Symbols from path and that has not worked either... Can someone please help walk me through the necessary steps to getting my debug function working again. Thanks.

  • Papervision3D: mouseEnabled = false on DisplayObject3D

    How do I make a DisplayObject3D have mouseEnabled = false. I have a Sprite behind the Papervision3D scene listening for mouse events and so i need to let it pick up those mouse events through some of the DisplayObject3D objects. I've tried adding the DisplayObject3D to a separate ViewportLayer and setting thats mouseEnabled to false but that doesn't seem to work. Please help! Thanks.

    I have created a custom Treeview control and am trying to access the HierarchicalDataTemplate resource of this control from another window in the same project. I have placed <ResourceDictionary Source="/Controls/TreeView/Themes/Generic.xaml"/> into my App.xaml file. Everytime I run, I get an error saying that it can not find the resource key "scene" - the name of the HierarchicalDataTemplate from my custom control. How can I access this template? Thanks

I've had some success with using Yahoo Pipe's Fetch Feed Source, but was wondering if it's possible to do this entirely in YQL. Any ideas?

Here's my setup: OS: Ubuntu 9.10 PHP: 5.2.1 Netbeans: 6.8 The following is in my /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini zend_extension=/usr/lib/php5/20060613/xdebug.so xdebug.remote_enable=1 xdebug.remote_handler=dbgp xdebug.remote_host=localhost xdebug.remote_port=9000 xdebug.idekey="netbeans-xdebug" I've tried switching ports (I've tried 9001, 9002, and 9034 so far), using zend_extension_ts, adding additional xdebug parameters in the config file, but nothing seems to work: Netbeans still says it's waiting for connection (netbeans-xdebug) If I look at my phpinfo, I do see a whole section on xdebug, and the parameters are correct. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

After running for about 2 months I noticed that the mongrel process was using about 4GB of memory. I did some research on debugging ruby memory leaks and could not find much. So I have two questions. Are there any good tools that can be used to find memory leaks in Ruby/rails? What type of coding patterns cause memory leaks in ruby?

    Strangely enough I am more familiar with jQuery than I am with javascript. I need to be able to add a class to the body tag of a document depending on what specific forum page i'm on in a phpbb forum. Due to the nature of phpbb I can't actually do this flow control in php, so I am using jquery. Here's my code (the first part is an extend that gets the url parameters like so http://www.mysite.com/viewforum.php?f=3 var forum = $.getUrlVar('f'); will make forum == 3 because of the nature of phpbb i can't really do any flow control with php. So I am using jquery.   • Detecting ClearType-optimized fonts

    Question: Is there a way to check if a given font is one of Microsoft's ClearType-optimized fonts? I guess I could simply hard-code the list of font names, since it's a relatively short list, but that seems a bit ugly. Would the font names be the same regardless of Windows' locale and language settings? Background: PuTTY looks really ugly with bold, ClearType-enabled, Consolas text. I'm assuming that PuTTY's Consolas text looks ugly because, since Consolas is so heavily optimized to be layed out on specific pixel boundaries, trying to shoehorn it into arbitrary dimensions produces bad results. So it seems like an appropriate fix would be to detect ClearType-optimized fonts and try and create the bold versions of those fonts using the same width and height as the initial CreateFont call.
