• Ubuntu won't load properly all of a sudden

  This has been the second time this has happened, but when I booted this morning my hardware wasn't detected anymore. I see both screens pop up as normal, choose Ubuntu 14.04 in the grub list and from that point onwards none of the following hardware seems to be used: VGA, DVI-D, USB, Audio jacks. This has happened before, but at that time, I still had one screen left, so I could navigate through the (non-USB) keyboard and how weird this may sound, but from the moment I opened Windows in vmware, all of my hardware started working again. This was a few weeks ago, but the same seems to have happened again. This time I can't use that little hack though, since now Ubuntu stops using both screens. My hardware is all detected, Ubuntu just doesn't want to use it somehow. Did anybody else encounter this and how did they solve this?

• Grub Doesn't Load after Update

  Hi Everyone, After I updated ubuntu (I believe it was most likely a kernel update) and restarted I selected ubuntu from the windows boot loader (I am using wubi). At this point I would usually land on the grub loader; however, I see something about NTFS file not found and a couple other screens flash then the computer restarts. I have tried pressing ESC right after to try and get some options, but I think grub is just not found or something... Not sure what is going on.. Any help would be much appreciated :). Thanks!

  I will soon be receiving a new machine (yes, I need the improved performance!) how can I transfer over all of my current Ubuntu settings and files to the new machine. This is very important because I have many packages installed from apt-get, python packages, emacs packages and so forth. I really want to avoid installing all of the same packages over again. I am currently running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. What is the best solution in transferring my current ubuntu settings and files to a new machine? Let me know if you need more information.   I want to load a word document using UIWebView. I used the code provided in http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/qa/qa2008/qa1630.html to load the document. But not all the documents load successfully. Sometimes I get an error Error Domain=WebKitErrorDomain Code=102 UserInfo=0x145bc10 "Frame load interrupted" The error seems to be very sporadic and I get this error only for some documents. However the same document loads correctly in mail.app. What am I missing?

I can't find any documentation on this (connecting to a common EhCache server or using Distributed EhCache, and sharing sessions (using EhCache too ?))... • Why is my CPU being used while doing nothing?

  I have installed Ubuntu GNOME in BIOS mode on my MacBook (BIOS mode so that the proprietary NVIDIA drivers work. I need them for gaming.). For some reason, a lot of CPU is being used while not really doing anything. It swings between 20-30% on both cores, usually. But when I look at the list of processes and sort by CPU usage, I do not see anything special. No processes intensively doing anything. How can I fix this?   Hi, I have found a way to load exchange 2010 powershell into powershell running on a windows xp workstation, however there are a few commands that need to run. I was wondering how I could load them into a profile somehow. These are the commands that I need to run before I can do any of the exchange things such as Get-Mailbox. COMMAND 1 $session = New-PSSession -Configurationname Microsoft.Exchange –ConnectionUri http://servername/powershell -Credential $user (it prompts you for a username and p/word then the next command) COMMAND 2 Import-PSSession $session Then I am able to run exchange 2010 commands such as Get-Mailbox. Anyway I can load these so that when I click on the powershell shortcut they preload the importing of exchange commands. Thanks

  Is there any way to chase down lockups and runaway load averages? Every so often (pretty randomly) I'll get my load average spike up over 5 usually to around 10-15 and sometimes as high as 75 (dual core machine), and cause my system to lock for an indeterminate amount of time. The only thing I can possibly chase it to is using nVidia fakeraid (RAID-1) with JFS on top of that for my /home partition. Also I noticed that when my load averages spike, the power management system doesn't step up my processor speed from 1.6 to its maximum 2.13Ghz clock speed (not sure if this makes a huge difference with this problem). Any ideas?

• Determine nginx reverse-proxy load limits

  Hi all: I have an nginx server (CentOS 5.3, linux) that I'm using as a reverse-proxy load-balancer in front of 8 ruby on rails application servers. As our load on these servers increases, I'm beginning to wonder at what point will the nginx server become a bottleneck? The CPUs are hardly used, but that's to be expected. The memory seems to be fine. No IO to speak of. So is my only limitation bandwidth on the NICs? Currently, according to some cacti graphs, the server is hitting around 700Kbps ( 5 min average ) on each NIC during high load. I would think this is still pretty low. Or, will the limit be in sockets or some other resource in the operating system? Thanks for any thoughts and insights. Aaron

  I have a production web server that makes sites to be very slow when load for first time. After the first time all connections are normal and fast. In the following screen you can see the first test I have run for a random site in my server: and here you can see the result of the second time request: As you can see there is a big change in the second load of the same page. Here is the page load time graph: My problem is that I don't really know anything about Red Had Linux server, and also I don't know where can I start. Can somebody to help me ? • linux ssh -X graphical applications will not start when system load is high

  So I am using ssh -X to access a server. I am at a Xubuntu desktop accessing a Ubuntu server that is in the next room. Usually everything works fine, but when the system load gets high, any graphical applications I have freeze and fail to be restarted. This happens even if the process that is causing the high load has been niced to a low priority with "nice -n 19". And even though the system load is high, the command line works fine with no delay, and other applications I have running on the server (e.g. virtual machines) run fine. But any graphical application running through X dies. When the graphical applications fail they usually give out an error message that suggests a time-out. It seems that something connected to X has a low priority and times out. But what is it, and how does one fix it?

• Reset Network Load Balancer Connection Pool

  I am currently working on load testing a web application on a virtual machine cluster. I am looking for a way to flush the connection pool / NLB cache so that it is like each machine connecting to the NLB is connecting for the first time and doesn't get directed back to the node that it was on last time. This a Windows 2003 Server cluster, behind a Microsoft software based Network Load Balancer. Additional Information: To do the load testing I'm using virtual machines, one for each node on the cluster. Somehow I got two virtual machines connecting to the same node and I'm looking for an easier way to reset those connections without going in to the NLB Manager and stopping and starting each node on the NLB. Update: We went ahead and changed the affinity on all of the nodes of the cluster to none. Now it's a non-issue.

• Load balance between two virtual directories on a single machine running IIS6

  I'm trying to simulate a production environment using a single VM. The production environment will have 3 servers behind a load balancer with sticky sessions. Production will be using IIS6. For development, I have no need to distribute load, but I want to make sure the team does not write code that relies on a single-server module. I have been hoping to set up two virtual directories and find some isapi filter to perform some rudimentary software load balancing, but I've been unable to locate anything suitable. isapi_rewrite comes close but there's no ability for a random rewrite. I don't even need sticky sessions since the application does not (in theory) rely on them. Is there something easy/free to do this, or am I stuck with multiple VMs and a NLB setup (which seems like total overkill)?

• Page won't load on IE9 unless developer tools are started first

  One of my pages (with very extensive javascript) won't load on IE9. It loads ok in Mozilla, Chrome, Safari and Opera. If IE9 Developer tools are running it loads fine. If I load IE9, load the developer tools (F12) then kill the developer tools it still loads fine. If developer tools are running then sometimes (but not always) the first message in the console is: HTML1113: Document mode restart from Quirks to IE9 Standards Doctype is: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> If I change doctype to and remove the xmlns nothing changes. I'm stumped. Any suggestions appreciated.

• Amazon EC2 as load balanced/failover solution

  Hi All, I'm thinking of an idea but not sure the pros/cons of it. At the moment, we are hosting our website on a dedicated server. As a failover/load balanced solution, I'm thinking to use Amazon EC2+EBS. The files can be rsync and mysql can be setup as master-master replication When the load is high, I can up the machine, given sometime to "sync" and load balanced the traffic there. is it do-able? any link I can read more on this?

  I'm relatively new to solr. I have a production site running on a VPS, but now I'm having serious load issues. I don't know where to start in order to get the load down... VPS specs (linode.com 512) 512 MB RAM 4 CPU (1x priority) Looks like my solr server (tomcat) is using a lot of CPU power You can find my solrconfig.xml on http://pastebin.com/qdfi8Med and my schema.xml on http://pastebin.com/rRusDP8b I've tried to increaese the cache size, but this didn't do anything on the load.
