  Hi Everyone, I have an online service with around 5000 MySQL databases. Now, I am interested in building a development area of the exactly same environment in my office, therefore, I am about to setup MySQL replication between my live MySQL server and development MySQL server. But my concern is the load which will occur on my live MySQL server once replication is started. Do you have any experience? Will this process cause extra load on my production server?   All, I'm not even sure where to begin looking for resources to answer my question, and I realize that speculation about this kind of thing is highly subjective. I need help determining what class of server I should purchase to host a MS Silverlight application with a MSSQL server back-end on a Windows Server 2008 platform. It's an interactive program, so I can't simply generate a list of URLs to test against, and run it with 1000 simultaneous users. What tools are out there to help me determine what kind of load the application will put on a server at varying levels of concurrent users? Would you all suggest separating the SQL server form the web server, to better differentiate the generated load on the different parts of the stack?

• Internet Explorer 9 takes a long time to load websites

  IE9 on Windows 7 would load Google okay, and we could search on Google okay, but almost any other website would take an inordinate amount of time to load. The loading sprite would sit there indefinitely. I uninstalled IE9 to roll back to IE8, and the same issue occurs. We've reset IE settings back to defaults, and there are no add-ons causing this. Firefox loads websites fine on this computer. Could it be an IE-specific virus/trojan? IE was displaying an incorrect/hijacked home page.

  Google Chrome keeps loading the second page of certain websites which is helpful on sites like Netflix so that instead of clicking on a link for page 2, I can just continue scrolling down and it'll automatically have the next page ready for me. But on online clothing sites, it just gets backed up loading all the next pages, misplacing links and loading the next page so that it actually replaces the page I'm trying to view literally every millisecond. Considering clothing sites generally have upwards of 20 to 200 pages of clothing, this is really annoying since Chrome tries to load all of them. How do I turn off the automatic page load???

  Using the regular Remote Desktop Client (in the desktop environment) I can connect just fine to remote servers when connected through Cisco VPN or when accessing a server behind a load balancer. When using the Remote Desktop app in the Modern UI, I can't do either of these things. Trying to connect to a remote server that's on a private network fails with: Can't find server, make sure the name and domain are correct and try again And connecting to a server that's behind an RDP load balancer fails with the following error, after accepting credentials: Because of a protocol error, this session will be disconnected. Please try connecting to the remote PC again Is there some way to use the Remote Desktop app in these situations, or am I just out of luck?

  A couple of months ago, I configured Firefox to load a local html file containing my commonly-used links whenever I open a new tab This week I've been trying to find where I set this up. I cannot find this setting anywhere in the Firefox options. Somewhere there is (or was) a dialog box with an item that said something like 'Page to load in new tab'. Where was it? Could Mozilla have removed it in the latest upgrade? I'm not using any extensions but LastPass, so it's not controlled by an extension.

• Windows 8 will not load color profiles - why?

  I have a Spyder3Express color calibration device. Under Windows 7 the utility that came with it would happily load the custom profile I created with it without any hassles. Under Windows 8 (have just upgraded) there is no visible color shift when it says it has loaded the profile. I have gone into the Windows color management settings and when I select any profile and hit 'Set as Default' nothing happens. They all look the same. So Windows doesn't throw an error, but none of the profiles cause any color shifts at all. I have tried a large number of things, such as changing the global color settings for all user accounts and installing other color management software to see if it will load the profiles. The only way I can get a color shift is if I create a profile using Windows built in utility. Profiles created this way change the appearance of the screen, but any downloaded or created profiles make no difference. I am out of ideas. Please help :)

  I have a large table that I am updating. Is it possible to disable index updates on the destination table until the load is complete? It seems like a waste for it to be constantly updating the index with each commit. I can just drop and recreate the index before and after the load, I just want to know if there is a quick way to configure that in the OLEDB or SQL Server destination. Server is Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition, running SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition with SSIS.

  Every time I try to load viper-mode in Emacs24 using M-x viper-mode, I get error Wrong type argument: symbolp, (quote 3) I have observed it happens when I try to load viper-mode for the after opening Emacs or after I have issued M-x viper-go-away So once I get this error and run the same command again, viper-mode loads successfully. When I use toggle-viper-mode to turn it off, viper-mode goes away successfully. But when I try to turn it back on using toggle-viper-mode again, I get the above stated error. I have to use viper-go-away and then M-x viper-mode twice to get it back working. How can I get rid of this error?

• VMware Server guest systems are extremely slow with IO load on host (Ubuntu 8.04)

  We are experiencing performance issues with a VMware Server 2.x installation on an Ubuntu 8.04 host. When the host system is generating IO load (for example, copying large files as part of a backup operation), the guests (also Ubuntu 8.04) become extremely unresponsive and slow (simple Apache HTTP requests taking 5 seconds instead of the usual 200ms). We tried optimizing various aspects of the VMs, but the issue remains. Is there a known bug with VMware performance under linux if host IO load is high? Is there a way to fix this? Is this only an issue with Ubuntu systems, or have you seen it on other systems before? Thanks!

• Google Chrome can't load too many tabs together!

  This is an annoying problem that I face and friends of mine agree to this too. When using a site like Digg I tend to browse the page and open a lot of tabs simultaneously before reading each tab individually. Now what happens is, when there are 4-5 or more tabs loading up, all of them just stop loading.I can still see that annoying circle rotating (which means it is trying to load) but nothing happens. I have to stop the load and then refresh one tab at a time to see these pages. I never faced these problems on firefox or opera. What can the possible reasons for this be and how do I overcome this issue ? I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and my Chrome Version is 5.0.375.55. PS: I use the internet from behind a proxy server at my college. I wonder if that could cause these problems. My friends in college also face the same problem.

We aren't measuring disk IO as we are not a very disk intensive application. When running on our own hardware in a datacenter I also usually monitor "load" from the top command. My question is: Does it make sense to monitor "load" on a shared env such as EC2? If so, how do you interpret the results?

  I'm getting ready to soft launch my website and I've run into some problems with what I think is being caused by my MySQL database running on Fedora. All websites run fine, just as I'd expect, but any pages that establish a database connection hang until the connection is established, and then bang, the site loads as it should. Ex. My landing page (http://www.thrusong.com) doesn't make a database connection and loads quickly. User profile pages (http://www.thrusong.com/john) make a database connection and load slowly, even though most of the data comes from memcached and the database currently has no load on it. This problem just came up yesterday when my router died and I began using my Pace 2Wire modem with built-in router. Before, my old router was set to handle everything. My ISP says the settings in the modem are correct. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  Hello brainy people. On my WinXP SP3 laptop (1.4Ghz 1.2GB ram), after I first log in, when I right-click in Windows Explorer and choose New, the submenu can take up to 15 seconds to load, which is a pain in the ass when you want to do a quick easy operation. After the submenu has loaded the first time, subsequent loads perform instantly, obviously as the menu has been cached. My question is: can these right-click menus (and the Start menu, which also takes some time to load the first time) be pre-loaded at Windows startup? Thanks.

  I have a wireless internet connection through BSNL. I have a windows 7 ultimate, and using latest Google chrome. During night time ie from 12:30 am onwards till around 5:30 am, I have the following problem: Only the following webpages load: Google Search Google images and all related to google product pages like you see them on the google home page. Blogspot webpages as supported through Google. Any other site loading gets stuck with the status message:- Waiting for www.thaturl.com .... And it goes on and on. Why does this happen? I checked around googling for this but no solution at all. By the way I tried changing my dns addresses too sometimes from automatically to opendns and then Google public dns. I need some solution which might help me to load other websites also. Thanks in advance.

I click on some link, browser starts loading page but nothing loads and does not not appear any error message (like "connection reset by peer etc). Nothing.   I have a website hosted in China, which must be hosted there for various reasons. I also cannot change hosting companies for various reasons. It is a website that is accessed worldwide, however it has atrocious ping rates from everywhere but China. This is just an idea, so this may be impossible and/or not make any sense, but here it goes. A friend of mine has used proxies which helped his ping and load times from servers in Korea. Is there any way I can do this with my server? Perhaps a service which forwards my name servers to somewhere with much better global ping rates? Any other ideas which will make pings/load times fester other than this are greatly appreciated as well. Please keep in mind when answering: I cannot change servers I do not have access to configure the server itself.

  Late last week I upgraded CC.NET locally and on the build server.
