• Notifying JMS Message sender (Web App) after message processed by Listener

  I have a Web application (Flex 4 - Spring Blaze DS - Spring 3.0) which sends out an JMS event to a batch application (Standalone java) I am using JMS infrastrucure provided by Spring (spring JmsTemplate,SimpleMessageListenerContainer,MessageListenerAdapter) with TIBCO EMS. Is there any way by which we can notify a web user once message processing is completed by listener. One of the way to send a response event which will be listened by web application; but how to address following scenario: User1 click on submit - which in turn sends a JMS message Listener on receiving message processes the message (message processing may take 20-30 mins to complete). Listener application sends out another JMS event "Process_complete" As this is a web application; there are n users currently logged into the application. so how to identify a correct user / what if user is already logged off? Is there any way to handle this? Please post your views.

• Clean way to display/hide a bunch of buttons based on a ComboBox selection

  I'm writing a standalone application in VB.NET using Visual Studio 2005. I want to display/hide a bunch of Buttons based on the selected value of a ComboBox. Each selection would have a different set of Buttons to display, and I'd like to have them arranged in a nice grid. Driving a TabControl with the ComboBox value would be the kind of behavior I want, but I don't want it to look like a TabControl to the user because it might be confusing. Is there a way to do this? Basically, I'd like Selection1 of the ComboBox to show Buttons 1-4, Selection2 to show Buttons 5-11, Selection3 to show (maybe) Buttons 1, 3, 5, 6, and 8, etc., have them arranged nicely, and have the GUI show only the ComboBox and the buttons. • Reading files from an embedded ZIP archive

  I have a ZIP archive that's embedded inside a larger file. I know the archive's starting offset within the larger file and its length. Are there any Java libraries that would enable me to directly read the files contained within the archive? I am thinking along the lines of ZipFile.getInputStream(). Unfortunately, ZipFile doesn't work for this use case since its constructors require a standalone ZIP file. For performance reasons, I cannot copy the ZIP achive into a separate file before opening it. edit: Just to be clear, I do have random access to the file.

• GMap in iframe gets off-center

  I have a Google Map (API 2) that used to work fine as a standalone page. However, when I load the map page within an iframe (with Thickbox), the map gets off-center: normally it's centered over Germany and in the iframe it centers on Iran, instead. How to make the map center correctly? My guesses: The problem can result from the iframe loading time. I guess, that the script calculates window size basing on the iframe size when it's still loading. It's strange since I load the map when the document is ready. $(document).ready(function() { setupSearchForm(); setupMap(); setupResults(); }); For instance, when I refresh the already loaded iframe the center comes back to Germany.   I am trying to get list of reviews for specific changeset using FishEye REST API. Here is my URL: http://fisheye.company.com/rest-service-fe/search-v1/reviewsForChangesets/NameOfRepository/ I am posting it using fiddler composer with following request body: cs=16964 Here is my response: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="true"?> <reviewsForChangesets> <changesets> <changeset> <reviews/> <changesetId>16964</changesetId> </changeset> </changesets> </reviewsForChangesets> As you can see it has no reviews information. However if I go to following url I can see that 16964 changeset has reviews assigned to it: http://fisheye.company.com/changelog/NameOfRepository?cs=16964 I also tried to use: http://fisheye.company.com/rest-service-fe/search-v1/reviewsForChangeset/NameOfRepository/ I got the same response. Am I missing something?

• What is the best way to manage application screens in SWT?

  I'm creating a standalone SWT desktop application that has around 10 different screens (few wizards, help, forms, etc). Some elements on screen don't change at all (like header, background, etc) and there is a working area that changes depending on what is clicked, etc. What is the best way to manage application screens? Do I need to create all screen at startup and then show/hide them depending on what is clicked? Or do I need to create those screens dynamically? Also, I couldn't find any way to show/hide a Composite, do I need to dispose it and then create again? What is the best practice? I'm new to SWT developing outside of Eclipse so any help would be beneficial.

• FCKEditor breaking HTML forms

  I'm in the process of reproducing some standalone HTML forms as pages in a CMS that uses FCKEditor by simply copying and pasting the relevant code into the editor. But when I save and view the page, the HTML has been changed and the tag has been moved up to just below the open tag -- and not at the bottom of the form. This obviously renders all of the fields in the form, including the submit button, useless. Is there a way to tell FCKEditor that I know what I'm doing and I don't need it to validate the HTML output? Unfortunately this is a hosted CMS service (actually part of an email blast tool) so making changes to the configuration will mean I need to go through the company's support system, which is fine -- but they haven't been able to solve it for me yet, so I'm hoping to get the answers for them.   I have a standalone gwt project with RPC built with Maven. I also have java servlet 3.0 project. Both the servlet and gwt projects have war packaging but I want to have only one war file so I changed the packaging of the gwt project to jar and included it in my servlet project. Now I have a problem understanding how to wire everything together. Do I need to migrate gwt project's web.xml into the main project web.xml file ? How do I redirect to my gwt project entry index.html ? Thanks.

• How do you unpack gems using jruby on rails 2.3?

  I'm trying to unpack all the system gems to end up with a standalone Rails directory including all the rails gems and all the system gems. I'm starting with a bare rails setup; just did a jruby -S rails and a 'generate jdbc'. I then add a config.gem 'jdbc-mysql' to environment.rb and do the jruby -S rake gems:unpack:dependencies. After unpacking, if I do a rake I get: no such file to load -- jdbc-mysql Is there something else you need to do to get the jdbc gem unpacked? I'm using jruby 1.4.0 (and moving to 1.5 is on my todo list) and rails 2.3.8.

• correct way to turn EAR module into OSGI bundle

  Greetings to all! There is a necessity to turn part of EAR (namely - war) into OSGI bundle and retain it's interoperability. Glassfish 3.0.1 already has osgi-web-container module and I succeeded to deploy standalone OSGI war. But in case of of ex-enterprise war it looks a bit difficult to me. What do I do with EJB calls from inside future OSGI war? Is it enough to replace @EJB injections with true JNDI lookups? What about APIs and libraries shared across EAR? I could split and rearrange them, but still I will have at least one jar needed by both EAR and OSGI war. Duplicate, make it as OSGI-bundle itself and make it available to ear somehow, place it GF domain's library path? Any other ideas, advices which could make that hybrid working? • How to detect VC++ 2008 redistributable?

  Is there a Registry setting that I can look for to determine whether or not the Visual C++ redistributable is installed, whether standalone or as part of Visual Studio 2008? I know that I could launch the VC++ 2008 redistributable installer and let it handle the detection, but it would look cleaner if I can check for it and not bother launching the installer if the redistributable is already on the system. It's no biggie if there is no setting to search for, as this is just for the preliminary installers that we have for the new version of our software. We won't need it for the new Windows Installer-based installers that we are working on that will replace the old tech ones and will use the merge modules.

• Grouping DLL's for use in Executable

  Is there a way to group a bunch of DLL's and still use them at run time (not zipped up). Sorry this question sounds terse and stupid, but I'm not sure what more to ask. I'll explain the situation though: We've had two standalone Windows Applications and now one of our Applications has swelled to such ungainly proportions that the other application cannot run outside of the scope of the first app. We want to maintain some of the encapsulation we had while letting the smaller program in on some of the bigger program's features. There is no problem in running the application, other than we don't want to send out all the 20-30 DLL's that the smaller project has.

  I have a python script which makes a GUI. When a button 'Run' is pressed in this GUI it runs a function from an imported package (which I made) like this from predictmiP import predictor class MiPFrame(wx.Frame): [...] def runmiP(self, event): predictor.runPrediction(self.uploadProtInterestField.GetValue(), self.uploadAllProteinsField.GetValue(), self.uploadPfamTextField.GetValue(), \ self.edit_eval_all.Value, self.edit_eval_small.Value, self.saveOutputField) When I run the GUI directly from python it all works well and the program writes an output file. However, when I make it into an app, the GUI starts but when I press the button nothing happens. predictmiP does get included in build/bdist.macosx-10.3-fat/python2.7-standalone/app/collect/, like all the other imports I'm using (although it is empty, but that's the same as all the other imports I have). How can I get multiple python files, or an imported package to work with py2app?

• What could cause ASP.NET's executionTimeout to not be enforced running under IIS?

  I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem, but I'm unable to reproduce it locally under IIS because no matter how low I set executionTimeout, the requests never time out. I've tried setting this via the web.config (, via code (Page.Server.ScriptTimeout = 5;). I'm running with binaries that were compiled in release mode, and debug=false is set in the compilation element. FWIW, under Cassini (the standalone development webserver), everything works as expected, running out of the same directory off of the exact same assemblies/config files. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

• SharePoint WSS 3.0 - Fastest approach to build data-bound forms?

  Pardon the vague question, but I've just inherited a project to build a couple dozen forms pulling data from a SQL 2005 database. The forms are mostly standard database lookups with just a couple updates so the data layer is very simple -- I'm the DBA -- but we just recently started using SharePoint WSS 3.0 for a departmental web site and I would prefer to integrate these forms into WSS rather than build a separate standalone ASP.NET app. I'm hoping there is some RAD framework out there that integrates with WSS for data bound forms. I've been searching online, but haven't found anything very promising and the data viewer web part in SharePoint Designer looks complicated to integrate with an external SQL database. TIA, Rusty

This Works fine in a standalone system. However when I use the same in a multitier (Web server, Application Server and DB Server) architecture it is throwing 4861 error. Could you please help? The Files are stored in the Web Server. The Translated error message below: " Error – 2147217900:4861: Since it can not be opened for the file \Servername\c$\Folder1\Folder2\Folder3\file.csv, It can not be loaded with large capacity. • .NET Framework 3.5 wont install on VISTA 32bit

  Running VISTA 32bit. I am trying to install c# Visual Express 2008 - but it requires .NET 3.5. One of the prerequisites during the install is .NET 3.5 ... it attempts to install it but fails, with no real error message. So I downloaded .NET 3.5 standalone from MS website and tried that.Again it fails with the error [10/17/08,23:17:07] WapUI: [2] DepCheck indicates Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0SP1 (CBS) is not installed. [10/17/08,23:50:55] Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0SP1 (CBS): [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0SP1 (CBS). MSI returned error code 34 I currently have c# Express edition 2005 installed. But everything I read says that I can have these two applications installed together. I believe that 2005 runs Framework 2.0. 2005 express edition works fine. - its just the 2008 edition im having problems installed the .NET 3.5 with .... any ideas ? thanks

  I have a project that needs to implement WCF data services (OData) to retrieve data from a control system (.NET Framework Application). The WCF data service needs to be hosted by the .NET application (No ASP.NET and NO IIS). I have seen many WCF Data Service examples recently; they are all hosted by ASP.NET application. I also see the self-host (console application) examples, but it is for WCF Service (not WCF Data Service). Here is my question: It is possible to have a standalone .NET Applications to host WCF Data Services ((http://localhost:1234/mydataservice.svc/...). If yes, can someone provide an example? Thanks.

• For what programs are Objective C and Ruby ideal on the Mac?

  Hi, as a Mac outsider it seems that two popular programming languages on the Mac appear to be Objective C and Ruby. From what I understand the main API Cocoa seems to be written in and optimized for Objective C, but it is also possible to use Ruby for that. Are there different areas where each language is ideal, for example, I could imagine Objective C could be ideal for a GUI layer, or standalone desktop app, and Ruby could be good for web services etc. What about classic business logic, or data access layers? What language would be a good choice for a library of services for example? Can we write a library in one language and link to it from a main program written in the other language? If I wanted to write a layered enterprise application using domain driven design and dependency injection which languages could support each concerns? Are things like DDD and DI common amongst Mac devs? Just a curious outsider.

  I have a set of Java 5 source files with old-style Doclet tags, comments and annotations. And based on that I would like to write a generator for another set of Java classes. What is the best way to do that? And are there any good standalone libraries for code analysis/generation in Java? Any shared exprience in this field is appreciated. So, far I have found these: JaxME's Java Source Reflection - seems good, but it does not seem to support annotations. Also it had no release since 2006. Annogen - uses JDK's Doclet generator, which has some bugs under 1.5 JDK. Also it had no releases for a long time. Javaparser - seems good as well and pretty recent, but only supports Visitor pattern for a single class i.e. no query mechanism like in the 2 above packages.

• Extract anything that looks like links from large amount of data in python

  Hi, I have around 5 GB of html data which I want to process to find links to a set of websites and perform some additional filtering. Right now I use simple regexp for each site and iterate over them, searching for matches. In my case links can be outside of "a" tags and be not well formed in many ways(like "\n" in the middle of link) so I try to grab as much "links" as I can and check them later in other scripts(so no BeatifulSoup\lxml\etc). The problem is that my script is pretty slow, so I am thinking about any ways to speed it up. I am writing a set of test to check different approaches, but hope to get some advices :) Right now I am thinking about getting all links without filtering first(maybe using C module or standalone app, which doesn't use regexp but simple search to get start and end of every link) and then using regexp to match ones I need.

• User controls in masterpage and anonymous user

  I am developing a master page which includes the user control that generates a menu from the list with a specific logic. Before including the control into master page I successfully configured anonymous access to the site. After including the control and deploying - site prompts for user name and password. I allowed the anonymous access to the list. Oh yes ... It worked on SHarepoint 2010 beta, but the problem happens when deploying to the Sharepoint 2010 final release. Additional data: I am using Sharepoint Server 2010 with Standard features, standalone instalation on Windows Server 2008 R2 for deployment, and Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate for development of masterpage and user control.
