  I'm working on a tutorial to build a media player in Silverlight and am trying to wire up an EventHandler to the timer.Tick event of a DispatchTimer object so that the time of the video is synced with a Slider object. The sample code is in C# and I can't for the life of me figure out the proper syntax in VB.NET with RaiseEvent and/or Handles to wire up the event. Below is the relevant C# code.   I have a JSON array that look like this: (array here) I'm trying to use Flex to display each Project and its Milestone elements similar to a nested for-loop for 15 seconds per Milestone element before advancing to the next Project.   I made an IRC bot which uses a while true loop to receive whatever is said. To receive I use recv(500), but that stops the loop if there isn't anything to receive, but i need the loop to continue even if there isn't anything to receive. I need a makeshift timer to continue running. Example code: /A lot of stuff/ timer=0 while 1: timer=timer+1 line=s.recv(500) #If there is nothing to receive, the loop and thus the timer stop. /A lot of stuff/ So either I need a way to stop it stopping the loop, or I need a better timer.

  I have several System.Threading.Timers on my form application with callbacks that update the UI...successfully - i.e. without throwing errors. I had built these earlier, before I knew that UI should not be updated on any thread other than the UI thread. Now I am confused as to why it does not throw cross-thread exceptions when I am updating UI on these separate threading.timer threads? I will be changing these callbacks so that the UI updates are invoked on UI thread, but I am curious as to why this works. Edit: My application is a WinForms Application.

When a user clicks on a button, the cronometer needs to be restarted and all users will need to see that!" All right, now I'd like to know what's the best choose to improve more performace an make sure that all users will see the same value in cronometer ? Need I use JSon (with jquery in client side), Timer with UpdatePanel of Ajax Extensions, pure Ajax (with JQuery) or any idea to suggested ? • Windows can see Ubuntu Server printer, but can't print to it

  I have an old desktop that I'm trying to set up as a home backup/print server. Backup was trivial, but am having issues getting the printing to work. The printer is connected to the server running Ubuntu Server 9.10 (no gui). If I access the printer via http://hostname:631/printers/, I am able to print a test page, so I know the printer is working; however, I am having no luck from Windows. Windows can see the printer when browsed via \hostname\, but I am unable to connect. Windows says "Windows cannot connect to the printer" without indicating why. Any suggestions? • How do I list all cron jobs for all users?

  Is there a command or an existing script that will let me view all of a *NIX system's scheduled cron jobs at once? I'd like it to include all of the user crontabs, as well as /etc/crontab, and whatever's in /etc/cron.d. It would also be nice to see the specific commands run by run-parts in /etc/crontab. Ideally, I'd like the output in a nice column form and ordered in some meaningful way. I could then merge these listings from multiple servers to view the overall "schedule of events." I was about to write such a script myself, but if someone's already gone to the trouble...

• Why does my laptop resume immediately after suspend?

  I seem to be having some problem with suspend mode. Every time I try to suspend my laptop, it just locks the screen. Or maybe it successfully suspends just to resume only an instant after.   My problem is pretty much a duplicate of the one described in USB mouse late to load , but the solution there has not worked for me. I'm running the same OS and experiencing the exact same issue. It disappears after 10 seconds or so. Okay now let me give the scenario I'm creating a 2 player fighting game, An average battle will include a Map (moving/still) and 2 characters (which are rendered by redrawing a varying amount of sprites one after the other). But as you can imagine if a sprite is only 3 images in length than calling gameLoop() 40 times will cause the characters movement to be drawn 40/3=13 times. This causes a few minor anomilies in the sprited for some charcters So my question is how would I go about delivering a set amount of frames per second in when I have 2 characters on screen with varying amount of sprites?

When you go to your site > site settings > Site Web Analytics reports or Site Collection Analytics reports  You get old data as in the ribbon displayed "Data Last Updated: 12/13/2010 2:00:20 AM" Please insure that the following things are covered: Insure that Usage and Data Health Data Collection service is configured correctly. Log Collection Schedule is configured correctly Microsoft Sharepoint Foundation Usage Data Import and Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Usage Data Processing Timer jobs are configured to run at regular intervals One last important Timer job is the Web Analytics Trigger Workflows Timer Job insure that this timer job is enabled and scheduled to run at regular intervals (for each site that you need analytics for). After you have insured that the web analytics service configuration is working fine and the Usage Data Import job is importing the *.usage files from the ULS LOGS folder into the WSS_Logging database, and that all the required timer jobs are running as expected… wait for a day for the report to get updated… the report gets updated automatically at 2:00 am in the morning… and i could not find a way to control the schedule for this report update job. So be sure to wait for a day before giving up :)

• System in low graphics, deleted linux, grub rescue, can't access windows

  So I'm pretty new to Ubuntu but I managed to install it with no big problems on both my desktop and netbook. When I installed it on my brother's netbook everything went horribly wrong and now I fear the system is close to beyond repair. The problem was first that it said it did not have any space left (seemed ridiculous since it had a lot). Then Ubuntu began booting into a "System is running in low graphics mode error" which I then tried to fix, using all the tips I could find in here but nothing helped. I think the graphics error and lack of space might have been related but I can't be sure. Finally I gave up repairing Ubuntu and went for a reinstall. Shouldn't have done that! I read that I should simply open Ubuntu through a live usb and choose GParted to delete the Linux partitions so I did and rebooted accordingly. Next, I was to install Ubuntu but now I am only given the option to wipe the whole disk for Ubuntu, not install along with windows 7. If I access GParted I can still see the ntfs partitions that hold windows 7 (there are 2: one labeled RECOVERY and another labeled OS and boot) so why can't I access them? Btw. the OS and boot has a little red mark with a warning that 1 cluster is referenced to multiple times, don't know what that means. If I boot without the live usb I am sent directly into a grub rescue "black screen of the computer will follow no orders". Please, I know that the easiest might be to simply wipe the whole thing clean but there are important files and programs on windows 7. Is there a way to just access windows? It is a dell inspiron 1018 mini netbook, so I have no cd input and no windows 7 installation cd.

• Ubuntu won't boot on windows starter

  I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS yesterday from a usb, but it only boots into Windows unless the usb is in, then it boots into the Ubuntu loader where I can choose Ubuntu vs. Windows. What's the problem? I run windows starter on a netbook with 1 gb ram and intel atom processor. I tried to install boot-repair but it won't work either. I follow the instructions for the Terminal and it seems to go right until I try launching it - then it says that it does not know the command boot-repair. I really like Ubuntu, it lets this netbook run smoothly and better than ever before but I don't think I want to boot from a usb every time.

  I want to schedule events for exact times in Mac OS X. It seems like the 'at' command is the simplest way to do this. I have enabled atrun using the command: launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.atrun.plist To test at, I'm using the following one-line BASH script: echo 'foo' path/to/log.txt | at now + 2 minutes When I run the script, I get output like: job 17 at Sat May 15 12:57:00 2010 where '12:57:00' is indeed 2 minutes in the future. But the echo command executes immediately: the line 'foo' is added to log.txt right away. How can I make at work for me?

  I am trying to improve performance on my server. I have a few processes that need low jitter (less than 10ms variance). I have a load average of 4 maximum on an i7-920 (4 physical cores, 8 with HT). There are about 10 processes ranging from 40% to 90% of a core user mode. System usage is 3% total. Total CPU usage is 80% max. Will setting the kernel from 100hz to 1000hz improve the jitter if tickless and high resolution timers are already set? This page seems to indicate it still does something. https://lkml.org/lkml/2009/4/28/401 How about changing from voluntary (PREEMPT_VOLUNTARY) to preemptible (PREEMPT)?

  Does anyone know of a current, active solution to encoding x264 videos across many computers (via the network) to increase encoding FPS? Brownie points for cross-platform and open source, but just so you all know, I usually use Windows. Programs that I have heard of, and why I do not believe they are suitable: x264farm: Not actively developed. Good interface, but does not support two-pass encoding, and fails with newer x264 builds. ELDER: Again, not actively developed, but my issue was that it didn't work with new x264 builds, and it was very difficult to configure (read: randomly stopped working). While I don't absolutely need a program which is being actively developed, I would like one that supports two-pass encoding, and works with new(er) x264 builds. Additional information: So far, I've offered (and awarded!) two separate bounties on this question since I first posted it over two years ago, and I still haven't found a solution to this problem. What I'm looking for basically is a simple program to allow me to encode x264 videos using the processing power of multiple computers connected over a LAN. Furthermore, it would be nice if it worked with new(er) x264 builds, and supported two-pass encoding. If at any time someone has an updated answer, or a new solution to this problem, please post it and it will be given some consideration.

  Like a lot of people in IT I sit at a desk for 8-10hrs/day working on stuff that needs to get done "now". That usually means eating unhealthy lunches at my desk, and sometimes dinner too. This does terrible things to your health. I have been trying to work some exercise into the workday but I was thinking it would be great if I worked somewhere where I was exercising all the time (walking around, lifting servers, etc.). Does anyone have a job in IT (or know someone) where you are actually moving around (not sitting) doing something for most of the day?

  From my understanding you can write your crons by editing crontab -e I've found several sources that instead refer to a bash script in the cron job, rather than writing a job line for line. Is the only benefit that you can consolidate many tasks into one cron job using a bash script? Additional question for a newbie: Editing crontab -e refers to one file correct? I've noticed that if I open crontab -e and close without editing, when I open the file again there is a different numerical extension such as: "/tmp/crontab.XXXXk1DEaM" 0L, 0C I though the crontab is stored in /var/spool/cron or /etc/crontab ?? Why would it store the cron in the tmp folder?

  I run a job every minute to reindex my site's content. Today, the search engine died, and when I logged in there were hundreds of orphan processes that had been started by cron. Is there another way using some kind of existing software that will let me execute a job every minute, but that won't launch another instance if that job doesn't return (i.e. because the search engine process has failed)?
