Extract domain from url (including the hard ones)

I'm trying to write (or just find an existing) PHP method that can take a link and extract the url. The trick is, it needs to hold under the weight of strange looking domains like: www.champa.kku.ac.th Looking at this one myself with human eyes, I still guessed it incorrectly: thought the domain would be kku.ac.th but that gives a dns error when visiting. So anyone knows of a good way to reliably extract the domain from url: http://site.com/hello.php http://site.com.uk/hello.php http://subdomain.site.com/hello.php http://subdomain.site.com.uk/hello.php http://www.champa.kku.ac.th/hello.php // and even the one I couldn't tell

A long running background process creates a text file to indicate the completion of the process. From the frontend, I'd need to check every few seconds if the text file has been created or not. PS: Currently, I am doing a ajax postback that executes a WebMethod in ASP.NET that creates HttpWebRequest. This works functionally, but I have major performance problems. Is JPA + EJB to much slow (or heavy) for over Internet transactions?

Hi, I am developing a stand-alone java client application that connects to a Glassfish v3 application for JPA/EJB facade style transactions. In other words, my client application do not connect directly to the database to CRUD, but it transfers JPA objets using EJB stateless sessions. I have scenarios where this client application will be used in an external network connected with a VPN over Internet with a client connection of 512kbp/DSL, and a simple query takes so much time, I'm seeing the traffic graph and when I merge a entity in the client application I see megabytes of traffic (I couldn't believe how a purchase order entity could weight more than 1 mb). I have LAZY fetch in almost every many-to-many relationship, but I have a lot of many-to-one relationships between entities (but this is the great advantage of JPA!). Could I do something to accelerate the the speed of transactions between JPA/EJB server and the remote java client? Thank you in advance.

how can I deliver remote content via web service?

We have multiple websites under different domains that need to receive our banner ads. We have a server app, in PHP, that returns the HTML for a randomly-generated banner ad. Out of concern for the client side, I don't want to use an iframe nor do I want to include the jquery library because of the weight - I also do not want to duplicate code across all the domains. Any other way to do this? Maybe there is a way to do this with mod rewrite or a web service? Anyone solve a similar problem? Thanks

two line label with expression

I'd like to write an axis label over two lines with an expression() statement. However, plotmath and expression won't allow this (e.g. subscript appear on the far right). I found this discussion circa 2005 of a similar issue but the work around that they offer doesn't translate to my application in ggplot2. A recent question addressed a a different permutation of multi-line expression statements, but again the work around provided doesn't apply here. Is it possible to cut down the size of Flex 4 deployments?

My bin-release for a very simple Web project using Flex 4 is weighing in at 1.5MB. 40% of that is taken up by one single file which is over 600K all by itself. Here are the files that take up most of the volume: framework_4.0.0.14159.swz 608KB spark_4.0.0.14159.swz 311KB textLayout_1.0.0.595.swz 153KB There are others as well, but this is over a megabyte right there. All this was fine when I was writing components for a large Flex application, but now I need to do widgets on an HTML page using a CMS. Are all these files really necessary to deploy? Are there things I can do to cut down the weight?

What i am trying to do is a simple recommender , must take the biggest weighted top 40 element's node2 element. Calculation for weight comes from (E.WEIGHT * K.GRADE). Now this code succesfully returns top 40 elements. However, i don't want E.NODE2 to return duplicates. POSTGRE SQL allowed me to do SELECT DISTINCT ON (NODE2) E.NODE2 , (E.WEIGHT * K.GRADE). How can i do the same in oracle? How to simulate :active css pseudo class in android on non-link elements?

I'd like to be able to mimic the behavior of the :active pseudo class on all elements in Android webkit. Currently, the :active syntax only works on a elements (links). Looking for a specific kind of WEB framework, no malarkey please

We do maintenence on a number of systems. I'm finally in a place where I'm teh fucking boss for once, and have to design a large system that will have a long maintenance contract. There's a couple of tasks I find myself always repeating: 1) similar tasks for users with JS and those without 2) similar things for contents and rss/atom feeds, etc. To combat these I will need appropriate handling of assets (think JS files, CSS, themes/templates, etc.), excellent auth/user systems, javascript/ajax forethought, appropriate model setups. Codeigniter fails on many of these. Basically, with enough time I could build this system with Zend, but I'm curious what else is out there as Zend is also kind of a heavy-weight. We need something that is Rapid but maintainable, CodeIgniter is not maintainable. We will have a lot of AJAX APIs in place for the design team to play with. At first I thought jQuery was cool, but now I'm looking at Dojo.

Is it possible for a Grails Domain to have no 'id'?

Is it possible to create a table that has no 'id'? For example, this is my domain: class SnbrActVector { int nid String term double weight static mapping = { version false id generator: 'identity' } static constraints = { } } When I run this SQL statement, it fails: insert into snbr_act_vector values (5, 'term', 0.5) I checked the table and 'id' is already set to autoincrement. I'm thinking that another option is to remove the 'id' itself. Or is there another workaround for this? Please assume that it is not an option to change the givent SQL statement.

Value of A.S. Degree in Programming

I am in a quite unusual family situation. For the next two years, I have to stay at home where the only post-secondary institution available is a community college. After two years, I will have to start earning a living. I do not really have any real-world programming experience to put on my résumé. I did some not-too-advanced work in PHP for family and friends, and I’m pretty sure that I want to program for a living. I have been working on an A.S. Degree in Computer Programming and Analysis since fall. My question regarding the degree is: is it worth anything to potential employers or am I just wasting my time? Is there a better way to spend the oncoming two years? If I could get an internship and some experience, would that hold more weight than a two-year degree without experience?

AJAX Problem - No response text in FireFox, but ok in IE

Hi, I am making a simple AJAX call to an external site. It works ok in IE, but in Firefox, not response text is returned. I think it might have something to do with the response being "chunked", but I'm not sure. Any ideas? A few things to point out is that the title is coming from a variable escape(global_Current_ProductCode) variable=productcode in the case above it is LB30X40ES The height and weight, price and product id used in the second markup must be from the first markup. Note that these change depending on the product loaded. These are not constants. I would guess the first thing to do was to add the thickbox class. Then I am lost as to what to do next. Basically I need to open up an thickbox iframe with the modified markup.

Drupal, template.php where do the $form names come from ?

hi, I want to customize my Drupal back-end forms. I'm using template.php file.. i.e. $form['menu']['#collapsed'] = true; $form['author']['#collapsed'] = true; $form['buttons']['#weight'] = 100; But I was wondering from where the section names (menu, author, buttons), come from. (They are not id or classes in html code, so I guess there is an index with all names stored somewhere. Where can I get the complete list of section names ? Furthermore, I've added a taxonomy-super-select-checkboxes section by installing the module. How can I refer to this section, to make the field not collapsed. thanks

I tried following this reference and this is now my domain's code: class SnbrActVector { long nid String term double weight static mapping = { version false nid index:'Nid_Idx' } static constraints = { term(blank:false) } } What I want is to do is to add an index key for 'nid' column. I dropped the existing table and run the app again so the table is then recreated. However, when i check for list of indices, I can't see a 'Nid_Idx', only available is 'PRIMARY'. Do I have to manually create the index and name it 'Nid_idx in my mysql database? Thanks.

Hello I need to find out exactly what files/directories a Lua program uses so I can try to only pack what it needs into a ZIP file, and come up with a simple way to deploy this script. I used SysInternals' Process Monitor, but I'm surprised by the small amount of information it returned while it watched the program (For Lua users out there, it's wsapi.exe, which is the launcher for the light-weight Xavante web server). Does someone know of a good Windows application that can completely monitor what a program does, eg. something like a live version of the venerable PCMag's InCtrl5. Thank you.
